0:00 so today I'll be doing a quick unboxing of a popular PC modding item and that is
0:04 a dual 12-in cold cathode kit so basically what this is it's a way of
0:09 lighting up your PC the particular one I have here today is a UV cold cathode kit
0:14 so you can get it in a variety of colors including blue red green purple yellow
0:17 white and UV now the difference between purple and UV is purple is actually
0:22 intended to throw purple light into your case so your whole PC will glow out
0:28 purple whereas a US V cathode kit is
0:31 more designed to allow UV reactive things inside your case to Glow whatever
0:37 color they happen to be so I mean if you
0:40 look directly at a UV cathode it will look purple but the main purpose of it
0:45 is to be a black light so if you're looking for something that will actually light up your case you're looking for a
0:50 color other than this one so why don't I explain everything that comes with it
0:54 first of all you've got five pieces of velcro four small ones and one big one
0:59 the four small ones are for using at either end of the cathodes and then
1:03 mounting them to something in your case so you stick them on really the the
1:06 velcro that's included isn't great quality I'd recommend picking up some double-sided tape or some industrial
1:11 velcro from your hardware store if you really want them to stay put however the
1:14 big ones usually okay and you use that to mount the inverter now what an
1:18 inverter is is it's a device for taking the 12vt power from your power supply
1:24 and converting that into something that these cathodes can use because these run
1:28 on AC power which is is more like the power that you'd find in your walls so
1:32 basically you're taking your power your computer power supply you're turning AC
1:35 into DC then you're taking that DC power putting it into here and putting it back
1:39 into AC it seems very roundabout but it's the best way to run cathodes in
1:43 your PC so these are the cathodes themselves they're 12 in long or 30 cm
1:48 long they come with little white wires attached to them I've experimented with
1:52 uh ways of making these look nicer you can sleeve them quite easily so that's a
1:56 really easy way to make them look better but you can't really lengthen them very much because what tends to happen is the
2:01 one that you try to splice more wire into will be more dim so it's um very
2:05 strange it shouldn't shouldn't be that way but it is anyway I have another kit
2:09 on hand that I've already got set up here and I'm just going to show you what
2:13 it looks like so that is a UV kit you can see it doesn't throw off a whole lot
2:17 of light compared to the other ones but you do have the advantage as I showed in
2:21 my modmart SATA cable unboxing of making
2:24 other stuff glow so that effect is very
2:28 cool thank you for checking out my unboxing of the logus 12in cold cathodes
