0:00 so this is my usual thing where I compare the lengths and physical
0:05 characteristics of a bunch of graphics cards so our feature dour today is the
0:12 GTX 590 from NVIDIA this is a dual gf10
0:18 card it is so it's SLI on a card we've seen dual GPU cards quite a few times in
0:23 the past now now these are fully featured GF 1110s these are exactly the
0:28 same gpus that you find on a GTX 580 so
0:32 one of these so you might ask well how did NVIDIA manage to put two of those on
0:37 one card and the answer is that they are actually downclocked well first of all
0:41 they're bined very carefully for the best possible graphics cards or the
0:45 chips to put on it and then second they are actually downclocked so they do have
0:51 less performance than a single GTX 580
0:55 but they more than make up for it by having two of them okay so this card has
1:00 an 80 mm fan in the middle it has heat sinks on either side for each of the
1:06 gpus it has three DVI outputs with one
1:10 mini DisplayPort so those three DVI outputs this is another unique thing
1:14 about this card allow it to support 3D Vision surround or just plain surround
1:20 off a single card that is three displays over DVI so that's pretty cool it does
1:24 support quad SLI because it has one SLI
1:28 finger and it needs two PCI E8 pin power
1:32 connectors so let's just contrast it
1:35 against these other cards in terms of length it is an 11in card so I'll just
1:40 show you guys that there you go it's an 11in card so
1:45 you compare that to the radon HD 6990
1:48 which is a 1T that is a 12 in card and
1:52 to the GTX 580 which is only a 10 1/2 in
1:57 card now the 69
2:00 oops I'm going to wreck my tablecloth here the 6970 is almost 11 in and then
2:06 if we go all the way down into kind of the mainstream cards then we end up with
2:10 a GTX 560 TI and that is a 9in card so
2:14 just for contrast you can look at what it would take to fit a GTX 590 in your
2:20 case versus a GTX 560 TI sort of
2:24 mainstream single GPU card now there are other considerations to bear in mind as
2:29 well this fan needs to have a fair amount of clearance around it because
2:33 with two fmes in there there's a fair bit of heat being generated so you need
2:37 to make sure it has adequate ventilation
2:40 and yeah that's pretty much where I was going with that you got to make sure it
2:43 has adequate ventilation you also need to make sure your case has overall
2:47 adequate air flow in it because half of the heat is going to be exhausted
2:51 directly into your case out this side and then a fairly substantial amount of
2:56 it is going to come out into your case this way and then the rest will be
2:59 exhausted so this is going to kick a fair amount of heat into your case and
3:03 you got to make sure you have lots of fans to keep things cool thank you for
