0:00 - This mouse battery can last 400 hours.
0:03 Do you know what you can do in 400 hours? You can walk around Manhattan, the entire Island,
0:08 more than 16 times. That's insane, if you were running at 3.5 miles an hour
0:13 for that entire 400 hours, you could eat 369 junior chickens
0:18 and come out calorie neutral. That's how long 400 hours is.
0:23 SteelSeries sponsored us to unbox the SteelSeries Rival 3 Wireless,
0:28 which is the wireless uptake to their very successful Rival 3 mouse.
0:32 I actually don't have that much experience with SteelSeries mice.
0:35 I know that there's lots of pro gamers that use the Rival 310, like
0:39 secretly in renewals on Chaos for Rainbow Six
0:44 and they love it. And I've heard only good things about these mice.
0:47 So inside the box, it's pretty standard.
0:50 It's just a little cardboard holder, you get the mouse. And I love that.
0:54 That's why they can offer this mouse at 49.99. That's an insane price for a good gaming mouse.
1:00 It's got less than a millisecond delay, 1,000 Hertz polling rate,
1:04 all the stuff you need from a gaming mouse. It's got the TrueMove Air Sensor,
1:08 which is a variant on a PixArt 3369, I believe.
1:11 So it's considered a flawless sensor, so you'll never have any problems.
1:14 Oh, there's already batteries. As you can see, it's a pretty small mouse.
1:17 I'd say it's comparable to like a 305,
1:21 kind of a geo G-pro shape more than anything. You pull off this back plate,
1:26 you get your two battery slots. This one can operate off, two triple A's or one.
1:32 To get the 400 hours you need both. And they say that it's less than half with just one.
1:37 But I'm concerned about weight. So I'm gonna operate it today with just one battery.
1:41 Perfect, inside is the wireless dongle receiver
1:45 for the proprietary Quantum 2.0 technology.
1:48 That means that this mouse has 2.4 gigahertz technology
1:52 so that it's basically the same as wired mouse. It's awesome, no delay.
1:56 But it also has Bluetooth 5.0. So if you're traveling and you don't wanna bring the dongle,
2:00 just connect it to any Bluetooth compliant device, you're good to go.
2:04 So I really like that versatility, I think that's really nice. Sometimes mice that are ambidextrous don't really suit me.
2:09 I find my palm just doesn't have a place to go. But these outward curves actually, I find very comfortable.
2:16 I like to kinda have like a sorta palm sort of clog grip.
2:20 So this works for me. I actually like this better than I thought I would.
2:23 These buttons feel good. They're rated for 60 million clicks, which is really high.
2:27 Often mice are rated for 20 million, so. They have little indentations on the buttons
2:32 to kinda have your finger set in, but it never feels too much.
2:36 Kind of can move around the mouse pretty easily. The buttons feel nice.
2:40 The texture feels pretty good. If I have anything bad to say about these buttons,
2:45 the sideburns are just a little bit small but that's just a preference thing. I like big chunky buttons for my big chunky thumb.
2:52 These are, they're not too bad. You can, tell which one you're pressing.
2:57 You can hit both at the same time if you need to. But I like the top buttons a little bit more.
3:01 They have more play than on other mice I've used but
3:05 nothing that would get in the way of getting your shots off.
3:09 There's the little DPI indicator, there's the mouse wheel buttons, side buttons.
3:14 This pleasant, comfortable shape that often doesn't work for me,
3:17 but this one's actually doing pretty good. On the bottom is the glide pads.
3:21 They're fairly big, doing their job. And then there's the switch.
3:24 So you have your Bluetooth off and your 2.5 gigahertz. We're gonna be gaming.
3:27 So we're going right to 2.4 gigahertz. For the 400 rated hours, you need both batteries.
3:32 And you also need to turn on the power saving mode. So that means that
3:36 your polling rate goes from a thousand to 125. That's not great for gaming,
3:40 but for everything else, for your work, for most games that aren't kind of reflex, that's fine.
3:45 And 400 hours is pretty insane for a AAA battery.
3:50 So now that the mouse is plugged in, you can see that there's the RGB on the scroll wheel.
3:55 I think that's a smart choice for keeping the battery life good.
3:58 You can have RGB everywhere, but that's obviously gonna eat away at your battery life.
4:01 So let's see how much it weighs. So according to them, just the mouse is 84 grams, with a battery 95,
4:07 and with two batteries, 101. But we're gonna test that for ourselves.
4:12 Let's go zero batteries first, 82.
4:16 It's lighter than they said. I'm into it, I'm into it.
4:19 - [Jono] Dongle's not in there. - You don't want the dongle when you're operating it.
4:25 92, why would they wait with the dongle? Don't they wanna make it seem
4:28 the lightest it could possibly to be? - [Jono] They wanna be honest.
4:32 - And then 102. So, that's a pretty light wireless gaming mouse.
4:38 At this price point, that's pretty untouchable 'cause even a 305,
4:41 is more expensive than this. And so if it performs well,
4:45 if I have no issues with it, I like the shape. Good sensor, good buttons.
4:49 Let's take a look at what this mouse looks like inside of the SteelSeries engine software.
4:54 Wow, there is so many more settings than I expected.
4:57 This is awesome. Man, this is like a tinker's dream.
5:02 Very impressed. You can customize all the buttons, very nice.
5:06 You can turn on Bluetooth mode if you want.
5:09 You have your different profiles. You can save up to five profiles on the mice.
5:12 You can switch between computers and have that saved, which is just a lifesaver sometimes.
5:17 You can adjust in increments of 100 DPI.
5:20 You have a sleep timer. I found it really aggressive.
5:24 So I'm gonna raise it a little bit. You can turn on high efficiency mode,
5:27 which would lower the polling rate and
5:30 give you that 400 hours of battery life. But, I'm a gamer. I want to live life hard.
5:35 Live, and die hard. So you have your polling rates.
5:39 I'm gonna keep it at a thousand. You can change your acceleration and deceleration but,
5:44 if you're a true gamer, you turn all that off. You want that raw input.
5:48 Feels smooth, feels like a modern mouse.
5:52 I like the feel of it.
5:59 Yeah, this feels pretty good. When I lift and slide,
6:03 it doesn't feel like I'm having any issues.
6:06 It's like one of those mice you just put it in your hand and you're like, "Yeah, that feels good." And then you start going and it goes.
6:11 I'm a pretty pleased with the feeling of this.
6:15 Huh, so far I'm getting a pretty good game feel for this.
6:20 Snapping onto heads, I'm not hating this at all.
6:23 Overall, I really like this mouse, it feels good in the hand,
6:27 I like the buttons. It moves the way I want. The sensor's good.
6:31 If the price is extremely right, if I was making a roundup of mice,
6:36 this would definitely be a contender for a great value proposition.
6:41 And if you need a big mouse, you have huge hands, this might not be the right fit for you.
6:45 But if you want a smaller mouse, something that's portable that you can take with you for work for gaming,
6:51 has smart design, pretty darn light, this is a really good mouse.
6:55 I would definitely recommend it. So thanks to SteelSeries for sponsoring this ShortCircuit.
7:00 You can check out this mouse at the link below, or check out any of the other Short Circuits
7:05 that I've covered mice on,
7:08 and goodbye. - [Jono] Bye bye, beard. - Oh, I don't have a beard.
7:12 I forgot about that. Yeah, I shaved it this weekend. Here's the thing, I know that at some point
7:17 Linus is gonna have to shave it. And if I shaved it after Linus,
7:20 people will be like, "you're just copying him." So getting ahead of the curve.
