0:00 the 15in LG gam notebook that I reviewed
0:04 last year didn't have the greatest keyboard or a super crisp high
0:08 resolution screen it didn't have the best battery life and the strength of
0:13 its construction was frankly subpar but it got a very positive review
0:20 because I understood the Steep learning curve associated with engineering such a
0:26 unique product the world's lightest 50
0:29 15-in laptop under 1 kg well now they've had a year to
0:35 reflect on their experience and refine the design so the 2017 iteration of the
0:41 LG gram will get no such special
0:45 treatment let's see how it
0:54 fars the master keys Pro keyboard lineup from Cooler Master is available in three
0:59 siid each in white or RGB flavors check them
1:03 out at the link below right out of the gate LG's increased confidence in the
1:08 gram product line is apparent we get three different screen sizes to choose
1:12 from and the variety of configurations and colors available is wider our 14
1:19 iner is equipped with a dual core Core i5 7200 U 8 gigs of RAM and a 256 gig
1:24 SATA 3 SSD while our 15.6 in rocks a
1:28 core i775 500 U 16 gigs of RAM and a 512
1:34 gig SATA 3 SSD and there have been some other changes too for one thing the
1:39 topend 15.6 in model weighs more than a
1:43 kilogram now with the 14in coming in at
1:47 almost the same weight as last year's
1:50 15.6 wait what wasn't the weight the
1:54 whole point of the gram name even well
1:58 maybe but don't care because you get a whole lot of awesome stuff for your 10%
2:04 weight increase without in my mind giving up a noticeable amount of the
2:10 portability of it first up the lousy hinge has been replaced by one that's
2:14 damn near perfect this is more impressive than you might think one
2:18 finger lift is not easy on a device that
2:21 weighs so little next up all three gam
2:25 sizes are available with multi-touch screens now the 1080p IPS display still
2:30 isn't dazzlingly bright and suffers from worse than usual glare under non- ideal
2:35 conditions and I think strengthening it
2:38 a little bit to reduce wobble is especially important for something
2:42 you're supposed to touch but I'd still rather have this feature than not third
2:46 up the addition of a backlight on the
2:50 keyboard woo I mean I got nothing negative to say about it it's got two
2:55 brightness levels and works as you would expect the absence of this on last
3:00 year's model was one of my main gripes about it along with number four
3:06 unexceptional battery life which has been well let's just say the battery got
3:11 more roed up than '90s Major League
3:14 Baseball all three models 13 14 and 15.6
3:19 in get 60 wat hour batteries that's
3:23 about 85% of the capacity that powers a thin
3:27 and light gaming notebook like the blade for 3 to 4 hours except that by
3:33 comparison the gram sips power LG did
3:37 this cool video showcasing a sponsored art collab that was created on a single
3:43 charge on the gram and that was neat but
3:46 to put it in a more practical everyday perspective I forgot my laptop charger
3:50 at the office on Friday used it as I
3:54 normally would over the weekend and still had 30% left when I got into the
3:58 office on Monday morning the last machine I had that freed me from
4:03 worrying about the location of the nearest wall outlet like that was the
4:07 2015 MacBook and unlike that thing the
4:11 gram has ports though while the USBC
4:15 Port can be used for 4K 60 HZ output and
4:18 I'm pretty darn thankful for the micro SD and type a USB 3s I do think that the
4:24 load out could have been better Thunderbolt 3 and HDMI 2.0 would be
4:29 welcome editions on the next model and
4:32 Imo charging should really be handled by
4:35 another type c port and while I'm at it the speakers
4:40 sound like they're coming from somewhere under my desk probably because that's
4:44 where they're pointed the webcam location not to mention the image
4:48 quality sucks the big one I'd like to see it moved above the display even if
4:53 it costs me a few grams and while the
4:56 click pad actually feels pretty decent in day-to-day use objectively it really
5:02 needs to be better built on a device that costs this much with that said the
5:07 2x2 Wi-Fi implementation is a solid B minus managing over 30 megabytes per
5:13 second in my standard test location and the keyboard wins back a lot of the
5:17 points I just deducted there are a couple of layout Oddities I'm not a huge
5:23 fan of the power button here instead of delete but the key switches are
5:28 surprisingly satisfying to type on and there's a pleasant soft touch coding on
5:32 the key caps which add up to an overall really enjoyable typing experience and
5:37 this is critical for a hyper portable machine like this because even though
5:42 the simple cooling solution kept everything under control at reasonable
5:46 noise levels even with no thermal throttling these uclass dual cores
5:51 aren't beefy enough to do much more than
5:55 sit and work on them they just do it for a really really really really long time
6:01 in the LG gram got a point you need to
6:04 make but not the right image to illustrate it well you can find the
6:09 perfect asset for your next creative project with Adobe stock they've got
6:13 millions of images graphics and videos
6:16 that are built right into Photoshop illustrator and other apps making it so
6:20 you can spend your time designing instead of searching for images that you
6:26 have the rights to use you can preview watermarked images in inside your
6:30 designs then license access and manage them within your Adobe desktop apps you
6:34 can pay as you go or you can save by signing up for a subscription plan if
6:39 you sign up today you get 10 free images as part of their trial so check it out
