0:07 today Rumble will be assisting me with the unboxing because this is a fairly
0:12 straightforward unboxing that I'm sure even he can handle so this is the
0:16 Western Digital 2 tbte re4 Edition hard
0:20 drive and what makes it re is the fact
0:24 that it has a much much longer meantime between failure than other drives okay
0:29 Rumble I want you to grab the knife so I want you to slice the package right
0:33 there can you handle that good boy good
0:36 boy all right okay we're done with the knife now I want you to grab the hard
0:40 drive oh no no need you to take the
0:43 packaging off there we go I'll help you
0:46 a little bit okay I'll help you a little bit oh no don't go away don't go away
0:51 okay okay good boy Rumble okay take the hard drive K it out this is the most
0:56 reliable hard drive that you can pretty much get because say Western Digital
1:01 validates their Enterprise storage drives much more than their consumer
1:06 drives now their consumer drives are perfectly reliable however compared to
1:10 some consumer drives this Enterprise Drive has up to double the meantime
1:17 between failure it is otherwise just like a
1:21 regular storage drive in that it connects via SATA power as well as SATA
1:26 2 or SATA 3 depending on what kind of a drive you're going for and it's got the
1:30 same kind of platter technology in there it spins at 7200 RPM so all that stuff's
1:34 pretty straightforward it has 64 Ms of cash and uh you can strap it to a cat to
1:39 add more storage to your cat and it is more likely to last for a long time
1:44 because it is an Enterprise grade product so why would you want an Enterprise grade product I can give you
1:48 a few good examples so number one oh he's getting mad okay he can go thank
1:53 you good boy uh so number one is if it's
1:57 going to be really hit hit hard a lot in
2:01 terms of data accesses um Reads wres
2:04 Moving the heads around basically if it's going to be under heavy load if it's going to be used in a 24/7
2:09 application if it's going to be used for streaming media or some kind of server
2:13 application you're probably better off with an re series drive for example in
2:17 my Home Server um and this is just a Home Server
2:21 this is not like a proper server uh where I've got like about 20 drives in
2:26 there I've probably had oh including that one I've probably had 10 drives
2:30 fail in the last few years here had I been using reer drives as
2:36 opposed to like refurbished consumer drives I wouldn't have run into that and
2:40 the reason that it gets that the drives get beat up so badly in a server
2:44 environment like that it particularly Home Server is because I'm using a drive
2:48 pool which means that the data is constantly balancing around between all
2:51 the different drives in kind of a fake raid which means they're almost always
2:55 being accessed a little bit they never get a break they never get you know shut
2:59 down like a consumer computer would you know at night or over a weekend when you
3:03 go away it's running in a server environment and it's just not the
3:07 intended use of those drives so we'll be back in just one second so I just wanted
3:11 to look up the warranty as well so these re drives have a 5-year warranty in to
3:16 go along with their 1.2 million hours of meantime between failure so thank you
