0:00 oh how much did we spend on this
0:07 being a hundred percent honest with you guys i actually don't know james how
0:10 much did we spend on this thing six grand
0:14 is that the base bottle not quite but almost
0:17 ah it's too bad praying to the apple gods
0:22 doesn't make their products any cheaper
0:32 okay so apple is finally
0:37 demonstrating in a way with like a real actual product that you can really
0:42 actually buy that they give a
0:45 about the enthusiast prosumer slash
0:50 professional all those categories because
0:53 for a while there you could make a pretty strong argument
0:58 for them just giving exactly zero f's about any of
1:03 those groups of end users
1:08 this is the imac pro and i have been
1:11 known to give apple crap about throwing
1:15 pro on anything that they're trying to sell to home users who want to feel all warm
1:20 and fuzzy and professional but this thing does look pretty pro
1:25 spec wise our model rocks a 27 inch display 5k
1:30 xeon w the w is for workstation pro
1:33 workstation okay we're on the same page so far 32 gigs of ecc memory one
1:38 terabyte SSD a vega 56 graphics card okay that's not especially professional
1:43 facetime camera four Thunderbolt 3 ports and
1:47 something that i've been asking for proper support from apple for for quite
1:53 some time something i actually didn't realize that this was gonna have until i
1:58 saw it on the box oh i'm sorry brandon wow this is a lot
2:03 of packaging
2:06 gotta give apple credit they uh they want stuff to get to you in one
2:10 piece did i did i say what the thing was that
2:14 i had 10 gigabit networking because
2:18 for years apple has been on the
2:22 no we don't need 10 gigabit lan because we
2:26 have Thunderbolt train but the reality is that
2:31 Thunderbolt is a point to point connection
2:34 which is great for end user or prosumer
2:38 but as soon as you need to share resources
2:42 Ethernet is the way to go like if our
2:45 workplace was set up around the mac it would be nearly impossible for one
2:50 person to pick up where someone else left off on a project if somebody phoned
2:55 in sick for example what the hell
3:00 look at all the packaging for this power cord
3:04 first of all make sure you open this your power cord's in there it's got a little pull tab
3:09 then this entire look at the box they designed to hold this power cord
3:15 i mean i'm all for a great unboxing experience
3:18 and everything but this was three pieces
3:22 i mean three easily recyclable
3:26 brown cardboard pieces mind you but like
3:31 four pieces four pieces
3:39 world's most amazing power cord
3:43 oh wait no it's just a normal power cord that sits flush with the back your
3:46 computer well we won't be needing these
3:50 gaming peripherals although vega 56 graphics card i mean
3:55 you could game on this thing do some cryptocurrency mining
4:01 well this is professional look at that a number pad
4:04 so there are some improvements even to the peripherals that from my personal
4:08 experience are legendarily non-ergonomic
4:12 the keyboard's okay but i'm still not a fan of this mouse design
4:17 got your gesture nonsense on the top you got your left you got your right click
4:22 yeah okay i always get this feeling when i'm
4:26 opening up apple products that
4:29 like because i don't worship them as a company i'm like somehow undeserving
4:36 of an experience right now that someone else somewhere on earth
4:41 would just be so excited for
4:44 i just they're doing a lot right here
4:48 but i'm still not necessarily sold on six thousand dollars for this
4:53 particular spec regardless of whether it's canadian rupees or us dollars
4:58 wow it's really light and they actually managed to i mean at
5:02 least to the naked eye i don't have the old
5:07 previous imac for comparison because i sold it
5:11 but to the eye doesn't look that big by comparison so
5:15 they have crammed a lot of performance
5:19 in here i will say this though they have clearly left larger
5:24 vents for cooling back there look at that and
5:27 what's also interesting back here is that gone
5:30 is the convenient hatch where you can access your memory modules to upgrade
5:34 them i o wise we've got your audio connectors
5:38 still on the back i guess we were not getting away from that sd card reader
5:42 nice to see four usb 3s of some flavor
5:46 or another four Thunderbolt that is gorgeous and 10 gigabit lan that's
5:51 really exciting to me personally because once apple does it other people start
5:56 taking it seriously and 10 gig networking is something that really
5:59 really needs to happen uh down here is where we've got all of
6:04 our intake vents all along the bottom and so this guy must be the exhaust
6:08 right over here got your cable management hole here i really like the
6:12 aesthetic of this thing that dark kind of like i guess this is kind of a space
6:16 gray or something i don't know what they what apple would call it but this dark
6:21 aesthetic is really really nice it screams professional and not in that way
6:27 that's like i'm a professional you know like glossy plastic or something like
6:31 that no like it actually looks pro so the rumor is that apple has a
6:36 replacement to the mac pro coming like a proper replacement like a desktop
6:41 computer with a separate monitor and a cable
6:44 between them you know like an actual workstation coming
6:49 but for the time being this is the highest end product
6:54 in their lineup and as much as that like kind of sucks
6:58 because i'm really not a huge fan of the fact that this gorgeous monitor that i
7:03 paid for and this powerful computer that
7:07 i also paid for are just married together forever this
7:11 was something i complained about with the previous 5k imac the fact that you
7:16 can't just use it as a monitor with like a future apple desktop
7:20 but with that said it's not a terrible looking machine
7:25 spent a lot of time this holidays on my knees
7:29 like not like like playing card games with my kids and stuff
7:33 shout out and once again
7:37 i am going through the usual freaking thing that i go through with a mac
7:43 where i don't know how to do anything smb colon slash slash no we don't use
7:49 backslashes on the mac we use forward slashes all right so let's find the test folder
7:55 i want to test out that 10 gigabit networking
7:59 fortunately i have a 10 gigabit switch
8:02 right here ready to freaking rock because i am ready
8:06 for the 10 gigabit revolution here as usual the screen is gorgeous can never
8:12 fault apple for the display
8:15 you can fault them for not remembering what bloody button to press to make the
8:19 oh oh look at it go yeah it's more brightness
8:24 than any than any man needs hey what is this 12 gigs 12 gig file here we go here
8:28 we go you guys ready for the 12 gig file to the raid 0
8:32 SSD boot drive look at that go
8:36 oh it's beautiful
8:39 it's not actually that fast it's pretty fast yeah i know that's pretty fast so
8:43 we're doing like 300 megabytes a second for apple people that's really fast
8:49 oh quick time i can't double click to make it full screen
8:52 wow i guess i better go find a hotkey
8:56 i don't know what it is oh am i really going to make myself use
9:00 this thing again for all my software frustrations though
9:05 i mean if you're gonna run Windows on it this is the sexiest
9:10 Windows all-in-one that's for sure so let me know guys this is just an
9:14 unboxing but we're gonna have a review coming at least
9:18 i want to take a look at the upgrade experience as well it's got a vega 56 in
9:22 it so i'd love to look at the gaming experience too but let us know in the
9:25 comments on this video what you guys want to hear from us
9:30 about the mac maybe another really interesting piece would be
9:34 building out a top of the line imac pro
9:37 so we've actually got some spare chips that we could upgrade it with we could
9:40 get this pretty close to full spec and then how it would compare price-wise
9:45 to a top-of-the-line pc workstation something like this this thing can take
9:48 up to two zeon processors so
9:51 i want to hear from you guys after i tell you about tunnelbear
