0:00 - In here we have one of the best gaming laptops on the market,
0:03 but ASUS sponsor this video for us to look at the box?
0:07 So let's have a look.
0:10 Let's see here. Is this the cool box?
0:17 Oh, hell yeah. It's cap time.
0:20 This is the Alan Walker Edition Zephyrus G14.
0:23 Absolutely love the Zephyrus G14. Not 100% sure who Alan Walker is.
0:28 He's a DJ who is massive. I looked up one of his video has like
0:32 billions of views. I'm not one of them.
0:36 (Jono talking) It seems like good music.
0:39 I don't know. - [Brando] It's fine. Yeah. - [Jono] He's only 24.
0:43 - He's only 24, (beep). How many views does LTT have, just like overall?
0:47 It would be brutal if he has like, one music video that's more than our entire lives worth.
0:52 Oh, we've got some socks. I'm not going to give (indistinct) any (indistinct).
0:55 And a power brick. Real simple, 180 watts.
0:59 It is half a powerful one. And a C to C cord.
1:03 Sure. I do believe that it does have Type C charging.
1:06 I don't know what it's up to on this one, but the last one was 60 watts. So this one is probably about the same.
1:11 Is this the cool box?
1:15 So it looks like a really good laptop case.
1:19 Yeah, fancy. This does seem like it is seatbelt.
1:25 Feels very strong. That's a nice little carrying case. Okay, okay.
1:29 Where's the cool box? Oh, it's actually the box of the laptop, it would appear.
1:36 This way. Join the Walkers.
1:40 Sure. - [Jono] White Walker? - Well,
1:45 so I believe these are all like capacitive buttons basically
1:49 that allow you to DJ. Well, we'll see how good I do at that.
1:53 But, yeah I like making music. It's all bad though.
1:58 (beep) Okay, this is actually really nice.
2:02 Like the details on here. They have like the seatbelt material
2:07 put right into the lid. This is very nice box, ASUS.
2:11 - [Jono] Oh, it's the laptop. - Yeah. It's in the laptop.
2:14 - [Jono] Ooh, I thought it was like a box for the laptop.
2:17 - No, this thing looks sick. (beep)
2:21 I do have to say this is a mighty fine looking laptop.
2:26 And what else do we have in here? G Series, Gaming up a PC, Warranty.
2:31 Don't get that. I think I see other stuff.
2:34 Huh. So let's have a little look at what they have going on in here.
2:37 I feel like we're not supposed to take the top off, but we did.
2:41 We have a little board here, the Type C that they had included,
2:46 goes right in there. What is this?
2:50 I don't want to pull it out and break it, but I do want to know what it is.
2:53 I'm assuming it's a Raspberry Pi or an Arduino.
2:57 But I can't see the bits that tell me what it actually is.
3:00 We'll get the laptop running then we'll have a little look at the box.
3:04 All right. Let's turn this guy on.
3:08 So we've got this fancy Alan Walker background.
3:12 We're also going to plug it in. - [Brandon] I like the blue. - Yeah.
3:16 The blue looks really cool with the like gray and black as well.
3:20 A plus color scheme, Mr. Walker.
3:24 (Alexander laughing) Virtual pet?
3:28 Okay, I've got to see this.
3:31 I just clicked on virtual pet. Is it doing anything on the back? - [Brandon] Yes, it is. - [Alexander] Oh, that's fun.
3:35 Can I just put whatever I want on here?
3:38 Did that work, Brandon? - [Brandon] Yup. - Hell yeah.
3:42 I'll add in a couple more.
3:47 Why is it flashing now? Oh, Brandon so you said this might drain the battery.
3:50 There is a thing that you can do so that at a certain battery level,
3:55 it'll turn it off. Oh wait. No, I'm wrong.
4:00 You could have it display your battery level.
4:04 Okay, I was hoping I could just figure it out, but I think that I need to look at that QR code.
4:09 Where did that go? Okay, it took me to a video.
4:14 - [Jono] Even those sound effects sound good. - Okay, it seems like you just plug it in and it works.
4:20 Oh yeah, since I guess we're plugging this in, we can show off the IO. So DC power in right here.
4:25 Full-size HDMI, love to see that. We also have USB Type C.
4:30 Audio out 3.5 millimeter. Another Type C and two Type A's.
4:34 So you know, for a gaming laptop these days, that's pretty freaking great.
4:38 And let's get this thing going. I really hope it just launches the app.
4:42 That would be fantastic. Hell yeah, it just launched the app.
4:46 Perfect. I hit play now. Oh, it worked!
4:49 Yeah. (music playing)
4:58 - [Jono] Oh, that's cool! - Okay. So we have a low pass filter here.
5:02 (music playing)
5:09 Make it more faster. (fast music playing)
5:12 Now it's like a video game. Samplers. (various sounds playing)
5:24 Okay. So this allows me to change what samples I have. (electric music)
5:31 Okay. Samples 2.
5:34 (upbeat music) One.
5:37 (upbeat music) Oh, I like that one. (upbeat music)
5:42 (various sounds playing)
5:46 I wish that they had just a drum one. I guess that's kind of number two.
5:50 (upbeat sound playing) You probably just use this as a drum, like...
5:54 (box tapping) - [Jono] But it's not recorder though.
5:57 (box tapping) (upbeat sound playing)
6:01 It doesn't have the snap that I was hoping for. (box tapping)
6:05 (Alexander laughing) There's a lot of latency. That's the thing that I always hate about things like this.
6:09 You have to use like a special USB interface protocol basically
6:14 for it not to have brutal latency. So it's like,
6:18 'cause that little bit of a delay is way more than enough for everything to sound terrible.
6:24 So yeah, there's a bit of fun to be had with the box.
6:27 As far as laptop boxes go, this is probably the best one for creating music
6:33 that I've ever seen, but the latency's way better on this.
6:37 'cause like... (box tapping) You can't do that in this thing, like...
6:41 (various sounds playing)
6:45 (Alexander laughing) Yeah. Yeah. Okay. Okay. We're moving on.
6:50 Back to the laptop though. The Zephyrus G14 was basically
6:54 the best gaming laptop of 2020.
6:57 It was the first one that came out with Ryzen 4000
7:01 and just punted all of the competition,
7:04 just completely destroyed all of them. So let's take a look at the specs here.
7:07 So we have the Ryzen 9 5900HS.
7:10 That's basically the fastest mobile processor that you can get at least in a laptop that's of this size.
7:18 We also have 16GB of RAM. The Wi-Fi cards, a Medaiatek Wi-Fi 6 one.
7:25 In my experience, they're fine. But the drivers,
7:29 they just need to be a bit more mature. And for the GPU, it's an RTX 3050 Ti.
7:35 And now this is kind of where the Alan Walker Edition
7:39 is a bit of a disappointment. So this right here is a $2,000 laptop
7:46 where you're paying for a hat and a cool box,
7:49 but you can also get a G14 for $450 less
7:55 with an RTX 3060. So if you want one, that looks cool
7:59 you get this one, but if you want one that's cheaper and faster,
8:04 you get the one with the 3060.
8:07 Actually it is kind of an oof, Jono. I wish that this one was $200 more and had a 3060 in it.
8:13 'Cause like, when you're making funky versions of stuff, just make it the best one.
8:16 This thing will be a beast for music making like you've got the CPU.
8:21 It could use maybe a bit more RAM, but at the same time, we'll open up later, you can upgrade it.
8:26 And we also have a 1TB SSD from Samsung.
8:31 Moving on from the inside to the outside though,
8:34 the G14 is just a fantastically built laptop.
8:38 Like it's a magnesium alloy chassis,
8:41 very stiff. You can see like a little bit of deflection
8:44 if you're pushing in the center there, but like it's really good feeling.
8:48 The track pad. I do wish it was slightly bigger,
8:51 mostly because ASUS gave us the G15 now
8:55 that has one of the best track pads
8:58 on a gaming laptop on the market. I would really like to see something a bit more like this.
9:03 Then again, you're probably not going to care too much about the track pad size 'cause like,
9:07 it's good and this thing's really small and light
9:11 like ASUS did do a fantastic job.
9:14 This one's actually the N16, but the G14 is just so much easier to like
9:21 chuck in your backpack, take around, it's shockingly light for how much power
9:26 and performance there is in here. Moving on to the keyboard.
9:29 (keyboard clicking) Yeah. There's plenty of travel.
9:33 It doesn't quite have the snappiness of some other keyboards,
9:37 but it's the kind of thing where when it's a gaming laptop, you want to be able to easily press it.
9:41 And also like you're going to be holding down W you don't want to have
9:45 a whole bunch of force pushing back up. It's much nicer to have just that like lighter actuation,
9:51 even if it does lightly harm your typing,
9:54 it helps you a lot in games. All the way for the GPU drivers to install.
9:58 Another thing that's fantastic about this laptop is that in the power button,
10:03 there is a fingerprint reader, but it does it so that when you press it,
10:07 it catches your fingerprint. So when it's brought up by Windows,
10:11 it just gives you the authentication and you only have to press the power button once.
10:15 Sick. It's so good. There's obviously no Windows Hello
10:19 because there's no webcam. If you want a webcam, don't buy this, I guess.
10:25 Or you can just get an external one. They normally look way better than what you get anyway.
10:29 Oh, yes. I just checked and they do have the AI noise cancellation software.
10:33 So you're not able to see yourself, but at least if you're playing games
10:37 with people on Discord, you are going to sound decent. Just going to hop into Valheim,
10:41 have a little run around. All rights, so unsurprisingly,
10:46 Valheim runs excellently. It also like the fans ramped up,
10:51 but it really isn't all that loud. And we're in the performance setting.
10:54 So this is as loud as it get, basically.
10:59 Well you have a 1440P panel, that is 120 hertz
11:04 and it looks frigging fantastic.
11:07 It's also color calibrated and no complaints.
11:12 This is basically just like the panel
11:15 to have on a laptop these days. Look at that sky.
11:18 Beautiful. The nice old tree. I forgot what it's called,
11:21 but it's a good tree. (audience laughing)
11:25 Valheim confirmed good, but will a 3050 Ti
11:28 be able to hold up to Cyberpunk?
11:32 Okay. We're just going high graphics,
11:35 that should be fine. 1440P.
11:38 Okay. This, this looks really good, actually.
11:43 Oh, we are getting a couple of drops here and there.
11:47 So maybe high details, not quite what you'll be able to do on this system.
11:52 You're looking probably more along the lines of like
11:55 medium high-ish. This seems like the kind of thing where
11:59 I could tweak one or two settings and get a solid game play experience
12:04 instead of right now where it's mostly good.
12:07 Then again, it might also just be this game.
12:10 Okay. Can I just get like in a gun battle? Yeah. I'm just shooting people to try and okay,
12:15 there's someone.
12:18 Well, I'm dead, but the game looks really good. So there you go.
12:23 Do you know what also looks really good? The inside of this laptop, I imagine.
12:26 Let's find out. All right. Took it apart. I really liked that they have a captive screw here
12:31 that pops the chassis open. It makes getting in just that little bit easier.
12:35 You don't have to, yeah.
12:38 It's just very easy. So for RAM, they have 8GB of it on board.
12:44 You can't do anything with that, but you do also have
12:47 one sodimm slot, so you can swap that out. So you could get like 24GB of RAM.
12:53 You could also put a 32 gig stick in there, and have, what?
12:58 40? Yeah. Math is hard. We also can see our wonderful SSD right here.
13:03 Wow. That's a lot smaller than expecting for 1TB,
13:06 but that's fine. We also have a 76WHr battery.
13:10 So the last one had over 10 hours of battery life,
13:14 which was like at the time, unheard of in a gaming laptop.
13:18 AMD is fantastic for having good battery life.
13:21 This one right here, I can't confirm it, but I'm guessing it's pretty much the same.
13:25 Like this is such a great laptop for like
13:28 using as a laptop for school or work
13:32 or what have you and also as a gaming laptop.
13:35 You don't have to have just like your battle station laptop.
13:39 It's the sort of thing that you can use everywhere. And it's not really compromised.
13:44 Zephyrus G14, fantastic laptop.
13:47 Should you get the Alan Walker edition? If you think it looks cool, then sure go for it.
13:51 But I probably get the one that's a lot cheaper and also faster.
13:55 So huge thanks again to ASUS for sponsoring this video. G14, fantastic laptop.
14:00 It's probably linked to right down there and just have a fantastic day,
14:04 Like, hit subscribe, so long.
