0:00 finally our 390x video is here ASUS was
0:03 nice enough to hand us over a beautiful stxs Edition card and it's time to see
0:07 if the rumors are true is this just a rebadged 9 uh 290x with a bunch of more
0:13 RAM stay tuned to find out and heat up that like button down below if you'd
0:17 like to see us test GPU boost using six Titan
0:28 X's freshbooks is the super simple invoicing solution that lets you get
0:32 organized save time and get paid faster
0:35 click now to learn more starting with the good stuff we've got performance for
0:39 the actual GPU core the ASUS STX 390x is
0:43 running at 1,070 MHz in gaming mode and
0:47 1090 MHz in OC mode for memory you've
0:51 got a somewhat classic 512-bit memory interface and 6 GHz of memory clock all
0:57 pushing the upgraded 8 GB of gddr5
1:01 compared to the 290x is 4 GB for iio
1:04 you've got one DVID one HDMI and three full-size DisplayPort connection so no
1:10 surprises there on the bottom of the card you've got a standard PCIe 16x gen
1:14 3 slot to plug into your motherboard and in the top left hand corner it's Barron
1:19 as AMD has been cross-firing their cards directly through the motherboard for a
1:23 while now so no longer is uh Crossfire fingers needed and in the top right hand
1:28 corner you have a six pin and eight pin PCIe power connector just to fuel your
1:32 card moving to the back of the card we have a glimpse of what most of you will
1:36 be actually seeing in your case if you go with this card on one side you have a
1:40 grid of hexagon holes for which realistically there are more aesthetic
1:45 reasons than anything else on the other side you have the STX Face logo thing
1:50 and near the top of the card you have the ASUS and STX logos both in type face
1:54 we can also see just how damn tall the card is the cart's dimensions are 11.8
1:59 in long 5.44 in tall and 1.7 in in depth
2:04 which make it tall but almost more notable than that is the measurement of
2:09 length there's a fair amount of cases on the market right now that only support a
2:12 maximum of 11 in for a GPU and this card
2:15 simply wouldn't fit be careful and just check your compatibility first you'll be
2:19 okay on the top of the card we have some cool aesthetic styling a back lit
2:23 stricks logo a little bit of thermal performance show off with one of their
2:26 heat pipes coming for a pass outside the bounds of the regular shroud moving to
2:31 the front of the card we get a better look at the direct cu3 cooler with its
2:35 dual direct touch 10 mm massive heat pipes that you can actually better see
2:39 on the bottom cooling this big heat pipe and finer are triple Wing blade fans
2:44 which are designed to push more pressure from the edge of the fan in order to
2:48 increase maximum air flow with a little extended Edge on the end of the fan
2:52 blade so you know the performance specs and we know it's a beast at cooling what
2:57 about its actual performance well I have to address one claim right off the bat
3:01 they say that their zero DB gaming mode which is playing games with the fans not
3:06 spinning is a big thing but I needed to test that and to be honest they're right
3:11 League of Legends Starcraft 2 and even World of Warcraft to a certain degree
3:15 can take advantage of this feature but don't expect this to work with every
3:19 game in your library once the load picks up those fans will start spinning which
3:23 don't get me wrong is a really good thing in terms of actual performance
3:27 yeah it's faster than a 290x uh at least our sample but comparing two drastically
3:32 different aftermarket cards gets a little weird as Factory clocks are
3:36 different all in all this card is better than our 290x sample but still trades
3:40 blows with our 980 not really the performance I was hoping for when the
3:45 390x was announced overclocking okay this was a little
3:50 rough considering it stock load temperatures was 83° already with the
3:54 fans on auto I didn't expect I'd have much more Headroom keeping the fans on
3:59 auto and I did not I was able to get the
4:02 core to 1130 and the memory to 1530 which is an increase just not much of
4:06 one but if it was a particularly hot day
4:09 I bet the card would have been unstable it was fine on my bench right now but a
4:13 little bit more ambient temperature and we might have had some problems in
4:16 conclusion just like the 290x this is a
4:19 hot card and unfortunately just like the 290x it's still trading blows with the
4:24 GTX 980 sure it's cheaper than the 980
4:27 but if we want to play that game you should probably just go for a 290x or a
4:31 290 anyways looking on newegg.com a 290x
4:35 is about $100 cheaper and a 290 is even cheaper than that they're within the
4:39 same kind of performance envelope what do you guys think thanks for watching
4:42 guys if this video sucked you know what to do but if it was awesome get subscribed hit that like button or even
4:48 consider supporting us directly by using our affiliate code to shop on Amazon I
4:52 believe they have some crazy sale thing going on right now or buying a cool
4:55 t-shirt that has our logo on it or with a directly monthly contribution through
4:59 the community Forum which makes me all happy and stuff now that you're doing
5:03 all that stuff you're probably wondering what to watch next so click the button in the little top right hand corner here
5:08 to check out a video where I look at the NVIDIA Shield Android TV Edition
