0:00 thank you to Logitech and Discord for sending us to PA East 2016 this year if
0:04 you want to see all of their different products and services check them out in the video description down below all
0:08 right guys we are not at a booth per se this is the byoc section packs in
0:13 Seattle packs in Boston packs in Texas packs in Australia all of them have like
0:18 a lan area there's the Lan free play section there's the console free play
0:22 section and there's the byc section which stands for bring your own computer
0:26 it's actually really cool I've been doing it for a little while now with some of my friends and Pax Seattle this
0:31 is the first time I have done PAX East and what we're going to check out is the
0:34 top three modded computers of the byoc section and they're pretty sick we're
0:39 going to start off with a system that is close to my heart I love fish tank
0:42 systems my like claim to fame in terms of building computers was in a fish tank
0:46 system because I feel that with oil this one is done in a different way but
0:50 equally as cool in my opinion so this system was built by polish you can see
0:54 his name in the front bottom right hand corner and is not filled with oil is not
0:58 actually filled with any liquid at all EX except for the little smaller inner
1:02 tank area which houses his fish which is named Alpha the beta which is like super
1:08 great I absolutely love that in terms of Hardware he has the Intel Core 2 Duo
1:12 anniversary edition a 960 which is reference blower cooled so that it can
1:16 get the air out of the fish tank so it doesn't just fish around on the inside
1:20 pun intended he's got fish rocks all over the place which actually helps him
1:24 hide his cables which is super smart I wish I did that with my rig it's a
1:28 really good idea also on the bottom left hand side under the rock behind the
1:32 Polish badge is a hard drive and below
1:35 that is where he hides his SSD amongst the rocks on the bottom in and outside
1:39 of the fish containing area he has little fake fish plants and the whole
1:43 thing just looks aesthetically awesome in terms of lighting he has two cathode
1:47 lights in the top which are actually hidden behind the black plastic band
1:51 among the outside which is a really cool way to do that and it's kind of hidden
1:55 under the top of the lid as well all of the I/O goes out of the top which is
1:59 probably prob what you would expect from a fish tank build and I just absolutely
2:03 love it easily one of my favorite mods I've ever seen and then you have how
2:07 it's put together so for my fish tank build which you can see up here or for
2:11 the one that we did for work way later on which you can also see up here we
2:15 used like uh laser cut plexiglass panels
2:18 what he did was actually a much more effective way in my opinion to be
2:22 completely honest he just Velcro on one of those kind of Bitcoin mining
2:26 motherboard trays that people were building for quite a while there that I
2:30 think you can get from highs speeed PC I don't know where he got his and then
2:33 yeah he just velcroed it on in terms of his motherboard to keep it in place he used a little angle bracket on the
2:37 bottom and then another little bit of Velcro on the top just to hold it in
2:41 smart effective cheap next up we actually have two computers as kind of
2:45 one feature that I'm going to cover here these were both built by a guy whose tag
2:49 is IM root or at IM root he had that
2:53 name before the Guardians of the Galaxy movie Just so you know the first one
2:56 we're going to cover is the one that looks like a red iMac this one was built
3:00 for his son it has an I3 in it a 750 Ti
3:04 an SSD and a 500 GB hard drive what's
3:07 really cool about both of these rigs is how they look very much like old IMAX
3:12 even including the fact that their front loading optical drive Bays still work
3:17 it's not actually the original Mac one it's an aftermarket optical drive bay
3:21 but it still works and it looks completely authentic which is super cool
3:25 he did it in a stack formation so there's a power supply on the bottom and
3:28 then a motherboard above that which is held up by some ready rod and then
3:32 everything just kind of sits there quite nicely in the back of the iMac in the
3:36 front he has LCD panels that he bought on eBay so these were bare LCD 1080p
3:41 panels that are 13.3 in he then used a
3:44 little custom PCB that he also bought on eBay which was shipped from China which
3:48 converts HDMI to lvds it's a converter
3:52 that costs $35 it takes 12vt in and then
3:56 is wired directly into the PSU for the 12vt rail and then just yeah you plug in
4:01 LCD lvds on one end take HDMI o to the
4:05 other end and you're good to go in order to hold the screens in place he created
4:08 what looks like a plexiglass sandwich so he has clear plexiglass on the front and
4:13 then colored plexiglass on the back behind the panel which matches the color
4:17 of the iMac so the red one has red the purple one has purple I think this is
4:20 super cool I love that he did it this year for his son and daughter in the
4:24 past he's done builds for himself and like a briefcase and one of them was in
4:27 like a super old radio and one of them was was in a long board super cool I
4:31 love guys that do rigs every year what he does because that sounds very
4:35 expensive is he just reuses the internal hardware and buil a custom case around
4:40 it very good idea next up is the Minecraft creeper build made by 8bit
4:44 Builder or also known as thorcon t h o r KO n and check out his YouTube channel
4:49 which is youtube.com/ thorcon this build
4:52 is sick I'm going to get to him in a moment but the hardware in it is an I3
4:56 4170 that's an azrock h97m ITX
4:59 motherboard a Samsung 750 series SSD as
5:02 far as I can tell and an sfx power supply the button on the side is a TNT
5:07 block which is sick all of these little individual blocks are actual small
5:12 individual blocks not just carved out of one piece of wood which is actually
5:15 pretty fantastic and some of them are translucent meaning that you can kind of
5:19 see some light coming through them so we have some white and some green ones that
5:23 have illumination all throughout the case I guess we can call it for now or
5:27 the creeper also up through the middle is where a lot of the air flow comes
5:30 from so there's fans up here that pull air down from the bottom there's a fan
5:34 that pushes air out the back and there's another big fan that can keeps it going
5:38 up through the top of the computer so this thing has no lack of air flow at
5:41 all how do you go about building these you told me you built a bunch in the past too I just use uh 2,000 I use I use
5:48 a 1in cubes about they're all wooden usually 2 to 3,000 depending on the case
5:52 and I usually actually plan it out I build it out in Minecraft actually and
5:56 then um I take a time lapse of building the whole thing up and then and so I
6:00 usually make a video of just building the whole thing from nothing to everything painting everything so so
6:04 like architectural planning is all done in Minecraft yeah you know a lot of
6:07 people are like oh you know you could get in some you know heavier editing
6:10 programs to do stuff that's like ah you know I started with Minecraft it gets
6:15 the job done I'm not doing anything crazy it it works pretty good you know some red lines for when I'm running the
6:19 electric you know where the electric goes everything and most of the computer
6:22 parts are all like almost inches anyway so it's pretty perfect it works pretty
6:25 good so what's your what's your favorite one of these that you've built um man my
6:30 favorite actually I think is the Airship uh I built a final fantasy Airship from
6:33 uh Final Fantasy 2 has spinning propellers uh and that's that's probably
6:38 that's my favorite one it's that one's pretty sweet that's sick and can people
6:41 check out that build on your YouTube channel yeah that's definitely that one's on my YouTube channel they're all
6:45 on my YouTube channel this one's not up yet but it'll be up very soon if someone
6:48 wanted to get into doing something like this what would you how would you recommend they start I'm actually for
6:52 this one I actually have I've made a video I'm making a video series I
6:56 recorded everything about each step of building this so I'm actually a little
6:59 video series going on how to actually make one of these on your own and it's
7:03 actually very simple you don't need any you just need wood glue and cubes and
7:06 very basic tools you know power tools really I built I built my first one in
7:09 an efficiency apartment no problem that's awesome and how do you go about
7:13 Distributing lighting all throughout the case for all the individual like translucent panels all right so these
7:18 all all these plastic cubes um I probably have about there's probably
7:22 about 50 on here I I have about a 12in cathod tube on each leg one in the body
7:27 and then one in the head uh usually I like to have some kind of lighting
7:31 effect because all computer mods have some kind of lighting going on so for
7:34 this one I decided to go with one inch cubes with uh some Frost fat to get the
7:38 light spread out but they're about 2 in L they're 2in long cubes so when the
7:42 lights going through the inside it hits the side of the cube and it just spres right down through the side and that's
7:48 about it that's awesome all right guys thanks for watching if you want to see
7:51 all the rest of our PX e 2016 content be sure to subscribe to line techtips also
