0:00 so today on my Linus Tech tips unboxing we will be unboxing the AMD Phenom 2 X4
0:06 965 so this is a 3.4 GHz processor this
0:10 is AMD's fastest clocked processor ever
0:13 and we are going to get started right away pull to open just like that wow
0:18 how's that for an unboxing experience so we're going to dump this thing oh cool
0:23 you can actually see the CPU through a little window here I hadn't actually
0:26 noticed that before so you can see you're stepping this is a CAC y c or
0:30 0932 CPM W if anyone cared to know about
0:34 that sort of thing some people think that from knowing the stepping you can
0:37 determine how well the chip will overclock and there goes my phone I
0:40 already told it I'm busy you got to be kidding me
0:44 no okay so inside we will find a CPU
0:48 heat sink or first we'll find a certificate of authenticity so here's
0:52 your serial number which you will need if you have to do any sort of warranty
0:56 claim through AMD and this is an enor
1:00 ormous document holy smoke so in here
1:03 you will find a Phenom 2 sticker okay
1:07 and then you will also find this thing which is in a million in one languages
1:12 and is about the size of a wall poster
1:15 okay and it tells you how to install
1:18 your CPU how to identify your socket
1:22 going all the way back to socket 754 that's awesome and uh read this
1:28 first a bunch of rules okay so that's not all that interesting let's get to
1:32 the heat sink so for the heat sink on their highest end Black Edition
1:36 processor you will find kind of a Wimpy looking 60 mil fan but then actually a
1:42 fairly beefy four heat pipe cooler with
1:45 a pre applied thermal fan uh thermal fan
1:48 thermal pad so let's have a look at some different angles here this is a four pin
1:54 pwm fan so that means that it can be adjusted using pwm technology so that's
1:59 pretty cool you could no you could probably Swap this out for something else if you wanted using the little
2:04 Clips here just pull those back and take it off that's pretty good okay so then
2:08 let's get to the CPU itself so here's how you get that out I guess okay you
2:12 poke in through this side and then you push the CPU and out it comes so there
2:17 we have it that is the Phenom 2x4
2:21 965 so let's just take it out so here on the bottom you can see there are 940
2:26 pins so that's an am3 socket all am3
2:29 CPUs are compatible with ddr2 or DDR3
2:32 board so you can put them in an am2 Plus or an am3 board thank you for checking
2:37 out my video blog on the Phenom 2x4 965
