0:00 razor project Valerie the portable
0:04 triple 4k monitor gaming system they
0:08 showed off earlier this year at
0:11 CES we all heard the rumors that I stole
0:15 it from their Booth during cleanup at the show but I'm going to let you guys
0:19 in on a little secret I didn't steal it in fact I
0:26 wouldn't even want it because truth be
0:30 told I've been working on my own triple
0:33 monitor portable battle station laptop
0:37 concept for the last 20 minutes that I
0:40 call rear prej voer
0:45 be and I'm going to show you guys
0:48 exactly how it
0:57 works hp's new omen lineup comes
1:00 equipped with Intel's 7th generation core i7 processor check it out at the
1:05 link in the video description all right so first things
1:09 first and I assure you that my decision
1:12 to use a razor blade Pro as the basis of
1:15 my prej has nothing to do with the fact
1:19 that Razer also did the same thing with their project see mine's a preck there's
1:25 is a project no similarity whatsoever is to start
1:30 with the Razer Blade Pro as a basis it's
1:35 already a fairly portable battle station
1:39 class computer with a core i7 6700
1:44 K GTX 1080 Graphics 32 gigs of RAM PCIe
1:50 raid zero ssds pretty much you oh my
1:54 finger is stuck freaking name it I'm not a huge fan of the keyboard but
2:00 that's okay okay so what was good about
2:04 project Valerie it was self-contained as a single unit so you could just slide it
2:09 into your backpack as one piece I mean
2:12 sort of they didn't actually have any of that stuff working yet when we were
2:16 there the uh the like one that was
2:19 supposed to kind of like go out and then fold in that was all fixed in place just
2:24 as kind of a of a mockup and the number
2:27 two is it was truly portable so the idea
2:32 was that sure it was pretty thick but it
2:36 could be taken with you uh set up in the local Starbucks and run in either single
2:43 monitor mode so without folding out the additional displays or in triple monitor
2:48 mode without requiring being plugged
2:51 into the wall so my plan is actually to
2:56 use a solution that I brought up during my show cut coverage of Razor take on
3:01 this by using portable USB powered
3:06 monitors I mean sure I may give up some
3:09 of the Elegance of not having everything folded together but I have the advantage
3:14 of not needing to carry my two extra
3:18 monitors out with me when I don't intend to use
3:22 them okay we're going to get started on construction in a minute but first let's
3:27 have a look at the monitors we're using so these are made by a company called
3:30 GIC we've actually covered one of their products before but this is a new one
3:34 this is the onlap 1503h and other than being like portable
3:40 it's basically a monitor so you got your buttons on the side you've got HDMI and
3:45 VGA in unfortunately using proprietary
3:49 ports uh but they did send me pretty much all the cables I could possibly
3:54 need as well as their dock connector that goes on the back for one of them so
3:58 all of that should be pretty straightforward for our project and uh
4:03 it's powered right with this USB type-c connector right down here on the bottom
4:08 left now normally the idea would be that
4:13 you mount it using the uh included metal
4:16 stand and rubber magnet thing on the back but of course we have other plans
4:23 okay so if everything seemed really well planned out and structured about this
4:27 video up until now that's because
4:30 I had a plan this is the part where for the
4:35 first time I actually attempt to uh to
4:38 do this so here we go in order to keep the
4:44 io on the side of the monitor out of the
4:48 way of my mounting strategy which I have
4:51 not yet determined what it will actually be so these are like they're pretty
4:56 light but they definitely do have some
4:59 he to them I'm thinking maybe I could take off this metal bracket see if I can
5:03 save a little bit of weight there on one of them I'm going to be using their dock
5:08 connector so the one that mounts on the right side of the monitor it's kind of
5:14 unfortunate how freaking long the cables
5:18 are on this so you can see right there
5:22 we don't need to have any cables sticking out of it so we can go like
5:26 that and like like
5:33 like that okay then on the other one I
5:37 can use the cables that were included in the Box because they only sent me one of
5:42 those dock
5:49 adapters okay so cables included in the
5:55 Box here we go so we plug in the proprietary HDMI I and our power
6:03 in with the objective
6:07 then of running that puppy right there
6:10 yeah boy
6:31 okay so what I can't do with the bracket
6:36 here is have these monitors sit in front
6:40 of the laptop so it looks like these are going to have to go on from the back and
6:44 because of the length of these cables I think I'm actually going to be better
6:47 off having the uh dock adapter one on
6:51 this side and then the other one see
6:55 with the cables coming off here on the other side and wrapping them
7:00 around sort of maybe
7:04 oh no problem no problem we got this so all I need to
7:10 figure out now is what type of mounting strategy I
7:16 want to use we got Tuck tape we got Gaff
7:20 tape which I'm already pretty sure isn't going to work we've got double-sided
7:24 velcro tape and we've got this badass 3M
7:28 Adhesive that we use for our GoPros now this and tuct tape have the disadvantage
7:32 of not being very uh removable how you
7:36 say so I'm going to try and make this
7:39 work with this Velcro stuff let's see
7:43 how it
7:51 goes now obviously given that these monitors actually
7:55 have mounting points on them like screw
7:58 mounting points points if Jake was here I could have him whip up something on
8:03 the 3D printer or something but it's me
8:06 so double-sided tape Fraser's going to be super stoked
8:13 on getting this laptop back with like velcro all over it this stuff leaves a
8:18 wicked residue
8:26 okay so it's actually kind of moment of
8:29 Truth time here what kind of angle do we
8:33 want let's go with that give me some
8:36 guidance here man okay actually here you know what let's just
8:41 there line it like
8:46 that oh boy okay here we
8:56 go oh yeah boy yeah so theoretically you
9:02 need two USB plugs for power for this sucker
9:07 but I have had them working with just
9:10 one so let's see
9:14 if wait for it yeah all right we got
9:19 one one monitor working now it's time to apply what we
9:26 learned which is nothing of course
9:29 to the other
9:33 side
9:49 okay
9:52 boom yeah think it's going to
9:56 survive do you even lift rer Blade
10:00 Pro yeah boy yeah you do now we just got
10:05 to plug this one in and do note that
10:08 there is still a USB port available on
10:11 the left side for your uh USB plug-in
10:14 needs you know your mouse your uh thumb drive and the second HDMI output
10:21 provided by the Thunderbolt Port
10:25 because what project wouldn't be complete without a dongle in today's
10:29 world so the Thunderbolt Port gives us our second
10:33 HDMI
10:38 and come
10:43 on where's my cursor the computer just
10:46 crash
10:51 oh yeah there it is look at that working
10:57 perfectly DIY project Valerie the cursor moves
11:04 seamlessly from one to the next and we
11:08 have achieved the goals that we set out
11:12 to achieve so goal number one triple
11:16 monitors on a laptop and goal number two the ability
11:23 to albe it with some additional bulk
11:28 take our completely cableless solution no need to
11:33 be plugged into the
11:39 wall and
11:47 easily
11:57 easily easily
12:02 oh did that panel just break this one's
12:07 fine easily take it with us
12:35 on the go in one
12:39 compact package so thanks for watching guys I
12:44 hope you enjoyed this fun little video on DIY project Valerie now
12:50 obviously I fully understand that this
12:55 is not a very elegant solution but the point of this video much the same way
13:00 that razer's video was more about the
13:03 concept of triple monitor laptops the point of this video was the concept of
13:09 portable multim monitor Solutions and where they could go in the future what
13:13 I'd like to see is especially with USB
13:16 type-c and its incredible power delivery characteristics I'd like to see a beefy
13:21 Thunderbolt Port that could power two of these monitors that are kind of Daisy
13:25 together across the back off of a single port or something like that that would
13:29 be super cool Amazon you may remember them from
13:33 such incidents as kicking us out of their Associates program but we're back
13:39 and they're still awesome we still love them Amazon is great they stock or have
13:45 available through other suppliers pretty much everything and it's all cheaper and
13:51 faster with Amazon Prime so Amazon Prime's got all kinds of great benefits
13:54 you get their Amazon Prime video streaming you get a free subscribe per
13:58 month on Twitch TV as well as adree viewing on Twitch and of course you get
14:04 free shipping on thousands and thousands
14:07 of items or even same day shipping on other more different thousands of items
14:11 it costs only a hundred bucks a year and you can check it out at the link in the
14:14 video description if you are not already an Amazon Prime member I highly
14:18 recommend it I have two Amazon Prime memberships I actually do one for Canada
14:24 and one for the US thanks for watching if you disliked
14:27 dislike but if you liked Hit that like button get subscribed maybe consider
14:31 joining our community Forum uh checking out the link to where to buy the stuff
14:34 we featured in the video description or joining uh wait uh also we have shirts
14:39 right those are done there as well now that you're done doing all that stuff you're probably wondering what to watch
14:43 next so check out our latest video which will be I think we have a new outro
14:47 animation so on there yeah
