0:00 okay so today on my video blog I'll be unboxing the ocz vertex series 60 gig
0:05 drive now ocz has about a million and one different SSD drives but the vertex
0:10 series was their first one to really take off because unlike the old J Micron
0:15 based ones you don't get any stuttering issues with these because they do
0:18 feature an indel linkx controller so what that means is that you always get
0:23 the best performance possible from your SSD drive even when you're undergoing a
0:28 lot of Random operations which were what the earlier ssds suffered on now there's
0:33 a couple different versions of the vertex one of which is a turbo version
0:37 and that's basically a slightly faster clocked indel linkx controller and then
0:42 it also comes in a bunch of different capacities so I have the 60 gig one
0:45 today now the 30 gig and the 60 gig drive both have a 64 Meg cache as
0:50 opposed to the 128 Meg cache on the 128
0:54 and the 250 gig drives and they also have slightly lower specs in terms of
0:59 read and WR so the reads on this are up to 230 megabytes per second and up to
1:04 135 megabytes per second for the rights now that is not actually the important
1:10 thing for an SSD drive the important thing is something that you don't see on
1:15 a spec sheet and that is the random
1:18 write and random read performance so you'll have to check benchmarks for that
1:22 because surprisingly they don't come expect for it but anyway let's find out
1:25 what you get inside the box here so first of all you get an installation
1:29 guide and warrant info so this has
1:33 a I believe it's a 2year warranty could
1:36 be a three-year warranty wow it doesn't even say how long the warranty is on oh
1:41 oh one year one year warranty only okay well there we go 2 and 1 half in solid
1:45 state drive one year warranty and then we open it up to find the drive itself
1:49 embedded in a nice little foam there let's get it right side up so it comes
1:52 in a little anti-static baggie okay so let's
1:57 take the drive itself out now most of the indel link series or indel linkx
2:01 controller drives on the market come with these kind of metallic uh casings
2:06 but the ocz drives come with like a matte black finish on them that I
2:10 actually really like so at the back of the drive you'll find a standard SATA
2:14 power and SATA 2 Data there's a jumper
2:17 there I believe that's only for Diagnostic purposes or it might take it
2:21 back to SATA 1 compatibility not 100% sure but on the bottom of the drive
2:26 you'll find four mounting holes so this is useful if you're using the vertex in
2:30 laptop sort of configuration which is highly recommended because an SSD is the
2:34 best thing you can do for your computer's performance it's better even
2:37 than a RAM upgrade at a certain level or even CPU and then on the sides of the
2:41 drive you've got 1 two three four more
2:45 mounting adapters or mounting holes and you can use that to mount it either to
2:49 an adapter or to a desktop configuration
2:53 so thank you for checking out my unboxing oh oh no no no I almost forgot
2:57 okay the biggest thing about the vertex series is that that they already support
3:01 trim so trim is that feature of Windows 7 that allows you to not have the
3:06 performance degradation that you see with almost every other SSD drive on the
3:09 market so it means that your drive always performs at about 99% of new
3:15 performance you need to make sure you update to the latest firmware but if you
3:18 get a Vertex drive you do get trim support thank you for checking out my
3:21 video blog on the vertex 60 gig
