0:16 so many of you commented on my recent video on the Corsair 230t case that
0:22 you'd like to see more videos where instead of focusing on the latest and
0:25 greatest most amazing thing ever we take some time to point out a value oriented
0:31 product that's a good buy and not too expensive I've decided to turn these
0:35 videos into a series called stuff that doesn't suck at $100 for a 650 watt the
0:41 v650 semi modular from Cooler Master is right in line with other 80 plus gold
0:45 modular power supplies from a pricing standpoint but it offers a couple of
0:49 other things that not all the others do physically there's nothing that
0:53 extraordinary about it inside the box you'll find a quick start guide some
0:56 environmentally friendly packaging a power cord installation screws which is
1:01 a nice touch in case you lose one the power supply itself and a small bundle
1:05 of surprisingly Supple black modular ribbon cables you get two quad SATA
1:09 harnesses and two triple Molex ones with one of the lad also including a floppy
1:13 connector moving on to the unit itself we find a tastefully styled matte black
1:18 gray and gold color scheme with all of the pertinent information on a large
1:22 label on the top here you'll see that this power supply features a single
1:25 12volt rail capable of delivering just shy of its entire 650 W Capac capacity
1:30 so you won't need to worry about which connectors you plug into what this is
1:34 fine for a relatively low capacity unit and this is also where you'll find the
1:38 pertinent safety certifications by the way on the opposite side cooling is
1:42 handled by a 120 mm fan and this is where we see the first differentiating
1:47 feature compared to cic's G Series which is similarly priced and 160 mm long the
1:53 vssm unit here is only 140 mm long if
1:56 you're installing it into a full tower case or something it doesn't matter but
2:00 if you wanted to do a compact build this power supply should be on your short
2:05 list so to speak anyway uh which leads
2:08 us over to the cabling side the pre-attached cables use pretty
2:12 unexceptional sleeving which isn't great but it's also not a big deal at this
2:17 price point and looking at the pre-attached connectors we've got our 24
2:21 pin motherboard connector which seems a little bit long our eight pin CPU
2:25 connector which seems a TT short but should be fine for most mid Towers even
2:28 rting up the back and then a single PCI
2:32 Express cable that has two 6 plus2 connectors on it that means that unless
2:36 we want to use janky adapters we're limited to a single high performance
2:40 graphics card I do see this as a bit of a non-issue though since a dual Graphics
2:45 configuration on a 650 W power supply would have to be with mid-range cards
2:49 and I generally recommend a single high-end card versus two mid-range cards
2:53 anyway not to mention that the 750 watt version is available for another $10
2:57 with four PCI Express connectors if you want that so take that for what it is
3:02 finishing up we've got four more plug spots here for the modular cables that I
3:07 mentioned before they're keyed so they only go in one way and are an ample
3:10 length for easy installation again into pretty much any mid Tower I'd like to
3:15 see the SATA connectors perhaps a little bit closer together on the harness but
3:21 this is something that I've been saying for a long time and no power supply maker has yet bent to my will in this
3:26 way so we'll see if Cooler Master decides to I don't know maybe it'll be
3:30 like an optional cable kit or something like that in the future on the back is
3:33 the usual honeycomb grill a power switch and a standard power input and then
3:37 we're led into the stuff that I guess you can't really see on the surface
3:42 Cooler Master is really proud of this unit for a couple of reasons first up is
3:46 that they're using all Japanese capacitors inside the quality of which
3:50 compared to other options on the market is fairly well established and next up
3:54 is something that they're calling the gold guarantee a 5-year warranty is good
3:59 a 5-year warranty with costs completely covered is outstanding now I know in
4:03 many Industries it's standard for a company to cover shipping both ways for
4:08 a return but in the computer industry the standard procedure is to have the
4:12 customer cover shipping the item back to the depot and the manufacturer cover
4:16 shipping it back to the customer this is because unlike clothing or pet supplies
4:21 there really isn't that much margin in most computer parts because high-end
4:25 electronics are legitimately expensive to make and the vssm series is no
4:29 exception so Cooler Master it's not that they have like a ton of margin on the
4:33 thing and they're just like yeah whatever we can afford to ship six of them to people if it comes to that no
4:38 what they're doing is they're basically betting big that these things are so
4:42 reliable that they're hardly going to take any back and it's nice to see a
4:46 manufacturer approaching a product with that kind of confidence it's stuff like
4:50 this that makes me happy to give The Cooler Master VSM series my personal
4:54 doesn't suck a w kudos for taking a step like this in the right direction in
4:58 terms of customer support now I just hope the rest of the industry starts to
5:02 shift that way too as usual guys the link to pricing and availability is in
5:06 the video description below the like dislike and share buttons which none of
5:10 you ever use no one ever shares my videos it's like you're embarrassed to
5:13 think computer stuff is cool or something is that true anyway the also
5:18 in the video description is a support link where you can buy a t-shirt give us a monthly contribution if you appreciate

5:39 segment because I'm you know I always need your guys feedback to know if we're
5:43 doing the right stuff okay I'm done now
