0:00 okay so today I'll be having a look at the steel series 5H V2 USB so this is
0:06 their highest end headset currently it comes with all the bells and whistles of
0:11 any of their headsets including a USB sound card now steel series is a gaming
0:17 company they specialize in gaming peripherals so this is targeted at
0:22 Gamers they're saying this headset is optimized to give you the best possible
0:26 sound quality for gaming specific applications
0:30 and actually I should mention this one of the reasons that they encourage users
0:34 to get these USB sound cards is it means that whether you're playing on your own
0:38 machine or on like a tournament Land Machine where everyone's using like a
0:43 standardized computer so that no one has an unfair Advantage it retains all of
0:47 your settings and gives you the same audio quality actually their mice all of
0:51 their current mice feature similar features where as soon as you plug it in
0:55 it retains all of your settings and you don't have to you know tweak the
1:00 sensitivity within Windows or anything like that so it'll operate the way you
1:04 want it to regardless of which computer it's plugged into so that's kind of a
1:07 cool feature and an interesting selling point of this particular headset so
1:11 let's have a look at the accessory package comes in a little zip tied
1:15 plastic baggy here that includes a cord and some other stuff okay so first of
1:20 all steel series professional gaming gear this is a little catalog of oh also
1:25 includes a steel series sticker okay so
1:29 us 2K warning don't turn your headphones up too loud okay awesome and here is a
1:34 little uh brochure of all of their different gaming products now this is
1:38 one of the only sort of V2 products in
1:41 their in their product line the other one they have is the new Siberia V2 and
1:46 these are both going to be pretty similar in terms of quality but the 5H
1:49 V2 does have a couple things over the Siberia V2 okay here's your USB sound
1:54 card you plug that into a USB port and it has two things on it it has a
1:59 headphone jack and a mic Jack okay so
2:02 that's pretty straightforward and then oh we have a driver disc for the USB
2:05 sound card you should definitely be going to Steel series's website and
2:09 downloading the latest drivers though I never recommend using a driver disc okay
2:13 so I have another little zip tie here I'm going to try and get this off and
2:17 then I will be able to show you this okay so we have an inline volume control
2:21 it feels quite sturdy actually I like the build quality of this and then the
2:25 mic oh this is kind of cool it can be set to high low or off okay you got a
2:29 little setting there and then you have a pretty durable feeling metal clip I like
2:33 to see a metal clip I mean it's little things like that that distinguish
2:37 something like the 5 hv2 from a less expensive headset okay you've got a nice
2:43 long braided cable that terminates in a
2:48 headphone output and a mic input just like you see on the USB sound card so
2:52 this is how it's intended to be used but just because it's a USB headset doesn't
2:57 mean you can't use it with a regular analog output and input okay so let's
3:01 get down to the headset itself I'm just taking the zip ties off the back here so
3:05 that I can actually remove it from their plastic packaging okay so the ear Cups
3:12 have huge padding on them you can see the padding here is really soft and it's
3:16 actually like I mean it's like almost as thick as the headphone itself so these
3:20 are extremely comfortable I've actually used these before in the past but I
3:24 never did an unboxing on them and the way they sit on your ear is not the
3:29 don't mush down what they do is they sit kind of lightly and once you've used
3:34 them for an extended period of time they will start to mold to your head and
3:37 that's a mark of any good headset they're quite open sounding actually and
3:41 you can tell from the vents on the sides as well as the type of foam they're
3:45 using on the ear pads so they're not going to isolate sound much from the
3:48 outside and they're also not going to isolate what you're listening to from
3:53 the people around you one cool feature of the 5H V2 is actually that you can
3:57 disassemble it check this out so you can actually release these clips on the
4:02 inside and you can take the whole headset apart for easy Transportation if
4:06 you're throwing it in a bag or whatever else like that you can see the contacts
4:10 are actually quite durable they're no they seem to be goldplated they might
4:13 not be though uh either way they make really good contact in there and you're
4:17 not going to have to worry about those wearing out the last feature of the 5 5H
4:21 V2 is a pretty distinctive steel series feature and that is a retractable mic
4:26 that sits up in one of the ear cups so that means you can actually use them as headon phones unlike a lot of gaming
4:31 headsets where you have like this huge mic hanging up the side of it and you'd
4:35 look like a total tool if you were to try and listen to music on them in public anyway thank you for checking out
