the fractal designed toine R4 case gets featured on the wow build logs of the
0:10
week section more than any other case click now to learn more about it so when
0:14
minicio reached out to me about unboxing the nines I was a little bit skeptical
0:20
because they looked to me at first glance like fashion earphones which I
0:25
really do just try to avoid talking about altogether because if you don't
0:29
have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all so I replied to them and
0:32
I basically went look if they don't sound good I'm going to just tear them
0:36
apart I'm just going to give them a terrible terrible unboxing and overview
0:40
and I'm going to say that they sound bad and they went no no no they sound really
0:43
good and for $170 and headphones that are like shaped
0:48
like bullets that fit in your ears I was like okay well they're either all show
0:52
and noo or they legitimately sound good and they just have like a really cool
0:57
sort of fashion sense so without further ad
1:00
this is my unboxing of the misho 99's SLV they are titanium coated they are
1:07
constructed out of solid copper okay
1:11
they have three different sizes of what they call Hol tips so those are the
1:16
Silicon caps silicone not silicon silicone caps that go on top of them to
1:21
fit in your ears and they really do look like the housings of 9mm rounds uh
1:26
sticking out of your ears which is extremely cool they're available in a variety of colors which you can check
1:30
out on their website and I mean okay okay so here there's a couple things so
1:34
because they're constructed from copper they are quite heavy so they actually
1:37
come with two ear clips that look at little little something like that you've also got a little clip for the wire
1:41
that's included in their nice little carry bag which is actually quite
1:45
stylish got a nice little orange accent in there and then there's another pouch
1:48
for putting presumably the actual headphones themselves and it closes magnetically I like that good design oh
1:53
look at that a loop on it as well all right okay I'm down for that we've got a
1:58
munish card that makes you feel premium as well as a manual warranty they have a
2:02
2-year warranty next up we've got I yes
2:05
this is it the earphones themselves so
2:08
they are made for iPod made for iPad and
2:11
iPhone which means that the inline controls here which are able to control
2:15
voice as well as uh volume up and down
2:18
and track skipping by clicking multiple times that's only going to work on iOS
2:22
devices overall the construction of them feels very solid but this is what you'd
2:27
expect from sort of fashion headphones as well 24 karat gold plating on the
2:31
connector which will only matter if you unplug and plug them in like a billion times nice knurled finish on this
2:36
connector right here though like that lots of grip on it and then their nice
2:40
little branding there they've got a Kevlar reinforced braided cable which is
2:44
only important if you have cats that tend to chew up your earphones which
2:50
some of us do so I'm not even I'm not even going to make fun of them for that
2:54
it's like yeah we put kevlar in it yeah good that's awesome thank you for that
2:58
and then finally wow those really do have some heft to them finally the uh
3:02
earphones themselves when we pull off their hollow point silicone tip I love
3:08
that branding we find the 9mm Rare Earth
3:12
neodimium magnet drivers it's something to bear in mind about these headphones
3:16
is even though they have that made for iPod branding they are fairly High
3:21
impedance so these are 32 ohm impedance earphones which when you consider that
3:26
something like a Sennheiser momentum on ears are running at 18 ohms of impedance
3:31
you kind of go oh wow what's going on here so you may want to look into
3:34
something like a portable headphone amplifier or you may find that they
3:37
sound great to you out of the box one of the advantages of higher impedance
3:41
headphones is that they can help with base rollof as well as rolloff on the
3:45
higher end giving you a flatter more well a more flat
3:49
sounding sound for lack of a better way
3:52
of putting that so without further Ado we're going to have to listen to these
3:56
and let you guys know what we think
4:01
so now that Brandon and I have had a chance to spend some time really playing
4:05
around with these I have a few things to point out so number one is I was
4:09
terrified when I looked at the back of the package and I was like oh no they
4:14
deliver unmatched sound Purity okay that sounds okay so far tight thundering
4:19
Distortion free base okay when the first thing they talk about is the base that's
4:23
that's scary because a lot of the time that means yeah we couldn't figure out
4:27
how to optimize the drivers and how to optimize the output so we're just going
4:31
to be like yeah it's got lots of bass and it's loud and put big drivers on it
4:35
um that that is not that is not a good audio experience but then they kind of
4:40
go Crystal Clear mids soothing smooth highs accurate and enveloping sound that
4:44
is uniquely municio and they're actually
4:47
right so the first thing I noticed about them is that even though they look like
4:51
fashion earphones and even though they are branded like fashion earphones
4:56
they're like bullets and stuff um the second I pluged them in into my HTC1 so
5:02
I'm using Apollo now which dramatically improves the sound output compared to
5:06
even power ramp which has a great reputation Apollo is much better anyway
5:10
I'm using Apollo now and I was like oh well they have a very flat sounding the
5:15
sound signature they they don't have like this pumped up base that you get so
5:19
often with headphones and earphones these days so I kind of went oh well I
5:23
wonder if they're even capable of really pumping out the base so then I fired up
5:28
power ramp which I'm really not that of a fan of anymore but it does have a
5:31
built-in EQ and lo and behold really
5:35
Punchy tight base I'm impressed I'm really impressed if I had one complaint
5:40
about them um it well okay if I had like I I'll list all my complaints about them
5:44
because I do have a few complaints number one is that these ear Clips are not really very useful for me they don't
5:48
even sit on my ear once you put the uh once you put the earphone into it and
5:53
they're made out of a hard plastic so I really just didn't find them that useful
5:56
but the good news is in spite of their weight I really didn't have trouble keeping them in with the smallest tips
6:00
and they come with three different sizes of tips my next complaint is that there
6:04
is a little bit of cets um that is at the very high end when high frequency
6:09
sounds can be a little bit harsh sounding to your ears the way that you
6:12
can compensate for that though if you do have a software EQ in your media player
6:16
is that you can take the very very high frequency and turn it down a little bit
6:21
with that said pretty much anything under several hundreds of dollars you're
6:25
going to experience a noticeable amount of that so it's just a matter of your
6:29
tolerance level and it was really only detectable for me at very high volume
6:33
levels speaking of volume levels I was able to drive these up to higher than
6:38
comfortable I didn't actually make it to the maximum volume on my HTC1 so I
6:42
wouldn't worry too much about the 32 ohm impedance unless you have extremely weak
6:46
output on your phone or MP3 player or otherwise and then the last thing that I
6:50
wanted to talk about is the noise isolation they don't have the best noise
6:54
isolation ever but it's weird because you end up in sort of the situation
6:58
where I can put these in and if I'm not listening to anything I can I can hear
7:02
myself quite clearly I can hear my surroundings very clearly uh Brandon was
7:06
able to hear the embarrassing music I was listening to very clearly but when
7:09
I'm listening to them they have a more closed sound to them I don't know if
7:14
it's the metal construction or if it's something else about the engineering of
7:17
these earphones but the sound signature sounds more closed but they are actually
7:22
not very noise isolating compared to the ones that I use more regularly which are
7:26
the steel series flux in your Pros where I'm using comp fly tip so maybe it's not
7:30
really an Apples to Apples comparison and Brandon's frame of reference is what
7:34
what are those again um Monster Turbine PR Monster Turbine Pro so we're talking
7:39
earbuds that retail for like $400 as
7:43
opposed to these ones with $170 price points so I think at the end of it all
7:47
the conclusion that we were both able to agree on is for $170 if you want
7:51
something that sounds good and it doesn't look like garbage uh you know
7:57
what not a bad bet so Color Me surprised
8:01
and impressed am municio 9s are not just fashion earphones good job guys guys
