0:00 welcome to the third installment of a little segment we call Holy sh and
0:05 today it really is a holy moment isn't
0:08 it because this right here my friends this is a
0:14 battery the size of a man and this right here is all the other
0:20 crap that goes with it oh yeah and did I mention it cost us
0:27 $177,000 holy
0:39 tunnel bear is the easy to usee VPN service that lets you use the web as
0:43 though you are in one of 20 different countries learn more and try tunnel bear
0:47 for free at the link in the video description so we'll kick things off
0:52 with what the unboxing experience would be like for a
0:56 $117,000 my okay that's Canadian Rupees mind you but it's still a lot of money a
1:01 $177,000 battery backup this is the pw1
1:05 12s 12K dpd from Eon and it is part of
1:09 their 9170 plus line of formerly known
1:13 as power wear uninterruptible power supplies this baby
1:19 right here is a 12 unit chassis and you
1:23 can actually fill those units with power modules or battery modules depending on
1:28 whether you want to supply more power to the items that you want to back up or
1:32 whether you want the run time to be longer when the power goes out so the
1:38 one that we have is a 12 kilovolt amp
1:41 unit capable of delivering about 10,000
1:45 watts of power cuz we have filled it up with I believe it is four of their 3,000
1:50 kilovolt amp units and then we have filled the entire rest of this 12 12 Bay
1:56 chassis with battery backups allowing us to have this puppy run at full load for
2:03 I think something to the tune of 26 or 28 minutes Under full freaking 10,000
2:10 watt load or at half load for about an
2:14 hour before it actually needs to engage the software mechanisms that it has to
2:19 safely shut down all of our server components you might be asking yourself
2:22 lus you guys had a bunch of UPS units
2:25 what the devil happened with all of those why are you getting an additional
2:29 Tower UPS to uh to take their place well
2:33 we had some issues with the GE ones uh they were refurb units the batteries
2:38 problem something etc etc anyway we're not using them anymore and uh Johnny 2
2:43 our networking Guru guy recommended this
2:47 so we bit the bullet and went you know what with all the data loss scares we've
2:50 had lately and the issues that we've had with power outages in this area we've
2:54 had some serious storms we are not going to screw around anymore we're getting a
2:59 proper proper backup unit and this my friends
3:04 is what something like that might look like yeah I think this is
3:10 just just the chassis so it's actually bolted onto
3:16 this pallet no it is not it is not bolted onto the pallet so we should be
3:19 able to remove it fairly easily but let's take a look at the rear of it
3:23 first okay so at the top we've got a seral port as well as a couple of Bays
3:29 for Network modules one of which we got so it'll be able to communicate over the
3:32 network then we've got 12 and these each have their own 20 amp reset switches in
3:38 them so we've got 12 uh l14 30r Outlets
3:43 then we move down into the freaking like
3:46 heavy freaking duty stuff and we've got three l630r Outlets so those are these
3:51 three prong twisty locky ones right here and finally we have three more of the
3:56 l14 30r Quad quad prong Outlets going on
4:01 here so these puppies are for like super high draw 240 volt equipment that can
4:06 leverage the efficiency of the higher voltage in order to well be more
4:11 efficient so you you might find this in in like very high-end server gear we
4:15 will mostly be using these guys okay so
4:18 the first thing Johnny the network guy and I are going to do is uh move you
4:21 bastard should we twist it twist it this way yeah we should twist it move okay
4:27 awesome so this gives us a look at the front so here's where the uh the 12 like
4:32 Bay module things go in so you can actually see the interfaces at the back
4:36 here they have what look like like kind of smaller ATX power supply connectors
4:42 on them and then they have what looks like about a 24 26 pin um likely
4:48 proprietary connector back here and then a couple more little guys right here so
4:52 the cool thing about this modular system is you can actually put batteries or
4:56 power modules anywhere you want and then the back plane at the back sorts the
5:01 whole thing out you can actually even daisy chain multiples of these together
5:05 however I really don't think we're going to need more than 10,000 watts in our
5:09 server room um for the foreseeable future look at this user's
5:15 guide I mean I don't blame them I mean this thing is not your simple plug into
5:19 the wall and then hum up I guess it works just fine in fact with the 12,000
5:24 KT amp unit that we've got we had to wire up a completely separate ADM amp
5:30 breaker and then we have to hardwire this guy into that if you want to get
5:35 one of the bigger units the 12 or the 15 Kilt amp units you actually need here
5:39 check this out or the the 15 or the 18 you need a 100 amp or a 125 amp breaker
5:45 and then you have to have an electrician come in and wire the thing in I don't
5:49 know what these do well they make that noise I
5:55 guess so here's some more accessories these are
6:02 uh dads that go in
6:06 here that's not how they go on so I probably shouldn't force the
6:11 issue that is how they go on some of you are probably wondering what the point of
6:16 something like this is and here we'll we'll walk and talk we'll walk and talk so I'll take this over to where it's
6:20 going so the point of having a UPS unit that fully loaded is going to weigh
6:25 somewhere in the neighborhood of 600 to 700 lb is that it will not only o act as
6:32 a battery backup but will also actually
6:35 condition the power that is coming into our server room so because this is an
6:39 online double conversion UPS all of our
6:43 server gear will be running 100% of the time off of the batteries and because it
6:48 uses very very high quality inverters that isn't an issue like it would be
6:53 with a consumer grade UPS the other
6:56 benefit of double conversion online UPS
6:59 is is that in the event of a power outage there is absolutely zero delay
7:05 between oh wow thanks Johnny we don't want to run over that network cable
7:08 there is zero delay once the power goes out when it needs to when a when a
7:13 normal ups like a cheapo consumer grade one would actually have to switch
7:17 between AC power and battery power meaning that your equipment is never
7:21 subjected to that kind of stress which leads us very well to where we're going
7:25 to be installing it so Harry Potter thought he was getting an upgrade to his
7:30 closet when the contractors showed up but it was all a lie Harry Potter's
7:34 closet is now this big and we are actually going to be
7:39 sealing the UPS Into the Now expanded
7:42 server room which in addition to its four dedicated 15 amp circuits here
7:47 additional 15 amp circuit here also
7:50 has I believe this is a 100 amp circuit
7:53 that we had wired in and that we're going to directly attach to the Eaton
7:57 ups and then it'll sit right here and plug into all of our gear bity Bop just
8:01 like that this cardboard is both a blessing and a
8:06 curse and slow okay cool now I got the
8:09 weight go ahead and pull the card
8:13 out okay and that's pretty much that all
8:18 right let's check this baby out so inside this second pallet that arrived
8:24 today we are going to find our power
8:27 units and our battery units as well as what what is this
8:30 $350 like 100 megabit network card what
8:34 a scam a freaking scam Enterprise gear
8:38 is well because it's proprietary and we
8:41 uh decided that we're buttholes two skids oh they didn't know
8:45 you were going to be here Dennis they've only got me and Johnny
8:51 covered so how many power modules did we get it was three right Johnny no four
8:55 four four power modules yeah
9:02 I feel like I work at like Fort Knox because I'm moving heavy stuff that
9:06 costs way too much around waa That's Heavy holy crap
9:13 okay okay I'll help
9:18 steer hold
9:21 on Save the network
9:25 cable oh my foot okay I'm okay I'm fine I'm good y that's fine that's good for
9:30 the foot okay this bastard needs to go
9:34 in there I guess so let's just if you're going to you just test one well we
9:37 shouldn't load them first right we should put it in there first and then
9:41 load them right sure yeah okay okay let's do this
9:45 then let's watch that height yeah we're
9:49 good yay measuring tape go team measure
9:52 mons hope for the
9:57 best okay how we doing now perit per
10:01 we're in no big deal okay so let's start loading up some
10:07 modules shall we o who okay I broke a
10:10 thing that was quick oh really it's this
10:14 clip oh the clip where did it go
10:19 inside did you see I heard it trickle down here oh you got to be kidding
10:24 me oh it's right it's
10:27 like what the the
10:31 hell oh this yeah what the hell
10:37 eaten I don't even know how these side panels come off they're like scaled over
10:42 top of each other I see it
10:46 too what the hell
10:50 eaten oh there I got it you got it yeah
10:54 wow okay all right let's do
10:57 this I'm like sweating yeah know right I
11:01 don't know if I'm sweating because it costs so much or because uh this is
11:06 heavy sure oh yeah you take the cool stuff I get to do the stupid
11:10 batteries so this feels like a
11:15 handle oh cool okay I think I no I don't at all actually what oh yeah I see it
11:21 cool so this we should do batteries on the bottom I guess right so the
11:26 batteries plug into these puppies and
11:29 then the power modules plug into the other
11:34 stuff uh what the
11:37 heck I can't tell if that's in or not oh it seems to be in wow is that like a
11:41 zero insertion Force connector that's cool that'll make the hot swap really
11:46 easy so you can actually you can actually hot swap batteries and power
11:50 modules at will assuming that you have enough um enough extra for the power
11:55 modules that you're not just overloading the unit when you you know pull out all
11:58 the power modules over whatever so this is interesting the cooling actually
12:02 intakes at the back and then exhausts on this side over
12:08 here oh that's a good look at uh at the guts of this baby here that's some big
12:12 copper coils and aluminum heat sinks they got going on in there not to
12:17 mention you know the resistors and the yeah wow so oh careful Johnny so that is
12:25 pretty much it we've got all all the
12:29 power modules loaded
12:32 in all the battery modules loaded in and
12:35 all that's left is back here we're going to take three copper wires from our
12:42 panel put them into the back of the unit
12:45 plug some extension cords into our servers and bippity boity boom we are
12:49 ready to rock with our massive 1,000 W
12:54 battery backup and on a totally unrelated note
12:58 Mass drop and this is pretty cool
13:01 they've got the k7xx limited edition ruby red headphones in addition to all
13:07 the other cool stuff over at massdrop.com which by the way you can
13:10 check out at the link in the video description this particular drop though
13:14 and it's the same usual concept the more people buy the better the price this is
13:19 a limited edition of the k7x headphones that I actually reviewed here the only
13:24 real difference is that this run uses red accents on the ear cups and the
13:29 headband please note this is a limited drop with only 1,500 units so if you
13:33 want a pair you're going to want to act pretty fast in terms of spec it was
13:38 configured by mast drop and manufactured by AKG these are open-backed headphones
13:42 with very very large cushiony uh ear cups they've got a flat wire voice coil
13:47 very motion two layer diaphragm genuine leather headband actually that's really
13:51 nice memory foam ear pads with vour covering uh they weigh 8.3 o okay
13:57 there's an awful lot of specs in my notes Here many of which are not
14:00 terribly important to your warranty covered by mass drop and if you're
14:03 ordering from outside the US you can still get it but please note that your
14:07 distribution will be handled through a third party so a $25 fee will be
14:11 assessed to all International orders so if you want to check this out and get
14:15 yourself the ruby red pair of K7 xx's just head over to draws lt- k7xx to see
14:21 that and all the other awesome stuff that they have on Mast
14:25 drop so thanks for checking out this episode of holy [ __ ] online is Tech tips
