aha the ocz mod extreme so this is a 700 wat power supply it's available in a
0:05
couple different capacities used to be a 400 watt version even but there are 500
0:09
WT 600 watt and 700 watt versions this is one of the most popular power
0:14
supplies out there right now so let's go through a quick uh quick rundown of this
0:18
particular unit first of all it is powerful 700 Watts excellent thank you
0:22
then it is ultra efficient so this is an 80 plus certified power supply with 135
0:27
mm fan active PFC and an easy mod cable management system we'll have a close
0:31
look at that when we open it up it includes a 3year ocz warranty which is
0:35
legendary and it also has NVIDIA SLI
0:38
stamp of approval on it so that pretty much covers everything they tell us on
0:41
the front of it first of all actually well there are a couple things on the back and I'll read those out while I'm
0:46
uh while I'm breaking all of the seals on this because it's quite well packed
0:49
in here and I'm going to have a oh ow that explains it I'm using the using the
0:54
blunt edge of my knife to to cut while I
0:57
uh have my finger on the sharp edge that could have turned out very very badly
1:01
but at least it would have been on video so it would have been very exciting okay
1:05
so the power consumption is less than a equal to one watt in off mode and in
1:09
standby mode so that has some kind of a little green leaf next to that sticker
1:13
so I guess that's relevant somehow and then there is also oh that's kind of
1:17
cool so it's tested at ultra high temperatur uh 40° Centigrade versus a
1:22
lot of other power supplies which are actually rated at unrealistically low
1:25
temperatures so that they can inflate the rated wattages okay so that's a
1:30
pretty good thing to know and then what else there was something else on the
1:33
back that I wanted to to tell you lot about before I go ahead and open this
1:37
what did they have multi GPU ready okay we already know that uh no that was
1:41
pretty much it okay so let's get this thing open and let's get kind of angled
1:46
down and zoomed in I have no cameraman on this fine day that's okay so the
1:51
first thing we will find is a user's manual which is in English Dutch espanol
1:55
France Italiano Netherlands okay a bunch
1:58
of stuff I really don't know to pronounce anymore and that tells you
2:02
just the basics installation and troubleshooting thank you all right then
2:06
next we will find the power supply there's not a whole lot in here in terms
2:10
of accessories I mean these are a very uh Great Value I can go ahead and I can
2:15
say that so you can't really expect the whole nine yards in terms of accessories
2:19
but here's the little box that holds all of the cables here is your power cable
2:24
this is a pretty wussy looking power cable but realistically it's all you'll
2:27
need for a 700 W power supply and a computer running off of it this I really
2:31
like it comes with a little nice little mesh bag this looks kind of like a pencil bag it includes your modular
2:36
cables and it also includes four screws for mounting the power supply thank you
2:40
for that let's have a look at the power supply itself and then we'll have a look
2:44
at the modular cables quite a nice looking unit actually right off the bat
2:48
here so you've got your mod extreme label on the side here it's 700 WTS you
2:54
got that that's that little green leaf sticker I was talking about before at so
2:58
here's all of your uh your testing stickers showing that it did pass all of
3:01
its testing if yours doesn't have these maybe uh let ocz know on the back you'll
3:05
find your fairly standard honeycomb Grill and then you've got a power switch
3:09
as well as a power plug input here we will find the um the rail breakdown for
3:15
this unit so this is a dual 12volt rail power supply and you've got 25 amps on
3:20
each rail they are capable of providing 552 watts of the total 700 Watts that
3:26
this power supply can provide there's your 80 plus logo as well as all of your
3:29
safety certifications on the front you will find
3:33
the modular interface as well as the cables that are included by default so
3:38
these two look like they're going to be for PCI Express while these two are
3:43
black so these are red PCI Express these black ones look like they're going to be
3:46
for Molex and SATA so let's see what's actually included on this power supply
3:50
ocz has gone with a fairly modular interface I've actually seen a lot of
3:54
modular power supplies that include like they include like a 24 pin an 8 Pin a
3:59
couple PCI Express Molex and SATA cables all hardwired to the power supply and
4:04
then they have like two modular plugs on them I think that's just kind of
4:08
ridiculous so here we go we've got a 24
4:11
pin power connector hardwired then also hardwired we have our 8 Pin power and
4:16
our four pin power so you'll either use this one or this one I uh I'm not a big
4:21
fan of that just because then you're stuck with cables that you might not
4:24
even be be well you pretty much won't be using unless you're powering like a an
4:29
EVGA board that requires both a four pin and an8 pin so that's okay in terms of
4:35
modular cables these don't look very long do they actually all of these
4:39
cables are pretty short on this particular unit that's not that long at
4:42
all I mean it should be fine as long as your power supply is mounted in the top
4:46
of your case or as long as you don't have to go around a lot of obstacles to
4:49
mount um or to get the cables up to your motherboard so why don't we get this
4:53
kind of zoomed back out oh I went the wrong way hold on bear with me here
4:57
sorry about that okay modular cables so here is your PCI Express 8 pin connector
5:02
so it plugs in or this is a six pin pardon me so this plugs into the power
5:05
supply that's eight pins but there are two empty ones see just like that so
5:10
that's a six pin connector and then the other one actually makes use of all
5:14
eight pins and you can see that it has a 6 plus two pin connector on the other
5:18
end all right then the other modular cables are they don't give you many
5:23
options with this one I like modular power supplies that include extra cables
5:27
so they'll include like three Molex and three SATA even though there's only four
5:30
modular plugs so if you have a very hard drive heavy build or a very other
5:34
accessory heavy build you can kind of go one way or the other but it doesn't
5:38
really defeat the purpose because it still allows you to just not
5:43
plug in the cables that you don't need even if they're only including exactly
5:47
what would be attached to the power supply anyway that was very long and
5:50
very rambly but that's okay so we've got two MOX cables Each of which has two
5:56
Molex connectors on it and one floppy connector these are again fairly short
6:00
but it should be fine like I said once again if you are using a fairly small
6:05
case and you have a top mounted power supply so you can see it's got about
6:08
that kind of length on it then the same length again we have two SATA cables and
6:12
Each of which has three SATA connectors so you can connect a total of six SATA
6:17
power supply SATA power supplies six SATA hard drives to this power supply
6:21
without any kind of adapters or anything else thank you for checking out my
