did an installation guide like this a little while back but I thought I'd do
0:04
one for the Radeon 6870 since in my opinion it's going to
0:10
be a very popular card so the first
0:13
thing you're going to want to do is make sure that you have enough space in your
0:17
case and that is means in terms of length so if you have hard drive cages
0:22
that are positioned uh just to the right of your motherboard or if you have any
0:26
other obstacles that might be there the 6870 is about the length of a
0:31
motherboard so it should be in fact it is exactly the length of a motherboard
0:35
standard apx motherboard so it should be
0:38
fairly easy oh okay not quite exactly I'm sorry it's just like almost exactly
0:42
there you can see how close it is so it should be fairly easy to eyeball based
0:46
on that whether there is enough room in your case another thing to bear in mind
0:49
is this is a dual slot card and you're going to want the next one over free or
0:54
at least okay so let's say here theoretically you've got your card installed here in the top slot okay and
1:00
there's one in the next one but it's like a short one like that killer neck
1:03
right there as long as that fan has Breathing Room you should be in pretty good shape so the fan down there all
1:09
right so that's another thing to bear in mind you do need two slots so you got
1:12
two mounting screw points right there other things you will need you will need
1:16
two PCI Express six pin power connectors
1:20
so in my case uh that is check and check
1:24
these are both 6 plus 2 pins so they can be plugged into either a six pin or an 8
1:29
Pin slot on on a graphics card so from there you take off the screws which I
1:34
have already done oh no no no okay take off your side panel which I have already
1:38
done you take off your screws which I have apparently already done you
1:42
position the card after grounding yourself which means touching the power
1:47
supply while it's plugged into the
1:51
wall there's a cat okay so you position
1:54
it above the slot making sure that you've here's a common mistake make sure
1:59
this metal part right here isn't pressing into the motherboard when you
2:02
go to push it in you see there's a little tiny Gap back there make sure
2:06
it's in the Gap make sure it's not pushing into the board I've done that
2:10
it's usually bad results okay so you
2:14
position it above the slot and then push firmly so I'm going to use my camera
2:18
hand in addition to my other hand push firmly on the entire card until it sits
2:23
into the slot okay so you'll be able to see now it's there's a little bit of
2:26
wiggle room but it's pretty much in there so you should use two screws to
2:31
secure this particular card one goes here I'm using thumb
2:36
screws lots of different cases have lots of different mounting mechanisms what I
2:40
tend to do is I give the card a bit of a lift as I'm screwing it in so what that
2:44
does is it makes sure that I don't have any undue weight or strain being left on
2:48
the socket okay and then the screw threading
2:53
is broken on my case so I just push the screw in that's all I can really do
2:58
there that's his that's his in as it goes all right then we connect the power
3:05
connectors which is pretty straightforward hide those extra two
3:11
pins and that's it that's my 6870
3:14
installation guide you have now installed a Radeon 6870 enjoy your
3:18
direct X10 gaming performance featuring The MSI 6870 they've even got like an
3:25
afterburner ad on their card it's a good piece of software but yeah
