0:08 welcome to my unboxing and first look at
0:11 the much awaited finally mechanical
0:15 keyboard from Logitech in the G Series this is the g710 plus it uses Cherry MX
0:21 Brown switches which are a balance between sort of a tactile
0:28 feel and quiet which is a factor for
0:32 your more mainstream customer so the g710 plus is almost that um that
0:38 balanced approach between what the keyboard enthusiasts like which tends to
0:42 be your Cherry MX blues and what the
0:46 sort of more mainstream customer would want which is a keyboard that doesn't
0:49 make a whole lot of noise in fact I have a new coworker who was looking at the
0:53 Cherry MX Blue keyboard in my office and he was like oh yeah that's the stupidest
0:57 thing I've ever seen it's so loud it's stupid I'm like well no it's a
1:02 typing experience and he's like no that's the dumbest thing I ever heard so
1:06 going with something like MX Browns may be a very good approach although we'll
1:11 have to try it to find out for sure 110 key anti- ghosting which means no matter
1:16 what typing combinations you hit you're not going to have any random keystrokes
1:20 pop up 26 key rollover which means you can put both hands and your face all
1:24 over the keyboard it's going to register every stroke game/ desktop mode so
1:29 that's probably basically just turning off the uh Windows button in know
1:33 likelihood dedicated media controls this is the kind of thing that a lot of
1:38 mechanical keyboards don't have because they tend to be very basic designs
1:41 whereas Logitech I'm expecting all the bells and whistles adjustable Dual Zone
1:45 backlighting so there's the rest of the keyboard and then there's just the WD
1:50 keys six programmable G keys with 18 total functions you have three memory
1:54 keys for switching between different profiles high speed low noise tactile
1:59 switches for feedback you can feel which is exactly what I spent the first part
2:03 of the video saying I am like super super excited
2:07 about this cuz if there's anyone who knows how to build input devices it is
2:13 Logitech and if there's anyone who likes mechanical key switches it is slick
2:19 followed by me I like them but not quite as much as he does I mean he's like like
2:25 he's like sitting over there and I can see the drool coming out of the side of
2:28 his mouth just looking at this keyboard cuz he is he he he walked in today um
2:33 and he saw the keyboard ready to be unboxed and he was like oh yeah you know
2:37 yeah I'm not that excited about it cuz you know Cherry Brown switches and he's
2:42 he's a cherry blue guy and then after like five minutes of we're talking about
2:46 completely other unrelated things he just kind of turns to me and he's like
2:50 yeah I know I'm really excited about this keyboard you have to hurry up and unbox
2:55 it yeah he was trying to talk himself out of it cuz he knows he can't afford
2:59 it right now he's still in school just like diesel the intern which is why it's
3:03 hard for me to get any videos done because these guys schedules are
3:06 absolutely terrible and they're impossible to work with both of them I
3:10 should just fire them both no yeah I know right all right so
3:17 like most Logitech keyboards you actually get accessories included with
3:21 it like your wrist rest whereas most of the uh sort of Boutique brand mechanical
3:28 keyboard guys don't include any extraneous stuff like wrist rests or
3:32 keyboard back lights or you know fancy looking cables and all that kind of kind
3:36 of jazz so we've got two USB plugs here
3:40 one is for the keyboard itself and one is for a probably a pass through USB y
3:45 so that pass through is up here at the top so you plug that into your mouse or
3:48 you could not plug it into your mouse and you could just use it for like a USB
3:52 key or whatever else because it'll be running at full USB 2 speed because it's
3:56 just a pass through and it's not an actual Hub ooh look look at all the
4:00 cable management options they built into this so you could have a wire running
4:05 for your headset under here through here
4:08 through here and then run that down to the back of your computer like that so
4:12 it actually comes out at sort of a a sensible location instead of just
4:16 draping over your keyboard that's awesome and all of the huge rubber
4:22 nonslip pads on the bottom of this keyboard these are very well built these
4:25 are very high quality rubber um you know
4:29 guaranteed they won't break and cause problems um like your keyboard moving
4:34 around also you've got feet right here which do not have rubber pads on them
4:38 unfortunately I've seen ones in the past that do but these ones don't however it
4:42 should still not go anywhere because of the rubber pads here and here that are
4:47 still going to be down on the table so you can either incline the keyboard or
4:51 you cannot if you prefer more flat typing experience there's some Flex here
4:54 in the wrist rest so you don't have to worry too much about uh which way it's
4:59 oriented how flat the surface you have it on is all right uh you got your
5:04 programmable G Keys you know what I've never actually
5:07 typed on Browns
5:11 before they're quiet but they do have
5:15 more feedback than blacks I'll give them that not nearly as much as blues I think
5:20 I have a blue keyboard right here yeah here's a blue filco right here so for
5:25 comparison here's the sound this is what I was talking about where logitech's
5:29 probably going for a like um
5:34 compromise between that kind of a
5:37 click and that kind of a sound so membrane keys are pretty much always
5:41 quiet but they also just whoops okay well we'll put that away for now they
5:45 also just feel so mushy and you don't have that that response whereas these
5:49 ones you can feel after here you got to get in really close for this so you push
5:54 it down a little bit and the key hasn't registered yet and right there you can
5:59 you can feel the mechanical switch there's a there's a a pressure point
6:04 there so you don't actually have to bottom them out and mash them in order
6:08 to type on on Browns you can press them quite softly and you'll still have a
6:11 good typing experience but it's not loud
6:16 and I'd have to I'd have to sit and I'd have to actually use it for a long time
6:19 to know for sure what I think but let's go ahead and plug it into something so
6:23 we can have a look at the backl now there's not many keyboards
6:27 that I'd be considering proper gaming mechanical keyboards but the Corsair k90
6:33 as well as the g710 plus would be the ones that I'd say are more replicable
6:38 now k90 uses red switches red switches are very linear so you know that sort of
6:43 that buckling point that I showed you on the Logitech one that doesn't exist on
6:47 the on the corsairs you don't actually see where the key depress happens some
6:51 people find this less helpful for typing
6:54 whereas on Browns you really do have a little bit more feedback coming into
6:58 your hands on sort of what you're actually typing neither of them are as
7:02 responsive again as blues which I showed you before but there aren't any sort of
7:07 fully featured keyboards like this where you've got things like macro keys and a
7:11 full software suite that goes with it that are mechanical keyboards so this is
7:17 what we've got to work with Okay advantages g710 plus number one is these
7:23 buttons and these buttons are all mechanical on the Corsair keyboard
7:27 whoopsy daisies um on the Corsair
7:30 keyboard the programmable keys and the F Keys as well as these keys are not
7:35 mechanical okay another kind of cool thing about the Logitech keyboard is the
7:40 corser one has three brightness levels one two three and it does get pretty
7:44 bright the Logitech one looks like it has two three four four brightness
7:50 levels okay white backl so it's up to you if you prefer white or blue
7:54 personally I prefer blue uh you can switch between different profiles for
7:58 the G Keys here so you can program three full sets of functions I personally
8:01 don't see much value to having this many programmable keys on the left of the
8:05 keyboard because I'm not going to be able to reach them in the heat of battle anyway this is probably a good balance
8:10 um okay here you can control the brightness of either just the
8:18 WDS or just the rest of the keyboard using two dedicated buttons up here
8:23 you've got built-in media control keys on both of them built-in volume uh knobs
8:28 on both of them those are both working just fine mute
8:32 button mute button so they're very similar in terms of their features um it
8:36 just comes down to let's see overall build quality that's actually very good
8:41 wow that's comparable to uh to something like a filco or a ducky there's no flex
8:46 to this thing at all that's outstanding although it doesn't have a metal back
8:49 plane the same way that the k90 does so the k90 does have a little bit less Flex
8:53 on the back plane but um the overall
8:57 construction of this feels very good like not quite I don't think you could
9:00 kill a man with it but pretty darn pretty darn close um Aesthetics of it
9:04 are great I think the orange accent here is outstanding I wouldn't mind if this
9:08 instead of being a glossy black was sort of a less glossy black however it
9:13 doesn't seem to be too much of a grease or dust magnet so far just kind of try
9:18 to pick at it a little bit see how gross it gets and it looks like it cleans off
9:22 pretty easily there's a lot more to glossy finishes than just glossy or not
9:26 glossy and this appears to be a very high quality one
9:29 I think that pretty much covers everything that I can say about the g710
9:33 plus so advantages for Logitech are going to be the Cherry Brown switches
9:37 are going to be their very mature software platform that they have for
9:41 their gaming peripherals as well as the fact that when it comes to True gaming
9:45 keyboards fully featured gaming keyboards out there there's not a whole lot of choice for mechanical and if I
9:50 was going to pick one I would definitely go with cherry Browns over Cherry Reds
