why you might ask am I unboxing a product from a company that no longer
0:08
exists well I have a very good reason so
0:11
MCX still has a lot of these gs450 power
0:15
supplies and they are still selling very well and it's the return rates on them
0:21
are very very low so seems to be an adequate quality unit it's at a very
0:26
aggressive price and NC is actually
0:29
covering one-ear warranty on it uh regardless of whether we're getting any
0:34
support from from BFG so yeah it's kind
0:38
of even though the company that makes it no longer exists this product is still
0:42
out there and you can still buy it and it does come with a one-year warranty
0:47
directly from NC which in some ways especially if you buy it at one of our
0:51
stores is even more convenient than having a manufacture warranty for for a
0:55
year or whatever because then you can just go right to the store and exchange
0:59
it if it dies so anyway there you go this is the gs450 power supply it is a
1:04
BFG power supply from their GS series and it provides 450 watts of power so
1:11
let's go around to the back where it says something along the lines of
1:14
efficiency meets affordability it's definitely affordable although with the
1:18
later with the newest standards of 80 plus going up to 80 plus gold it's no
1:23
longer really a leading uh on the Leading Edge in terms of efficiency in
1:27
terms of features it still is reasonably up to date because you do have an 8 pin
1:31
12volt connector you have a 24 pin motherboard connector you've got dual
1:36
12vt rails which is still pretty much standard and you've also got a six pin
1:41
power connector to ensure compatibility with many high-end graphics cards
1:45
without having is okay well this is this is BS unreliable often performance
1:50
hindering adapters yeah those don't do anything bad anyway so you can read that
1:54
if you want pause the video if you feel like it I'm just going to go ahead and
1:58
open up the box here's some more specifications for you if you want to
2:01
check those out actually oh that's the uh sorry that's the wrong language there
2:05
we go specifications so we've got uh 18
2:08
amps on each of the two individual 12vt rails and you can see the rest of it
2:13
here so up to 304 Watts total on the 12vt rails so because this isn't using
2:18
DC todc conversion like many of the more modern power supplies you find that yeah
2:23
you can't provide quite all of the power supplies total available wattage to the
2:27
12vt rail we see included mount M screws because even though like I said it's a
2:32
value power supply it is a full retail box so you do get things like mounting
2:35
screws you get BFG power to the people
2:38
what's in here need help yeah don't call that number doesn't exist uh don't go
2:43
there doesn't exist uh what else do we have in here
2:47
installation guide that's still relevant and that's all that's in there okay
2:52
let's see what else we got in
2:56
here power cord that still works even though BFG no longer makes
3:03
them and the power supply itself here we
3:06
go I always kind of liked bfds power supplies I like the overall finish of
3:11
them I think they're kind of nice they're not quite shiny it's kind of
3:15
like a a matte brushed shiny like it's almost like a
3:19
hybrid finish like I hope I can get you guys an angle can you see the brush of
3:23
it at all okay so so depending how you look at it you get kind of a bunch of
3:27
different finishes in one very fingerprint resistant very scratch
3:32
resistant and I really like that because something can look as good as it wants
3:36
when it's brand new but if it's just going to look like crap as soon as you
3:40
take it out of the box man handle it a little bit and put it in your case well
3:43
then what's the point right you've got a 140 mm cooling fan here on the bottom of
3:48
the unit so make sure that that's got access to Fresh Air whether you're
3:52
mounting it fan side down or fan Side Up doesn't really matter we've got the
3:56
overall specs over here on the side again so you can see those if you so
4:01
desire on the back we have our little 115 versus 230 volt input switch make
4:07
sure if you're in North America which if you're buying this from NC which is as
4:10
far as I know the only place that still has these make sure it's set to 115
4:15
please we've got our onoff switch as well as our power Inlet port for wall
4:21
power on the other side we have nothing on the top we have nothing and then
4:26
let's have a look at the cables
4:31
hope I don't o this elastic is pretty tight I hope I don't break it and snap
4:34
myself here cuz that would hurt so basically this power supply I
4:39
wouldn't recommend it if you're running any more than one modern video card and
4:43
even then I probably wouldn't recommend it for anything higher end than maybe
4:47
like a 6870 something along those lines
4:50
you don't want to uh be trying to power up like GTX 580 on something like this
4:55
so remember with a 6870 uh one six pin PCI press connector
5:00
won't be enough so you'll probably have to use a so you'll probably end up using
5:05
an adapter with two Molex to another six pin in order to run a video card like
5:10
that and you're going to be just fine that way so in terms of other connectors
5:13
okay so we got our six pin PCIe we have a very very short 8 pin connector so
5:19
either you're going to want to make sure your case has a top mounted power supply
5:24
or you will need to buy an extension cable for that so bear that in mind we
5:28
have again a very short 24 pin connector although that'll be just fine for top or
5:33
bottom mount doesn't really matter how
5:36
it's mounted from the top or the bottom okay here we have a dual Molex single
5:42
floppy Pin cable next we have another cable harness with two SATA yeah two
5:47
SATA that's that's how old this unit is in terms of when they designed it uh
5:52
back when it was like primarily people were running like a couple hard drives
5:55
and then all Optical drives still ran on IDE sort of back when this was was
5:59
popular and then two more Molex here although once again you can use Molex
6:03
TOA adapters there is no real drawback there so thank you for checking out my
6:07
unboxing on the uh ever persevering
6:12
gs450 watt which has outlasted the very
6:15
company that manufactured it don't forget to subscribe to lonus Tech tips
