0:00 you might say our 16k gaming project was
0:03 a massive success well you might say that if you measure
0:08 success purely by how many views something gets
0:11 on youtube because the usability of that
0:14 thing left a lot to be desired we know
0:18 so ever since we first unveiled it we've
0:21 been waiting for the right moment
0:25 and perhaps more importantly the right hardware to bring it back to life better
0:30 than ever with hopefully a decent
0:34 actual gaming experience this time and that day
0:38 thank you Jake has arrived
0:42 lg sponsored this video and sent over
0:45 nine of their flagship curved
0:48 ultra wide monitors so all we need to do now then is uh
0:54 go see how the old setup has survived its long slumber here in the storage
1:00 unit holy crap
1:05 this thing is uh scenes of better days eh this is a freaking mess
1:12 i mean the good news is most of the wiring is still in place but like
1:17 even the underside is that dirty
1:23 all right so let's get this uh let's get this cleaned up
1:26 for redeployment here
1:37 as many many of you pointed out the 4x4
1:42 arrangement of monitors in 16k gaming made the majority of games pretty much
1:47 impossible to play because any kind of
1:50 crosshair ended up being hidden behind
1:53 the bezels right in the middle of our display array
1:57 and the abominable frame rates didn't help
2:00 either i mean even though we were running four quadro p5000s one for each
2:06 of our four rows of monitors last time and those are about equivalent to gtx
2:11 1080s but with 16 gigs of video memory
2:15 almost every game ran into some sort of
2:18 processing or memory bottleneck it was
2:22 just it was just too many pixels csgo wouldn't even run
2:27 fortunately though a couple of months ago NVIDIA's quadro team
2:33 launched the gv100 a 9 000
2:38 beast of a workstation GPU and they
2:41 graciously lent us
2:44 a few of them so now we're cooking with gas baby these
2:49 puppies have about 2.93 times the
2:53 transistor count so they are much more powerful and they each come with 32 gigs
3:00 of high-speed hbm2 memory okay so first
3:04 things first we need a system thank you that is worthy
3:09 of those graphics cards so i wanted to use the 7900x but
3:15 the last one we had didn't survive a d-lid so we're using a 7960x instead
3:20 poor us first world problem i guess so the clock speeds are a little bit
3:24 lower on this one but let's be realistic here i mean even in this new
3:28 configuration every card is still running the pixel
3:32 count equivalent of a 5k display so the
3:36 bottleneck is still going to be the gpus
3:39 and not the CPU for our motherboard ASUS sent over their
3:44 rampage six extreme which is going to be paired with naturally
3:50 128 gigs of vengeance RGB ddr4 memory
3:54 wow this receipt is uh
3:59 is getting a few more zeros on it here then i had really hoped good thing of
4:03 course serenacious graciously provided these things and then for power the
4:07 obvious choice was Corsair's ax 1600i
4:12 with some sexy cablemod pro style cables
4:15 to match our icy table now cooling
4:19 is actually surprisingly not a huge concern since our desk pc case is quite
4:25 open for the gpus and we're not going to be overclocking our CPU so we're going
4:30 to be using an nhd15 now then
4:34 it's time for the monitors as i mentioned earlier the gaming downside of
4:40 even-numbered monitor grids easily outweighs any advantage so a 3x3 grid
4:46 looked like our best option because 5x5 was just not going to be a thing
4:51 but rather than simply do a 12k setup which
4:55 was our original plan to make the rig somewhat playable we opted to try
5:00 something new so these
5:05 are lg's 34 uc 99w
5:09 these are 3440 by 1440 curved ips ultra
5:15 wides they've got usb type-c input and
5:18 freesync and this is cool they run it up to 75 hertz
5:24 so any less demanding games we might be able to get even more than 60 FPS
5:30 the aesthetic here actually helps our cause a lot too check this out even the
5:35 bottom bezel is not much bigger than the
5:38 sides in the top now this is less of an issue in a standard desktop
5:43 configuration but when you start stacking them it
5:47 makes a huge difference quite literally
5:52 huge and holy sh
5:56 that curve hey
6:00 there we go i don't know why this one's all weird okay your scaling is a little
6:03 uh little wonktastic there got that big
6:07 start button and that small start why do they all have a start menu uh mosaic is
6:12 not up yet so we need to configure mosaic okay make it one big display oh
6:17 we can play some games this is beautiful
6:21 i just love standing right here like the sound of my voice echoes back
6:25 at me and video why you do okay there we go there we go
6:29 and then the last piece of puzzle bezel correct bezel correction cool okay so
6:34 here what we're doing is we're trying to align the road here that's not bad
6:37 actually no it's not even close you need like 100 pixels what do you mean not
6:41 even close no that's off you're too far no stop stop stop stop you can't look at
6:45 just one of them no it's not look at them you can look at whichever
6:48 angle it's a little bit too far on that one but it's not far enough on a couple of i
6:53 see which means you can do it per month because the monitors aren't aligned
6:56 perfectly yeah like so basically because Jake done goofed
7:01 aren't you just so hyped to play games yeah too bad NVIDIA says no games these are
7:07 cool drones these are not for gaming
7:10 professionals have patience you're kidding
7:14 the professionals getting paid to set this up are getting paid by the hour anyway what do they care
7:19 wow i get to really drive Jake pull me
7:23 uh we broke another tech accessory out of the uh moth balls upstairs this is
7:28 our obato revolution cockpit with a logitech g920 racing wheel that is going
7:34 through its uh pre-flight calibration here
7:38 and we've got a shifter because Jake assumes that i know how to drive manual
7:43 don't you which i do yes yeah right no the lambo's manual
7:47 okay so i stalled do you not know how to drive i know how to drive manual
7:52 how do you research how do i restart the car whoa he's doing it
7:57 oh oh no my shifter moved
8:02 you got a downshift don't go downshift
8:08 super duper smooth it's fine that's okay i'm pretty good at
8:12 overwatch i've never played overwatch okay
8:17 it's basically team fortress 2 though right okay like it's a little different
8:20 oh yeah oh yeah there's like 30 heroes oh yeah everybody they all have unique
8:25 things whereas oh look at that you've got an endorsement for being a good teammate
8:31 they dropped right but i have to be in the emoji shoot your left shift at the
8:35 at the door there my what left shift
8:38 see they're going to come and kill you right oh man you're going to die
8:47 that was nuts oh my god
8:51 so worth wow oh come on click your e damn it
8:58 yes minus is good at overwatch who knew
9:03 does anyone know how to tell if someone's on my team nobody's on your team
9:06 remember we talked about this oh so this is like this is like complete
9:10 free-for-all yeah oh like you're gonna get you're gonna
9:13 get destroyed like oh okay so i just need to hide
9:17 right here forever okay well that's not interesting like
9:22 okay that's sort of left i guess jackass
9:26 all the way left all right whatever this doesn't run that well so let's try something else
9:29 look at that this is 75 so they're i want to try 100 hertz but i think that's
9:34 out of it gorgeous all right okay do we have anything else
9:38 to try can it run crisis
9:41 law okay what graphic settings are we at whoa that low that system spec low that
9:46 texture low we're not even trying to like run it
9:49 well then hey no all right
9:53 we're at 48 FPS and we haven't even actually rendered anything other than a
9:57 black screen with some green text on it yet in this game this game is very
10:00 optimized okay
10:12 oh so it's just the other character models that get completely like your gun
10:16 is strong your hand is like high quality i don't
10:19 know oh wow wait what just happened there
10:23 how did i not fall down you just like searched it
10:27 those guys oh forget it
10:34 where are you going oh my goodness isn't this where i'm supposed to go oh oh oh
10:38 oh oh and we're done okay as much as we love using enterprise
10:44 grade hardware for unconventional things like gaming NVIDIA did ask us
10:50 very nicely to talk about what these cards are actually made for so
10:55 uh have you ever seen the multi-hundred-foot video walls in places
10:59 like times square or in tokyo or while
11:02 watching your favorite sports teams live well they're usually made up of many
11:07 smaller displays like our setup here and
11:10 even though they're intended to be viewed from far away so their pixel
11:13 density is comparatively low like all these look great from even just a couple
11:18 feet away their overall resolution can
11:21 get very high along with their demand for video memory
11:25 and processing power and of course the images all need to be synchronized even
11:30 if you're just playing back video so the sync card would come in handy there
11:33 and for a more apples to apples look at the processing power improvements
11:39 because gaming at different resolutions it doesn't really mean anything we tried
11:44 out chronos's v-ray ray tracing benchmark and found that it actually
11:49 runs in half the time compared to our last setup
11:54 and bear in mind guys we are running one
11:57 fewer actual graphics card in this setup
12:02 so that's pretty much it now we just got to pack this thing up
12:06 and take it to ltx oh yeah
12:09 so huge huge thank you to lg for making this project happen if you guys like
12:14 what you saw from these monitors you can pick one up or nine at the link in the video
12:18 description or if you want even more pixels stay tuned because lg is
12:23 launching their new 5k ultrawide nano ips display soon so
12:28 you can check out the link to that or just google lg ultrawide for more
12:31 information on their latest ultra wide displays
12:36 thanks for watching guys if you disliked then you clearly hate technology but if
12:40 you like hit like get subscribed or maybe consider checking out where to buy the stuff we featured at the link below
12:45 also down there is our merch store which has cool shirts like this one and our
12:48 community forum which you should definitely join
12:53 how's it going there uh not great we're running bastion we just can't
12:58 they just can't oh did i get more kills than you oh
13:02 yeah yeah look my team one elim is gold
13:07 that shows you how long my team is playing right now
