- Hello. My name is Jake. You got some two and a half inch hard drive SSDs,
0:04
heat sinks, IRI, fix it, screwdriver. You ever had been stabbed with a Torx bit?
0:09
Put that in the video. In this box is the fastest
0:12
dual processor computer on the planet.
0:16
Were you expecting more? Because that's all it is.
0:19
It's fast. And it's sent over by our friends Wendell at Level 1 Techs.
0:23
- How's it going? - You should go check him out because this is technically
0:27
property of AMD, but he sent it anyways. Thanks man.
0:31
Also, this video is sponsored by Pulseway More on that later. I don't know what's in here
0:35
Oh, I see what this is. So this server would have came
0:38
in like a specific configuration from AMD, but Wendell did some slight modifications
0:43
because he's had it for a few years. So he actually sent us a little SFP module
0:46
because I think there's a 10 gig SFP card in there,
0:50
so a network card. So we'll keep that just in case we need that. Pass for accessories.
0:54
It's not exactly anything interesting.
0:57
We've got some two and a half inch hard drive screws and some three and a half inch hard drive screws
1:01
Really three and a half? Where would you even? Let's see, I don't think you could even fit
1:04
three and a half inch hard drive on this thing. You got some nice closed cell phone packaging,
1:09
even though you totally can't buy the server. And there she is.
1:14
See very nice and shut. Oh, oh Wendell. Oh, you didn't feel it.
1:23
Oh, I feel the static. Look at my ARM hairs.
1:27
Yeah, baby. Let's go. It feels good to be fast.
1:33
So looking at this thing on the outside, this is shockingly similar to our current WANic 3 server.
1:39
Or if you're a psychopath, you might call it a new new WANic.
1:43
Or if you're a liquid, you might call it the Badger Den
1:46
but it's effectively kind of the same package.
1:49
You have two epic CPU's; in our case, these are also 64 core
1:53
and our current one is also 64 core. So that's a total of 128 in both of them
1:58
Pop these off. You can see a metric boat load of RAM slots.
2:02
This system only has about half of them populated right now. I think this is 512 gigs of RAM
2:07
and would have been like similar to how this
2:11
this system would have shipped from the manufacturer. And it's not a system that you would buy
2:15
like this isn't something, you know data center buddy would put on order.
2:18
This is actually a reference system. So similar to how you get like a reference graphics card
2:23
from NVIDIA, where it's sort of the same design. If you get it from PNY, you get it from EVGA,
2:29
a reference card is going to be pretty much the same. And that's because the design was actually set up by NVIDIA.
2:34
And in this case, this was actually a project between AMD and Quanto, which is a major server ODM.
2:39
They would sort of design this system in partnership and they would send them out to your Dell, your HP,
2:44
your Gigabyte so they can base their servers off of this. And you can kind of tell because the Dell system we have
2:50
in our server room looks very similar to this. Like even down to the fans, popping out,
2:54
they're in the same place. They got a plastic shroud over the CPU's.
2:58
I mean, I guess she can't really do it too many ways.
3:01
There's only so many ways you can design a box but it does look pretty similar.
3:06
Although the CPU's in this system are very new.
3:09
The actual chassis is not a recent release.
3:12
This Daytona chassis, as AMD calls it, was actually released with Epic Rome,
3:16
or the last generation, but a it's seen a BIOS update
3:19
and I guess was built with the power spec in mind that it can handle these 280 watt each CPU's.
3:26
And I guess while we're in here, we might as well
3:29
start taking it apart. Very like Dell-esk with the blue markers
3:35
to sort of indicate things you can actually touch
3:38
with your hands, like here you're supposed to hold there to pull out
3:41
or here you're supposed to push this or whatever. They usually use blue to mark it, but this is pretty crazy.
3:46
You see the CPU coolers? They, I guess, didn't have quite enough gumption
3:50
in this spot that they put a heat pipe out to have a little like satellite heat sink.
3:57
Look at that. That's what's so weird. - [David] I've never seen that.
4:00
- Yeah, they look like little like antennas. I suppose I might've been teasing you guys
4:05
a little bit too much. If you haven't guessed already what's underneath here
4:08
is two of AMD's latest Milan CPU's and it sounds kind of like a fancy place
4:14
but it's actually a processor, it's a family of processors.
4:18
And in this case we have two, like I said 64 core before,
4:21
we have 2 64 core, what are they? 7763's I think.
4:26
The absolute top of the line Milan CPU so. With those CPU's that should make this the
4:31
fastest system basically on the planet, assuming you only have two CPU
4:35
since they're the fastest in themselves and you put two it's gotta be the fastest with two, right?
4:40
And here they are. Woah, what the heck? Have you ever seen blue thermal paste?
4:44
- Nope. - What the hell? I've never seen thermal paste like that before.
4:48
Okay, so we got the CPU's all cleaned up and oh look at those 7763.
4:55
That thing costs like $8,000 and there's two of them.
4:59
Oh.
5:03
There's something about just holding 10 grand in your hands that never really gets old.
5:08
So this is a 64 core, 128 thread. Like I mentioned before, it's got a 2.45 gigahertz base,
5:13
a 3.5 gigahertz boost, on 64 cores.
5:18
And unlike the previous generation Rome CPU's, this guy, at least there's, there's a couple
5:24
that they released like halfway through that could do it, but this one can do 280 Watts
5:29
which is just a mind numbing amount of power for one CPU,
5:32
especially when you consider there's another one. And now one of the concerns I originally had
5:38
with this chassis is because it's from the previous generation, it wouldn't be able to do that much power,
5:42
but, you know, according to Wendell, it will do it no problem.
5:46
Before we start up, we should probably go over a few other interesting things here.
5:50
You want to take a look at the RAM that Wendell included for us 32 gigs of micron 3,200.
5:55
Yeah, that sounds about right. That's of the, the standard for epic.
5:59
You need that crazy fast RAM to keep those CPU's fed. What have we got on the back here?
6:03
Let's check out the power supply situation. Your typical redundant power supplies set up.
6:08
And a thousand Watt platinum.
6:11
That's pretty good. I don't think this is as much as are WANic 3
6:14
but I don't think this server is set up for doing GPU stuff
6:18
so a thousand Watts is plenty for the 500 Watts of CPU
6:22
and probably like a hundred Watts of fans.
6:25
These are 12 volt, three amp.
6:28
So you're looking 36 Watts. - [David] Whoa.
6:32
- [Jono] Are those blowie-matrons? - Yeah. These probably blow at like 15,000 RPM.
6:38
So what there's three of them. Yeah. That's that's a Wattage just for fans.
6:41
I guess on the back the server doesn't really have anything pre-configured
6:45
but Wendell did throw in a 25 gig card down there. You can see that SFP 28 connections for that.
6:50
Oh, there's one more thing I wanted to do.
6:58
Oh yeah. Alright, let's start this thing up. after our message from our sponsor, Pulseway.
7:04
- With Pulseway's remote monitoring and management software, you'll be the first to know when a user has an issue
7:08
or when there's a problem with your IT environment. Pulseway gives you out of the box commands
7:12
to take actions such as killing processes, resetting user passwords, running PowerShell commands, backing up files,
7:17
and even remote control. With powerful auto remediation,
7:20
Pulseway can automatically resolve critical IT issues like low disk space, high CPU usage,
7:25
and even restart your services. And the best part is you can do this all
7:29
from their mobile app or from your desktop fully featured regardless of the platform.
7:33
- So try for free today at pulseway.com or check out the link in the description.
7:36
And, just to make it a little bit easier for you, we're even going to install it on this machine
7:40
and show you how it works briefly. It's pretty sweet. - [Jono] There you go.
7:43
- [David] There we go. - Ah, it was magic. It was all me.
7:47
I did it. Boom. Yeah. This is the quiet mode. (laughter)
7:51
Oh look, whoa. That is the, the most half-assed boot icon ever.
7:58
They must've been like "Hey we can put up, we can put up a boot image on the BIOS"
8:01
and then AMD was like, "Oh, let me just look at download Google images, Epic logo."
8:05
They didn't even bother to make it black.
8:09
Oh, what? You see this? Did you see this?
8:13
- [David] Yeah, I saw it. - It said lgdstore.com? Dammit Wendell.
8:17
- [David] What's up with this? - Ah, there's no drivers probably.
8:22
Alright, we don't have internet. Dammit.
8:26
Oh, actually he sent us a thing just for that. - [David] Oh, Wendell.
8:30
- Wendell. I did it again with the SOT modules. Oh.
8:34
I honestly actually don't even know if this will work, but we're going to try it.
8:37
Oh, it's blinking. It's doing things. Oh man, we're doing CPU and coding.
8:43
I don't know if this thing can handle it. Actually. I kind of want to see what this looks like.
8:46
Ten percent, that's quite a bit. You hear the fan kicking up?
8:50
- [David] Wow. Huh.
8:53
- You know, you have a lot cores when you have to scroll through them.
8:59
Either way, that's a lot of cores.
9:02
And a lot of RAM, like 512 gigs. Having this many cores, it starts to beg the question of
9:06
"what do you use this for?" I mean, for us, we have a similar set up
9:12
It's CPU, sitting at like 5%, most of the time.
9:15
We just like it for the PCIe bandwidth. But if you're gonna use this in the real world,
9:18
this is a system you'd probably do some like machine learning computation on,
9:22
or you might have it in a slightly different chassis with multiple GPU's.
9:26
So you can actually make use of those PCA lanes or super, super fast storage.
9:29
Well, it wouldn't be a sponsored video with Pulseway if we didn't install Pulseway
9:34
and I'll show you just how easy it is. We'll go to Pulseway.com.
9:37
Probably should have looked Oh, Resources, Downloads Look, I didn't even know where I was looking
9:41
and I still found it that easily. Pulseway for Windows. Download.
9:46
Come on super fast server. I know you can do it. Next.
9:49
I agree. Sign my life away. Bada bing, bada boom.
9:53
Pulseway's installed. Oh, I still gotta log in, but it's installed.
9:58
Alright, so we got it installed. You can see WANic 3 here, eighty-five days, that's not bad update time.
10:03
(laughter) I think the last time it went down was the Windows updates. But yeah, here, look at that.
10:07
We've got our 0% CPU usage. We got so much RAM.
10:11
It's like five hundred eleven gigabytes out of five hundred and twenty.
10:16
Oof. You can see lots of stuff in here. You've got your hardware
10:19
so we can see our temps and our fan speeds. Wow. Even, oh, you see the CPA's are hot.
10:23
Seventy two degrees. The like very quiet studio mode
10:28
just makes these things cook. Oh wow. It even shows you like your SEDA remaining lifespan
10:34
from your smart statistics. That's very cool. You can see printers, storage.
10:39
Here, let's do this Windows update. We'll just force it to Windows update. Four updates found.
10:44
Cool. Restart. Oh, actually, no, I don't want to do that.
10:47
There's nobody else recording. Dang it. Ah, here lock, monitor.
10:51
I'm locking the desktop. Look at that. It locked.
10:54
- [David] What? - Look. The point is Pulseway gives you a ton
10:58
of control, analytics, everything you could possibly want
11:02
as an IT system administrator. And you can do it all from the comfort of your home,
11:07
sitting on your bum on your phone. You know, if you're working from home
11:10
because there's a pandemic, but, if not, you can also do it on the website.
11:15
It's great. Check it out at the link in the description or pulseway.com.
11:19
So unfortunately, while this is very performance oriented,
11:23
it's supposed to break records, I can't show you any of that yet.
11:27
Stay tuned for the full LDT video where we're actually gonna, you know, do the Cinebench,
11:32
apparently above a hundred thousand RAM. Like just crazy stuff like that in the LDT video,
11:37
but for now, thanks for checking out this video. If you like really cool bleeding edge technology,
11:42
maybe check out the video I did on Starlink. Thanks to Pulseway for sponsoring it.
11:45
Definitely check them out in the description and we'll see you on the next one.
11:49
Get subscribed baby.
