0:00 okay so we're going to be trying to set up the WD My Book Elite so we're going
0:05 to try and follow their three easy steps
0:08 now I've taken the liberty of plugging in the power cord under the table
0:13 already so that I don't have to do that on camera but we're going to plug the
0:16 power supply into the back of the unit
0:19 right about here DC in and then the next
0:23 thing we're going to do oh I saw some lights go on inside the next thing we're
0:26 going to do is we're going to plug in the USB cable here which I've already
0:29 pluged plug into the back of my test bed PC okay and then I'm going to press the
0:34 power button everybody hold your
0:40 breath okay the activity LED is going
0:44 aha here we go so on the screen now I have two two menus I have one autoplay
0:50 for the virtual uh CD drive smartware uh
0:55 yes I would like to allow the computer to run that so here we go backup files or setup
1:02 Drive which would you like to do oh cool
1:06 look at this you just Mouse over and it shows different
1:11 stuff that's kind of neat little animations to help you
1:15 figure out what everything is okay fine setup Drive okay so you can back up your
1:20 file security data automatically check for okay yeah let's install that
1:26 accept Okay and then the other menu that came up was just to access the data on
1:30 the drive itself where obviously there's no there's no Wizards involved or
1:34 anything you just copy paste and that's your one tab of storage so actually let
1:40 me see what it says so it is 930 gigs
1:43 once it's formatted okay so here the smartware was
1:48 successfully installed let's continue the set up okay label uh let's put a
1:53 label on this okay here actually here cameraman look at this okay so the drive
1:57 came like this which looks as far as I can tell like a p like a piece of paper
2:02 but you can see it is changing now so the way the display works it actually
2:06 doesn't seem to need any power it's like e in or something so let's set a label
2:11 of Linus
2:15 is cool and let's see if it'll do that
2:18 okay uh save label name
2:23 oh okay yes lus is cool okay awesome and
2:28 then I can set a password The password
2:31 should be lonus and then the verify is lus
2:38 cameraman's totally in my way here and then the hint is me I understand save
2:43 the security settings okay I don't want to register the drive so um
2:50 continue okay there we go so now we have the the software set up here's our
2:55 little visual indicator that shows nothing oh cool cool so this shows
3:01 my C drive and it shows me how much is pictures how much is other music movies
3:05 documents and system and then how much is free and then this is my
3:10 book and so the additional files would be the built-in software so that we
3:15 didn't have to use a driver CD and then as soon as we start to fill it up with
3:20 uh with photos and stuff so why don't we try dragging a couple over there I guess
3:25 this should populate maybe it takes a little while
3:28 though so give it some time so back up you can actually run the backup at any
3:32 time and then retrieve so you can retrieve a backup here are your backup
3:36 volumes that's pretty cool this has gotten a lot better since the last time
3:40 I used one of these drives I'll tell you that much okay so that was pretty much
3:44 it thank you for checking out our little setup guide on the my book Elite and
3:48 don't forget lus is cool and he has 930 GB free and the drive is secure cool
