0:07 okay guys so we're here in the new store there's actually construction going on
0:11 in the background so I apologize if you can't hear me that well but we've got
0:15 another Samsung TV to unbox here this is their Smart TV 8000 Class LED back lit
0:21 LCD TV this is a 60in TV this is going
0:24 to be the centerpiece of this new
0:28 Samsung showcase store so it's actually going to go right there as you walk in
0:32 the door it'll be the first thing you see and that is for a very good reason
0:37 it's got all of the most advanced features that Samsung offers including
0:40 their 960 clear motion rate which is
0:44 sort of a combination between the refresh rate of the panel which is still
0:48 120 HZ and then the way that they process the image and modulate the
0:52 backlight in order to achieve what Samsung is saying is a perceived
0:58 960 imagees per second motion rate it's
1:02 a smart TV with full support for
1:05 3D oops oh this is a much bigger piece of star bone than I thought it was uh
1:10 with full support for 3D as well as all of their Smart TV features including
1:14 AllShare which allows you to easily share content in media from mobile
1:19 devices such as your tablet or your smartphone uh as long as they are part
1:23 of the Samsung ecosystem here we've got the mount adapter which we're going to
1:27 have a look closer look at in a minute when we actually mount the
1:31 TV in terms of the other specs it's got an ultra clear panel it's got Mega
1:35 contrast ratio micro dimming which actually someone bought one of these TVs
1:40 in our Vancouver store the other day and it was because he was looking for the
1:43 micro dimming feature which Samsung says without halo effect allows you to
1:49 achieve deeper blacks and brighter
1:54 whites and see the details without I mean I've
1:57 seen I've seen TVs with localized dimming in fact my TV has localized
2:02 dimming but honestly it's not that great because it takes a very substantial
2:06 chunk of the panel and brightens it or dims it um which because I'm using mine
2:11 as an as an htpc is very disruptive to my entertainment experience because as
2:15 soon as I go to my desktop which is black the whole TV goes and then as soon
2:20 as I open up content it's like it gets way brighter so it's kind of frustrating
2:23 that way but their micro dimming feature says that they can do that in much
2:26 smaller areas which means it'll be less disruptive here here the base which you
2:30 can see is an almost seamless piece of
2:34 metal so there's a little plastic piece here that forms the bottom and then the
2:38 top is one piece on this side which has a little seam here and then one piece on
2:43 the other side which has a little sort of seam right there so we're going to go
2:47 ahead and put this I don't know which way the TV goes on here but I'm going to
2:51 assume the rounded part is in the back I'm going to put this down here and then
2:55 let's see if I can actually even reach the accessories here so in terms of
2:59 accessory we've got the documentation which includes all your warranty and all
3:02 that info on the one side and then on
3:05 the okay we're going to have to pull out the TV first to find the accessories so
3:09 give me a minute here I got to get cameraman to help me with this I don't want to lay the panel down or anything
3:13 like that so give me a sec okay so we extracted the accessories here guys and
3:18 we've got a number of things we've got a power oh wow check that out I don't even
3:23 see a power brick so that means in this slim design TV they actually integrated
3:27 the power uh converter that's
3:30 outstanding actually okay we've also got
3:33 composite input adapter a component
3:36 input adapter so if you're using any Legacy devices that uh require an analog
3:41 signal to go out to your highly Advanced TV then you know you can do that these
3:45 are for the Vasa Mount to provide a little bit of structural rigidity and
3:48 then that looks like a cable management thing with some adhesive on the back and
3:52 here is the far cooler part so we've got the included four AAA batteries that
3:57 you're going to need for this and this is is Samsung's smart TV compatible full
4:04 quiry remote control so check this out so the thickness is actually fairly
4:09 thick okay it's quite substantial but there's a lot of electronics in here so
4:12 I can kind of understand that so on this side you see all your standard volume up
4:16 volume down Smart Hub menu blah blah blah and then the other side oh bam for
4:20 use pairing with TV is needed okay and then there's instructions for pairing
4:25 which a really oh no it's okay it's okay
4:29 because there's a plastic there's a plastic piece here that comes off okay
4:33 so there's a little screen here so you can see what you're typing and then we've got I was really disappointed I
4:38 was like really how could they have made such a major oversight so here is a full
4:42 querty key bad number pad as well as navigation buttons you can change your
4:46 input so you can actually choose which side of the remote you want to use and
4:51 look at that special characters and everything so this is going to be great
4:54 if you want to browse the web on your TV or uh you know search for YouTube videos
4:59 or um type anything on your TV it'll be
5:03 good to have a keypad pretty self-explanatory I think but it's neat
5:07 that they includ it that's not actually the only thing that Samsung includes
5:10 with this 8000 series TV you're ruining the unveiling you're looking at it
5:14 before I can it's okay aha so this is the sort of the
5:22 pitch for this TV check this out Samsung calls this their onesign bezel I have no
5:28 idea what they mean by one um maybe they
5:31 mean 1 cm that looks like about a centimeter but it's possible that's not
5:36 what they mean at all um but basically this is ha I'm going to pull out the old
5:40 iPhone thickness comparison this bezel
5:44 is not much thicker than an iPhone it's
5:47 not as thick as two iPhones it's so thin
5:50 that basically when cameraman and I were pulling it out of the box we couldn't
5:54 even figure out where to grip the TV because normally I would try to put most
5:59 of the pressure on the bezel I couldn't even couldn't even touch it um oh yeah I
6:03 wanted to talk about the other thing they include so Samsung includes uh two
6:07 pairs of their high-end super lightweight 3D Active 3D shutter glasses
6:11 with this TV so let's go ahead and open that up I'll just model this for you
6:17 guys taped together okay so it'll look kind of something like
6:21 this do that not do that not a good look for me whatever we have these on demo in
6:25 the new Vancouver store so you can you can check them out if you so desire what
6:29 the the selling point of these guys is is that they're much lighter weight than
6:33 existing other uh 3D glasses on the
6:36 market they're they're actually really really light and uh there and they don't
6:40 look quite as stupid although they you know they don't look great either 3D
6:44 glasses that's just what we have to live with so guys give me a sec I'm going to
6:47 get this onto the stand so we can see it in all of its glory and
6:51 magnificence well there's no doubt it's a thing of beauty I just checked my
6:54 notes there's a couple things I did miss so I did miss the wide color enhancer
6:58 plus feature that is an on this particular TV and then also the hybrid
7:03 3D engine so this is the processor that's built into this TV that actually
7:08 allows you to dynamically convert on the- fly any 2D content into
7:13 stereoscopic 3D which is great because it actually works if you guys checked
7:17 out my video on Samsung's uh 800 series
7:21 U monitor for your PC I actually did a
7:25 video on my ncic channel where I talked
7:29 about that particular technology is actually outstanding so there's no
7:32 performance hit to whatever it is that you're feeding the signal into the TV
7:36 with so you don't need a more powerful graphics card or anything like that to
7:39 play 3D games on this particular TV because all of the processing is done on
7:44 the Fly by your TV so I think that's pretty much it in terms of General
7:48 features but yeah it's pretty nice
7:51 looking don't forget guys if you do want to check it out in person you can see
7:54 this TV at our Vancouver store on Broadway our new Vancouver store on
7:58 Broadway and then you can also check it out in the new abine store that's going
8:02 to be right next to the old abine store that will still be there uh let's check
8:05 out what it's got in terms of inputs and outputs and we're on totally the wrong side of the TV for that look at this
8:10 from the back it's like a reasonably nice finish you know no plastic or
8:13 anything like that looks good okay let's go over into the other side so we can
8:17 see what we got in terms of inputs and outputs and here you take that angle and
8:21 I'll stand up here so we've got one two
8:24 three USB ports with this one optimized for hard drive uh because remember this
8:28 is a smart TV digital audio out optical
8:31 we've got four hdmis with one for DVI
8:35 and this one's for Arc okay AVN it's right here so that's
8:40 your component uh and then PC so that's
8:43 your VGA down there antenna in there's your composite input with audio out
8:48 xlink and land so smart TVs they do want
8:51 land so you're going to want like a power line adapter or a wireless bridge
8:55 of some sort in order to get a network connection to this TV so you can take
8:59 advant advantage of all those features you know your Skype your Twitter your
9:02 Facebook etc etc and your full
9:06 querty remote control and I think that pretty much
9:11 covers it so thank you for checking out uh this little Showcase of Samsung's
9:14 8000 series 60-in LED backlit LCD TV
