0:00 okay so today we're going to be doing a quick unboxing of the gskill Falcon 2 so
0:04 this is a SATA 2 2 and 1 12 in solid state drive like most of the other ssds
0:09 out on the market it is faster than a
0:13 hard drive and it is also more power
0:16 efficient and more reliable etc etc so
0:19 enjoy your quiet fast cool reliable and power efficient gskill solidate drives
0:24 this particular Drive is rated for 220 megab per second reads and 110 mbytes
0:29 per second writes but that's not actually the most important spec the
0:33 most important thing is the random read and random write performance of an SSD
0:37 and this one uses the indel linkx Barefoot controller so that means that
0:42 you're going to see performance similar to other indel linkx based drives such
0:46 as the ocz vertexes or the Corsair X Series so the Falcon 2 comes in a little
0:52 padded black book shaped thing so we open it up here and let's see what we
0:56 get for accessories we get a piece of paper so this is a user guide and the
1:01 user guide say oh I love this
1:05 installation nice you'd think the user guide was written by inidia I think
1:08 that's very funny anyway it gives you a general idea of the specs and the
1:12 installation procedure for your drive and that is pretty much it and then you
1:17 get the oh oh no there's something else but wait there's more attention for
1:21 firmware upgrade use only actually this is a really interesting thing to talk
1:24 about because gskill Falcon 2 drives you can update the firmware much like many
1:30 of the other indel linkx drives in order to get better performance sometimes as
1:34 well as new features so many of the indel linkx drives on the market these
1:37 days have actually been updated to add trim support So trim is a very important
1:42 feature supported by Windows 7 that allows your solid state drive to perform
1:46 in a like new uh level of performance
1:50 even after it has been used cuz with the early ssds you'd actually see
1:55 significant performance degradation over time as you filled it up so here is the
2:00 drive itself we can start at the back where we have the SATA to power as well
2:05 as our SATA to data interface and you can see these two little pins right here
2:09 are exactly where that jumper would go when you follow the correct procedure to
2:12 update the firmware and then on the back of the drive you can see we got our Rass
2:17 it's two and half it reaffirms the spec so it has a 64 mag onboard cache much
2:22 like most of the indel linkx drives on the market okay you've got your four
2:25 mounting holes down here at the bottom as well as your four mounting holes on
2:29 either side so this drive can be installed in probably about 99% of
2:34 notebooks out there that accept a 2 and 1/2 in Drive you've got a nice sort of
2:38 matte black finished on the top of the drive with a g- skill Falcon sticker
2:41 thank you for checking out my unboxing of the g-skill Falcon 2
