0:00 we don't always get near immediate availability of non-reference designs
0:04 from NVIDIA's Partners when they launch a new GPU but in the case of the GeForce
0:08 GTX 980 G1 gaming it's a bit of a
0:12 mouthful from Gigabyte it's a good thing we
0:21 did Corsair gaming RGB keyboards feature
0:25 Precision cherrymx RGB key switches for 16.8 million color per key backlighting
0:30 for virtually unlimited customization click now to learn more now usually with
0:35 a non-reference graphics card where the board manufacturer designs their own PCB
0:40 and cooler for the GPU they buy from NVIDIA we run through the normal stuff
0:44 improved vrm designs for more stable efficient power delivery and a longer
0:48 lifespan better cooler designs for lower car temperatures and a longer lifespan
0:53 and visual improvements that most folks will either prefer or not prefer
0:58 compared to a reference board but in the case of the gtx980 G1 gaming from
1:02 Gigabyte seriously I got to stop saying that they have actually made some
1:06 serious improvements here that would make me consider this card over an
1:10 NVIDIA designed one we'll start with the stuff that I only sort of liked the
1:15 windforce cooler with its three redesigned 80mm fans looks pretty good I
1:20 think Gigabyte could improve this in a couple ways um while the random chunk of
1:24 metal that increased card height for no reason is thankfully gone from the older
1:28 windforce cards leaving behind a sleek housing and the back plate is gorgeous
1:32 with angular vent cutouts and a surprisingly tasteful g1i on it that
1:37 windforce logo at the top needs to be RGB since blue isn't even going to match
1:41 Gigabyte's own G1 series motherboards and the aluminum fins for the cooler
1:46 need to be dark nickel plated Gigabyte does that and they'll have the best
1:49 looking cooler on the market to go along with their quoted 600 watts of total
1:55 heat dissipation a number that I truly believe based on what Luke observed
2:00 about the power consumption of this card once we cranked it and the temps of the
2:04 GPU not to mention that it did all of this while remaining pretty darn quiet
2:08 now we can move on to the stuff that kicks ass the io on this board is
2:12 perfect Flawless Victory Gigabyte triple
2:16 DisplayPort 1.2 ports for surround gaming with g-sync or at resolutions
2:22 higher than 1440 60p off a single card
2:25 and HDMI 2.0 and dual dual link DVI
2:29 ports for f with non-DisplayPort monitors to run surround as well you can
2:33 even hook up a VGA monitor with a couple scent adapter thanks to the fact that
2:38 one of the DVI ports is dvii and Carries
2:41 an analog signal this is the new IO gold
2:45 standard guys speaking of gold standards Gigabyte is calling out their processor
2:50 binning procedure in their marketing materials now that's a weird move their
2:55 name for it is GPU Gauntlet sorting and
2:58 they're claiming that their s so or super overclock class cards will
3:03 guarantee higher overclocking capabilities seriously this is right off
3:07 their site I guess how much truth there is to this remains to be seen But if
3:12 their shipping clock speeds or anything to go by this one is rated at 1329 MHz
3:16 boost maybe there's something to it now
3:19 of course there's the usual gtx980 technology so along with GeForce
3:24 experience uh Shadow play game recording game stream network gaming on Shield
3:27 devices and automatic game optimization and Driver updates NVIDIA has added
3:31 third generation Delta color compression to make better use of memory bandwidth
3:35 Dynamic super resolution a way of running less demanding gains at higher
3:39 res than down sampling them to the resolution of your monitor for better
3:42 visuals mfaa a new less demanding
3:45 anti-aliasing mode and auto asynchronous warp a VR feature that should improve
3:50 the experience for users of the Oculus Rift or similar head tracking
3:53 head-mounted displays who are prone to motion sickness you can get more
3:57 in-depth explanations of these Technologies in reference gtx980 video
4:01 linked here but now it's time to put
4:04 this card to the test as usual we'll be overclocking not only the gtx980 G1
4:10 gaming but also all the cards it's going up against so we shall see how it fares
4:16 all right guys first up we have overclocking to see the settings for all
4:19 of my cards check out the overclocking dock in the description of this video
4:23 this card specifically was configured an afterburner with a core voltage offset
4:28 of 70 a power liit of 122% a core clock offset of 160 and a
4:34 temperature Target of 91 which resulted in its actual core clock averaging
4:38 around 1531 to 1561 in terms of
4:42 benchmarking results I was happy to see that the extra overclocking Headroom
4:45 Allowed by this card gave it enough of an advantage to achieve a clear win in
4:49 all of my gaming benchmarks in both 1080P and 4K and upon further expection
4:55 I noted that it did this while maintaining a heavy load running
4:58 temperature of only 70° C the power draw
5:01 on the other hand was a little bit surprising instead of being drastically
5:05 lower than our reference 780 Ti like our reference 980 was this windforce cooled
5:10 extra power pins GTX 980 actually Drew more overall system power which may
5:15 suggest that Gigabyte is binning leakier chips for enthusiast grade cards
5:19 resulting in a higher potential performance at the cost of power
5:23 efficiency anyways just some food for thought and back to you L thanks Luke so
5:28 there you have it is the Gigabyte gtx980
5:31 G1 gaming an enthusiast's Delight do you
5:35 prefer gigabytes design that favors folks with high airflow cases and beefy
5:40 power supplies or would you rather have NVIDIA reference blower cooler that
5:45 exhausts air outside of the case and lower power consumption at the cost of
5:50 some GPU overclockability let us know in the comments speaking of the comments on
5:56 this video I know they're going to be chalk full of appreciation for today
5:59 sponsor little bits they're a brand new sponsor here online as Tech tips and we
6:04 think they have a pretty awesome concept and we know that many of you will agree
6:08 their goal is to lead a hardware Renaissance where everyone regardless of
6:13 age gender technical ability or discipline can be creative with
6:17 electronics they offer over 60 modules with a wide range of complexity their
6:21 simplest ones include power sensors and LEDs and then they range all the way up
6:25 to programmable Wireless capable modules with little bits you don't have to be an
6:29 expert to Tinker with electronics so no matter what background or skill level
6:33 you currently have they're going to have something for you and for lonus Tech
6:37 tips viewers they're offering a savings of 20 bucks off your first kit when you

6:52 offer thank you guys for watching this video on gigabytes G1 gaming GeForce GTX
6:57 980 super overclocked GTX graphics card
7:02 anyway sorry I got carried away with the longness of the name there like the
7:05 video if you liked it dislike it if you disliked it leave a comment letting me know if your feelings are more
