0:00 it's unclear to me whether Dell is trying to make my ever popular lol I
0:04 left my XPS out in the rain let's see if it Survived series of videos less
0:09 suspenseful or whether they just want me to work harder to ruin their stuff but
0:14 whatever their motivation was they sent over the latitude 12 rugged tablet for
0:18 the lonus treatment and this device has made it very clear from the moment I
0:24 first laid eyes on it that it's going to take more than a little rain to ruin its
0:29 parade
0:38 the master case 5 by Cooler Master gives you the freedom to truly make your
0:42 midtower PC case your own with a variety of modular parts and accessories check
0:46 out the link in the video description to learn more so let's start with the
0:50 physical tour this is one unusual tablet
0:54 friend I think my wife probably put it best when she blurred it out oh my
0:58 goodness it's really heavy the first time I handed it to her even without the
1:03 optional keyboard cover and kickstand accessory and a secondary battery it
1:07 weighs a whopping 1.62 kg that's over 3 lb which might
1:13 seem kind of hilarious compared to the iPad Pro which has a larger display and
1:18 weighs almost an entire kilogram less
1:22 but I do wonder how hard the iPad would be laughing if you dropped both of them
1:27 in the Octagon because the latitude 12 may be ugly and heavy but where it
1:32 excels is in its ruggedness the corners are all covered in this stiff rubber
1:37 material that feels like a great balance between strength and impact absorption
1:42 which I guess it better be since I'm planning to do some drop testing with it
1:45 fairly shortly and the rest of the frame of the device features a similarly
1:49 grippy textured finish that makes it fairly easy to hold on to In Spite of
1:54 its weight on the top you'll find a microphone pin hole a slider for the
1:58 selfie camera protective cover I mean hey with all that NSA crap going on
2:02 lately maybe that'll become a standard feature am I right anyway moving on uh
2:06 you'll also find both the tether point and storage slot for the included soft
2:11 tipped stylus and on the right you'll find the power button then covered by
2:15 protective flaps a micro serial port a
2:18 must for like scientific Expeditions where a lot of that equipment would look
2:23 at USB like some kind of spaceman connector a USB 3 port for the more
2:27 modern stuff and a power input on the bottom is the pogo plug dock connector
2:33 that I'm using for the optional keyboard and trackpad accessory as well as RF
2:37 passrs for both Wi-Fi and mobile internet in case you want to hook up to
2:41 beefier antennas on the left is another mic pin hole a lone cooling exhaust port
2:46 and another flap with micro SD mini HDMI and a four pole 3 and half mm audio jack
2:51 then around the back holy crap this thing has a lot of IO for a tablet
2:55 there's a smart card reader at the top left with this placeholder in it that
2:59 has common metric to Imperial conversions the Morse codes for both SOS
3:04 and help and a guide for how to find North then right below that is a
3:08 fingerprint reader an NFC contact Point another pogo plug accessory contact pad
3:13 thing with mounting points around it a Super unexceptional 8 megapixel rear
3:17 camera with flash and privacy cover and air intake and dual hot swappable
3:22 batteries that manage an outstanding 5 and 1/2 hours of battery life in battery
3:26 eater Pro with life remaining indicator l and finally a micro SIM slot hidden
3:32 under the rightmost battery
3:35 pack moving around to the front is an 11.6 in 1366 X 768 Gorilla Glass thre
3:42 topped matte IPS display with a glove
3:46 compatible 10p Point capacitive multi-touch interface that results in
3:51 the image being readable but certainly not Crystal Clear when viewed off AIS
3:57 but trades that for being love compatible and being functional even in
4:02 the rain pretty cool it's accompanied by
4:06 a rotation lock volume and Windows buttons and three additional
4:09 programmable buttons below and also an unexceptional front camera woo sounds
4:16 great lonus so I'm sure this Beast of a tablet is making up for its 2006 era
4:22 display resolution with like a quad core i7 and 32 gigs of RAM especially for
4:27 that price right actually it doesn't
4:31 it's got even more features I didn't mention yet like a vibration motor for
4:35 notifications and GPS but when it comes
4:38 through our horsepower the latitude 12 rugged comes up short with a Broadwell
4:42 based Coram dual core up to 8 gigs of RAM Intel HD graphics and up to 512 gigs
4:47 of solid state storage so if you were shopping based on price to Performance
4:52 the latitude 12 rugged might end up on the short something but it certainly
4:56 wouldn't be a list of course that's not why anyone would buy this thing anyway
5:01 so let's go punish it it's rated at 1.22
5:05 M of drop resistance while turned off and at just shy of a meter while
5:10 operating blowing dust at it should not be a problem and neither should thermal
5:16 extremes with a rated operating temperature range of all the way from
5:20 -20° C to
5:23 63° C seriously you would die of heat
5:27 exhaustion before this tablet would an Ingress Protection rating of ip65 means
5:32 that it should be able to withstand Jets of water from any direction and a bunch
5:37 of other stuff that we don't really have the facilities to validate like what is
5:42 explosive atmosphere but even though we
5:45 couldn't run through all those tests I'm still impressed that it still works and
5:50 by works I don't mean that it's an amazing Computing experience or anything
5:54 like the keyboard cover and kickstand accessory that they sent me has a nice
5:59 you know strong magnetic latch and a decent keyboard but probably the worst
6:04 touchpad I've used in the last 10 years thanks to its use of resistive
6:08 technology which is again about glove compatibility and not perfect tracking
6:13 under office conditions and another issue is that like the rest of the
6:17 accessories this thing is not cheap but
6:22 with all that said it still works so if
6:26 Dell's objective was to take the fwn out of my rain torture videos by building a
6:30 device that gives exactly zero cares about anything that could happen to it
6:34 within reason then I guess mission accomplished the latitude 12 rugged is a
6:40 pretty cool freaking device and on that subject Crunchyroll
6:44 the site created by anime fans for anime
6:48 fans and their sites got all kinds of great benefits for premium users which
6:53 you should definitely try out by checking out the link in the video
