0:03 all right guys I think we're finally
0:06 live so I know I know you're tired of my
0:11 crap and I always have some kind of an excuse for why the show couldn't
0:17 possibly have been on time today but uh
0:20 no really today today was a truly truly
0:24 exceptional truly outof theordinary situation so number one uh we actually
0:30 had to move um I didn't realize until
0:33 okay so this was the thing I didn't realize this wasn't unavoidable but I
0:37 didn't realize until um it was basically time to like
0:43 get ready for w show that all of the W show stuff had to be moved out of that
0:48 orange room that I was broadcasting from before because we've had Esther so my
0:53 sister-in-law you might remember her as NC Esther so we've had Esther helping us
0:59 out with decorating sort of well Furnishing Furnishing the office and she
1:03 had us move all the WoW stuff out of that room in order for her to start
1:08 Furnishing it so um everything was scattered all over the
1:14 place I had to get all that going and I'm trying to talk while
1:20 I type the URL where people are supposed to tune in so that I can put the
1:25 announcement up on YouTube there we go I've got that done so then thing number
1:28 two that happened today today which was pretty darn frustrating was I got
1:34 everything all set up here and then we're like oh crap where's the
1:37 microphone oh no where's the capture card okay so John borrowed the capture
1:42 card because we've got an overclocking guide for Skylake coming that is going
1:47 to be pretty freaking cool and exciting and all that but he needed a capture
1:51 card so I didn't have my capture card and then this microphone which I've been
1:55 using for Wow lately was actually relocated to the inventory that my wife
2:00 has been working on getting all set up so we didn't have the microphone so I
2:04 was like oh no okay okay so then we got
2:08 all those things going and I was like all right we're ready to rock here and I
2:12 start getting things set up I go I go to like open up xplit I'm like what it's
2:17 and it says your that xplit account cannot be found so I'm like oh well oh
2:22 shoot well my account is weird because twitch actually set me up with an
2:27 account uh I I had I have not paid for xplit until today so originally when I
2:32 started streaming wow on Twitch twitch set me up with an xsplit account
2:37 temporarily and then before that expired
2:41 I actually got xplit on board as a sponsor of Linus Media Group so they set
2:46 me up with an account so somehow somewhere the wires must have gotten
2:51 crossed and what was happening was I was going to sign in to xsplit to stream the
2:56 show today and it was telling me I didn't have an account and when I I
2:59 tried to recover my password it was saying No Such account found so it's
3:04 like Lost In The Ether and then when I tried to sign up for a new account using
3:09 my email address it's like nope nope that account's that email address is
3:13 already in use I'm like what you got to be kidding me so I
3:18 had to use a different email address and to take care of it forever I just signed
3:22 up for a lifetime xplit account I don't even care and so now I will never have
3:27 to worry about it again apparently a lifetime spit account is
3:31 $450 so today I learned but uh you know
3:34 what it's it's worth it if you use it all the time we've got people being like
3:38 you paid for this crap when obfs just
3:41 work the reason we don't use OBS is not because we're not aware of
3:46 OBS we're aware of OBS so I'm perfectly
3:50 happy with xsplit uh it's just minor glitch account got lost and people are
3:55 like oh you paid for this no I didn't I'm pretty sure that's why my account is
3:59 all screwed up because I actually hadn't paid for xplit before but I'm now
4:03 officially a paying customer so there you go um people are like $450 drops
4:10 dead you guys have got no idea what it
4:14 costs to be a Content creation professional let me tell you
4:20 $450 is nothing nothing I'm pretty sure that's
4:26 less than what we paid for a single codec on our recording device for our
4:32 main camera it's like it's nothing it's
4:35 a drop in the bucket I'm not saying it's nothing $450 is a lot of money but when
4:40 it comes to video creation tools that's
4:44 not expensive we were looking at this this is actually really cool okay it's
4:49 pre- inro but I'm still I'm still going to do this I'm going to jump into
4:54 uh replace uh warp
4:57 I'm hm it's uh it's an either an after
5:01 effects or it is a um or it is a premier
5:05 plugin but this thing just came out you know what I'm I'm going to I'm going to
5:09 yell at someone in the uh in the editing room this is really cool though so
5:13 there's a new stabilizer uh plugin
5:17 essentially what's that plugin you
5:20 showed me earlier for stabilization and it replaces the warp
5:26 stabilizer that you can use through Adobe and it's like freaking amazing
5:30 Colton Colton got send me the link for that stabilizer that you were looking at
5:33 today I want to show people on the stream um and that costs $400 just for a
5:39 plugin a plugin for Adobe Creative Cloud
5:44 which costs $80 a month per
5:48 seat it's just a plugin um I mean it's a pretty sick
5:53 plugin they were showing like Drone footage that was stabilized to crap they
5:58 were showing just like some pretty shaky pretty brutal stuff and uh it looks it
6:03 looks absolutely amazing here it is so this is a this is a Vimeo link that I've
6:08 got here there we go so it's called real steady that's the one and why is just a
6:15 second let me oh there we go screen capture and Screen region Boom
6:22 professional video stabilization for After
6:26 Effects okay desktop region NOP
6:30 nope and add screen
6:34 capture and
6:40 boom there I am being all like yep xits
6:43 working great for me and here we are for
6:47 some reason my news item is not is not showing up well yay I'm feeling pretty
6:53 good about that at the moment what the what the weird this is
6:59 some really bizarre stuff right now I've actually never seen it do this before oh
7:03 there you go okay so check check this out check
7:06 this out guys professional uh professional whatever
7:11 they're calling it
7:18 okay so that's warp stabilizer you can really see that like Jello-O wobbly
7:24 effect that is some crazy Next Level stuff now it is fairly
7:30 apparent that um hold on I'm just going to I don't know what the volume is like
7:34 on this right now I haven't I haven't adjusted it hopefully you guys can hear me over this but it's fairly apparent
7:38 when you look at the footage that they're losing some sharpness and uh
7:42 some people online are talking about how with a subject that moves around within
7:47 the frame a lot it doesn't work as well but this is still some really really
7:53 crazy stuff right here so um yeah that's
7:56 $400 just for a plugin uh so I'm going
8:00 to go ahead and roll the intro because clearly this show has no Direction maybe
8:04 that'll help me gather my thoughts for a second here and then I can bring on my
8:07 guest and we can get into what I think will be probably the coolest segment of the show so here it goes
8:48 have a third sponsor today no not that
8:51 one I already showed that one that I I don't have an intro screen for but don't
8:57 worry too much about that um basically Intel Intel for their game on they're
9:02 down at packs they doing all kinds of crazy cool stuff so let's jump into our
9:07 first real topic of the day I'm going to
9:10 introduce my guest and I hope this works
9:15 Tyler nice shirt by the way
9:19 bro all right so I hope they can hear you all right because I certainly can
9:23 and I have pretty much no way of bringing up twitch chat now and making
9:28 sure that they can hear you so Tyler why don't
9:32 you oh Hangouts how I do adore you that
9:39 that was a great thing that just happened right there so guys one of the
9:43 other right I never even went through all the issues I'm having with the
9:46 Stream So once I got everything working
9:49 I realized that my CPU usage was at
9:53 100% and uh it seemed to be to do with
9:57 my hangouts um video feed from Tyler
10:01 here who is uh hopefully I'm G to be
10:05 able to hopefully I'm G to be able to get him back and apparently there was no
10:09 sound from him anyway so I'm going to have to I'm going to have to figure that
10:12 out that out as well boy I am having
10:16 quite the day
10:19 today um you guys are witnessing live
10:22 what it's like for me to be completely so this this is what I go through this
10:28 is what it's like for me to set up the show wow this is great so I'm here we go
10:35 here we go so I am in this video call
10:38 why don't I why don't I why don't I drop out of that video call maybe we'll
10:42 switch to well no hold on maybe this will work okay yeah maybe this will work
10:48 so I'm gonna so basically what I did was I I turned off my video feed to
10:52 hopefully get CPU utilization low enough that I was able to that I was able to
10:56 make this happen so open volume mixer all right let's see if maybe my
11:03 guest has audio this time guys can you
11:06 hear Tyler let's let's hope for the best
11:10 here if you talk it might help
11:17 Tyler I can hear you just fine I'm still
11:21 trying to figure out if they can and because twitch chat trolls me
11:25 incessantly it is uh it is it is actually it is actually not necessarily
11:32 that likely that I will be able to uh
11:35 that I will be able to determine based on what they say whether or not you're
11:39 working here so hold on let me just I'm going to switch you away so that I can
11:43 go ahead and uh NOP NOP NOP apparent I'm
11:50 muted what says I'm
11:54 muted hold on okay well you can hear me now right
12:00 yeah but that doesn't solve that doesn't solve their problem where they're saying
12:03 they cannot hear you so I uh I am at a bit of a loss
12:09 maybe we'll okay oh
12:12 wow yeah yeah I I got that thank you I'm getting a report from inside that they
12:17 cannot hear Tyler um that that is quite a
12:22 fascinating that is quite a fascinating thing I wonder if it's just a matter of
12:28 like setting up a different a different speaker hold on okay well let's try that
12:34 okay talk again well now I can't hear
12:39 you so um wow wouldn't it be funny
12:44 wouldn't it be funny if they could hear you now I would laugh I would find that
12:49 amusing if uh if I was basically out of
12:53 luck and you guys could hear
12:56 him oh wow
13:02 okay wow I just bumped the capture
13:08 I'm all right so uh we're
13:13 back I uh
13:16 so I would hold it up to demonstrate
13:21 exactly what happened
13:29 yeah see I can hear you really well in my right ear um the problem though is
13:34 that when I go into my device
13:38 configuration oh here we go wait what the crap is
13:44 this oh hold on is it gone hey Tyler can
13:49 you talk yeah can you hear me I can hear you yeah I can hear
13:54 you any Echo is that it yeah E's gone
13:59 are we good
14:02 yeah all right all right I love this
14:06 show
14:11 wo and we're back okay welcome to the
14:15 show for real this is Tyler Tyler introduce yourself who the crap are you
14:19 and why should we care yeah you shouldn't really care no I am just a 25y
14:25 old guy in 20c in Tennessee designing
14:28 stuff all right so what are what are some of the other projects because as I recall
14:33 we didn't really see much of your portfolio before you emailed in and
14:37 you're basically like yeah I'm so like I'm a huge fan of the show and like I'll
14:42 I'll work for peanuts if I can design your new warehouse and new office space
14:47 and we were like wow so we actually have had zero other applicants for this job
14:52 and if this guy is anywhere near a complete not an idiot then that should
14:58 be perfect and so so that was basically how you w it but can you tell me some of
15:01 the other stuff that you've done well I
15:05 The Firm that I work at here I do a bunch of dental work dental offices I do
15:11 bunch of residential work uh that's probably the majority of the things that
15:14 I do you might say that first one is just the filler material yeah pretty
15:18 much well they do take some time but um but you got to drill down on the
15:23 details yeah literally drill down yeah you gota it's it's kind of picky
15:30 work are you being very specific about dentists I I'm just I'm just I'm just
15:35 I'm just making I'm making I'm making Dental Implement jokes it's not very
15:39 funny it's okay um so I mean so basically what what interested you about
15:43 working on this project well I've been a
15:46 fan of the show for ever since you started your company and I feel like
15:51 after watching you guys so so much in your reviews your your um The W show all
15:58 these different videos that you that you make I felt like of all the people I I
16:03 could design this around you guys
16:06 because I know y'all's characteristics and that's basically
16:12 what oh you broke up for a second there hopefully we get you back pretty quick
16:20 here all right and we're dropping frames
16:37 oh yeah we are in coding frames again so that's exciting but we uh we may have
16:43 lost Tyler a little bit there which is
16:46 uh pretty pretty interesting you guys can look at that blurry blurry picture
16:51 of Tyler it's very nice or I could actually I could actually move that out
16:54 of the way until he comes back which would be super awesome uh all right well
17:00 in the meantime why don't I go ahead and jump into one of the topics that we
17:04 actually have for the
17:07 show
17:19 um and we're
17:24 back for real this time I super duper
17:28 hope is the case uh for good this time I
17:32 also super hope is the case wow I think
17:36 this may be a new record for
17:44 the
17:51 wow I was about to say this may be a new
17:54 record for the most broken WAN Show of
17:59 all time please wait look at yourself
18:02 while you wait you can make sure that your video is working which sure why not
18:07 that's real helpful right
18:10 now just face face microphone is all I
18:15 can say because this is this is one this
18:19 is one broken show today guys
18:23 um look looked like it was going to kind of oh
18:27 oh it's going to try it's going to try
18:31 get it too all right and oh I think we're back for real this
18:37 time this is like a roller coaster it's up it's down it's down again it goes
18:43 down some more it's up for like another second and then it's down okay so I
18:48 don't even remember what you're talking about Tyler can you can you feed it to me one more time what what was the last
18:52 thing I said I I I don't I don't know
18:55 maybe some of the viewers were paying enough attention to to to know what's
19:00 going on something something you watch the show something helpful know our
19:03 personalities there that's a summary okay yeah all right so yeah the last
19:08 thing I said was I felt like I knew year all's characteristic quite a bit so I
19:13 could design the space for you guys quite re relevantly you know between
19:17 y'all's work between y'all's Workshop your bench bench testing area um I felt
19:22 like I had a knack for how you guys flow so I took a chance I sent an email uh
19:27 immediately after after you announced it on the W show back in November and I
19:32 said surely I could I could get to this guy you know hopefully it could happen
19:35 because I really want to do this I really want to say I did this so lucked
19:39 out and it's been a blast ever since all right so how about this uh do you have
19:43 any of the early sketches that you did of what the space was going to look like
19:47 that you can share with us did you find them I know you just moved yeah yes yes
19:51 I found a couple of them not some of the earliest ones but after we kind of had a
19:56 a knack for a feel for it back when the staircase was in the very front so let's
20:01 see if this camera does that's right I forgot about that okay no I got I got
20:07 some extra ones here here for you all right
20:10 excellent okay this was uh apparently
20:15 this is version a and this is of when the stair was in the very front there we
20:19 go okay okay so here you go guys I'll I
20:22 I got my mouse on here so so this was the original plan can you shift a little
20:26 bit to your right oh that's that's good too there that's perfect okay so version
20:31 a so basically the doors are fixed because they're part of the outer outer
20:35 structure there was nothing we could do for that we were originally going to put
20:39 Nick in like the seat here right
20:43 at the front so whenever anyone knocked at the door it was going to be Nick so
20:46 that says sales admin and then Tyler was
20:50 it a code violation that was why we couldn't put the stairs
20:54 here yes apparently well
20:59 the contractors didn't feel comfortable not having it enclosed how we have it
21:02 now and the which it works out great now
21:05 because the fact that you have an upstairs office it would the code
21:09 required that the staircase be enclosed and fire rated so oh I we kind of had to
21:14 it kind of had to make a shift and then my mind was exploded because I was
21:19 frustrated because I wanted that staircase I had a brilliant idea for that staircase up front but it kind of
21:24 got shut down so we had to alter the plan a little bit but I think it turned out for the for the better okay okay
21:28 show it to us again show it to us again I'll I'll I'll walk people through like what else we got what else we got going
21:33 on here okay that good so this is really
21:36 funny that that is no no this was uh
21:40 this was going to be the server room so we were going to have the server room
21:43 inside this was before I think it was Tyler was it your idea or mine to to
21:48 move the server room out under the stairs and widen the stairs I think it
21:53 was I think it was your idea to be honest because you wanted you wanted the
21:57 server room to be as slightly bigger yes and I didn't want to waste
22:02 like expensive floor area on what was essentially just going to be like a
22:06 bunch of computers sitting on a sitting on a shelf so so you guys can actually
22:10 see here that even though the library underwent several revisions even one
22:15 where there was a room here that was going to be like a weird closet where I
22:19 was going to put someone maybe Nick again um the library actually has almost
22:24 returned to its original shape with the only difference being that the door is
22:28 where where the server room used to be the kitchenet is actually the one thing
22:31 that really hasn't moved the bench testing room has changed a lot though
22:35 you can see originally storage was going to be at the back and then the L desks
22:40 were going to be like here and there was like a weird like testing cable here and
22:43 then the work Studio has always kind of been a constant okay so do you have any
22:48 other revisions for us yeah let's see well in regards to the
22:55 library because you mentioned it we went through you know several Visions I think
22:59 several is a very small term I think it went through dozens and dozens of of
23:03 looks and I went through dozens and dozens of layouts from the very
23:07 beginning because I know you said we needed it to fit in this area and I was like for what you want there's no
23:11 possible way that's gonna fit yeah I was like I was like okay Tyler I have a
23:16 th000 square feet and I want you to put, 1500 square feet in it so
23:23 go and I was like No And so so this guy
23:27 twists my ARM he's like well like um what if we could extend you know the the
23:33 back wall just just just a bit come on lus just a bit we extend the back wall
23:39 just a bit and we go 1100 square F feet
23:42 and I'm like can you put, 1500 square feet in 1100 square feet and so you got
23:47 you got another revision to show us okay so okay in regards to the library okay
23:53 this is these are really really tiny because I was overlaying them so this is
23:57 Trace paper that I would overl lay on the sketch that I was just showing you
24:01 so hold on let me try learning all these techniques here guys we're we're going
24:04 to be able to be like designers like Tyler now okay so here there you go oh
24:10 here I can I can show them I can show them what's up so this was when the
24:13 sales SL admin had moved to the other side so yet another revision to the
24:18 front and then the kitchenet is still where it was and then the library was
24:23 going to be like a couple couches and then some desks here which the the
24:26 layout of the furniture anyway has even changed since changed from anything
24:31 Tyler envisioned because we've got Esther coming in and like doing the design of that but that was what the
24:35 space was kind of envisioned as as being
24:39 okay you got you got any other ones for us yeah and this is a different one um
24:44 with the wall not being angled like like the previous version I just showed you
24:48 so this is very slight different but you can see the wall right and and then the
24:54 desk at the front there gets uh a little side table or a filing cabinet if
25:00 if it was Nick we were going to put there which was was very very likely
25:04 that poor person and then this inevitably is the
25:09 the first sketch of the final design for the library oh you guys are seeing like
25:13 concept art now so the reason for this
25:17 uh is that this was this weird shaped wall was uh in this is Esther's concept
25:23 was going to end up with like kind of a built-in bookcase or something here and
25:27 it was going to have like a display wall for like Awards and like you know
25:31 Guinness World Records that we've broken and stuff like that and um so so this
25:37 was cut in because we had to relocate the stairs just outside of the frame
25:42 right here to go straight up and we
25:46 actually okay you can go ahead and put that down I'm not pointing at it anymore
25:49 and we had to change the front entryway
25:52 to have like these fire rated doors so
25:56 that you know fire couldn't something something people can get down from the
26:00 upstairs whatever who cares about the people upstairs um so so that was how we
26:04 ended up with that weird shape because it's not that I wanted a reception desk
26:09 I believe Tyler is it correct that by that point in the design stage we had
26:13 decided that visitors were going to come to Bay one to Door 104 and we were going
26:18 to have like a remote entry buzz-in system is that correct yeah we yeah
26:23 that's correct we had talked about a way where you can give them a remote access
26:27 or if there's a frequent visitor maybe they had a card and they slid a card and
26:30 they were able to get in like Hightech that point Hightech stuff um and there
26:36 was another design once we decided to move the staircase to where it is now um
26:42 because like again the library had changed so much but this was a uh kind
26:46 of an oddball idea that was good it
26:49 didn't turn out the way it did ah yes
26:53 that would have actually been so bizarre when you w when you walked in cuz this
26:58 would have scooched the library up to the point where the editing Den I think
27:02 we had to this is the one you sent me where you made the editing Den smaller
27:06 wasn't it uh no the editing D's the same size I
27:12 think it's the uh is this prior to
27:15 moving the back wall or something like that oh this is yeah yes you can yeah so
27:23 we ended up this is where this is where he negotiated that so the compromise
27:27 here was that we either had to extend the back wall or we had to we had in
27:32 order to compress this space here and then that was where we lost the weird
27:36 like sales SL admin like weird like
27:40 closet thing that you were going to like walk straight into back here it was
27:45 going to be super weird and it was going to be like really crowded really crowded by the front so the reason we ended up
27:50 with like a a reception area at all because I didn't really feel like I
27:56 needed one was in case ever want to resell the place so that was how we
28:00 ended up with the weird cutout in the library so that someone could sit there
28:05 if they really really wanted to so um
28:09 and the other thing about the resale that we pointed out was the contractors
28:14 and I discussed heavily with hundreds and hundreds of emails about what the
28:17 heck we were going to do about this structure and I know um yavon and I have
28:21 been talking back and forth with it too said where are we going to put these bearing walls and we got to thinking no
28:26 they're going to want to resell it later we can't have any bearing walls in this
28:30 place because the new tenant will just want to rip it all out and design it
28:33 themselves so we had to make a decision there on what the heck we were going to
28:37 support the storage at the time which
28:40 which was so now the floor that you guys have should be
28:45 overrated for what an office space is so
28:48 it's actually stronger than what it should be so you guys had to re-engineer
28:52 the downstairs structurally because the
28:55 original plan and this is actually something that a lot of viewers won't
28:59 know the original plan for the Upper Floor of the office space was just to
29:04 have like an outside staircase up there and it was just going to be storage like
29:08 shelves and shelves and shelves of of random overflow storage so it was
29:13 designed for us to have a bunch of storage crap up there and then when we
29:18 made the deal with vessel and all of a sudden we kind of went oh crap how are
29:22 we even going to build out that upstairs once we've moved in because we're going
29:25 to be trying to film and they're going to be trying to build an office which is
29:28 obviously two things that don't mesh too well together and we kind of went okay
29:33 let's just build out the upstairs how are we going to get rid of all this
29:36 stuff that is where the garage sale concept was born not because we wanted
29:42 to have a garage sale but because we literally took an eraser to our storage
29:47 area and put in offices that's what
29:51 happened yeah it was a last minute decision you're like we got we got some
29:56 extra stuff we want to do let's throw some offices and we got like a week okay
30:02 let's throw it there so okay so this this is kind of a funny story Tyler I
30:06 don't know if you actually even know this but do do you have any early drawings of the
30:10 upstairs oh gosh no because that wasn't really I
30:16 didn't even get this I didn't have time to even sketch that that was just pure
30:20 computer work just go go go go for gold
30:24 just just do all do the detail drawing up up right and then and then hopefully
30:28 we'll just make that no okay so we actually did make some revisions to
30:32 Tyler's original drawing and this is kind of a funny story I don't even know if you know this Tyler so so he sent me
30:38 uh the the computer drawing and my wife and I went out into the culdesac in
30:42 front of our house with a laptop with the drawing on it we we went out there
30:47 with like a gigantic tape measure and sidewalk chalk because neither of us are
30:53 really that good like just looking at a piece of paper and envisioning what that
30:58 is like to walk around in and by this stage they had actually already put up
31:04 the uh the the like the outside of the downstairs and we were walking around in
31:08 it before they actually put up any of the inside walls going wow this is a
31:12 really claustrophobic really small space
31:16 I really hope that we've done the right thing here um okay we need to not make
31:21 these same mistakes for the upstairs so my wife and I came to the office on a
31:25 weekend with sidewalk chalk and and Drew out all the walls of the downstairs and
31:30 went wow this is really tight uh-oh and then we were like okay let's not make
31:34 the same mistake for the upstairs so we went out in our culde-sac and we
31:37 actually Drew out the entire thing so that we could walk around in the office
31:43 in the middle of the of the of like the bulbus end of our street and that was
31:48 how we ended up redesigning okay so that is how our conference room so Tyler you
31:54 had originally had the conference room like about what percent wider than what
31:58 we ended up with I would say it would be about 10% wider than it was okay it was
32:04 a little bit wider and it was also in three different locations at first I had
32:08 the conference room in your office right
32:12 yes and then I decided I wanted the window out into my
32:16 Empire yep pretty much um so and then
32:19 10% doesn't sound like a lot but let me tell you guys 10% is the difference
32:25 between having enough room to have a chair on one side of a table and not
32:30 having enough room to have a chair on one side of a table so that was where
32:35 the concept of the buil-in the built-in
32:38 bench over top of of like the the like
32:43 the space that's taken up by like the exit sign in the floor below because
32:47 they like they don't quite meet up evenly so that was where the concept of the built-in bench to make enough room
32:52 to have chairs around all the other edges of the conference room came from
32:56 not because we're like yeah we're like like a quirky like Web 2.0 company we're
33:00 going to have like a bench in our conference room it was because I decided
33:05 that if we made the conference room the width Tyler wanted we were taking up too
33:09 much space from the open concept area and my office was too
33:13 big so that was from walking around in the culdesac that's where all that came
33:18 from I think you actually told me I think you or yavon one told me about you
33:22 guys going up there with chalk think I might have known that and you must have
33:25 been thinking wow this is like the ultimate Amateur
33:29 hour no I actually thought it was pretty genius I mean you you don't know how the
33:34 space is going to feel unless you go there no it's it's pretty tough it's
33:38 it's pretty tough so um so tell me like
33:41 you were doing this in addition to your regular job you're East Coast right yeah
33:45 so we would get emails from this guy at like 2 2:30 in the morning 3 in the
33:51 morning our time what was your personal
33:54 life like when you were working on this project man oh gosh it was well I didn't
33:59 really have I didn't really do a whole whole lot because all my friends moved away so I've been kind of readjusting to
34:04 where I'm at now but man coming it's it was weird going
34:09 from work doing that nine eight or nine hour job of architecture then coming
34:14 home and be like I gotta I gotta do this guy's thing so how long is this gonna
34:18 take we I was dedicated but it was going
34:21 to get done and then when I was sending those emails to you 2:33 in the morning
34:25 it was 6:30 7 you know3 in the morning my time so that's when I woke
34:30 up I think our first conversation you on the phone you were like can I call you
34:35 at 1:30 like my time like yeah sure why
34:39 not well the thing is like it's like I I
34:42 work you know self-employed you know not
34:45 typical hours so when I'm in the office
34:49 when I'm in the studio that's when all of my staff are in I need to be like
34:53 shooting videos so then I I get home I've got like a couple hours with the
34:57 kids which is all I really get so I'm like okay no that's that's kids time and
35:03 then I I sit down and I'm like I'm like
35:06 fried and that's when I get to sit and
35:09 you know write or do emails or whatever else so anything that's extra curricular
35:14 like if I'm not writing tomorrow's video because I got to get that done and I
35:18 have to be somewhat Lucid when I'm doing that anything extracurricular kind of
35:23 falls into it has to come after so I'm like yeah like I work kind of weird
35:28 hours Tyler is this gonna work for you no it worked out fine I had to take
35:33 a break there every now and then though but entertain the eyes on the weekend
35:36 but it was it was all good so okay so so
35:40 so tell me something like would you would you do it again would you do this project again yes okay what's it like
35:46 seeing seeing the finished office for you even though we haven't furnished it
35:50 yet it's really cool because it's the only project I've done in Canada um and
35:57 that alone was miraculous didn't think I could actually do it because through
36:01 Consulting with so other many people up there in Siri it was it was an email
36:05 blast all day I'm trying to do my job my regular job and I'm like my phone's
36:09 going off the hook with emails from from you guys and I'm like this is this is
36:15 awesome but it it was fun it was an experience so yeah I totally do it again
36:20 you know what's really funny is you're talking about the email barrage so I
36:24 thought and this is like my just me
36:27 totally naive I thought that the email thread that I was cced on between you
36:32 and Ivonne that had gotten so long that
36:35 it took like 20 plus 30 plus seconds to
36:39 load in Gmail I thought that was the only one between you two oh no no no no
36:46 I know no I know that now so there were multiple Gmail threads throughout this
36:51 project that basically can't
36:54 load and some of them are like like the
36:57 Imes I sent you earlier some of those emails have 10 Meg 12 Meg renderings on
37:03 them right no wonder they're not going to load oh crap I haven't even okay okay
37:08 I gotta kind of kick you off for a second here no no they'll still be able
37:11 to hear you um but I gotta like I got to boot off your face for a second here so
37:16 that I can show everyone some of the uh some of the renders so this was uh this
37:20 was this was really cool this was a really cool part of the experience for
37:24 me um let me just check I think you sent that as a drive dve link is that
37:28 correct yes okay let me let me pull that
37:31 up there we go there we go drive link so this was really cool this was this was a
37:36 neat part of the process that I didn't didn't even occur to me like I thought I
37:40 you guys are seeing like the overhead drawings like the just the the the top
37:45 down drawings spec drawings but there were actually uh let me just go ahead
37:49 and share this with you guys I hope oh
37:53 nope it looks like I uh I I broke some
37:56 things when there we
37:59 go so these were some of the renderings
38:02 that uh that we that we got to look at when we were kind of conceptualizing the
38:07 whole thing so this was an early drawing of what this would look like with a
38:11 reception desk now we've actually since decided we're just going to put like a
38:14 little waiting bench here and um I'm not
38:19 sure about these light fixtures I think hey Tyler can can you see like are you
38:22 watching the stream muted like can you see what I'm looking at all right cool
38:27 were these lights were these lights just a figment of your imagination or are
38:31 these based on something oh that's that's based on your
38:34 wife's sister oh that is oh are we actually putting those in I that's what
38:39 I was told she sent me some pictures of make lights look like this so and that
38:44 that reception desk that you see there too is based on an image as well that I
38:48 got so I just modeled that in there all right cool so here's the here's the
38:52 concept for the sign that uh those of you who have seen or attended a tour of
38:57 the h Q have probably seen uh it's finished in like a glossy gray now it
39:01 looks really really sharp um so here's
39:05 this is a door that we didn't want to put in uh this was a door that we had to
39:09 do for like fire code purposes um
39:13 something to do with flames from the downstairs getting to the upstairs and
39:17 making it so that people upstairs would die or something um so I had really
39:22 wanted it to be open when you walk in so you could go you could go right into the
39:25 kitchen this is this is final kitchen design this is what it's been for the
39:30 longest time uh there's a better look at what the reception area could look like
39:34 someday if someone ever puts a reception desk in there
39:39 um yeah this oh this feels like so concept Arty so this is this is the
39:44 library in render this is what oh this
39:47 is really cool so this is an earlier render of the editing Den when the
39:51 intention was still to put whole room water cooling into the new office so you
39:57 can see that Tyler has actually modeled in the copper piping for whole room here
40:03 how long did that take I'm sorry we didn't end up putting that in man oh no
40:07 um if you if you go to the very very last image it should have your the W
40:13 show vinyl on there the lonus tech tips vinyl and it's got the copper colored
40:16 and everything really yeah that was
40:20 photoshopped the actual piping was a bit
40:23 of a challenge but putting everything else in didn't take too long so these
40:28 are there's some things in here that you guys are seeing that are not actually
40:31 done yet so uh these partitions for example I believe we have sourced but
40:36 not ordered we're still not 100% sure about putting them between people but I
40:41 you know I think it might be nice to have the blinders on once in a while uh these cubicles if we put them in I
40:46 really wasn't sure how tidy those would end up looking and we might do like uh
40:50 floor floor standing rolling drawer
40:53 things that people can tuck under their desks now but these cubicles were
40:57 definitely something that we were planning to do just cuz they kind of
41:00 looked cool uh vinyl wall deal may or
41:03 may not go on at some point but um yeah you guys are seeing what it may end up
41:08 looking like in the future as opposed to what we've actually got implemented so
41:12 far uh this is a look at what we had planned for storage in here it ended up
41:16 not quite working out that way because the racks that we got for cheap on Craigslist are a bit wider than the
41:20 concept racks so we actually have them three of them kind of staggered and then
41:25 here's more of these Cube ideas that we we may actually still still roll out uh
41:31 that's a no furniture render of the library let's see let's see what else we
41:35 got here the kind of cool stuff I guess there's did you ever do renders of the
41:39 upstairs or were you at that point uh had you gotten to the point where you
41:43 were just gonna collapse if you tried to do any more work on this project oh no
41:47 no no no no I had intended on doing the upstairs but I kind of got tied up with
41:52 other things but I remember yavon and um
41:56 Esther we're so wrapped up in the things that were going on because that was the
41:59 time we were trying to get a permit and and they both said we don't care right
42:04 now we're just trying to get a permit so I was like okay we'll just hold it off
42:07 for right now and you guys just let me uh let me know if you want them or not
42:11 because you already had the design you already know knew what you wanted it to look like and the renderings that I did
42:15 earlier were were really just for getting because we had gone through so
42:19 many variations of carpet and tile and wall color and right all sorts of
42:25 things all these all these little details that I've that I've I've tried
42:31 not I've tried to avoid to the best of
42:34 my ability because I mean the thing about this project is throughout the
42:37 whole thing I have to keep making videos so Ivonne would Corner me like after you
42:43 guys have been exchanging emails in the middle of the night and be like okay I
42:46 need you to make decisions about this stuff please make decisions about I'm
42:50 like okay okay okay I'll look at it but but I mean the the vast majority of the
42:54 work was done by Tyler Yvonne Esther and
42:57 our and our contracting company that uh I I think this is this is kind of funny
43:02 I don't think I like I think they did not ever intend for me to hear this but
43:08 I heard one of the workers talking to one of the other workers about one of
43:13 the higher-ups at our Contracting Company referring to this job as the job
43:17 from hell where literally everything has gone
43:22 wrong and it really has felt like that at times I know that you know as much as
43:27 You Know It's upsetting and frustrating for me that this has taken a long time I
43:30 mean it's not like they're getting paid until it's done so it's just sitting
43:34 there on their desks taking up time
43:39 while you know we wait for permits and do this and do that so it was it was a real struggle for for everyone so Tyler
43:44 then now that this is done uh you know what do what do you think are are we
43:49 going to get going on our our next project together that that Yvonne does
43:52 tell me you have agreed to help with yes we could do that whenever you want all
43:57 right do you want to share with I haven't told the audience about this they they have no idea this is coming I
44:01 don't even know would this would this even be a good like Linus Tech tips Vlog
44:06 series or something uh do you want to do you want to do the big reveal for what
44:09 the next big the next big uh Tyler Linus
44:13 collaboration is going to be sure no problem um I don't know a whole whole
44:18 lot about it at this point as far as the details and things me neither but oh
44:23 okay great we'll talk about that um he they have asked to help them design a
44:29 cat enclosure for the number one cats in
44:34 Canada so if if if creating an office
44:38 Studios space for a YouTube company wasn't kind of out there enough for you
44:43 this should pretty much this should pretty much take the cake right this one
44:46 goes on the resume book for sure excellent well I got to move on and
44:52 do some tech topics but um you know I just want to say once and for all in
44:57 front of all 6,700 people that stuck with us through the technical details
45:00 and are or difficulties excuse me and are somehow watching the show still
45:04 thank you guys by the way thank you very much um we love we absolutely love our
45:10 new space I mean even Ed who was kind of
45:13 indifferent throughout the time we were moving in he was kind of like yeah it's
45:17 a you know it's a place to work which just like great that it'll be a better place to work but like you know he was
45:22 telling yvon he had he didn't know that it was going to make this big of a
45:25 difference um it is just it's great it feels like it was designed for us built
45:31 for us and is just it it's perfect for us it's right for us um and it's just
45:36 it's just fantastic we we're not moved in yet but even not moved in here I feel
45:43 like so many things are smoother than being fully moved in at the old place
45:48 because the space is just so much better so thank you very much for all your hard
45:51 work and uh all those all those sleepless sleepless nights that you
45:55 spent on this thank you you're welcome it was a pleasure all right so I will
46:00 I'll talk to you soon about the cat enclosure project and for now bye-bye
46:03 and uh see you later see you guys all
46:07 right and and he's gone all right so uh
46:12 let's get uh let's get on with sort of the tech news for this week thank again
46:17 to you guys for actually staying tuned into the show because this has been
46:21 quite the uh the uh the cluster cluster
46:25 you know rub against each other thing that we've got going on here so um you
46:30 know what for I hate to do this to you guys but I think we should probably jump
46:34 in and do sponsors and then I'll do the the rest of the show the show is

48:09 oh oh now I know what happened okay uh
48:16 Hey guys can someone help
48:21 me um I need help with a thing give me a

50:11 continental US and Canada for that one so check out our Forum thread on the
50:16 Linus Tech tips forum for all the Intel
50:19 PAX Prime activities and Deals so I'm
50:23 going to go ahead and do a news topic while I get the tunnel bear lower third
50:27 thrown onto that USB drive because due to a complicated networking setup I am
50:33 not able to access any of the servers right now woot woot I love this show
50:38 baby all right why don't we do some actual news for a change on the W show
50:43 so YouTube gaming let's go ahead and
50:46 pull up the uh wired.com article here
50:50 blippity bloy news item I hope wow thank
50:54 you look at that watch out twitch you YouTube gaming just went live that
50:59 actually happened surprisingly quickly either my life is going by faster or it
51:04 really was just like oh maybe we maybe it was like a month plus ago that uh
51:10 that YouTube was giving a sneak peak of what YouTube gaming their direct
51:15 response to Twitch TV was going to look like because the reality of it is
51:20 YouTube has a lot of gameplay guys on
51:24 there but it's a very very different
51:28 medium live broadcast versus archive
51:31 broadcast and so sorry emergency files
51:35 thank you so YouTube has pretty much captured the the edited gameplay content
51:42 and twitch has captured the live gameplay content so twitch has actually
51:46 moved away from VOD content over the
51:50 last couple of years so they they went ahead and they started turning off by
51:54 default archived videos for longer than I think it's what two weeks or something
51:58 along those lines so it's a short period of time and for partners I believe it's
52:02 mandatory that your videos will be deleted they're a live broadcast
52:06 platform period and then YouTube has mostly ignored live broadcast with
52:11 Hangouts on air being sort of well from
52:15 from my experience with it just I mean I tried to use it today there you go
52:20 that's pretty much all I have to say about that um oh no I'll just have to
52:23 deal with it later because I'm doing a news topic right now Ed Ed wants to to get back to work or something doesn't
52:28 want to just hang around and find out if this USB drive is going to work for me
52:32 so basically what it is is it is a it's
52:37 like it's it's it's actually kind of a a separated user experience now so let's
52:43 let's go ahead and actually bring it up YouTube
52:46 gaming gaming. you.com if you guys are
52:50 want to check it out on your own and in a nutshell it's an attempt to take the
52:56 the the it's an attempt to well basically to
53:00 take what other game streaming platforms are doing well and Implement as many of
53:07 those elements as they can in a place where gaming content is not going to get
53:12 lost in the mix of other things like you know for example if you search for you
53:17 know Halo on YouTube maybe Halo is not a great example because Halo should bring
53:21 up a lot of gaming content but if you search for Halo you might find a video
53:25 that's like costume design ideas for
53:29 Halloween how to build your own Angel Halo and gaming. you.com is attempting
53:34 to completely eliminate that kind of
53:38 crap um the live videos run via Google's
53:42 HTML 5 backend so twitch is still running on flash so they've definitely
53:46 tried to amp things up in terms of the technology
53:51 um although they haven't worked out all
53:54 of the details necessarily yet so Jack
53:58 frs's stream of Gears of War ultimate his monetization was rejected due to
54:03 copyright infringement so they still have a lot of work to do on the back end
54:07 of things whether it's you know working with large tournaments to actually host
54:13 that content on gaming. youtube.com
54:16 something that twitch pretty much owns right now and yes
54:21 Ed oh okay bye thank you um
54:28 and so and then they've also this is the
54:31 most the most disrupted W show of all
54:36 time so anyway it took it took about five hours for um for get right and
54:41 they've got to figure out with the gaming the game makers how they can
54:46 avoid the kinds of takeown issues that
54:50 twitch has suffered from in the past whether it's whether it's gameplay
54:53 footage gameplay soundtracks uh whether
54:57 it's just music that streamers are listening to in the background um with
55:02 that whole you know not very well handled at first but hey it's it's
55:06 getting better audio muting things so they've got they've got a long way to go
55:12 but um hey it's good to have other
55:15 players and I'll be very interested to see how remember twitch is now owned by
55:19 Amazon um who definitely wants a piece of that online video content pie I will
55:24 definitely be interested to see how Amazon twitch reacts to reacts to this
55:29 play from YouTube uh so let's go ahead and do our last sponsor spot here
55:36 hopefully tunnel doesn't bring up too many things in my dock here it really
55:40 doesn't help that my computer is not running particularly well because uh
55:44 it's better it's a little bit better now but it was like really brutal when I was
55:48 trying to uh broadcast video to Tyler
55:51 for our video chat broadcast video to you guys accept video input from Tyler
55:56 um and yeah I'm even now here I'll uh
56:00 I'll I'll I'll show you guys this check this out uh add screen
56:06 capture uh oh wow what I just did didn't work at all well whatever task manager
56:10 is hitting like 100% Peaks from time to time so tunnel bear.com
56:15 LTT it's the easy to use privacy app for mobile and desktop it works on iOS
56:20 Android Mac PC Chrome you can tunnel
56:23 through 14 different countries allowing you to browse the internet as though
56:27 you're in that country so it's a VPN service essentially it secures your
56:31 internet when you're on public Wi-Fi this is actually great when you're
56:35 traveling um if you're at a conference if you're working from you know a cafe
56:39 like a Starbucks or whatever else or especially you know like not a like a
56:44 trusted you know public Wi-Fi hotspot
56:48 definitely a good idea and allows you to access Geo blocked websites so a perfect
56:53 example of a use for this uh back when uh Google Glass class first launched and
56:57 you couldn't order it from outside the United States I was able to use a VPN
57:00 service in order to pretend I was in the states and well in that case it didn't
57:06 actually end up being the the total solution that I needed because I also
57:10 had to produce a US based credit card from a us-based account but you know
57:15 it's a whole other thing I was able to access the site so it's good for that
57:18 kind of stuff and they have friendly support bears that are standing by 24
57:23 hours a day in case you have any trouble they've got five million users and you
57:27 get to try it out for free tunnel bear gives you 500 megabytes of data for free
57:31 every month and an extra Gig if you tweet at them so if you need more data
57:36 prices for unlimited plans start at $6.99 a month pretty darn reasonable
57:41 download it today and start browsing privately at tunnel bear.com
57:47 LTT all right what else do we have on the
57:51 uh what else do we have on the docket for today MIT researchers have built a
57:57 file system that doesn't lose data to a
58:00 crash and by the way our last news article was oh it looks like our
58:05 original posters on the Linus Tech tips Forum are actually missing today so this
58:10 one was posted by eiris that is a word with which I am not
58:15 familiar and the original article here is from
58:19 mit.edu which makes sense since it's going to be you know from that wait gosh
58:24 darn it there we go cra cash tolerant data storage so there's actually a lot
58:29 of different ways to lose data so when
58:33 you back when you back up or you store your data let's I'm not going to say
58:36 Backup backup has a very specific meaning when you store your data on a drive you write it there and then if all
58:42 goes according to plan then it should stay there
58:46 forever not actually a thing so aside from the drive dying physically file
58:51 systems themselves thanks to being
58:55 creative back at a time when we didn't even necessarily need these safeguards
58:59 sometimes an an NTFS is guilty of this
59:02 sometimes don't have the safeguards built in to prevent just random
59:08 degradation of the data over time also known as bit rot and here's the thing
59:13 writing data to a drive if the system crashes while the data is in flight then
59:19 that can often result in data loss as well so this doesn't do anything for bit
59:23 rot necessar oh wow there's still a what the what the crap there we go uh so this
59:29 doesn't necessarily do anything for bit Rod I'm actually not 100% sure if it
59:35 does address
59:38 that okay yep nope uh so you need to use
59:42 error checking and correction for that kind of thing so it doesn't address bit rot but what it does do is it makes it
59:47 so that you won't need you know an expensive battery backup for your
59:53 storage controller and a battery backup on the the PC outright to even have a
59:59 chance of not losing data while it's while it's in Flight while it's sitting
60:02 in cash no this allows you to no matter
60:06 no matter what when you're writing data not
60:10 lose uh like not not not lose it while
60:13 it's while it is in while the system crashes so very very cool stuff I mean
60:18 the thing about file systems is that it could take a decade to reach mainstream
60:24 acceptance and mainstream acceptance I mean what does
60:28 that even mean you know something like this is not even necessarily going to be
60:35 at all suitable like maybe five revisions down the road it's not going
60:39 to be suitable for mainstream use like as the file system you're using on your
60:42 boot drive at all because file systems can be optimized for a lot of different
60:47 things uh ZFS for example not great for
60:51 a boot Drive Great for long-term
60:54 archival storage that's what using because it does protect against uh
60:58 protect against bit rot for example so
61:02 there you go your data is safer and who
61:07 knows you know when that'll when that'll happen uh yeah all testing's been
61:12 positive so far but it should be noted that this hasn't been looked at outside
61:17 of MIT our next article was posted by and
61:22 I'm just waiting for the page to load here blipp BL
61:27 Ry and the original article here is from the verge.com and Google is developing a
61:33 GPS system that could help you avoid
61:37 potholes no not potheads
61:41 potholes holy actual crap they're going
61:44 to be you know doing something legitimately useful with oh is that a
61:48 game on badge do I need that for something this is what the official game
61:52 on badge looks like by the way I talked about that on the uh Intel thing so
61:55 basically Google has filed a patent which doesn't necessarily mean it's
61:59 getting productized anytime soon for a way to track pod holes across the United
62:03 States using your car's GPS navigation system and other sensors to detect
62:08 damaged portions of road so they'll put that information into a database then
62:12 use it to help you find a less bumpy
62:15 route so if you're worried about the suspension on your lowered vehicle this
62:20 technology could be for you although there's a number of other reasons why
62:24 you might you know want that uh say for
62:28 example um right you know taking the baby out for a drive to help her fall
62:33 asleep something that you know the dads out there will probably be able to
62:37 relate to it could be nice to have a you know smoother way to uh to go ahead and
62:42 drive down the road so basically Google would be monitoring the vibrations your
62:46 car is subjected to when you Rumble over a pothole and then cross referencing
62:50 that with GPS data uh something that's you know pretty pretty standard these
62:55 days days so by doing this many different times in many different cars
63:00 Google would be actually be able to pinpoint where the potholes are and this
63:07 is not necessarily even just a
63:10 technology for like manually driven cars in fact I see the usefulness there
63:15 pretty being pretty limited but this is the kind of thing that could be really
63:19 useful for a self-driven car I mean imagine that if self-driven cars without
63:24 even having to rely on cameras sensors could know where obstacles or or bumps
63:29 on the road are and automatically avoid them leaving the camera work to the
63:34 unexpected obstacles like a 2x4 that falls off the back of the truck in front
63:37 of you very cool looking technology and
63:40 I don't think I ever oh yeah I did did manage to bring that up I am uh I am
63:47 definitely definitely not at my best today I have like a splitting headache
63:52 from trying to troubleshoot this thing to which you might reply well gine this
63:55 maybe you should set up the show ahead of time you know what I filmed four
63:58 videos today my job isn't always like
64:02 you know just sitting around and eating bugs oh yeah teasing an upcoming Channel
64:08 super fun let me tell you guys it is
64:11 going to be freaking awesome it involves
64:15 pinball which you can't go wrong with and it involves eating
64:21 bugs yeah bugs eating bugs bugs get eat
64:25 eaten in the video by people so uh stay
64:29 tuned for that if you have not already subscribed to Channel Super Fun I am
64:33 quite certain that you're are going to want to uh you're going to want to get
64:37 on that get on that puppy all right uh
64:41 what else we what we got next oh there's a public beta now of Cartana for Android
64:46 this was originally posted by and I'll go ahead and wait for the thread to load
64:50 because the formatting of the uh of this
64:54 this dock is a little bit different this week we had we had Colton do it we had
64:58 the new guy we had the new guy do the formatting of the dock today so you know
65:03 things are a little broken he can't hear me everyone else has gone home for the
65:06 day because it's 6:30 which is 35 minutes after when we are normally
65:10 streaming the shelf so this was posted by Yami Yuki Senpai sene Senpai I don't
65:16 know my Japanese isn't that great and Microsoft Cortana for Android is ready
65:20 to take on Google now question mark I guess it depends on
65:26 who you ask so it's not currently
65:30 compatible with Android tablets it's us only at this time but it does support
65:35 some of the basic functionality that you would expect out of something like Google Now you can set tasks uh set
65:41 reminders you can make calls it browses the internet um it is more basic
65:49 compared to Google Now which has had a long time to get deeply integrated with
65:53 Android but promises to grow in features
65:56 in the future I mean here's something here's like kind of a crazy thing i' I'd
66:00 love to see like right now uh Google has kept Google Now for their own Android
66:05 Wear SmartWatches and wearables I would love to see Cortana take a more well a
66:11 more open approach which I mean it's not something Microsoft's really been known
66:15 for in the past but I'd love to see Cortana take a more open approach and go
66:19 okay you know hey we don't have a wearable platform yet anyway uh let's go
66:24 ahead and enable Cortana on Pebble time
66:28 for example cuz that was one of the big things that I missed about the gatr when
66:33 I was using the pebble time there's certain things I loved about it um you
66:37 know I love the multi-day battery life I've forgotten to charge my gat r a
66:41 couple times in the last couple weeks and it's kind of a pain in the butt when
66:44 you get used to having a watch you really do rely on it and having the
66:49 ability to just be like you know hey Pebble time or whatever however they
66:54 however they integrate it hey Cortana on my wrist and having my third party watch
66:59 be able to enable that kind of functionality for me would be great cuz I really did miss Google Now when I was
67:03 using the pebble time it already has some voice functionality that that works
67:08 quite well things like replying to text messages but it could use more and that
67:12 would that would really be a huge deal for Android and Pebble time for me
67:18 um what else so yeah if you guys want to try it then uh check it out at uh let me
67:23 see if I can find the site right now now real quick here uh blog entry by
67:28 Microsoft so it's on the blogs. Windows.com site uh I'll go ahead and
67:32 post that in the twitch chat I realize I've been totally forgetting to do that throughout the show today guys again I'm
67:38 sorry I am a little flustered today that is definitely definitely a thing Fable
67:47 Legends they keep on doing this I wish I
67:52 was wearing my keep on digging shirt today because this is like I don't know
67:58 on the one on the okay on the one hand I kind of go this is like the biggest
68:03 piece of news for me this week and on the other hand I
68:07 go Microsoft screwing up gaming on the PC is this even news should I even be
68:12 covering this Fable Legends PC will be
68:16 exclusive to Windows 10 exclusive to the
68:19 Windows 10 store so until recently been
68:23 blah blah blah no direct mention of how Fable Legend would be released on PC
68:27 other than that it was Windows 10 exclusive now we know a little bit more
68:30 about what that means and this is really funny because Microsoft came out and was
68:35 like yeah you know Steam and like PC gaming and like how great that is now we
68:40 know okay it's exclusive to Windows 10
68:43 for no apparent reason who directx12 it
68:47 would have been really hard to turn down some graphical details and have it work with direct X1 blah um so we already
68:53 knew that but what we don't what we didn't know is that you will not be able
68:57 to buy it on Steam we are getting games
69:00 for Windows Live but like
69:04 worse and now Windows 10 exclusivity
69:11 and yeah
69:15 blah I just I I just don't even I just I
69:19 just I just don't even so now we've got like remember when steam was remember
69:25 okay I don't know if you guys ever had this moment but I pirated a lot of video
69:30 games tons of video games the vast
69:33 majority of my video game library either came with the purchase of Hardware
69:38 because I spent all my money on hardware and then kept the free games and flipped
69:43 the hardware and was like always upgrading so either came with Hardware
69:47 or was pirated when I was in high school that was just how it was sorry game
69:51 developers of that time steam changed
69:55 everything for me having a One-Stop shop
69:58 with no additional DRM with um no CD
70:03 keys to keep track of and enter in things and being able to drag and drop
70:09 install my games just by backing them up on at the time I guess it would have
70:12 been backing them up on DVDs and then being able to just drag and drop the
70:16 files off a DVD instead of going through an installer with a bunch of stupid CDs
70:20 for no apparent reason and like a bunch of you know game Cals it's like oh what
70:24 a breath of fresh air steam was steam turned me
70:29 legit and now it's like the game
70:32 developers in their desire to not give valve a cut which I understand are just
70:38 killing it they're killing what was great about it what converted me and I
70:42 think a lot of people into paying customers they're killing it the entire
70:46 ecosystem is so fragmented now steam
70:49 origin you play good old games which is
70:52 now I don't know I think they TD project red renamed it something I can't even
70:56 remember what they might still be good I I don't I don't I don't I don't care and
71:00 now we're going to have to shop for triaa titles like proper PC games
71:06 although you could make the argument that Fable hasn't been good in a long time proper PC games we're going to have
71:10 to shop for them in the Windows store I mean is this is this it's funny is this
71:14 Microsoft cluing in that you know Gamers and gaming have D driven a huge part of
71:20 the the Windows success outside of corporate is is that is are we getting a
71:24 nod at least for that like Hey so uh the
71:27 the Windows store is a total Ghost Town um right exclusive games Gamers Gamers
71:34 will will they'll go anywh they'll even go to they'll even go to origin and you
71:38 play to get their content I mean the kinds of problems we have had with
71:41 origin and you play around here let me tell you if people are willing to use
71:44 those turds then I mean who knows maybe maybe this will all just be no big deal
71:50 and it being Windows store exclusive
71:53 will everyone will just completely accepted so so Microsoft rep says they
71:57 are not trying to compete with steam whatever whatever that means um
72:06 yeah uh what else we got
72:12 today wow more bad news for popcorn time
72:16 uh this was posted by and I'll have that for you in a second this was posted by
72:21 Ry on the Forum and this is some seriously bad bad news for popcorn time
72:27 users uh 75,000 Popcorn Time users will be
72:32 getting a surprise in the mail this fall
72:35 after the rights Alliance claimed it has gathered data on 51 to
72:43 75,000 users of the site uh it's the
72:47 okay so the rights Alliance is legally allowed to monitor people it suspects to
72:51 be pirating however monitoring IP addresses is one thing it we need to go
72:54 through the courts to be allowed to collaborate with isps to obtain the
72:57 names and addresses behind
73:01 them um so it's not exactly 100%
73:06 clear what they're going to do with it but that being said it has made progress
73:10 in the last month despite the obstacles making arrests in Denmark after two men
73:14 were found to be explaining how to use popcorn time on their sites
73:21 so all right email addresses but not
73:24 necessarily the real names of people and we'll see how that whole thing is going
73:29 to go uh Tesla driver set a new record so
73:34 this was uh two Norwegian guys the original article here is from fortune.com and this was posted on the
73:39 Forum by I will get that for you in a moment but first let's pop up the
73:43 article here so they set a new record I
73:46 don't know if you guys have heard of hypermiling before but basically it's
73:50 the I don't know I guess hobby of taking cars and trying to achieve neverbe seen
73:56 uh mileage ratings well not it's not a rating cuz the ratings is the rating but
74:00 neverbe seen mileage out of these
74:03 vehicles so these guys set a new record they drove a Model S for
74:09 452 miles so that times about 1.3 so
74:13 what what is that in kilometers like 6 or 700 and something something along
74:18 those lines for our uh for our metric viewers out there absolutely fantastic I
74:23 mean electric cars are developing in
74:27 multiple ways both the creative ways that people are using them now to be
74:30 clear they weren't driving it in a particularly practical way so they drove
74:35 at a speed of 24.2 Miles hour in order to achieve that
74:39 range but the technolog is advancing and
74:42 the way that people are using them seems to be advancing it took them a total
74:46 time of 18 hours and 40 minutes to run
74:51 out of battery life so with with that said it's not like okay remember the
74:57 speed it's not like they actually went that far but uh still still very very
75:02 cool I mean they did go that far but they didn't they didn't they didn't
75:05 drive for 18 hours at you know 100 kilometers an hour or whatever you know
75:10 they're driving like 35 kilm an hour so
75:13 not not necessarily that uh that
75:17 practical
75:20 um tashiba figures this is this is some pretty cool stuff TBA figures that
75:26 128 terabyte ssds will hit the market in
75:30 2018 now to be clear that doesn't mean
75:33 that you will be buying and using a 128bit SSD or excuse me a 128 terabyte
75:40 SSD in the year 2018 but that does mean
75:44 that they believe that those capacities will become commercially available three
75:51 years from now if I am the hard drive
75:54 guys this kind of stuff is absolutely
75:58 terrifying now to be clear they're not achieving this you know merely through
76:03 Moors law and you know better manufacturing processes smaller
76:07 manufacturing processes they are going to need some additional chip they're
76:12 going to need chips they are going to need more chips they're going to need
76:15 some additional tricks so they're going to be doing quad level cells qlc so that
76:22 is storing more bits per cell and
76:26 um 3D Nan flash which has already hit production and has already demonstrated
76:31 that it will be able to scale in terms of capacity without necessarily seeing
76:36 that huge increase in in uh in in area
76:39 that is taken up by more traditional non-3d nand designs so 2D nand designs
76:45 um you can go ahead and check this out so they've actually got a pretty pretty
76:49 cool little like scary to hard drive makers makers graph here now this is
76:53 this is interesting so when I talk about not being cost effective look 16
76:57 terabytes they have that on they have that in 2015 can you afford a 16 tab SSD I
77:03 personally cannot um so you know they're comparing
77:06 that to 10 terab hard drives also not affordable so we're talking about
77:09 potentially you know Enterprise grade Hardware like archival storage ssds or
77:15 some crap like that but they're basically saying look hard drive
77:18 capacities you know might reach you know
77:22 somewhere in the 20 to 40 terab range uh
77:26 we can do several times that absolutely
77:35 awesome this is great kit gur also has another really great point at the bottom
77:40 of the uh at the bottom of the article here and while it may be possible to
77:44 create a 128 terab solid state drive uh you won't actually be able to build a
77:48 lot of them either because manufacturing capacities like how many chips we can
77:53 even make worldwide will be constrained so they'll be sold only to select
77:57 customers and will hardly reach the mass Market 3 years from now very good point
78:01 as well so I think that pretty much
78:04 wraps up the show today thank you guys very much for tuning in I'm going to go
78:09 ahead and uh roll that intro in a minute here I really do apologize for the
78:13 technical difficulties today was a very challenging day and I appreciate you
78:17 guys bearing with me here um in case
78:20 you're wondering where Luke was I realized now I never even addressed that
78:23 he is down at p Prime I'm actually going to be down there tomorrow hanging out at
78:26 the Intel booth and shooting some other stuff as well so I will hopefully see
78:30 some of you there and uh definitely do go say hi to Luke and Brandon if you see
78:34 them on the show floor Nick's there too and uh I'll be bringing Taran down with
78:37 me but I think he's going to be cloistered in like a in a hotel room
78:41 somewhere editing videos so I don't know if you'll necessarily run into him see
78:45 you guys next week same bat Time same bat Channel
