0:00 one of the most helpful but least possessed and least used things for
0:04 people building computers is a magnetic Parts tray one of the most abundant
0:08 things in the computer's world are dead hard drives this is actually an equation
0:13 that we can
0:22 solve cooler Masters new master keys Pro L and PR s keyboards feature 16.7
0:27 million color RGB backlighting genuine Cherry MX switches and an
0:31 industry-leading ARM cortex processor learn more at the link in the video
0:35 description we build computers all the time that's kind of like literally our
0:39 job one of the downsides to this is having a huge amount of Hardware boxes
0:43 for Hardware that are missing screws because someone was careless and didn't
0:49 keep track of them properly okay to be fair in most cases that was probably me
0:53 because of that the three sides of my personality are all in unanimous favor
0:57 of lonus who grabbed a load of magnet Parts trays in the past he even featured
1:02 them in a handy Tech under 100 episode 3 which you can check out up here these
1:07 were great but he bought them when we worked in a house and had a company of
1:10 about six people now we work in a big office and employ like 13 people I
1:16 actually have no idea does that make me a bad manager probably that's fair what
1:21 it doesn't do is ruin my passion for honestly just screwing around with
1:25 hardware and today's victim was well you guessed it the hard drive and what will
1:30 my dead hard drive sacrificial body be used for in the absence of its ability
1:35 to hold memories well we're going to tear the thing apart carefully actually
1:40 and then we're going to extract some neodymium magnets to make our own Parts
1:44 trays with well to be honest some tape
1:47 and any random object we can actually get our hands on you're going to need a
1:50 small torque screwdriver the size of which will be determined by the hard
1:55 drive that you have I recommend getting some form of Kit because just scrapping
2:00 four different hard drives I ran into two different sizes of screws I would
2:04 also recommend that you get a flathead screwdriver or a pry bar to pry the top
2:09 off and now that that's out of the way here we go unscrew all the visible
2:13 screws on the top and then try to find the sneaky decky screws they decided to
2:17 hind under stickers or the drive information sheet once you're done
2:21 removing all of these pry the top of the freaking hard drive off now that you're
2:26 on the inside you can start by removing the first magnetic plate you're going to
2:29 have to pry it off it's very unlikely that there will be any screws attached
2:33 to this next up you can move on to the actuator or the platters depending on
2:37 whichever's easiest for you this can be a little frustrating as there's tons of
2:41 little screws and different things overlapping each other but it won't take
2:45 all that long and once you're done removing all of that it's time to work
2:49 out the bottom magnet which should just be a couple screws and some prying away
2:54 from Freedom now for today's video we're going to be using the magnets so we're
2:59 definitely going to keep those but if you have a lot of hard drives especially
3:03 you should consider selling their individual components for scrap
3:06 especially the metals inside of the hard drive and the PCB that's on the bottom
3:10 of the drive they can all be sold not for a ton of money mind you but if you
3:15 have a lot of drives with a little bit of time you can turn a profit check out
3:18 boardsort.com if you're interested in that alas our magnets have been
3:23 retrieved and we're ready to start making our magnetic Parts trays the more
3:26 magnets you get the larger the surface area you can effectively use use as a
3:30 magnetics Parts tray also naturally the
3:33 creation of these parts trays will come down to your creativity but some of my
3:37 favorite ones that I made in the office were the stealth which is a hard drive
3:42 that is actually a magnetic part Str you just take all the guts out put the
3:45 magnets on the bottom of the lid tape them on and then screw everything back
3:49 together so it looks like a hard drive I know I'm kind of weird don't worry about
3:53 it another one was the more practical repurposed box which originally had a
3:57 space pen in it I just tap the magnets to the bottom of the outside of the box
4:01 this one has the added practicality of being able to be magnetically stuck to
4:05 other metals like a normal magnetic Parts tray and last but not least is
4:09 taking a piece of cardboard drawing out a grid with like a Sharpie or something
4:13 and then taping the magnets in a grid formation in order to create a magnetic
4:18 sorting pad sick is this remotely useful
4:22 at all I think so but what do I know you
4:25 tell me hit me up on Twitter Luke LFR and let me know if you've met made one
4:30 of your own tunnel bear is the easy to use VPN app for mobile and desktop that
4:34 lets you tunnel to up to 20 different countries allowing you to browse the
4:38 internet and use online services as if you're in one of those selected
4:42 countries they have apps for iOS Android PC and mac and they also have a Chrome
4:47 extension the apps are super easy to use which is the main reason why I suggest
4:51 tunnel bear you just pick a country in the app turn tunnel bear on and watch as
4:55 this truck and a bear tunnel you all the way to your new location when you pick a
5:00 country and turn tunnel bear on two things happen your connection gets encrypted with AES 256-bit encryption
5:07 and your public IP address gets switched so you show up as if you're in that
5:11 country which is kind of the main point tunnel bear handles all the mess in the
5:15 background and they also give you 500 megabytes of data for free so you can
5:19 try it out no credit card required and if you want to upgrade to an unlimited
5:22 data plan you can save 10% by going to Tunnel bear.com
5:26 but regardless if you like the video like it if you dislike the video dislike
5:30 it get subscribed if you haven't done that yet I like we've been around for a
5:35 while man just click the button it's not that hard if you want a shirt you can
5:39 get one at the link in the description below if you think that little not that hard comment was me being a dick you can
5:44 go watch our other channels like Tech Wiki and Channel Super Fun cuz those are
5:48 a little bit more interesting in terms of the educational or the fun side of
5:51 things this one is like mix I don't really know how that works use our
5:55 Amazon affiliate code to shop there check out the Forum cuz forum's awesome
6:00 that's what other the reason do you need
