0:00 you guys know i hate to be the bearer of bad news
0:06 yeah you're fired you're fired you're gonna have to be fired you're not
0:10 allowed to work here anymore oh bad news i already quit
0:13 you're fired but here it is the world is
0:16 just gonna have to wait a little longer than originally expected for 4k monitors
0:21 to dominate the mainstream why well
0:25 because gaming ultrawides just got a little closer to your price range the
0:29 vast from mass drop is a 35 inch 3440 by
0:34 1440 100 hertz freesync ultra wide aimed
0:38 at gamers for a hundred and fifty dollars less than the one that dropped
0:43 3.8 million jaws just nine months ago so
0:47 to hit this price did they like
0:50 out cheap the korean brands or did they just
0:54 cheap out well i'll tell you who didn't cheap out
0:58 rose will you can check out their neon k85 gaming keyboard with mechanical
1:03 switches and m53 gaming mouse with up to 4000 dpi sensitivity at the links below
1:18 oh man i shouldn't have that strudel so with the vast mass drop set out to
1:22 strike the perfect balance between features and cost and
1:25 you can tell by just looking at it strips of gray anodized aluminum accent
1:31 the parts that you can see interrupted only by a deliberately dim
1:35 power led and the rest is simple black
1:38 plastic much of it glossy though for some reason that i don't care what the
1:43 reason is because no reason is good enough all the i o is thankfully on the
1:47 side of the monitor so you don't have to go through this every time you want to
1:51 plug something in but it's pretty basic no usb hub no
1:55 DisplayPort over usb type c no HDMI out
1:59 no magnetic paper clip holder just a pass-through headphone jack one
2:03 displayport 1.2 port one HDMI 2.0 and
2:06 two more HDMI 1.4 ports that actually
2:10 won't run past 50 hertz at native resolution but could be good for sources
2:15 like game consoles that run at lower resolutions or
2:19 like picture in picture if you want to fight
2:22 your way through the inexplicably horrible on-screen display navigation to
2:26 be the first person to use that feature since 1998 ergonomics is where we get
2:30 our claim in the video title technically there are other monitors priced the same
2:34 as this one but you'd have to buy a third-party monitor mount to get the
2:38 features of the vast it doesn't swivel
2:41 but it has 20 degrees of tilt it's got a
2:44 gas spring actuated 11 centimeters of height adjustment and it's even got 90
2:49 degrees of pivot making it perfect for
2:53 ultra tall gaming
2:56 or for browsing reddit more efficiently than ever before but seriously
3:00 massdrop's positioning of the vast as a gaming display does seem to be mostly
3:04 justified it's using a va panel boasting two millisecond overdriven pixel
3:09 response times and while compared to lg's similarly priced gaming ultra wide
3:14 it's running at only 100hz versus
3:17 hertz it's doing so at a much higher resolution and then compared to
3:22 offerings from ASUS and acer that also
3:25 run at 3440x1440 you are giving up g-sync support but you
3:30 are paying only half as much so how the hamburgers did
3:34 massdrop manage to undercut the big dogs so handily well their video promoting
3:39 this product seems to suggest that it had to do with choosing the appropriate
3:44 technology with the two millisecond response time and the 100hz refresh rate
3:48 of their va panel from auo being and this is a direct quote just as fast as
3:53 any tn panel and it has color performance that's on par with
3:56 first-rate ips panels okay massdrop i love you guys
4:00 um you sponsored this show you sent me this dope ass monitor to check out so i
4:04 really hate to do this but that is a big load of crap and in my opinion that
4:08 video needs to be pulled your monitor delivers a pretty great gaming
4:12 experience for all the reasons that it would on paper
4:16 va panels including yours do actually deliver noticeably better
4:21 contrast than competing technologies outside of OLED and they definitely have
4:26 better color accuracy and viewing angles than tn and at this price it's a killer
4:31 value but its pixel response times are
4:34 nowhere near a 1 millisecond response
4:38 time 240 hertz tn display like ASUS's
4:41 rog swift pg258q no matter how much
4:45 overdrive you apply at a hundred hertz i mean it's good for a 1440p ultra wide
4:51 but it's on the low end of high refresh rate
4:54 and 100 coverage of the srgb color space
4:57 does not make it as color accurate as a
5:01 premium ips i'm not mad because the
5:04 product is bad it's not bad in fact it
5:08 scored very well in our battery of color and contrast tests courtesy of the folks
5:12 over at portrait i just don't like the way that certain
5:16 aspects of it are being positioned as specifically great for gaming while
5:20 others are being glossed over freesync for example is a super marketing bullet
5:25 point but in practical terms running aaa
5:29 titles on AMD's highest end graphics card today if you can get one
5:34 at decent settings slash native resolution you would frequently be below
5:39 the 49 hertz minimum refresh rate for adaptive refresh and then when that
5:44 happened you'd experience stutter lag and tearing as though you didn't have it
5:48 at all so to be clear none of what i
5:52 just said prevents me from recommending that you go buy this product because
5:56 ignoring the marketing the vast is arguably the best bang for the buck
6:01 gaming ultra wide on the market
