today I am going to be unboxing the
0:03
granddaddy of all Corsair power supplies
0:06
this is part of their new a series this is the Corsair ax
0:11
1200 that means this is a
0:15
1.2 kilowatt power supply and in
0:18
addition to coming with a 7-year warranty it is 80 plus gold that means
0:24
it's near 90% efficiency in almost all
0:27
scenarios T has okay Mission CR iCal stability unprecedented flexibility with
0:32
a fully modular design and Industry
0:35
leading protection okay so yeah we covered that already with the 7-year
0:39
warranty on the back you can see Corsair gives you some informations about what
0:43
kind of connectors come with it so you have 120 or 24 pin two EPS four pin and
0:49
8 Pin compatible so they're both uh four plus fours I believe six PCIe six pins
0:55
and8 pin compatible so 6 Plus twos you can see they look like that 16 de
1:00
SATA wow 12 four pin Molex and then two
1:05
floppy adapters now you can't necessarily plug in all of those at the
1:08
same time it is a fully modular power supply so it is designed for you to only
1:12
use the cables you require here we can see noise so it actually the fan doesn't
1:17
Okay the fan doesn't even begin to ramp up from its nominal speed until you hit
1:22
a 600 wat load hilarious and then it
1:26
doesn't actually go above about 25 DB until you hit hit
1:31
850 watts and after that it starts to uh
1:34
it starts to really ramp up and then here's our efficiency So at around 600
1:38
watts that's where you see your highest efficiency over 90% even with 120 volt
1:43
wall power incredible so obviously as you may or
1:49
may not expect this is quite an expensive power I'm zoomed in there's
1:52
the problem this is quite an expensive power supply so I'm going to go ahead
1:56
and unbox it for your viewing pleasure
2:04
uses the same packaging as the 750 and the 850 watt
2:10
versions so that means that you've got an outer sleeve here that just comes
2:14
right off so I'm going to go ahead and uh take a bit of a step back which
2:18
doesn't help if I keep carrying the product with me so we just kind of open
2:22
that up from the top there we go and then we have a plain brown box
2:26
inside oh man that's heavy
2:30
oh that is one heavy power supply it's like heavy
2:35
man it's
2:39
deep all right so there's a quantity of one in here here is the uh common manual
2:45
for the 750 850 and 12200 here is a very beefy power
2:52
cord next we have the baggie of modular
2:56
cables which is very very full as you
2:59
can see okay so we'll have a closer look at that after although we already covered which connectors there are so
3:04
we're not going to look quite as closely at it as we did with the six with the
3:07
850 W rather four black screws for attaching the power supply to the case
3:12
one Corsair case badge some cable ties
3:15
and as you can see if you go further into the box you will find one cat
3:20
excuse me sir come say hi say hi doesn't want to
3:26
say hi look over here nope okay get down
3:30
then all right next we find the power
3:33
supply itself it is wrapped in a gym
3:37
bag withd drawring okay hey there's something
3:41
probably a part number for the gym bag if you ever need to replace it and then
3:45
we're going to dump out the power supply itself and by dump out I mean remove
3:49
carefully because this is uh the oh boy
3:53
that's bad don't chew on that please go on go on thank you sorry I saw him out
4:00
of the corner of my eye there and I kind of went wow we can't have that going on
4:04
not on my watch all right there we go so this
4:09
since this is pretty much the Beating Heart of your system you want to be very
4:13
very gentle with it treat it like you
4:16
would something that protects your entire computer and Powers it there
4:20
treat it exactly like that all right so here we find a legend on the back of the
4:25
power supply so here we go 24 pin ATX
4:28
plugs in there here we have peripheral and SATA here we
4:33
have 6 plus2 PCIe and 4+4 CPU so you can
4:37
see you can do uh two 4 plus 4S so that
4:41
means that you can run boards like uh classified boards Rampage Three extremes
4:45
boards that require two eight pins well they don't require them but they can use
4:49
them and then you can run up to three
4:53
dual plug graphics cards whether they need a six pin or whether they need an
4:57
eight pin so let's have a look at were provided in terms of modular peripheral
5:01
and SATA cables so you can see the MOX
5:05
ones include uh four connections per cable and then there's probably a couple
5:10
that have only two just in case you don't want to use four so there's another
5:13
four here we have okay here's one with four
5:17
SATA here's one with only two SATA aha
5:20
so they give you lots of options in terms of here's one with four
5:24
SATA here's one with four SATA here's
5:28
one with four Mox and then here's one with two SATA so you
5:33
got just a ton of options here's the adapters I was talking about Molex to
5:37
Floppy and then the rest of the ones in here are sleeved very nicely so these
5:41
are all of the 6 plus2 pins as well as the 4 plus4 pins and the 24 pin
5:46
connector why don't we pull the 24 pin out just have a look at that there you
5:50
go there's our 24 pin very again very
5:54
nice black sleeving I really like the way Corsair does their cables with the
5:57
black wires black connectors black sleeving it just black goes well with
6:02
anything so why not just make everything black okay on the side you see Corsair
6:06
branding ax1200 there's a bit of a gold theme and that goes along with the 80
6:10
plus gold on the top you are going to
6:14
notice one of the most remarkable things about this power supply if I zoom in on
6:18
the label and let me see if I can uh just here right there
6:25
100.4 amps on a single 12vt rail that is
6:31
serious business that is uh able of wow
6:35
look at that capable of providing
6:39
1,248 wats on the 12vt rail
6:43
alone I'm going to let you take that in for a little
6:47
while
6:51
yeah so now let's look at the rest of the power supply got some more Corsair
6:55
branding on the other side got a what appears to be a I think it's a 135 mil
7:01
fan although I could be wrong it could be 120 mil it's tough to eyeball these
7:06
things when it's installed in a power supply because power supplies are not a
7:10
standard size so you can't just kind of go based on uh you know how far it is
7:14
from here you got to kind of eyeball it at the edges I'm pretty sure that's a 135 mil at the back you will find your
7:19
kind of pretty much standard honeycomb back with a on andof switch and a plugin
7:24
uh it's nice to see that the ax200 doesn't use that non-standard plug that
7:28
many of the other high wattage ones do I realized there's a reason that they use
7:31
it but uh I'm glad that Corsair did not see fit to equip this with one of those
7:36
and that's pretty much it thank you for checking out my unboxing of the Corsair
7:40
Professional Series gold ax
7:44
1200 Uber awesome
7:50
powerful fully modular
7:54
efficient and Silent power supply
