0:00 so today I'm going to be having a quick look at the Microsoft Arc Mouse now I
0:04 unboxed The Arc keyboard quite recently
0:07 and while I had thought it was new it turns out that was one of my co-workers
0:10 playing a prank on me I didn't even think to look it up and find out that
0:14 the art keyboard is not a new product at all but I figured hey since I've you
0:18 know gone and unboxed the keyboard I might as well do the mouse too so it
0:21 works with Windows 7 Windows Vista Windows XP
0:25 OSX and that's pretty much it as far as what it says on that side it is designed
0:30 for comfort and folds for portability so that's pretty cool then it has a picture
0:34 of the mouse and then on the back we find the mouse folds on a strong metal
0:39 hinge to 60% of its fully expanded size
0:42 the fooling motion turns the mouse on or off and the microtrans snaps into the
0:46 bottom of the mouse just like the keyboard I'm assuming the advanced
0:49 performance includes laser tracking for precision and 2.4 GHz Wireless with up
0:53 to 30 foot range so something like this would be perfect like I said with the
0:57 keyboard that isn't new for something
1:00 like a media PC you know if you want something that just kind of you can sit
1:05 on the couch it doesn't take up a lot of space that sort of thing so here is the
1:09 mouse itself so it has kind of a neat shape to it and I'm still kind of
1:14 puzzling about how to get the Box open like this almost looks like something
1:18 that should sit on a retail like a retail hook if it had a little thing
1:21 here like where it would just sit like this that would kind of work for it too
1:25 I think that's okay let's open it up
1:29 okay and here the have the little test pry thing Ms color bar
1:34 V5 okay that's not important all right inside we find documentation including
1:41 the Microsoft product guide which tells you how to avoid damaging it how to
1:46 select an appropriate power source how to use a mouse and keyboard without
1:50 injuring yourself how to not look directly into the laser all right all
1:54 the useful information download software hey hey Microsoft has it figured out
1:59 look at this they don't include a software DVD all you do is you download
2:02 the software from microsoft.com Hardware this is what I always tell people to do
2:06 anyway brilliant okay so then that's
2:09 pretty much all it oh no it has more information so oh you need to install
2:13 the batteries insert the transceiver and then fold for portability when you're
2:16 not using it so that's a very simple very simple setup guide there we
2:21 go I don't know what's going to be in here this is a mystery but you open this
2:26 up and then inside we find B batteries
2:31 so this accepts AAA batteries and it includes a couple of durol ones by
2:35 default I'm guessing this pouch is for the mouse it's kind of a um like a suy
2:40 sort of leathery material seems
2:44 reasonably durable there's like little stiffener pieces in the top and I'm oh
2:49 it's they're magnetic strips look at
2:53 that so that keeps the bag closed even though it's actually quite easy to open
2:57 because they're like those flexible magnets very cool
3:00 okay um and inside here so I figured out
3:04 how to get the mouse up you take these two little tabs you fold them down and
3:08 then once you do that the whole plastic tab will fit up through the top and then
3:13 the mouse will come out just like that now that was simple okay so here at the
3:17 bottom of the mouse we find the little USB transceiver which clips into place
3:21 with a magnet so appropriate use of magnets on this particular product it's
3:25 very very small and the mouse itself is actually also very very small cameraman
3:29 just got an SSD so he wants me to compare it in size to his SSD which
3:33 he'll be using to not take forever to load games while we wait for him in the
3:37 uh in the lobby okay so there's his SSD and here is the mouse so here we have a
3:42 scroll wheel we have a left and a right click so it's nothing too complicated as
3:46 far as that goes the ergonomic shape is actually it's not bad considering how
3:51 small it folds up so why don't we take the mouse and put it inside the little
3:54 pouch cuz that's where it's supposed to go so the mouse is going home there it
3:58 goes and then you can close it up and then you can throw that in your laptop
4:02 bag I guess it actually has quite a bit of strength even when it's folded like
4:06 you you wouldn't worry about breaking it you can see how it's it's braced quite
4:09 well against itself there so let me have a look oh it's got non-slip pads here
4:14 and here so if you're using it on a Surface where you know it's not
4:17 particularly slippery you still don't have to really worry about that the
4:20 Laser's in not a centered location but I'm going to go ahead and assume that it
4:24 still works fine let's get the battery compartment open so if we were going to
4:28 install the batteries you'd put them in here and I think that pretty much covers
4:32 it you know what before we before we wrap this up why don't I just go over to
4:36 cameraman's desk here put it next to his other Microsoft mouse which I hate this
4:41 mouse it's so like laggy um but this one
4:44 seems like it would probably be pretty good oh it has another button check this out it's uh got what I'm going to assume
4:50 is a browser back button which in my opinion is an essential button on any
4:54 Mouse these days I can't remember how I lived without it it's like going back to
4:57 a mouse that doesn't have a scroll wheel like that's that'd be the worst thing
5:01 ever so it actually has four buttons 1 2 3 four so you can press the middle click
5:06 it feels not bad I'm actually really surprised and I I'm kind of harping on
5:10 this issue but it actually feels surprisingly good the mouse buttons have
5:13 a good clicky tactile feel to them this is a little bit Out Of Reach for me like
5:17 if I had if I had bigger hands you can see my thumb isn't even close to
5:21 reaching that button but I don't don't think it'd be a problem for me if I had
5:24 bigger hands either way thank you for checking out my unboxing and first look
5:28 at the Microsoft art foldable portable mouse
