1:55 late and I was supposed to be helping my mom cook and I like kept on dragging

1:59 back to like watch to TV I was like this is really interesting this is actually a

2:02 pretty good movie fantastic mov I have I have to you know what else is supposed

2:06 to be really good is Guardians of the Galaxy I haven't seen it yet but I've

2:09 heard glowing reviews from like everybody have not seen it up to this

2:13 expect you probably would have seen it yeah just bring bring like absolute

2:18 newborn into the theater I did manage to see how to train your dragon too before

2:22 the the new baby come we actually didn't take my son what why it was Date Night

2:30 he got wrecked well that and we could only find a 3D showing and he's two I 3D

2:36 showing yeah know I wouldn't do that yeah it was just one of those things and I was like I've heard too much crap

8:42 already weren't really that different but that's pretty close but it's pretty

8:51 least okay so it's got a 4.7 in display it's got a metal housing it's got their

8:56 exos octacore processor so four core

8:59 cores at 1.8 four cores at 1.3 it has 2

9:03 gigs of RAM 32 gigs of internal storage it supports LTE Advanced which is nice

9:09 but it's got a fingerprint sensor speaking of yeah really yeah 12

9:14 megapixel rear camera metal building materials and it

9:18 is the rumored street price for off

9:25 $800 now I left out a couple of key specs there that 4. 7 in screen is a

9:30 1280x 720 screen and I'll be the first

9:34 like I've talked about this on the show before I don't think we need Quad HD

9:39 2560 x445 in screens I think it's unnecessary I think it adds to cost

9:44 power consumption and reduces battery life and otherwise just generally

9:48 doesn't really have any benefit but you got to at least try and

9:54 there's something to say for 1080 over 720 on a phone yes yes 1080 is

10:00 noticeable whereas you know 1440 maybe

10:03 not that noticeable 720p is definitely lower it also only has an 1860 milliamp

10:10 battery yeah I was I I noticed you skipped over that and I was like I know

10:14 why cuz I'm about to lower the hate

10:18 boom and no micro SD expansion I mean

10:22 we're talking a flagship phone when pretty much everyone else has reversed

10:27 on the whole yes we're not going to have micr SD because people should use up

10:31 their entire internal storage for their music libraries that never made any

10:36 sense super dumb super dumb I mean I don't I I don't necessarily agree that

10:41 phone makers need to allow people to install apps on an external SD card no

10:47 and there are good reasons for that SD cards are not reliable they're not fast

10:52 so fine I get it have the experience or whatever that's fine but let me put my

10:56 music and pictures on it I don't want to be using up my stud stupid 16 gigs of

11:00 internal stage that's I ever used it for anyways exactly I just used a direct

11:03 storage device play in the computer put freaking music what songs whatever on it

11:07 take it out put in the phone so it's freaking awesome so this doesn't have

11:10 that and just otherwise is not very

11:15 impressive I mean okay it's it's less than 7 mm thick and excuse me thin oh I

12:50 this phone is targeted towards people who were never going to care about the

13:07 fast phone it's still got the

13:10 horses and it it I personally think it looks better than that yeah never liked

13:16 the Samsung button on the bottom and it always has that wobbling issue well

13:19 maybe this one doesn't maybe let's not be too down they've all had it so far

13:24 but yeah you're right it might not I don't know it comes in five colors black

13:27 white gold silver and blue I'm actually trying to get HTC to send me a pink 1 M8

13:32 really oh I like super stoked on if I could get my

13:37 hands on one of those um anyway so the only pricing we actually have is $599 so

13:43 it's possible this will land at $5.99 that happens a lot where there's no

13:49 currency conversion between territories I always feel bad for other places when

13:53 that happens well remember they also get paid in that currency so like a

13:58 competitive minimum wage is not going to be $10 an hour here and 672 an hour

14:04 whatever but it isn't typically I don't know so I have no argument here in a

14:09 country with a similar economy it'll be similarly equivalent in terms of the

14:13 actual number on the end right um sometimes not

14:18 always okay so I don't think that works

14:22 for people in bad economies cuz when you're making like when when a phone

14:25 cost like millions of what that's what I mean like in in similar devel

21:03 to spend a lot of time on it but Microsoft and Sony caught using PCS to

21:07 Showcase games at gamescon not new but a

21:11 continued Trend which is still worth talking about so Microsoft decided as

21:14 usual to camouflage a number of PCS in order to Showcase one or even more of

21:19 its titles so there was a game Crash and apparently this was running on a GeForce

21:24 PC because we see a GeForce experience update down here and then of course

21:29 there's an Xbox console that is obviously not doing anything I mean the

21:33 thing about this is guys you got to understand this makes sense because devs

21:36 I mean what you you you expect to walk

21:39 into a game studio and like everyone has like monitors on their desk and like

21:44 Xboxes next no the real work gets done

21:48 on a PC so the real testing is going to

21:52 get done on a PC you're not going to you're not going to do like a a build

21:57 version of the game put it on a disc and

22:00 like put it in a console every time you want to test something that's not how

22:03 that works so yes especially in development

22:08 games are going to be showcased on PCS yeah because they're just better I think

22:14 like they they'll have consoles there CU obviously going to have to test it on the console but like the mass majority

22:18 of the development like all their test builds like you were talking about will

22:22 be on a PC yeah I'm not saying they're not going to have uh I'm not saying

22:25 they're not going to have consoles in fact uh talking to uh Joel from metek uh

22:30 the the channelizer guys with the Spectrum analysis thing they were

22:34 telling me that one of the guys that they've worked with in the past was a

22:37 major game development Studio that had a big problem because they had so many

22:42 Xboxes that even though the wireless controller uh Works kind of like

22:47 Bluetooth where it jumps channels all the time to avoid interfering with

22:50 anything they had so many of them that it just created Broadband interference

22:54 in 2.4 GHz so nothing else could function

22:58 oh that's awesome just jumps but lands

23:01 on them on each other all the time it's horrible frog with multiple thousands of

23:06 people so ay and the blind Forest is the

23:10 only game from Microsoft that was proven to be running on PC it is speculated

23:14 that others were running on PC and then Sony was also caught showing Need for

23:18 Speed on PC hon the amount of years that I've been at packs there's countless

23:21 amounts of time where you get a peakin in a cabinet and you can see a console

23:25 under it I mean a a PC under it countless amounts of time there's even

23:29 been times where people just straight up have like a grill on the side of their

23:33 their box thing that's under the TV and you can look through the no and you can

23:38 look through the grill and see a computer and it's like K you're not even

23:42 hiding it at all so like yeah I don't know all right

23:47 speaking of uh I don't know what to call

23:50 this Ubisoft pledges to take PC more

23:55 seriously Ubisoft said today that it is seeking to take Windows PC gaming way

23:59 more seriously as the platform continues to make gains against Rivals um you know

24:05 I think as PC Gamers that headline alone

24:09 is enough to kind of give me pause it's like so you're only doing this because

24:13 there's a lot of us you're only doing

24:16 this because in spite of everything that

24:19 the entire gaming AAA gaming industry

24:22 has done to alienate us it's still

24:26 growing so I guess there's nothing can do so at the last possible second as the

24:31 growth continues to be uncontrolled and amazing you're like oh okay um yeah

24:38 guess we were on board all along guess we'll care about you cuz you have money I used to like them so basically

24:44 they're saying they focus more on the needs of PC Gamers they're going to have

24:47 simplified DRM activation greater commitment to multiplatform releases

24:51 which is a good thing and I am happy to see if it happens if it happens

24:55 seriously doubt it and the thing about a multiplatform release is that we expect

24:59 to actually get a proper release not one

25:02 that gets patched 3 weeks later Allah Watch Dogs and had a bunch of hidden

25:06 content in it that you just like I don't even that there wasn't

25:10 even a DLC plan it just was turned off

25:14 turned off I mean that's a whole other thing like hey pay another 10 bucks for

25:18 like the ultra extreme amazing High Fidelity version you know I think a lot

25:21 of people would actually go for that they've uh there was a post I don't

25:25 remember by who at all I think it was someone from bung saying that like if it

25:31 it's so aggressive right now with DLC and microtransactions that we could probably sell resolutions to

25:35 you and it's like oh I didn't say it was

25:39 good to be clear I said that it they could probably get away with it

25:43 um what are we talking about anyway so blah blah blah they'll focus more on the

25:47 needs of PC Gamers greater commitment to multiplatform releases we're doing our

25:51 best to bring our games to PC at the same time as the console version so

25:54 Assassin's Creed unity and Far Cry 4 will come to the PC

25:59 simultaneously not the the two games simultaneously but with the cons

26:03 simultaneously yeah I'm most worried about the thing actually working or being optimized properly I I've said in

26:08 the past when there's there's these like massive ridiculous um Assassin's Creed

26:13 delays for PC I'm like it's fine if it works and then it like rarely really

26:18 does and it's always like this craptastic Port but whatever all right

26:21 so Ubisoft revenues from PC in spite of

26:25 you know all the scrummy stuff have gone from 11 % of their total revenue to 15%

26:30 so on the one hand at 11% of their total

26:33 company Revenue I guess I can understand why they didn't give any cares yeah but

26:37 their revenue is very split if you think about it and the thing about that too is

26:42 well of course it was going to be 11% if you don't give anyone the option to buy

26:46 the bloody game on the

26:49 platform that happens a lot of times it's extremely delayed like some of the

26:53 Assassin's Creed delays have been I think like 6 months long not super

26:57 surprising if they have happened to have a console and happened to buy it for that because they wanted to play it

27:01 sometime near its release at all um another thing is they're divied up into

27:06 web mobile I believe um even some phone

27:10 stuff all consoles including Wii and Wii U PC last gen consoles they're

27:15 everywhere right so even 11% is probably still not too

27:20 bad yeah all right so of course uh big

27:24 news this week was uh the passing of

27:28 beloved actor comedian Robin Williams um

27:31 wow fans given that he was such an avid gamer in his life have asked for a wow

27:35 tribute it wouldn't be the first time that Blizzard's done an NPC as a tribute

27:40 to um you know a person or some kind of

27:43 event so not a new thing at all and

27:47 basically the only news we have right now is that blizzard is indeed listening

27:52 and they did send out a tweet if I could just find the Tweet y blizzard says

27:58 thanks to Robin Williams and we'll see you in game so that's that's really nice

28:04 I mean I just you know I I hope that

28:07 it's not so soon that it's just kind of piling on because the thing that I think

28:12 a lot of people don't really think about is how the family might react to an

28:16 in-game representation I mean as long as they're okay with it then that's well

28:21 this is this is slightly jumping but did you did you hear about how people were

28:24 treating Zelda uh no people were treating her

28:28 incredibly poorly and like attacking her for not having enough pictures of her

28:31 dad and all this kind of stuff on Twitter so she fairly publicly left

28:35 Twitter she's like I'm installing uninstalling it from everything and I'm

28:39 kind of gone for now and then Twitter's like yeah we're going to work on our

28:43 harassment policies because it was like pretty bad I can't believe people to be

31:15 we're talking like I mean I've seen module prices in in my time fall down as

31:31 that price yeah 40 cents makes a difference so at lower prices it it

31:35 tends to really matter and then very expensive heat spreaders will still cost

31:39 money things like Dominator Platinum heat spreaders those are expensive yeah

31:46 panel and all the metal and all that kind of stuff so it's kind of a big deal

34:47 lot of bragging lately about their 14 nanometer process which they'll be using

34:51 to manufacture these upcoming Broadwell y chips and uh the impressive gains in

34:57 performance as well as power consumption that they've made over the last few

35:00 years so core M will be a 14 NM chip

35:03 based on Broadwell Intel claims it twice as fast as core models that were

35:07 introduced in 2010 seven times better graphics performance and with power

35:12 consumption that is four times smaller so that means you could achieve double

35:16 the battery life with a battery that's half the capacity that's pretty Beast

35:20 which is some pretty simple math but impressive nonetheless um so yeah cool

35:25 we're going to see a whole new class of devices I mean imagine this this was

35:29 something someone tweeted at me this week was what if you could build a

35:32 shield portable that's actually just a Windows PC like if we could get

35:37 something that small that has a built-in h264 decoder so you could just run Steam

35:42 in home streaming that would be pretty sick

35:45 actually and do a lot of other stuff you have a browser or you could have

35:49 whatever right so you can even view if you want to be like a super super

35:53 business loser dude you could like view PowerPoints you can do whatever I view

35:59 PowerPoints sometimes PowerPoints have useful information in them I make power

36:45 something like that improve stability by default it will disable this feature um

36:50 unfortunately so that stands for transactional synchronization extensions

36:55 let's just ignore that e there yeah yeah don't worry too much about the E TSX

36:59 sounds much cooler as long as we don't call it TSA then yeah then no one will

37:04 hate it it's not good I mean it's one of those things where for most users it's

37:08 probably not that big of a deal but this was going to be really interesting in

37:13 terms of multicore processor performance

37:16 over the next little while and unfortunately with the upcoming sort of

37:21 new Haswell whatever we're going to

37:24 whatever it's ND so with the upcoming potential new platform form that could

37:28 be coming sometime in the future ever

37:31 well okay we all know it's coming eventually so I haven't said anything that's not it's not too bad actually

37:36 yeah so we all know it's coming so anyway so it won't be there for that and

37:39 even the first Broadwell y those super low power processors um will not have it

37:45 fixed yet but Intel is of course working on it so there you go uh to be clear

37:55 saying it's good it's super suck that a feature that has had started to gain

38:01 traction I mean that's the thing is Intel or AMD or NVIDIA or whoever is

38:05 going to release a feature with a product like let's say directx10

38:14 get an install base of people who can support that feature and then software

38:19 developers are going to get on board and create software that leverages it so

38:23 this sets TSX back a generation and a

38:27 half or so which is a bummer it is but

38:31 they kind of need to go through that process because no matter how much debugging you do once you get a mass

38:35 install base that's when you really see how stable your stuff is yeah but mostly

38:40 Intel doesn't have this issue mostly so there you go um all right so

43:24 pay the microtransaction yeah but lots of games are necessarily hard if if

43:27 anything that would be a return to difficulty for PC gaming and a very

43:34 necessarily because what if it's like n impossible what if they're like oh yeah the best sword in the game is infinite

43:38 money essentially or you can buy it for two

43:42 bucks why do you need that item because

43:46 it's the best in the game you're obviously going to desire it I don't but sure uh but like it's a

43:52 lot of a lot of games are about like collecting and make yourself making yourself badass if you really think

43:56 about you can beat all of Assassin's Creed with the beginner swords if you

43:59 really wanted to but you want to deck yourself out with like the pistol swords

44:03 and all those super badass swords that you get throughout the game one thing

44:07 about um it being in Assassin's Creed that I

44:13 don't necessarily mind and before people destroy me on this um I'm still totally

44:17 against it but the idea the fact that it's Assassin's Creed makes it kind of

44:21 hilarious because you can buy like the

44:24 best sword from the store really early

44:27 on especially if you don't just straight plow through the main quest if you like

44:32 go and do some other things you can rack up the money to buy the best sword from the store really quickly so I don't know

44:39 I've never really seen it as a problem like I have a buddy who in every game he

44:42 ever plays he doesn't start the main quest right away he kind of roams around

44:46 and tries to experience the game and he was able to buy the best sword from the

44:49 store before he even like really started

44:52 the main quest once you have free roam of course you have to unlock free roam

44:56 first by going through the main quest for a while but still like I don't know

45:00 items money has never really been that hard to acquire in Assassin's Creed and

45:05 you've also you've always seemed to have insane amounts of it even in what was it

45:10 Brotherhood or um Revelations where like

45:14 you have to buy all those shops everywhere and it's kind of this insane little game you always have abundant

45:20 amounts of money and buying items was never really a problem so we're going to have to tone down our Assassin's Creed

45:24 discussion apparently no one cares about Assassin's Creed wasn't going to play it

45:28 and don't care says 40% of our

45:34 audience and then so most people don't

45:37 care between wasn't going to play it and

45:40 don't care and was going to play it still going to play it um that's about

45:46 70% and then another 25% of you or so

45:50 this B is like Mega weren't going to play it and but you're mad anyway but

45:54 they didn't lose any money so air 8% of

45:57 you were planning to play Assassin's Creed unity and are not going to play it

46:02 now because there are microtransactions in it so basically if Ubisoft manages to

46:08 increase their average sell price at the game by even 10% and that's down to 7%

46:14 Now by even 10% then they missed out on nothing

46:19 because you guys didn't play that might be pretty hard if you

46:23 think about it if you think about how much money people spend on hats I a 10%

46:27 increase in their yeah but there isn't like near infinite amount of items like

46:31 there is with Hats or maybe there will be or maybe there will be lots of

46:34 different stuff I don't know we'll see yeah you only need you know a few people

46:39 to you know buy some crazy ship for if

46:43 you spend what $6 if if if you spend $6 in terms of

46:48 buying stuff with microtransactions you need 10 people for each replacement

46:51 person mhm it's a fair amount that's a lot of microtransactions yeah you have

46:55 to average $6 per person but then remember there's always the crazy guys

47:00 that spend 100 200 bucks on like the best ship and the best I know just what

47:04 I'm saying was this wasn't necessarily possible there's been microtransactions in Assassin's Creed games like that's

47:09 that's another thing that I don't think people necessarily realize with this like in the previous Assassin's Creed

47:12 game you could unlock the like uh the

47:16 the quest finder thing or whatever which showed every single possible Quest point

47:21 on the map right so you can just go to

47:24 it and like every single Quest point every single rare fishing point every

47:28 single treasure point every single whatever it would show it all on the map

47:31 like all this kind of stuff has existed before maybe just not in this form um so

47:36 I don't know but it wouldn't have been possible to spend 200 bucks before maybe

47:40 it is now I don't know especially because it's FastTrack for items I could

47:45 see it being a lot because if you FASTT tracked every item and if they made

47:50 first somehow if they made it like a sequence of items instead of just being able to buy it directly from the store

48:32 that there's a threshold for both like if your frame rate is 23 frames per

48:42 on 24 frames per second because that's not good enough for games so if your

48:46 frame rate is 24 frames per second and you're running at a resolution of 4K I

48:52 would say yes you need to tone down your resolution you need to get that frame

48:55 rate up to minimum and like hopefully a

48:59 little higher if your frame rate is 45

49:03 and you're running at 792p then you need to amp up that

49:08 resolution maybe settle in at 40 frames per second or something like that like it's a it's a balancing game and it's

49:13 going to depend on the style of game as well for a twitch combat type game yeah

49:19 frame rate is going to be extremely extremely important whereas for a more

49:23 cinematic or exploration Style game like Skyrim

49:27 um you are going to want I know a lot of

49:30 people in Skyrim that have massively sacrificed frame rate to make their game

49:35 look ridiculously amazing because you can kind of do that with mods especially

49:39 if you run Nexus instead of just Workshop so I don't remember where I was

49:42 going with this right okay so another quote from the uh from the interview is

49:45 reaching parity with our partners has been important in the end I don't want

49:50 it to be about a number because 1080p isn't some mythical perfect resolution

49:54 and frame rate to me is signic gepl resolution and mix of righty and

50:01 freed there certain genres like racing GES hitting 1080p 60fps is important and

50:07 expected but there are other genres where I'd rather use the Cycles to put more effects on screen or better

60:20 that product exists doesn't mean that NVIDIA ever expects people to spend

60:24 $6,000 on the graphics card be super amazing at their whole marketing thing

60:28 and they might uh say it's a gaming card but it's not and and the reality of it

60:33 is if you made the product and someone was bananas enough to buy it would you

60:39 not provide an option for them I'd be down with that I don't know whatever I

60:43 mean NVIDIA within their own product lineup provides better values yes you

60:49 could buy you could pick up better you could pick up three GTX

60:54 780 uh 6 gig cards that would be the extreme gaming

61:00 option of choice you know if you absolutely had to have the most bananas

61:04 thing and that would cost you just over that would cost you around $1,700 $1,800

61:10 or so less than the price of one Titan Z

61:14 and would absolutely demolish at least one in terms of

61:19 performance it would probably beat two given how much lower a Titan Z is
