0:00 Linus Tech tips coverage of CES 2014 is brought to you by nc.com your source for
0:05 great technology selection and service along with Corsair memory and Western
0:10 Digital Welcome to our best gaming notebooks of CES 2014 Adventure we're
0:17 kicking things off here at the Intel Booth where I've been given a challenge
0:21 or a quest or whatever you might want to call it either way I hope you guys will
0:25 join us for the adventure to find my personal favorite gaming notebooks here
0:30 at the show now there's no particular criteria it doesn't have to be the best
0:34 performance it doesn't have to be the thinnest or the lightest or a particular
0:39 color it's just the ones that really stood out to us as we journeyed Las
0:44 Vegas going into all the sweets and all over the show floor trying to find our
0:48 favorite gaming notebooks well this was unexpected it looks like we're going to
0:52 be one of the only ones able to bring you this news oh wait no this this is
0:57 one of MSI's workstation notebooks this is gaming systems best gaming
1:03 systems of CES ah yes this guy right
1:07 here I can't tell you guys the model I actually covered it as well in the video
1:12 of MSI Suite so you can go check that out for a few more details but the core
1:17 i7 quad core processor in here is paired with an undisclosed Graphics solution in
1:22 a completely unreal enclosure it is
1:26 phenomenally slim it feels faster than the gs7 in real world gaming and unlike
1:32 the gs70 about which I had one complaint and that was that it was dense it was
1:37 Heavy I mean the thing was made of metal so what were we going to expect this one
1:41 feels more like it's made of plastic but I know for a fact just from touching it
1:45 and looking at it it is definitely made of metal unfortunately I can't tell you
1:50 guys too much about this not even its name but it is definitely one of our
1:55 highlights of the show gaming notebooks just don't look like what they used to
1:58 look like anymore this is the orus X7 it is an extremely slim gaming notebook and
2:04 you might go okay well I've heard a lot of things called extremely slim gaming notebooks and usually they're just not
2:09 that powerful but this one is it has a core i7 quad core and it also has
2:13 GeForce GTX 765m Graphics not one but
2:17 two of them it has two graphics cards running in SLI to which you might reply
2:21 okay lonus well it probably runs really hot then the answer is no actually it
2:25 does not the keyboard does not get more than slightly warmed to the touch you're
2:30 not going to get sweaty hand syndrome or as I call it shs from using this
2:34 particular notebook and if you are curious about what the power of dual GTX
2:39 765m is like they've got a couple of demos running here one is Batman Arkham
2:43 Origins running at about normal settings and you can see that we're looking at
2:47 about 60 FPS average so since we have vsync on that actually only tells us
2:51 that we are able to run the game butter smooth at 60 FPS with only mild dips to
2:57 44 frames per second they also have it running a 4K gaming demo over in the
3:01 other corner so whether you are gaming on the display that's built in which is
3:05 a 1080p display not a TN panel just like
3:08 thumbs up or whether you want to plug in up to three external displays or one
3:11 high resolution one you will be pretty much good to go continuing our quest for
3:16 the hottest gaming notebooks here at CES we're in the ASUS Suite where we're
3:19 checking out the g750 JZ at features an upcoming NVIDIA
3:26 GeForce presumably GTX high-end graphics
3:29 card of some sort we can't even tell you what it is that's how new and exciting
3:32 it is as an Intel Core i7 quad core processor it features Thunderbolt
3:36 technology as well as four USB 3 ports but more importantly than any of that is
3:41 what's here in the back massive massive
3:45 heat sinks with dual fans for ventilation so no matter what you are
3:49 throwing at this sexy but a little bit
3:53 heavy which should give you some kind of clue as to what kind of powerful
3:56 Hardware is inside no matter what you throw at this sexy gaming Beast it will
4:01 stay cool and look good doing it now we're at the NVIDIA Booth we found
4:05 another awesome gaming notebook here at CES 2014 this is the Razer Blade 14 it's
4:10 actually one that we've looked at before but that doesn't really make it any less
4:14 exceptional you can see we're running Assassin's Creed 4 here this particular
4:18 notebook has a 14-in display it's got a gorgeous green LED back lit display it
4:23 has did I say display cuz I meant keyboard don't worry about it you guys I
4:27 got this i got this I'm pretty tired we're on like day three of the show here
4:30 it's in an extremely slim form factor and the most exceptional thing about it
4:34 has got to be the build quality in spite
4:37 of the core i7 quad core processor and GTX
4:40 765m uh graphics card in here it's got this super super slim beautiful aluminum
4:47 design that is as portable as it is
4:50 deadly so just cuz we've seen it before and just cuz it's not the newest thing
4:53 ever doesn't make it any less exceptional now I think it's somewhat
4:58 safe to say that if you're gamer particularly one who's been shopping for
5:02 a notebook in the last little while and you've been on the internet then you've
5:06 probably heard of the y500 series from Lenovo well this my friends is the Y 500
5:12 series evolved in pretty much every possible way that I can think of this is
5:17 the y50 this is a sort of a an example
5:21 unit it's going to be available in a variety of configurations all lenovo's
5:25 really said so far is that between this one and the 14-in model it's going to be
5:29 sort of starting at $9.99 but uh this is one very very
5:34 impressive notebook guys the first thing you might be thinking is well okay lonus
5:38 you're saying the y50 is better than the y500 that doesn't actually make much
5:42 sense no no it does because it's not about some kind of reduction in the
5:46 hardware spec it's about a reduction in the overall size this is one Sleek slim
5:51 beautiful gaming notebook it's actually it doesn't really look like a high
5:56 performance gaming notebook and while unfortunately we can't tell you exactly
5:59 what Gra graphics card is in this particular one suffice it to say there
6:02 will be some options coming in the future and there will be some more information and that will give you some
6:07 some great you know perspective on how impressive the feed is later on down the
6:12 line it also contains a quadcore Intel Core i7 processor it's got a red back
6:18 lit keyboard it's got a beautiful soft touch finish here on the uh on the
6:23 surface of the notebook but I kind of saved the best for last here a little
6:26 bit guys this display right here in addition to having great viewing angles
6:31 vibrant colors without looking oversaturated to be perfectly honest is
6:35 a 4K display now unfortunately they don't
6:39 all ship with 4K displays at $9.99 or anything like that but the fact that
6:43 it's even available as an option is unreal and to go along with you know
6:49 just just again to demonstrate that it's got the power to back it up we are
6:52 running two 4K videos this one's on the upcoming Dell 24in 4k monitor this one's
6:57 on the notebook itself and they are both running off the notebook right
7:02 now the end of our Quest is actually in the Intel Booth but it didn't really
7:07 have to be it's just that this particular demo with the alien Weare 18
7:12 is particularly impressive because it's one thing to have the Alienware 18 with
7:16 its quad core core i7 processor and dual GTX 780m running games on its own
7:22 display it is quite another to fire up a
7:26 60hz 4K display from pan Sonic and be
7:30 running Batman Arkham Origins in silky
7:33 smooth gorgeous detail so you guys can probably actually see that in spite of
7:38 Batman being dropping around and swinging around places it is running at
7:42 an incredibly smooth playable frame rate considering the fact that this is still
7:48 a portable machine while it might not have the same you know slim form factor
7:52 as some of the other ones we're looking at if it's raw horsepower you're after
7:55 well those options are still available as well thanks so much for checking out
7:59 our favorite gaming notebooks of CES 2014 guys like this video if you liked
