0:18
optimized power supply that we've yet encountered this is the new RM series
0:22
from Corsair and it's kind of a replacement for the
0:26
txm V2 so that is their TX modular
0:29
series so as you might expect it is a modular power supply which means the
0:33
cables are not preattached and what you
0:36
also might not expect is that it has what Corsair is calling their zero RPM
0:42
fan mode so they've brought this down from the ax and axi series to the RM
0:47
Series so your fan actually is not even going to spin up at all until you reach
0:53
about 40% load so this is your typical power supply fan curve compared to their
0:58
zero RPM fan curve now now with all of that said this isn't the first time
1:03
we've ever seen this feature in fact it's been around for kind of a while the
1:06
power supply in my system doesn't have its fan spin up until it's under a
1:12
fairly significant load but it's the first time that we've seen a
1:16
manufacturer optimized for silence in a way that goes beyond having the fan not
1:21
spin so we've actually got a closed cell foam inside here for packaging and we're
1:25
going to go ahead and open this baby up so what Corsair's done is they've
1:29
optimized the fan blades on the 135 or
1:33
140 mm fan whatever they're calling it they're usually around the same size to
1:36
reduce turbulence okay so it's not the first time we've heard a manufacturer
1:40
say yes optimized fan design okay uh but
1:44
what they've really done is they have hand selected the components inside the
1:48
power supply to not only not make noise with the actively moving stuff but to
1:52
not make like weird electrical buzzing noises and whining noises which are
1:57
often referred to as coil whne even though there's a wide variet of
2:00
components inside electronic devices that can cause this kind of noise so
2:04
that means and I don't know if you guys have ever seen this before but I certainly have I've seen fanless power
2:09
supplies that make annoying noises in fact my power supply which is an XFX
2:13
th000 watt Platinum has a ticking noise that is audible even when the Fan's not
2:17
spinning at all but I personally appreciate this kind of an optimization
2:21
and I'm excited to find out if it actually ends up working so let's take
2:25
you guys on a bit of a tour of the product itself they've got a little warning sticker here that says yo the
2:30
Fan's not spinning it's okay because
2:33
it's designed to do that we've also got a nice open honeycomb mesh at the back
2:37
and it otherwise looks pretty much like any other Corsair power supply they've
2:40
got a bit of sort of rounded Corner thing going on and those RM logos on the
2:43
side are right side up regardless of how you install it in your system on the
2:47
front of the power supply or back or whatever you want to call this on this side you find the modular interface so
2:52
your 24 pin cable goes here you have five spots for either 4 plus4 pin for
2:58
your CPU or 6 plus2 pin for PCI Express so that's four total PCIe and one CPU
3:02
connector five peripheral connectors and a Corsair link connector another thing
3:07
that's a little bit unique and special about this power supply is the fully
3:11
flat modular cables even the 24 pin is
3:14
using a flat cable design that is extremely low profile I love this even
3:19
going back to Corsair's original HX series power supplies they had the flat
3:24
cables on Molex and SATA however this is
3:28
the first time I personally seen the flat cable approach taken with 24 pin as
3:34
well as with 6 plus2 see nice flat
3:38
there's your eight wires and otherwise it's completely flat as well as the four
3:41
plus4 pin this makes Cable Management easier even if you don't happen to have
3:45
a case that's great for cable management so kudos to Corsair for thinking of that
3:50
and implementing it because it's actually not that easy to get factories
3:54
to do things like this there's a lot of um there's a lot of ease of assembly
3:58
stuff that goes along with color coding things which is why they like to color
4:01
code them at the factory and Manufacturing level so there's a little tidbit for you guys in terms of included
4:06
connectors we've got two four pin Molex
4:10
harnesses each with four connectors on them and then we have three SATA
4:14
harnesses that are somewhere in here okay uh two of them have three
4:18
connectors on them and the last one has four connectors on it it also has the
4:22
Corsair Link cable included remember guys unlike the axi series this is 80
4:27
plus gold instead of platinum and it doesn't have quite quite the same degree
4:30
of integration with corer link but it will allow you to see things like fan
4:35
RPM monitoring and power usage monitoring which is kind of nice and
4:38
then finally you've got one CPU cable and four PCI Express 6 plus two pin
4:43
connectors and you should be able to pretty much fill this baby up with all
4:47
that stuff two Molex two floppy connectors if you really still feel the
4:50
need for those a quick start guide as well as some included cable ties of
4:55
course our case badge and some included screws last thing I wanted to show you
4:59
guys is ah yes sample only so this is a sample power supply is the distribution
5:04
of the Rails so it's a single 12vt 70.8
5:08
amp rail that is capable of providing the entire 850 Watts that this power
5:12
supply can supply so that tells us that the 3.3 volt and 5volt rails are
5:16
actually derived from the 12volt rail this is an approach that we've been seeing for quite a while here it comes
5:21
with a 5-year warranty something I often forget to mention in my unboxings and I
5:26
think that pretty much wraps it up thank you for checking out my unboxing and
5:30
overview of the RM series power supplies from Corsair these are silence optimized
5:35
that's the biggest thing you need to remember don't forget to subscribe to L tchp for more unboxings reviews and
5:39
other computer videos like this video if you liked it dislike it if you disliked
5:43
it and let me know in the comments do you even care if your power supply is silent I do but that doesn't mean
5:47
everyone does so I'd like to hear what you
5:58
think oh
