0:00 it's time for handicap
0:05 handy tack handy tech
0:09 under a hundred today we have a motley assortment of doodads to help you get
0:13 more life out of older stuff you may already own so let's tack them out
0:19 oh oh that's terrible speaking of terrible this sponsor segue
0:24 is but Corsair isn't Corsair's ml rgv fans
0:29 feature magnetic levitation bearings and dynamic RGB lighting check out their 120
0:34 and 140 millimeter variants at the links below
0:44 do you remember the original game boy from 1989 introducing game boy it's
0:50 portable it's in stereo and its games are interchangeable
0:54 okay yeah you probably don't because even people born in the year 2000 are
1:00 almost voting age now lordy
1:03 anyway now noobs and veterans alike can have
1:07 the original game boy experience on the hyperkin smartboy a 50 device that
1:13 marries old school game boy controls and cartridge support with your phone's
1:18 superior screen and battery life as long as you have a supported usb
1:23 type-c phone game boy advanced games aren't supported and the software
1:28 experience is a bit less than streamlined since you
1:33 actually need two separate apps to get it working the smart boy companion app
1:37 and a third-party emulator but the buttons feel pretty dang authentic and
1:42 it works on games for both the original brick game boy and the game boy color
1:47 it is a little clutchy but overall i like the way hyperkin has executed this
1:52 the hardware feels durable and using a third-party emulator makes the smart boy
1:56 pretty future proof our next item is a real sleeper hit it's an HDMI to vga
2:04 adapter from dyno and i know what you're thinking does
2:07 such a mundane object deserve such a savage logo
2:12 yes yes it does it's super compact compared to competing
2:16 solutions and doesn't require any power or any drivers to be installed just plug
2:21 one end into your HDMI port and your vga cable into the other and bam digital to
2:27 analog baby as for why you might need something like
2:31 this well it's mostly for interoperability between new gadgets
2:36 like your laptop or latest gen graphics
2:39 card all of which lack analog outputs
2:43 and legacy tech like an old projector in a conference room or lecture hall or
2:48 basically anything server related now dyno doesn't do everything you can't
2:54 reverse it to adapt a vga device to an
2:57 HDMI display the conversion's just one way and you'll be stuck without audio
3:02 but there are slightly bulkier solutions that will convert your HDMI sound to a
3:07 three and a half millimeter jack and i mean on that subject if your new device
3:11 doesn't even have HDMI displayport and usb type-c adapters to vga are out there
3:17 as well the main point was to highlight that things like this exist
3:21 another thing that some people care about that the dyno lacks is mounting
3:25 screws to ensure that it doesn't walk itself out and disconnect over time but
3:30 i personally think it's more convenient this way since i'm probably going to be
3:33 using it in short bursts rather than as part of a longer term deployment anyway
3:39 next up well let's say you've connected all your smart lights so you can control
3:44 everything from your phone making your life much easier until no no wait stop
3:50 your bloody family and friends keep touching the light switches ruining your
3:53 setup don't reach for the duct tape just yet
3:57 the magnatac light switch covers are a more elegant way to keep people's greasy
4:02 little digits off your switches these were originally designed to help people
4:06 who observe the sabbath a time at which they are not supposed to do any work
4:11 including switching lights on and off but they're also great for preventing
4:16 people from turning off the outlet beside your bed that you use to charge
4:19 your phone overnight so you don't sleep in and miss work but if you're thinking
4:24 that you can use these to child proof your switches think again on that one
4:28 part of the beauty of them is that they attach magnetically to the fairest
4:31 screws holding your light switch plate on so they go on and come off with no
4:36 work at all next up we have 12 acoustic studio foam
4:42 wedges now first things first these are not for
4:45 soundproofing so don't buy them to keep your neighbor's dog from waking you up
4:50 at night mark why bart why you gotta do this
4:53 i mean okay by definition pretty much anything with mass will offer some
4:58 soundproofing but the main purpose of these is to treat a room for recording
5:03 and playback quality by removing reflective sounds and echoes
5:08 at a foot square and only a maximum of an inch deep these work best on higher
5:12 frequencies and probably won't be enough to absorb lows like a proper bass trap
5:16 would but they're really cheap and
5:20 not just functional they also give your space a professional studio feel and you
5:24 can attach them to the wall without damaging anything by using adhesive
5:28 spray like this or strips like the ones that come with our last item
5:32 command brand cord bundlers
5:36 these things are seriously shockingly useful you just stick the hooks to the
5:39 wall using the included 3m strips and now you've got a versatile hanger for
5:43 cable management storage and drying out your sandals after a trip to
5:47 the beach and who says you have to stick it to the wall you can tack it right onto an
5:52 object to maximize your stow and go ability but just because these puppies can hold
5:56 up to seven and a half pounds doesn't mean they're gonna wreck the paint when you take them off as long as you do it
6:02 properly so uh we just painted a lot of walls
6:05 around here that's why we got these ones and i guess actually that leads us
6:09 perfectly into the disclosure part of these handy tech videos where we tell
