0:00 Linus Tech tips coverage of CES 2014 is brought to you by nc.com your source for
0:05 great technology selection and service along with Corsair memory and Western
0:09 Digital so we've got some alone time with a couple of Dell 4K monitors this
0:15 right here is the 2414 Q This is an
0:18 ultra sharp display and when they say Ultra sharp I think they actually mean
0:23 Ultra sharp this is actually the highest pixel density desktop monitor that Dell
0:29 has ever produced and on top of being extremely sharp it is extremely color
0:35 accurate so it is has a 10bit panel that means up to 1.07 billion colors and it
0:41 comes Factory calibrated to a Delta e of less than two when you couple that with
0:46 the exceptional viewing angles and the fact that it's height adjustable
0:50 tiltable pivotable swivel pretty much whatever you can think of it's going to
0:55 make for one ergonomic and absolutely
0:58 beautiful working experience now speaking of beautiful the industrial
1:02 design of it is very traditional I actually really like it the last Dell
1:06 monitor I bought was a 245 fpw and to me
1:10 this looks like kind of like a more modern version of that with a black
1:13 bezel with slight silver accents on it it's got uh touch sensitive buttons here
1:18 so you can go ahead and press those we've seen this kind of thing before but
1:22 it's well implemented here you can see they light up when you even move near
1:25 them we're going to go ahead and turn the uh turn the unit around so you can
1:29 see how slim it is from the side the answer not particularly slim there's a
1:34 lot of Hardware in here in order to get uh
1:37 3,840 pixels by 2,160 uses a standard vase amount on a
1:43 an aluminum stand so it's just an aluminum base with an aluminum stand
1:47 I'll show you guys the height adjust here and in terms of IO you're going to
1:51 find uh it's a little bit different than usual there's no dual link DVI there DVI
1:57 is does not necessarily work optimally with 4K so guys it uses DisplayPort
2:03 mini DisplayPort and HDMI those are your only options the only other I we
2:08 find on the bottom is a USB 3 four port
2:11 Hub which you're going to be able to use for all your high-speed connections for
2:14 that probably quite high-end computer that's running this monitor I think I
2:19 went ahead and turned it off there but hopefully you guys still get the point
2:22 man it's beautiful even sitting this close to it it's
2:26 just crystal clear
2:31 kind of want one of these next up we've got the big brother
2:36 this is the up 3214 Q from Dell it's got an IPS display
2:43 from sharp it's got a usb3 hub it's got
2:47 DisplayPort mini DisplayPort HDMI and it's pretty much the same as the 24in
2:52 model except for the massive size I mean
2:56 you can see me standing next to it I it's it's funny because IED used to use
3:00 a 30-in monitor on my desk and I I got away from that because my cat leapt on
3:05 top of it and it fell forward onto something and actually cracked the panel
3:09 and so it had actually been a while since I had seen one and then I got my
3:13 hands on a 30in again a little while ago and I was like wow this is big this is
3:17 that experience all over again now if there was one criticism that I had of my
3:21 old 30-in it would be that when you make the display that large you lose some of
3:26 the sharpness that you would get with something like you know even a a 2560
3:31 x440 27in panel just because when they're smaller the pixel density is
3:35 higher and it's harder to pick out the individual ones well this alleviates
3:40 that problem because this is four times the resolution of a standard 1080p
3:44 display so that means it's about the equivalent of looking at you know four
3:49 16in 1080p displays Allin one the colors
3:52 look absolutely beautiful which makes sense because Dell is promising 100%
3:58 Adobe RGB coverage with 9 9% srgb
4:01 coverage 1.07 billion colors so that makes it a
4:05 10 pit panel and they are promising a Delta e of less than two which means
4:11 that color imperfections should be pretty much impossible very very
4:16 difficult for the human eye to discern
4:19 thank you for checking out this video on Dell's Ultra sharp 4K monitors here at
4:23 20 CES 2014 don't forget our trip to the
4:26 show is powered by nc.com your source for great technology ology selection and
4:31 Service as well as cors our memory and Western Digital without all of those
4:35 guys there is no way that we would have been able to be here so thanks so much
4:38 for that
