0:21 in the video description yes it is true the long line
0:25 of Google Nexus phones has ended its successor will be pixel which is
0:29 currently my favorite phone yeah we'll dive into the details of that later the
0:33 pixel is a phone made by Google yet still manufactured by someone else HTC
0:39 in this case but they weren't Google's First Choice that would have been Huawei
0:44 who bailed out because Google wouldn't put their logo on the phone which brings
0:48 us to the design easily the most talked about and polarizing aspect of the pixel
0:52 visually is the gorilla glass pane on the back of the phone but it turns out
0:56 that it's not just for looks it is intended to help with cell reception
1:00 along with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth signals which is cool and if you really hate it
1:05 you can just put a scan or a case over it anyways
1:10 debrand also on the back of the phone is a fingerprint reader which you can also
1:14 use to pull down or put away your notification tray with some finger
1:18 flicks and maybe it's because the last phone I reviewed was the LG G2 but I
1:23 absolutely love having it in this position no it's not ideal for when it's
1:27 on a table but when you pull out of your
1:30 pocket you can unlock it in one smooth motion while having your hand in the
1:34 perfect position ready to use it m so
1:38 good absolutely love that what some people are saying isn't so good is the
1:43 thickness a pixel XL is 0.33 in thick while an iPhone 7 plus is
1:49 only 0.29 in thick but to be honest guys
1:53 I really can't bring myself to care especially when the pixel XL is also
1:57 rocking a 3450 million hour battery W
2:02 seriously the battery mixed with the new software stuff which we'll talk more
2:05 about later gives me the ability to just charge whenever I want instead of having
2:10 to constantly be chasing down power sources it's awesome in the time that
2:15 I've been using it there have been a number of occasions where it has lasted
2:19 2 days with no additional
2:23 charging so good what's arguably even
2:27 more awesome than that is the camera which happen s to be the highest rated
2:31 smartphone camera ever its specs are darn impressive 12.3 megapixels f2.0
2:37 apture and a 1.55 Micron pixel size
2:40 along with 4K video recording and 240 FPS slow-mo naturally I gave our
2:45 resident camera expert Brandon Lee a spin with it and while he wasn't able to
2:49 appear on camera because he's off being a cinematographic wizard somewhere he
2:54 did leave me with some notes lens flare is an issue as others have noted in
2:59 their reviews however thanks to our natural habitat being the Cloudy
3:03 rainforest of Southwestern British Columbia he actually never encountered
3:08 it he described the lowlight performance as not groundbreaking per se but said
3:13 that it was very good for a smartphone
3:17 but then he was a little bit disappointed with the lens blur
3:20 apparently iPhone's implementation is notably better as the pixel would blur
3:24 out odd parts of an image and add grainy effects to some other images the HD r+
3:30 mode is impressively fast but a little overdone at times which can make images
3:36 look less natural though that's great if that's what you're looking for and if
3:39 you're looking for more true to life images you can still get those rather
3:44 easily after a few tweaks in a photo editor like VSCO his conclusions were
3:48 that the pixel gives detail that he never thought one could get out of a
3:52 smartphone photo and in his subjective opinion he sees this as the best noedit
3:59 smartphone on the market blam that's
4:02 awesome moving on we have the hardware for both a pixel and pixel XL you're
4:06 looking at a Snapdragon 821 an adreno 530 GPU 4 gigs of RAM and either 32 or
4:12 128 gigs of ufs 2.0 storage with the
4:16 pixel specifically you'll get a 5in 1080p screen with for its size a large
4:22 2770 mAh battery the pixel XL steps it
4:26 up a notch with a 5.5 in 1440p screen
4:29 screen and that massive battery that I mentioned earlier all those impressive
4:34 specs however might cower and fear a little bit when they hear that both
4:38 versions have an IP water and dust resistance rating of 53 meaning it's
4:43 somewhat Splash and dust resistant and that's it which leaves a bit to be
4:48 desired as it's quite behind the curve compared to other modern phones even
4:52 apple is finally rating their phones at
4:57 ip68 that's lame Google what isn't lame
5:00 however is the software pixel is running Android 7.1 and oh my gosh is it smooth
5:05 on this hardware easily the most buttery experience I have ever had on a phone
5:11 the UI just Glides at your fingertips nothing takes time everything is
5:16 effortless even when playing games the phone doesn't even notably heat up at
5:20 all because that might dare take away from the experience it's
5:27 glorious which makes the total flood of a speaker implementation that much more
5:32 disappointing especially from the likes of HTC who have ample experience with
5:37 how to do this right there are no front-facing speakers to go on those
5:42 giant bezels where they would fit right in just an unfortunately easy to cover
5:47 up sounding speaker near the USB type-c
5:51 port sad but anyways the swipe up motion
5:56 for the application tray is a little odd at first but grows on you quick
6:00 especially if you've installed a similar aftermarket launcher of your own in the
6:04 past it works nicely with the whole smooth idea of the pixel and so does the
6:10 long press option that I expect many people to overlook you can now hold your
6:14 finger on an app and it will flip up some additional shortcut options like
6:19 incognito tab in Chrome or the take a video option in the camera app pretty
6:25 neat then we have the Google Assistant what time is it
6:30 the time is 11:41 a.m. which is a more conversational version of Google now
6:35 which means it will remember the previous questions that you've asked and
6:40 will be able to provide context appropriate answers to followup
6:44 questions without you rephrasing the entire thing on the surface the pixels
6:48 are very good smartphones but not necessarily perfect ones or even great
6:52 ones for that matter it has a crappy speaker non-expandable storage bad water
6:57 resistance large bezels and it's kind of thick all of that going along with its
7:01 surprisingly high price tag but when you
7:05 use it it's not much short of amazing
7:09 it's the smoothest phone I have ever witnessed the best camera in Brandon's
7:15 opinion which is good enough for me along with
7:19 Incredible battery life it's truly more
7:23 than the sum of its parts and I am super stoked for Pixel 2 where they can fix
7:28 the speaker and water resist problems along with the other
7:31 things dbrand is your source for awesome vinyl skins they're available for phones
7:37 tablets laptops consoles controllers and
7:40 even more they use highquality authentic
7:43 true textured 3M vinyl on every product
7:47 and they feature unrivaled Precision they measure many times to ensure that
7:51 they have a factory fit for your products that'll fit on nice and look
7:55 like it actually was supposed to come that way their configurator is great and
