0:00 - How am I even supposed to know what I'm doing?
0:03 I just quit the game! Okay. This one I'm really excited about.
0:08 The original OneXPlayer Handheld Gaming PC came out of absolutely nowhere
0:14 as a heavyweight contender against more established players,
0:17 like AYA, and probably more importantly, GPD.
0:20 But one of my issues with it was that while the specs were really good,
0:24 Intel processor, XC graphics, I actually found the size of it
0:28 to be a little on the bulky side.
0:31 Well, now they're back, with the OneXPlayer mini that immediately is a huge ergonomic improvement.
0:38 Okay, sorry, sorry, sorry. Let's get focused.
0:42 So we got our USB type C charging cable, presumably this is a USB type C wall wart.
0:48 Yup. Holy bananas! 20 volts 5 amps?
0:52 This is 100 watt charger? Fricking 100 Watts in the palm of your hand.
0:57 It is, it's gallium nitride, I kind of figured it would have to be
1:00 at this kind of power density. Oh the contours are nice.
1:05 Now, it doesn't have the same kind of low profile that you get out of something like the AYANEO,
1:10 you can see it's substantially thicker, but the screen size is the same,
1:16 the actual width is only marginally greater.
1:19 So you can see that it's just a touch wider.
1:22 The height is nearly identical. It's a lot thicker, but in a meaningful way,
1:28 like see this? One of the issues with the AYANEO is that you have to kind of like claw grip it, right?
1:34 The team over at OneXPlayer figured, okay, well let's just mold those,
1:38 so they fit the hand really nicely. I actually, I think they've done a great job of the ergonomics here.
1:43 It looks like we've got an intake at the back, vent on the top, just like on the AYANEO.
1:48 And in terms of IO, they're quite competitive, it looks like they're gonna come out ahead
1:53 of the Steam Deck. So we've got USB type C on the bottom, along with what looked like guides for a dock,
1:58 though there's no dock included with our particular unit, another USB type C on the top.
2:02 This is great because unlike the Steam Deck, that means you'll be able to charge the device
2:07 either from the bottom or the top, depending on what works better for you. It's got a USB type A,
2:11 it's really nice to be able to just plug in a keyboard real quick, type something.
2:15 Analog triggers, this was one of the major advantages
2:18 for the OneXPlayer original versus the AYANEO.
2:21 Now, AYA has since upgraded with analog triggers.
2:25 So the 2021 pro version has that. But if you're into a longer travel
2:28 the OneXPlayer mini looks like they're out ahead there. Joysticks, feel pretty good, not super low profile.
2:35 I think they've done a pretty solid job with the D-Pad, nice short travel, very responsive feeling.
2:40 And the A, B, X, Y's, actually same thing. By the way, if you're wondering
2:43 where I got this sweet hoodie, lttstore.com obviously.
2:48 It's a terry cloth inside, which has the added benefit
2:52 of being really great for wiping screens (chuckles). Keyboard button,
2:55 Oh see? It's the same thing on the AYANEO, where it brings up the crappy keyboards.
3:00 So this is the better one, you wanna bring up this one.
3:03 Wow, it's my eye or the OneXPlayer mini is actually a little bit brighter?
3:07 This might actually be more important to me. How dim can it go?
3:11 It looks like both of them are at a very similar level here.
3:14 This video is brought to you by Vessi Footwear. Vessi Footwear is known for being lightweight,
3:19 easy to pack, comfortable, and most importantly, water resistant.
3:23 Designed to keep you moving, Vessi released their new everyday move shoes
3:26 with enhanced breathability and added support. The style is perfect for the adventurous,
3:31 or those looking for something sportier. They've got a pull tab to make putting them on

3:38 and the same water resistant Dynatex technology. So you'll wanna wear them everywhere.
3:43 Keep your feet dry and save 25 bucks with our offer code shortcircuit,
3:46 at Vessi.com/shortcircuit.
3:49 Okay. Now we're getting into one of the other big differences between the OneXPlayer mini and the competition.
3:54 Instead of going with a 1280x800 display, they've gone with 1920x1200,
3:59 so you get that nice taller aspect ratio, and you get the additional sharpness of a full HD display.
4:05 It looks like there's a like a back to desktop button, I like that, I like that a lot.
4:10 - [Jono] Are you going to install Forza? - It's on here.
4:13 Oh, like crashes? - [Jono] Yeah. - I mean, I feel like we should give it a chance
4:17 if it's sitting here optimizing, right? Let's get some other games here.
4:20 A big one for me for evaluating controllers is "Super Meat Boy."
4:25 It gets a little loud, not as loud as the NEO when it's at peak loud boy,
4:30 they're both pretty loud (chuckles). It's really cool having this kind of performance
4:35 in your hands though. Like, do you guys see that? Don't take that for granted.
4:38 Switching back to the Windows desktop, firing up "Forza Horizon 5".
4:42 Now then "Super Meat Boy". Guys, this is a full fledged fricking PC in my pocket here.
4:48 I guess now's a good time to talk about the actual specs of this thing. So it's running a Core i7-1195G7.
4:54 So we can expect turbo speeds as high as five gigahertz, 16 gigs of RAM, probably 4266 Megahertz?
5:00 Yup. It's got a one terabyte SSD,
5:03 AX201 Wi-Fi, so what does that? Is that 6E?
5:07 I believe so. Man, I have not played this game in a while,
5:11 but what I'm supposed to be doing is evaluating the controller.
5:14 And I really like it so far. I'm gonna try the D-pad as well actually.
5:18 Positioning the D-pad? Not great. The benefit of those ergonomic humps
5:23 is that it's a lot more comfortable, but really only if your palm is actually on them
5:28 and on the D-pad it's not really. How do I feel about that on the NEO?
5:31 Honestly, on the NEO I don't find it as bad because you're mostly supported here.
5:35 Although I do find this corner gets kind of sharp, especially due to the weight.
5:39 So that's a factor to consider. This is only 50% done.
5:44 NEO was done. Can you look up if there's any way to skip the "Horizon 5"
5:48 intro cinematic Jono? You have to edit the game files.
5:51 Did the OneXPlayer just crash? 80%,
5:55 at 80%. The game's just gone. Ah.
5:59 And the warranty voided.
6:02 Oh, interesting. No, OneXPlayer, not glue.
6:07 It's more like double-sided tape, but still.
6:12 Well, here's the inside. We're looking at a 40.25 watt hour battery,
6:16 so that's a little less about 10% less than the AYANEO.
6:19 Got our CPU cooler. Oh no.
6:23 Oh guys, why? So what I had in mind was I wanted to take a drive
6:27 that had already been through that optimization process and see if it would just run the game if we could skip it.
6:32 But I don't think that's gonna be easy to do here. I think we just have to say,
6:36 "Okay, Intel has some driver issues to get sorted out
6:39 with XC graphics still. What a shame. Nice robust looking mechanisms for the shoulder,
6:45 as well as the trigger buttons though. By comparison, the shoulders on the AYANEO
6:49 are not as durable. You can see they really could have made
6:53 the unit substantially thinner, if they didn't wanna have these nice big grips.
6:57 Um (chuckles). All right, let's get our volume rocker back on there.
7:02 And this volumes are rocking.
7:06 Well, that went back together nicely. Hopefully it still works. That's one nice thing about having Radeon graphics, man.
7:11 Boy, are they ever better than Intel's onboard drivers. You know, I think I was wrong before,
7:15 the 1080p class display is noticeable, it it's sharper.
7:20 Where the heck is my dongle? Now this is cool. This is a benefit of any more open style device.
7:27 Like the AYANEO, like the Steam Deck, like the OneXPlayer mini,
7:30 being able to just take a standard type C connector,
7:33 of which it has two, plug in a dock or a dongle.
7:37 Boom! HTMI out, Ethernet, USB three, SD card reader.
7:41 And I'm just gonna turn the Wi-Fi off because otherwise Windows just gets too stupid.
7:46 And there you go. Now it goes up.
7:50 I have an extra screw. Crap. Oh no, no, no, it's all good.
7:54 I didn't actually do up the rear screws. All right, now we got some games running on here
7:58 and this looks like absolute butt. It's so blurry and crappy!
8:04 I've seen this before, and I don't know if it's to do with the fact
8:08 that most of these are using vertical displays
8:11 that are turned horizontally, which they are, cause these are typically tablet displays,
8:16 these seven inch displays. But watch this. If I switched to borderless.
8:20 Boom! It's sharp, fixed. Like borderless full screen.
8:25 Why? Why you do this? Well, I guess we're gonna have to run it native res then.
8:30 - [Jono] Oh no. - And this is what I'm talking about.
8:34 (people grumbling) Yeah, if I'm not near any other vehicles.
8:40 Okay. That's settled in a little bit. So I'm getting about 65 FPS, dang!
8:45 Not bad! Looks great! Boy, is that that ever sharp?
8:49 Okay. So, the 1920x1200 screen, not a problem so far,
8:54 let's try something else. I want some "Doom Eternals" boys. No Intel drivers, not supported.
8:59 Let's give it a chance. The only reason I'm even trying this again
9:02 is because I heard that the issue has been resolved. Here we go.
9:08 Really? This'll be our head to head against the NEO 2021 pro,
9:12 cause I've got "Witcher 3" running right over here. That's another really cool use case
9:16 for these kinds of devices, you've got your emulation, you've got your running casual games
9:20 directly on the devices themselves. And then of course, streaming from a nearby gaming PC over Wi-Fi.
9:27 Super cool experience. Okay, why is borderless window like out here?
9:32 Intel has got some scaling issues to figure out
9:35 in their driver here, cause that basically means we're stuck running it at native res.
9:39 This is worse! (people laughing)
9:42 How am I even supposed to know what I'm doing? I just quit the game!
9:47 So what do I need to set it to then? Okay, cool, now we can get it running apples to apples here.
9:54 So assuming the game will run things. Okay, okay, we had a little bit of a hitch
10:00 coming into it there, but that's looking a little more promising.
10:03 Driver issues, like the display scaling thing need to be sorted.
10:07 Okay, we got a little hitch there, so you can see very, very similar kind of smoothness,
10:13 both absolutely playable. For cost reasons, the Steam Deck
10:16 is gonna come out ahead of either of these, but the big difference is that Steam Deck ain't shipping.
10:21 These are in my hands right now. So guys, if you wanna check out the OneXPlayer mini,
10:25 we're gonna have it linked down below. Super cool device.
10:28 Of course, a great middle ground for ergonomics is the Switch OLED,
10:31 which has the same size screen, skinnier than the AYANEO, even at its thickest.
10:36 Banana for scale too. You should get it on the lttstore.com, ShortCircuit banana.
10:41 Get subscribed to ShortCircuit. I think that's it. That's all!
10:44 Blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah.
