0:05 want a portable power bank Wireless AP SD card and USB reader for your mobile
0:09 devices check the link in the video description to learn more about the ad
0:12 data DH Drive air ae400 now while I love
0:16 data security as much as the next guy in
0:19 terms of keeping my precious memories safe it is still pretty hard to get
0:24 excited about a Nas because the cold hard truth is they all do basically the
0:30 same thing they keep your data store data safe by replicating it across
0:34 multiple drives they allow you to centralize your storage in one place
0:39 they allow you to build a sort of personal cloud so that you can access
0:42 your data on the Go and all of these are good things but the cold hard truth is a
0:48 lot of them are either let down by subpar Hardware they're let down by
0:52 subpar software or they're let down by just not being interesting or not having
0:56 anything different about them enter the io safe n 2 totally different first of
1:01 all it starts with packaging check this out that is some of the thickest closed
1:04 cell foam that I've ever seen packed around a NZ and there is a very good
1:07 reason for that that very good reason is that this thing weighs a frakin ton it
1:13 weighs about as much sort of like cubic cm for cubic cimer as a
1:20 UPS oh and there's a very good reason for that too this NZ is fireproof and
1:26 waterproof it can handle up to, 1500° F
1:29 or around 8 140° C for 30 minutes at
1:33 lower temperatures it can go for longer and to put that in perspective most
1:36 house fires won't go for longer than 30 minutes before a fire department shows
1:40 up and puts it out and that's where the waterproofness comes in so not only is
1:44 it flood resistant because it can handle 10 ft of fresh or salt water for up to
1:49 72 hours but it can handle having the
1:53 fire outside of it where it'll be basically red hot by the time the fire
1:57 department reaches it and it can handle being hosed down at that point in time
2:01 all of this without causing data to be lost on the drives inside you guys you
2:08 guys getting crazy with me here yet all right so it's available in a couple of
2:11 configurations diskless or with diss installed this right here is the
2:14 diskless one but the thing about the installed disc one is that um iosafe
2:19 doesn't expect you to actually continue to use the nas after it's been on fire
2:24 and after it's been doused down with water they expect you to send it to them
2:27 for data recovery they cover shipping both ways which is very very cool and
2:32 they even send you back your new N2 so
2:36 if it goes on fire or whatever else they send you a new one they send you new
2:39 drives inside so your data is completely safe I don't believe there's any deductible on the first one but don't
2:44 necessarily quote me on that check the link in the description if you want more details so the in let's go accessories
2:49 first I guess so there's a power adapter right there all right power cord got
2:53 some screws for installing drives got an Ethernet cable got a small magnet as
2:58 well as an iosafe disc and this removal
3:01 tool so it has a very unique construction first of all the entire
3:06 outside of it is made of steel so
3:09 there's no aluminum screws even because aluminum or plastic or any other
3:13 materials are going to have serious problems at 1500° F so it's all made of
3:18 steel around the backside you can see there is still a ventilation fan and the
3:23 way that that works is they actually have vent holes in the front that are
3:28 built with kind of a m like structure so that in a fire the Flames themselves
3:33 can't get through to reach the drives
3:36 and they have to go through the insulation which is uh has a very unique
3:39 design as well so it still is allowed to have active cooling it's got a power in
3:43 at the back gigabit Ethernet two USB 3.0 ports and a security Kensington lock on
3:49 the other side we find not a whole lot of anything and then on the front this
3:55 is where things start to get really interesting power copy USB 2
4:00 SD card reader and activity LED so there's two drives inside you can
4:04 configure it in jbod raid zero or Raid
4:07 one and we are going to take this baby apart all right guys so here we are the
4:12 first thing it's just two screws it's actually less complicated than I thought
4:15 we didn't really need to cut the camera here so the first thing we find once we
4:19 take off the front nice long screws okay there we go are the flows safe vents so
4:24 these are the ventilation holes that allow air to pass in through the side
4:29 here then along this drive storage containment
4:35 unit here and then out the back the second thing we find is this stuff this
4:40 is their data cast insulation this is a very unique solution what this does is
4:44 once it reaches a temperature of around 160° f it begins to sweat water and so
4:51 you can see that's lining the entire inside there so what that means is that
4:55 as long as there is liquid water present
4:58 the temperature of this insulation cannot exceed 100° C that's how it works
5:03 seriously go look it up if there's still liquid water in the bottom of your
5:07 frying pan the frying pan cannot exceed
5:10 100° C so that allow that is what allows
5:14 it to sweat it out over a period of 30 minutes and keep the temperature of the
5:18 drives I mean 100° isn't you know happy for them but under control to the point
5:23 where they will still be able to have the data pull off of them afterwards now
5:28 that's not the end of the protection because do just because you're fireproof
5:31 doesn't mean you're waterproof so that's where this next layer comes in so we're
5:34 going to go ahead and remove this Allen key screw right here there we go and
5:40 this is where you will find aha the
5:44 hydro safe barrier so this is the one that handles 10 ft of fresh or salt
5:48 water for up to 72 hours or being hosed off with a fire hose and you can see
5:53 here now we get to some aluminum construction so this is where the drives
5:56 themselves go remember these ones will be at safe temperature so they didn't
6:00 have to build them out of steel necessarily but you can see they're
6:03 designed out of aluminum for thermal conductivity so that's the sled that the
6:07 drive mounts in and then here is where the drive will actually be able to make
6:11 contact with this shell around it with the drive enclosure itself which is what
6:16 will allow it to pass heat using the fins on the outside and be cooled by the
6:21 fan at the back so keeping your drive safe during a fire or flood is important
6:25 but you also have to keep them safe while they're actually operating it so
6:29 guys stay because we will be torture testing this drive guys leave a comment
6:33 under the video if you have some crazy creative ideas for how you think we can
6:37 torture it do not forget to like the video and don't forget to share the
6:41 video with anyone who you think might benefit from this kind of small or
6:44 medium business style Nas enclosure remember guys I did say a lot of nazes
6:49 are let down by sort of poor software or poor Hardware implementations this one
6:54 has very respectable read and write speeds and uses Synology software so
6:58 that means you can install apps and it has very Advanced Management systems and
7:02 all that good stuff sonology makes good stuff so don't forget to subscribe and
7:06 I'll see you guys next time
