0:02 all right so I believe we are live nowo
0:06 hopefully wow the lower third is not above you uh now it is hooray anyways we
0:14 have a whole bunch of cool stuff including a uh one entire full unit of a
0:19 bucket worth of E3 conference announcements we have R9 300 series
0:23 release info stuff we also have the R9
0:27 Fury series release info stuff we have no performance benchmarks for you guys
0:32 yet the performance embargo for Fury is lifting not yet I think it's under
0:37 embargo when the Embargo is up or maybe it isn't I don't know I guess you'll
0:40 have to watch the show to find out or you could just Google it I guess that's fine too also there's going to be a
0:46 $150 Xbox controller what could justify
0:50 a controller that's worth half as much as the console itself I guess we'll find
0:55 out and that's assuming that you think an Xbox is worth what they charge for it
1:03 are you rolling the intro
1:08 yes man I got no idea what's going
1:15 on oh I'm in a pretty narrow sliver there I got to try not to lean out of my
1:21 window all right thank you to l.com fresh books and squares
1:28 spin woo square space I like how the
1:32 scene you're on says No guest because it's actually finally accurate for
1:36 because get it you're long distance but you're not a guest anyways that was
1:41 terrible right I am not a guest you're right you did very well um I'm waiting
1:46 until the intro ends so I can figure out which where I should be my head you're
1:50 fine you're good you're you're you're right in the right spot right now maybe
1:54 if you like Lean Back slightly Lean Back slightly and prob more
1:58 improperly I'm probably worse positioned than you are right now so no big deal
2:03 have you read into any of the E3 news um
2:08 any of the game announcements okay cool yeah yeah a little bit um one of the
2:11 ones that looks really cool to me and I want to preface this with that um E3
2:17 announcements are complete horseshit and we shouldn't really care at all about
2:22 anything that they said yeah but um South Park the fractured butthole I
2:27 really want to be excited about but but I think is probably going to be garbage
2:32 um because Dev by uh I I didn't say that
2:36 I didn't say that you know I got a lot of friends who work at ubis no I don't
2:41 um that that's why I mean I don't it
2:45 always it always kind of it's like how
2:49 do I how do I put this it's like if I
2:52 came up with the concept of us having like a great YouTube video and I have
2:56 you make it and it's really good and then I'm like wow that was so successful
3:01 let's make another YouTube video I'm going to have someone else do
3:05 it where does this logic come from like I get it game studios are busy or or
3:10 whatever or maybe maybe they are charging too much this time but like
3:14 come on Parker and stone you guys can afford it figure it out yeah cuz South
3:18 Park was received really well with stick of truth it was there were some
3:22 development pitfalls like it it was not a smooth development process but did you
3:27 play the game no but but it's always been there like I should probably play
3:32 this and I will play it eventually kind of okay it is wow okay aside from ones
3:37 that I buy for benchmarking which as you know I can't play because the save games
3:42 will overwrite because games are ridiculous now um that is wow in the I
3:49 don't know it's been years I paid $59.99
3:52 us for that game full price and I was I
3:57 waited and waited and they didn't the price and the reviews were great and Ed
4:02 told me it was great and I was like come
4:05 on drop the price and they didn't and I bought it I paid full price and it was
4:09 worth every penny I really enjoyed the so I want I I I'm doing it I'm doing
4:15 that like wow I played the last one and it was great I really want to play the next one I'm doing it but I'm not going
4:19 to pre-order it and I'm going to wait for the reviews I think that's fine if
4:23 you're like oh I'm excited I want to play the next one but I'm going to wait till it's out I think that's completely
4:28 fine cuz I'm super stoked to play Fallout 4 right but I haven't
4:32 pre-ordered it that's right because Bethesda has let you down they have they
4:36 were they were my golden ticket every time they released anything it was fine
4:40 and then it was like Elder scolls online no I hate you now we're done it was a
4:46 personal insult to you it was it was I I
4:50 also the Doom trailer looks like oh like
4:55 it looks it looks like cartoony level of
4:58 you know horrible Gore actual just like stupid fun like kind of pain killery um
5:05 so I'm I'm I'm really liking the Doom trailer but I mean when's the last time
5:09 ID did anything worthwhile so you know I don't want to I don't want to be a total
5:14 total jackass about it but again I'll be waiting for waiting for positive reviews
5:18 um and then rise of the Tomb Raider oh man I might even pre-order it because
5:23 okay hold on hold on can I can I can I sort of okay I'm not saying to pre-order
5:27 the Xbox version cuz it's not not coming to PC until some indeterminate amount so
5:33 you'll kind of know what the game is all about because you'll see the Xbox
5:36 version first but but Crystal Dynamics
5:40 did a really good job of the PC Port of
5:43 Tomb Raider 2013 I loved that game I
5:46 really enjoyed it that but more of it please would be great um and as long as
5:52 they don't completely mess it up then I'm I'm in for I'm in for a Tomb Raider
5:57 I heard there's more tomb raing this time
6:00 yeah that would be good because there were what like four four optional tombs
6:04 I maybe yeah I don't I don't remember exactly what it was but it was it was
6:08 not even a very big part of the game um
6:12 another interesting thing Elder Scrolls Legends look I I don't think that's
6:16 going to do much personally just I I
6:20 would love to think it was going to do great but just with with the crushing
6:23 force that is Hearthstone yeah I mean Hearthstone was
6:29 like that's what blizzard does is they just kind of do something completely
6:33 stupid that makes no sense like yeah
6:37 we're going to we're going to throw every we're going to throw all our weight behind an MMO at a time when MMOs
6:42 were like really nerdy yeah and they like took it mainstream yeah and now
6:47 it's like yeah we're going to take a card game which is already inherently
6:50 nerdy and we are going to nerd the crap out of it by making it a digital card
6:55 game and we are going to wreck everything and make it mainstream just
6:59 because blizzard does it doesn't mean that anyone else can do it I think is
7:02 words to live by yeah um and speaking of
7:05 Blizzard Starcraft 2 Legacy of the Void I am not particularly excited about
7:11 finally getting um so they're actually
7:14 doing a miniseries in between Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void so it's
7:19 called Whispers of Oblivion and I haven't actually played any of the
7:23 Starcraft 2 campaign yet embarrassingly enough I actually only even own wings of
7:29 Liberty so as much as I'm like way late on this um once they've released the
7:34 whole thing I'm going to just binge play it cuz I I really I I know I'm one of
7:39 those disgusting people who legitimately enjoys RTS storylines no I do too I I've
7:45 bought multiple RTS games with zero intention of playing the multiplayer um
7:51 and thinking back on like Red Alert 2 even Red Alert one like I enjoyed the
7:57 single player Supreme Commander was a
8:00 great example of a terrible single player campaign
8:04 implementation because basically you were just it was just like an AI in a
8:08 spot and a limited Tech Tree like there was there wasn't even a lot of scripted
8:12 elements and stuff so it was just like it was just kind of bad it was an
8:16 afterthought but I really enjoyed it so
8:20 whatever screw you guys I like RTS single player games I
8:24 really do um what else is on here that's
8:27 interesting Assassin's Creed syndicate I've lost all faith in that series have
8:32 you come on because they've done bad ones
8:36 before yeah but I'm like relatively far
8:39 behind now I guess so CU I haven't
8:43 played I I did not play I can't even
8:46 remember the name of it Unity I didn't play Unity I didn't play Rogue was it
8:51 called and then now syndicate's coming out and I know almost nothing about it I
8:55 should try to catch up I've been I was waiting for Unity for Pat to come out
9:00 for it to like fix itself I shouldn't say itself for for
9:04 developers at UB to fix it um maybe it is now I don't know I'll try
9:09 it again sometime soon I guess I don't really have a ton of time to play games
9:13 these days I finally bought csgo it was on sale it's always on sale well
9:18 whatever it was on sale and I saw it um
9:21 so I I want to play sometime wait like a month or two and then yasher and then
9:27 right after a big sale especially one that CSO is on but like any time CS go
9:34 goes on sale at all there's this like huge wave of hackers oh yeah so just
9:39 kind of like chill for a sec not un
9:42 sure well all righty then I wish I was kidding but I'm
9:46 not firewatch looks super cool and then
9:49 there's the no man SK Sky conundrum I'm
9:53 also super excited for XCOM 2 I really liked XCOM 1 I played the crap out of
9:56 that game mhm so I'm really happy that's coming out hopefully XCOM 2 doesn't have
10:01 a game-breaking glitch halfway through the very last mission of the game when
10:06 I'm like 32 hours into my campaign that would be really nice um firewatch looks
10:11 super cool I'm worried about it for multiple reasons basically it's uh it's
10:16 a Wilderness exploration game essentially and it's an indie game so
10:20 those two things together scare me a lot so like basically it's a a massive
10:26 expanse of emptiness because they can't afford to to Dev the assets and
10:30 environments no we're not talking about no man's sky right now oh wct oh ow
10:37 oh you're merciless today you even asked
10:41 me what my highlights are and then you've just been crapping on everything
10:45 yeah oh oh my gosh yeah this isn't in
10:49 the um this isn't in the dock the Final Fantasy 7 remake oh wow which I
10:55 totally pissed off about cuz you want s
10:59 because yeah because why does seven get
11:02 all of this attention why does everyone
11:06 just have this massive erection for Final Fantasy 7 it is not the best game
11:12 I would argue that six well no not I would argue six is object Superior I
11:17 would argue that five is superior and I could even make Arguments for nine
11:22 although I don't know if a lot of people would agree with me okay um but oh I've
11:25 got people asking where I am guys I'm at Google headquarters right now um I came
11:30 down for a YouTube Creator day and um I
11:33 was actually a panelist which was really exciting for me because it was only two
11:37 and a half years ago that I was attending a similar event in Vancouver
11:42 um as just someone in the crowd and and
11:45 watching the other panelists um talking
11:48 so it was it was actually like super like I had goosebumps and stuff really
11:52 exciting for me to to be a part of that um I it's really funny during the panel
11:58 um I'll get back to Final Fantasy 7 I'm not done with that but during the panel
12:03 vessel actually came up and
12:07 yeah I kind of had to look over at the YouTube guys I was like so um well gee
12:14 it's funny you ask about that actually it's been great it hasn't impacted our
12:18 YouTube views it's been purely incremental audience building and
12:23 engagement and interaction um yeah I I'm I'm liking
12:31 it and you know what the YouTube guys are really cool about it and respectful
12:36 of sort of you know what YouTubers are doing to to build their business and
12:41 they've really started taking my feedback directly um about how we can
12:46 work together for me to not need other video platforms they actually talk to us
12:49 at all yeah no it's um super super cool
12:55 oh oh oh oh oh okay okay no never mind
12:59 Nick is Wrecking me right now he's like
13:02 well actually Final Fantasy 7 uh is in
13:06 the dock it's in Rapid Fire it was broken out into its own topic because it
13:09 is more than just a visual update which
13:14 is something that they have done before so it is an actual remake as opposed to
13:20 just replacing graphical assets
13:24 so um that always worries me actually
13:28 yeah are they going to change how the game works yeah game play will be
13:33 receiving an update not just the visuals
13:36 um so they're also bringing the original bringing the uh an HD port version of
13:40 the original game to the PlayStation 4
13:44 anyway back to Final Fantasy 7 not being the best Final Fantasy I know I've
13:47 covered this on the show before but I will cover it as many times as it takes
13:52 until everyone goes and plays Final Fantasy 6 for it Superior storytelling
13:56 in characters because nothing happens in
13:59 Final Fantasy 7 you could you know that stupid have you guys ever seen the
14:04 Guitar Hero episode of South Park have
14:07 you seen it Luke no okay well basically uh Stan becomes a Guitar Hero Rockstar
14:13 by playing the game really well and he you know the stress of the fame of being
14:17 a Guitar Hero leads him to try another game called heroin hero where he just
14:22 runs around after a dragon in the forest shooting up heroin um to me that's Final
14:27 Fantasy 7 you just run around and you chase the dragon the whole time and then
14:33 finally you find the dragon it turns out he's not a dragon he's like an
14:36 otherworldly being or some crap and it's not like that's the first time they've
14:40 done that in fact spoiler alert because Final Fantasy 6 is a game that's worth
14:44 playing unlike the other one um spoiler alert that happens with one of the
14:48 antagonists in Final Fantasy 6 too and and it's kind of a common theme for
14:51 final fantasy but it just is yeah
14:56 dumb that's kind of funny the only Final Fantasy
14:59 people are going to stab me after I say this but the only Final Fantasy I've
15:03 ever played is I think uh 8 and like 13
15:10 or something and I played like half an hour of 13 was like I don't like this
15:15 and I loved eight and then everyone hates eight so it's like okay whatever I
15:19 should probably go back and play six and seven so I can join this conversation
15:23 yeah I I didn't uh I didn't like eight
15:26 much I'm trying to remember which one 13 is I don't know if I played that one
15:31 which one's the one with
15:35 Titus I don't I can't I can't remember I'm I'm I'm showing my old school right
15:40 now yeah it's not 13 maybe that's 10 I think that's 10 I played 10 really
15:44 enjoyed 10 um anyway people in chat are
15:47 saying that eight was good so that's cool yeah some people really enjoyed
15:51 eight I didn't I didn't like the combat system but you know what I only gave it
15:55 about 20 minutes so I was probably pry unfair I was pretty unfair to eight I
16:00 borrowed eight from a friend so it was
16:03 one of those things where I was either going to binge play the whole thing or I
16:09 was going to have to like give it back in the middle for him to finish it or
16:13 something like I only had it for a bit so I was like and do I like this and not
16:17 that much not enough yeah yeah yeah got cuz you needed the discs for that game
16:21 there was like six of them or something it was like oh new chapter swap the disc
16:25 out oh old school gaming the best you
16:29 I sat down to play a game the other day and my girlfriend was like do computer
16:33 games still like do you have to have the disc in and I I went and showed her like
16:39 my steam library and like how it how it works and I'm like I can play any one of
16:43 these like 400 games right now I don't even need to put the disc in it was
16:47 awesome did that impress her did you impress her with your gigantic steam
16:51 library with my extremely long and
16:54 girthy list of games yeah
16:59 oh wow the twitch chat's freaking out uh
17:03 they didn't know you had a girlfriend apparently this was the
17:06 reveal what I've said it on the W show before they freak out every
17:12 time oh all
17:15 right never mind then all right the
17:19 twitch chat just does things yeah the twitch chat is the twitch chat we love
17:22 you guys the twitch chat always collectively knows and doesn't know
17:26 everything so let's move on to our next topic that last one was posted by Mech
17:31 777 and I actually I I never did this I
17:34 I meant to do this I'm copying the link URL right now so that's PC Gamers
17:38 Roundup of a lot of the stuff that we were saying we were were not excited
17:41 about depending on whether it was me or Luke talking um
17:46 and and for our next one for our next trick we've got South Korea and this
17:51 original article here is from Korea herald.com
17:54 announcing gigal LTE the world's fastest
17:59 LTE connection and what's really cool
18:02 about this is a couple of things so number one it combines LTE with Wi-Fi
18:07 connections it offers a maximum download speed of 1.17 gabit per second 15 times
18:13 faster than existing LTE and four times faster than triand Advanced like this is
18:19 some bananas crap here so cool uh 10
18:23 times faster upload speed than uh triband broadcast LTE Advanced um but
18:28 the really really cool thing about this to me is the fact that the S4 and or
18:34 excuse me the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge are
18:37 already compatible with Samsung launching I think they said five to six
18:42 more mid to high-end phones before the end of the year um along with some LG
18:48 Electronics handsets that will be compatible with this technology people
18:51 on the planet before the end of the year will be using gigabit connections on
18:55 their phones that's ridiculous that's
18:59 Canada yeah we're we're doing a little rough did I tell did I ever show you my
19:03 data usage from the compex trip uh no uh
19:08 it was an unlimited H+ Sim so by the end
19:12 of the trip I think I was at like 16 gigabytes used sick and how much did you
19:17 pay for that 25 bucks yeah oh man just
19:20 ridiculous and like we Brandon and I kind of realized partway through because
19:24 when you're in the states and you have your Verizon sim and it's unlimited data
19:28 but but only the first whatever is actually LTE yeah and we have an
19:32 interesting news topic about that later you guys by the way uh throttling
19:37 unlimited go ahead go ahead be cool um
19:40 but on that one you can't tether so
19:44 partway through I was like I wonder if it'll work and I just Tethered to my laptop and it works I was like oh yes
19:48 and then that day the data spike is just
19:52 massive like this is so great someone sent me a picture of his usage of like
19:57 500 and something gigabytes in one month on his data connection wow he has
20:02 unlimited plan I'm assuming he connects it to his computer and like does all the
20:05 things but still ridiculous yeah that's that's awesome I mean to be able to do
20:10 that is uh is something that we can only dream of here here's an interesting
20:15 thing I just sent you a link in uh in in our uh in our chat here if you want to
20:18 go ahead and fire that up uh zoom in on the Lower Mainland uh I can't can you
20:23 send it in hangs oh uh yes I can in fact
20:27 I already did you didn't see it in hang out so that was why I tried elsewhere
20:31 okay um bring that up because here's
20:34 what I want to know um it's a it's a map of Cellular Tower locations in Canada
20:42 and you can actually sort it by the major The Big Three carriers up here and
20:47 what I observed about the Lower Mainland in particular is that while uh Rogers
20:52 and tus have tons and tons of towers
20:57 like it's it's it's absolutely bananas how many Towers they have B has very few
21:04 and yet their reception here is really good like have you noticed that I
21:09 haven't noticed it being worse than Tellus so if they just have like a few
21:14 awesome Towers then why can't I have gigabit connections yeah really that's
21:19 what I want to know come on Belle it's only like 15 Towers make it happened
21:23 like look at for people watching look at the difference between say Rogers
21:30 or even tell us man tell Us's coverage of Alberta is just
21:35 nuts you can really tell where they're where they're focusing their business in
21:39 on by looking at this kind of a map like Bell in the East is supremely bananas
21:45 and then in Saskatchewan it's just a black
21:49 hole and then tell us I mean that makes a ton of sense because they used to be
21:53 BC then they when they expanded to Alberta they became tus so they're
21:58 almost entirely Western focused that makes sense and then Belle's like trying
22:02 to capture the the territories up
22:06 north which is actually rather interesting because it doesn't look like
22:09 roders or Tellis are up there very cool
22:13 stuff though hey I had actually just stumbled across this because I was trying to figure out while why uh and
22:18 this is kind of related why our Bell reception at the new office is not very
22:22 good um and it turns out there's a tower like right nearby so I'm I'm not sure
22:27 what the deal is it could just be the concrete building and the metal roof and
22:31 that's just life I think it's the building cuz there's pretty okay reception just outside the door and then
22:35 you walk in and you're screw it's okay though we have a plan it's not cheap
22:39 like everything about this freaking new office uh but we are getting a booster
22:44 that uh will'll make it so so we've got an antenna outside on the roof and then
22:48 we'll have uh we'll have a booster for the inside we'll actually have three antennas internally there you go so uh
22:53 so that's the plan anyway good on South Korea for caring about super fast mobile
22:58 internet and stuff um moving on to our next topic here this was posted by Mage
23:03 tank I'm going to go ahead and M tank
23:06 Mage tank that sounds awesome overpowered class that ever exist the
23:10 Mage tank I would love for like the lonus
23:15 tech tips game to have a mage tank class it should and you just kind of you just
23:20 kind of automatically win like only one person per team gets to be Mage tank so
23:24 there'll always be only like two on the board but that that could actually be
23:28 kind of cool having like a completely op but limited in terms of how many people
23:32 can play it class so you have to like like the rest of your team kind of has
23:36 to protect the Mage tank even though it's a tank yeah because you want to
23:41 survive because it's also a mage that'd be that'd be kind of cool yeah and like
23:44 the Mage tank should basically be able to kind of roll anyone other than the
23:48 other Mage tank I'm sure someone's done this anyway uh the Broadwell core i7
23:53 5775c has gaming performance on par with
23:56 Haswell and the original article here is from Maximum PC they've got a whole
24:01 bunch of uh really good information about it more importantly than almost
24:06 anything else is the information that
24:09 Broadwell desktop was super duper late
24:14 uh it's late it's a it's it's it's a
24:17 refresh at a smaller process node of an
24:20 existing Haswell architecture you know processor Series
24:25 so performance improvements are uh you
24:28 know we we got we got something small but the frequencies are actually lower
24:33 out of the box so the performance is pretty darn near the same except it's
24:37 got way better onboard Graphics so if you're into that sort of thing then
24:41 onboard graphics performance is great it's got a lower TDP if you're into that
24:44 sort of thing which I guess is cool it goes from 84 watts to 65 Watts the good
24:50 news is that c which is for Crystal well
24:53 the um Intel Iris Pro Graphics code name
24:58 uh um the C does not mean it's not unlocked so cclass processors are still
25:04 unlocked just like K's right I have no
25:07 idea why after all the marketing Intel has done about K why are they're
25:12 changing that um that's really silly maybe someone a lot smarter than me
25:17 could figure that out and tell me what c means maybe they're like well sometimes
25:22 they sound the same so it's cool right
25:26 maybe it's c for clock speed increasing
25:29 enhanced clock speed awesomeness one thing that's pretty cool is as you can
25:33 see on this chart that's on the screen right now it shows Eed uh EDR edram
25:39 there we go I could talk L4 cach so if
25:42 you're not using if you're using a discret GPU that that dam for your
25:46 graphics on your processor can be used as L4 cache yes so that is a really cool
25:52 architectural enhancement which um doesn't necessarily show up in like you
25:58 know Broadwell crushing Haswell performance right now but if developers
26:05 kind of figure it out and you know all
26:08 these these things always take time developers developers developers yeah if
26:12 developers get on boarded with this and kind of go oh hold on a second all of a
26:18 sudden there's some this like weird even
26:21 faster than system memory but not quite as fast as cash there's this like this
26:26 weird in between if I can start leveraging that
26:29 super cool lots of potential for it to for that to make a big difference in
26:32 terms of performance um I mean more cash is never a bad thing with that said I
26:38 actually did a really interesting article way back in the day for Hardware
26:43 Canucks because there was one period of
26:46 time um where Intel actually had I think it
26:52 was either three or four processors that
26:56 were exactly the same spec for spec
26:59 except for the cash level so they had a Core 2 Duo they had a uh like an e4000
27:05 series they had an e 8000 series and
27:09 then they had something else and for gaming at that time it made no
27:15 difference at all going all the way from
27:18 like a quarter as much cash to eight times as much cash I wish I could find
27:22 the article cuz it was really cool um oh
27:26 who but there you there go if someone if someone finds it and posts it in twitch
27:31 chat it might not even be there
27:34 anymore um Hardware connects cash like
27:38 there's going to be yeah I I don't think I'm I don't think I'm going to be able
27:42 to find it that's that's a real shame but uh um I really hope that I
27:48 don't know if this is a publicly announced thing but you know what now it is um I really hope that we are able to
27:55 Wrangle a whole bunch of the same card because of what you just said uh you
28:00 mentioned same spec and then wondering
28:03 if the cach would be different um oh go ahead go ahead but what we want to do is
28:08 check out because in a review that's coming out soon on a Gigabyte 980 TI
28:13 that we have a G1 gaming 980ti um it's
28:16 like oh rated speed uh boost clock blah
28:20 I don't remember exactly what it is and then what we actually got without touching it at all was way higher I
28:25 think like 70 MHz higher or something that's happening with cards all over the
28:28 place and that's in a hot room too so like I don't know how vide bloody thing
28:33 yeah yeah um so what we want to do lus
28:37 actually proposed this and I think it's brilliant is getting like a whole bunch
28:41 of the same card all brand new and just take it out of the box put it on the
28:45 bench figure out how fast it is okay next one and then just go and see figure
28:50 out kind of like a general range the sample size won't be amazing with five
28:54 or 10 but it'll still be really interesting to see yeah so we just
28:57 wanted see like if you guys are looking
29:00 at like a graphics card review for a Titan X or something and you kind of go
29:06 oh you beats the you know Fury by you
29:10 know 3% man it's better is that actually
29:15 yeah what if the variance from sample to sample is like 10% we don't even know so
29:22 uh we thought it would be a really interesting investigation and we want to we want to check it out yeah yes yes yes
29:29 because yeah there's a lot of interesting things in that review to look at like
29:33 um wattage from the wall difference between me overclocking it and GPU boost
29:38 overclocking it was only like seven Watts
29:41 underload it's fairly interesting fairly
29:45 interesting yes yeah so um right the big
29:49 elephant in the room and the article that I that I linked actually did a
29:53 really good job of talking about this is that Broadwell was delayed by so much
29:58 that Skylake is rumored to be showing up
30:02 in August so Broadwell's here but um
30:07 Skylake is the actual architectural change where it's going to be on the
30:10 same 14 nanometer process as Broadwell but with a new architecture not just
30:15 like amped up onboard Graphics that you can use the embedded you know vram for a
30:22 level four cash or something this is a this is a new new chip um so our advice
30:30 whether even not knowing what Skylake has in store is kind of wait for Skylake
30:37 right now it'll support ddr4 with that said um I believe Skylake also has
30:43 support for DDR3 so H yeah you know it's it's just
30:47 not looking like a good time to buy a new computer right now is it not really
30:51 dr4 prices are still too high and it's not like they're going to instantly drop
30:55 overnight just because Skylake shows up like Fury stuff looks interesting enough
31:00 and 9ti performs pretty damn well but then there's those like insane I don't
31:04 remember the code name for them graphics cards just kind of on the horizon
31:09 yep so let's all stay tuned basically
31:12 welcome to any industry being on the bleeding edge of it yeah exactly so this
31:18 is cool sort of uh King cry posted the original the original link here from The
31:23 Washington Post I'm going to drop that in the twitch chat for you guys um
31:31 there what oh I'm trying I'm trying I'm going to press the thing eventually atnt
31:36 was hit with a $100 million fine for
31:40 throttling unlimited data customers the
31:43 FCC assessed the fine on June 17th ATT
31:46 has been accused of improperly slowing down internet speeds for customers who
31:50 had signed up for unlimited data plans
31:53 um it was assessed due to the lack of transparency in this action
31:58 um a quote from the article here is AT&T should have been upfront about the
32:02 throttled speed since they implemented the practice back in
32:07 2011 um in October of 2014 the FCC suit
32:10 AT&T due to an estimated three and a half million users having their internet
32:14 service slowed to dial up speeds on an average of 12 days a month so we're not
32:19 talking like the last couple days of the month they like throttle you back you
32:23 know to half speed or whatever we're talking screw over the data access of
32:29 their customers because they had the audacity to use the unlimited plan that
32:33 they paid for it's like so what if I
32:36 negotiate with Luke that um you know I'm
32:40 going to you know help him move
32:43 something and in return He you know has
32:47 me help him move something and I like lift one thing and I'm like yeah I I did
32:52 it enough now so you can carry the Rest by yourself like it's not Luke's fault
32:57 that I offered to help and move something that's not how this works if ATD has a plan that you can buy and they
33:01 have a price tag on it then you should be able to buy
33:05 it yep it's pretty brutal and like the
33:08 throttle speed is insane too it's not like they turned it down like a little
33:12 bit like they put it to 52 kilobits per second like you can't do jack with that
33:17 yeah exactly ridiculous you could browse the Linus tech tips.com for them yeah
33:22 just kind of a little slowly as long as yeah as long as people are polite and
33:26 put their big images in Hiers just like don't go to the build
33:30 log section yeah don't go there don't go to the don't go to the memes thread yeah
33:36 yeah don't don't really do anything anyway that that's brutal like they yeah
33:40 they didn't even I I like how they show stops here so they're like 3 uh 3.5
33:45 megabits per second speed required to stream a standard definition video 700
33:49 kilobits per second speed required to use FaceTime and you're below that get
33:54 wrecked I know to not even be able to use FaceTime it's like yeah we're
33:59 slowing down our data like strategically slow enough that you can just use a
34:04 voice connection and you can eat into your plan there yeah enjoy insane you
34:09 like can't can't can't call your grandparents and like show them around
34:12 your house seems to be the only thing that I know anyone uses FaceTime for if
34:17 you guys follow me on social media um at
34:21 all you've probably already seen this but I'm because I'm at Google
34:25 headquarters and I actually I asked them
34:29 for a um here hold on a second I'm going to get Luke to share this video I'm
34:32 going to I'm going to link you to it Luke so you don't have to look for it here but because I'm in Google
34:36 headquarters um and I told them I was streaming so they were like oh yeah okay
34:41 so yeah we can get you a landline connection first thing I did of course
34:46 is fired up dat speed test and I'm I'm not gonna I'm not going to ruin the
34:51 suspense I'm going to get Luke to uh to play the video over there and screen
34:54 share with you guys but let me tell you I am uh I am pretty pretty L impressed I
35:02 I am loving it I really want
35:06 uh we have to listen to you sorry the sound's muted I can't oh
35:12 it's okay all I say is hey guys I'm down at Google headquarters so the first
35:16 thing I did was run a speed test so I've
35:19 kind of covered that already
35:23 gotcha Holy balls one millisecond paint
35:28 suckers that's so badass yeah
35:32 man wow yeah sorry I'm not at Google HQ I'm at a Google campus excuse
35:37 me we should just host a Google campus out of our new office yeah I know
35:43 right be so epic oh man like Get Wrecked
35:47 everything that is real world speed with presumably like people in the building
35:51 working like yeah yeah and doing things
35:55 and then the upload I actually I ran out of my 30 seconds worth of video
35:59 recording before I could do the upload but it was similar it was like 800 870
36:04 megabit per second or something ridiculous like that it's so sad just
36:09 the the the never wait for anything internet exactly and you can really feel
36:14 it too like downloading files is just um
36:18 you know how browsers will do their virus scan yeah so you just click
36:21 download and then it's like scanning for
36:24 viruses okay that's
36:28 cool thanks dog um Although our internet
36:32 at the new place should be pretty darn good too I'm excited about that did I
36:36 tell you oh this is a this is more of just like a Linus Media Group update I
36:39 don't think Luke knows this yet so our install date thanks to a
36:43 miscommunication between our our like
36:46 fiber reseller and the backbone provider
36:49 our install date has been pushed to after we'll be moving in oh so for the
36:56 first little while we are actually going to be on a 4G
37:00 Hotpot wow provided by them or what yeah yeah
37:06 provided by okay yeah CU I like that's going to get real expensive real fast
37:11 provided by them for screwing it up but uh yeah so I was not impressed when I
37:17 found out that uh the original and and actually like I don't even know the
37:20 speeds of the 4G hotspot are going to be but originally they were like yeah we
37:24 can get you a six down one up ADSL line
37:28 I'm like you have got to be Kidd I'm buying 200 megabit symmetric fiber from
37:33 you guys and you think that I can get by with six down one up how is we're an
37:38 online video company find a better solution well that
37:42 hot spot's going to be ridiculous too you know that right I know it's going to
37:45 be really dumb um but it is what it is
37:49 and it'll be really nice when we when we upgrade I'm even thinking we could just
37:54 do like w show for a week from cuz it's not for long but we could do like a w
37:58 show one week from my house again for Old Time sake or something like that yeah okay um there's a few more details
38:04 about hold on I'm just going to copy the link this was posted by Bozo on the
38:08 Forum about Sky Lake that we should probably share with you guys so um
38:11 Intel's so there going to be the 6700k and 6600k in core i7 and core i5
38:17 varieties so we're going back to the usual naming scheme and we're getting a
38:20 new socket so the thing about Broadwell is you can pop it in your existing d97
38:25 board not in this not for Skylake you're going to need a z170 chipset and that's
38:30 going to be on the LGA 1151 I believe it
38:34 is yeah I think it's the LGA
38:37 1151 um chipet or uh socket so yet
38:41 another subtle change Intel really likes that
38:45 1,150 something number they're going to run out because we've had 1150 1155 1156
38:51 1151 give it another sort of six years and they're going to have to do something different they can keep step
38:55 yeah six years there you go I was going to say they can keeps that weird
38:58 stepping that they have going 1157
39:03 1152 uh let me just find there's another um so hold on a couple more sky leg
39:08 things before we move on to our last bit of Intel news uh notebook versions of
39:12 skyl processors are planned for the fourth quarter of 2015 and Nel's
39:16 notebook reference design for the platform includes support for USB 3.1
39:20 with type-c ports so that stuff is not
39:23 going to be apple exclusive for long which is well it's not exclusive now I
39:28 mean there's a Chromebook but who cares uh no no oh can I say that here are they
39:33 listening oh dear someone comes to the door we're
39:37 taking your internet CL yeah you like that gigabit internet you're on right
39:42 now yeah you like that you like that [ __ ] give it up now umre so I've got
39:48 our last bit of Intel news and this is this is you know I don't know I don't
39:52 know what to say about this Intel plans job cuts across the company the is
39:57 posted by Joss on the Forum um says an internal memo and they plan to reduce
40:02 R&D spending so this is a confidential internal memo that indicates that Intel
40:06 wants to keep expenses flat to match its reduced Revenue Outlook for 2015 citing
40:11 plans it announced in April to cut its research and administration budget by
40:14 300 million this year doesn't say how many people will lose jobs but said the
40:18 cuts will begin June 15th so that was 4 days ago and conclude 1 month later
40:23 laid-off employees will receive a minimum of two months pay according to the memo plus extended health insurance
40:27 and additional payments based on their time with Intel and exchange for release
40:31 of any claims against the company um no
40:35 one has been notified uh or excuse me
40:38 not no one but um if you're losing your job there's a very good chance you
40:41 haven't been notified yet and I got to kind of look at this and
40:45 go was Intel really expecting 8%
40:50 performance improvements year-over-year to drive CPU sales yeah
40:57 what did they expect the mainstream is
41:00 getting bigger and and Broadwell desktop
41:04 is a great example of this the mainstream is getting better graphics
41:09 performance that they never asked for yeah and the guys that are because you
41:14 can talk about how small the Enthusiast segment is all day and it is the guys
41:20 that are out there buying you know 5960x extreme editions are few and far between
41:25 their grains of sand in an ocean
41:29 but they are influencers and Intel has made it hard
41:34 to get excited about their CPUs for a
41:37 long time now and influencers aren't going to be like running around telling
41:42 all their buddies that their new CPU is so great and it makes their gaming
41:46 experience so awesome and they need to upgrade they're not going to be doing
41:49 that if you don't keep them excited and I I I hope that as part of you know
41:55 cutting costs and strategic things that they're doing there I hope they're also
41:59 taking taking a look at what makes Intel sexy stuff like the 750 SSD doesn't
42:05 necessarily show up in a positive way on a balance sheet because there's like a
42:09 handful of motherboards that can even use the stupid thing not to mention that it's really expensive but what it does
42:14 is it gets people talking about Intel's Innovation and leadership in SSD I mean
42:19 Intel's lucky that AMD's been sitting on their ass for the Last 5 Years um with
42:25 that said I think that brings us really well into another topic here that oh I
42:29 don't actually okay this one I don't think is in the dock but AMD has
42:33 committed to a full meet like CPU not an APU with the
42:40 upcoming Zen so if it's wouldn't be the
42:44 first time that Intel fell asleep at the wheel a little bit and kind of went yeah
42:49 it's good enough uh let's focus on like making graphics better which is
42:52 important especially and AMD believes it's important too let's just be sorry
42:57 hang out this to me oh uh which one the article oh uh there's a post on the
43:02 Forum I actually don't have it up uh I'm just going worry about just to be clear
43:07 AMD and Intel are and Apple for that matter all on the same page about GPU
43:12 performance actually being a huge driving force for the future I mean
43:15 Apple was showing off their metal API um
43:18 at their worldwide developer conference talking about huge performance
43:21 improvements in like real work like not
43:24 just you know running YouTube videos on
43:28 the Internet or whatever like real work things like the Adobe suite um thanks to
43:33 metal so I'm not saying that what Intel's doing isn't really really
43:37 important and valuable with these great gpus built into their CPUs I'm just
43:40 saying it's not sexy um because it's it's not there's no
43:47 like what is the upgrade itch you know like as enthusiasts I feel like we all
43:51 kind of we all kind of know what we're talking about right like yeah this
43:55 Hardware is like great and it's cool but that's what Apple's so good at they make
43:59 it sexy they make it exciting even if the hardware isn't new and isn't
44:03 exciting and I feel like I feel like Intel's just kind of lost that a little
44:07 bit over the last while and uh it wouldn't be the first time that Intel
44:11 was like I said kind of as sleep at the wheel and AMD showed up out of nowhere
44:15 and took a chunk of their lunch let's face it AMD has never really been you
44:21 know head-to-head with Intel but they've at least been like a great number two at
44:26 times and even you know for the techsavvy the better choice at times um
44:30 and I I would love to see that happen again with Zen as much because I you
44:34 know would love to run a Zen processor as because I would love for Intel to
44:38 wake up and kick some ass and conro us again you know just and anything
44:43 exciting in the PC space right now would be super
44:48 great everything's extremely expected all across the board as far as I can
44:52 tell I felt that a little bit at computex uh speaking of things that are
44:56 expected the W show pretty much always has sponsors yay so we'll start with
45:02 linda.com and I guess Luke's on uh Luke's on changing frame Duty can't see
45:07 what you're doing so it's done we're good you're awesome and you know what
45:11 else is awesome linda.com it's used by millions of people around the world with
45:15 more than 3,000 courses available they've continued to develop in the time
45:19 that we've been working with them so they've continued to add more industry
45:23 experts uh more courses more features
45:26 you can create create playlists uh that you can actually go through and you can
45:30 sort of tailor your learning experience according to what it is exactly that you
45:34 want to do you can work on your own time and they've improved being able to learn
45:38 on your own time by allowing you to download courses and watch them on iOS
45:42 or Android devices sorry go ahead I love that the ability to download courses
45:46 that's super cool that's super awesome it's like it's like the good kind of DRM
45:50 it's like yes this is our content you have to pay to use it but like you can
45:55 use it in a way that's convenient for you yep because I I've actually had a
45:58 not insignificant amount of people come up to me at shows and be like hey I kind
46:03 of hope you don't mind but I don't watch any of your videos on any platform
46:08 because I download them because they're like I want to
46:12 watch them at work or whatever and I don't get sell there for whatever reason
46:16 because I have X and Y type of job but I'm like whatever man that's cool yeah
46:21 we want you guys watching that's the most important thing I mean we'd love
46:24 for you to watch us on you know a monetized plat if you can but if for
46:28 whatever reason you can't we'd sure as hell rather you watch than not watch yes
46:32 yeah exactly um so plan started only $25 a month for Linda head over to linda.com
46:38 wow to try it out for free for 10 days
46:41 and if anyone from Linda's watching this we want a longer free trial because I
46:45 know there's one other place where you can actually get a longer one so Linda
46:50 we want to offer our viewers a longer free trial because the service is really
46:53 awesome yeah um next up we've got Squarespace Squarespace is what it
46:58 freaking is actually we've got a proposal into Squarespace for something
47:01 really cool that would have us like building a site that would have some
47:05 really cool functionality anyway I don't want to it's it hasn't been accepted yet
47:09 or anything like that but we love working with those guys because they're
47:12 just all about the right things they're about making the web work better and be
47:17 faster and be a smoother experience to get more people online and whether it's
47:21 creating a blog or making a store to sell their little widgets that they
47:25 create in their garage or just like getting out there and connecting with
47:29 people they make creating a website easy and affordable at only $8 a month you
47:34 get a free domain if you sign up for a year and you get 10% off your first
47:37 purchase if you use offer code Linus over at squarespace.com so if you don't
47:41 have a website Luke's highlighting the Squarespace build it beautiful thing all
47:45 right I'll say it Squarespace build it beautiful
47:48 yes yes you're so funny um I because
47:53 like I can't see Luke but I can see his cursor in the dock
47:57 and last up today we've got fresh books it's the online tool to get your
48:01 accounting done quickly these guys love you guys and they keep sort of they keep
48:06 throwing these sponsor spots at us because they keep finding so many of you
48:11 guys who are using fresh books whether it's because you or someone you know is
48:15 running your own business and you don't feel like mucking about with all that
48:20 accounting crap and logging time sheets and logging receipts and then trying to
48:25 remember where everything is freshbooks is the online tool that allows you to
48:29 keep track of your hours in your business and your billing get your
48:33 customers to pay you by credit card see when they've received the bill and just
48:37 take care of those little details so that you don't have to do that and
48:41 instead you can focus on installing showers or um you know framing buildings
48:48 or whatever it is you're doing as a as a as a contractor or as a self-employed
48:53 person so head over to freshbooks.com when and enter when in the how did You
48:57 Hear About Us section when you sign up for your free trial there's a free trial
49:01 I forgot about that yes all right what's our next topic here
49:07 I am lost in the dark now okay it's okay I got this right radon R9 300 series
49:12 speaking of exciting things that AMD is doing um so AMD did everything from
49:16 completely pointless and horrible to actually looking pretty darn exciting
49:21 over the last week with the launch of the R9 300 series and the R9 Fury Series
49:28 so we'll start with r 9300 because um we
49:31 can go through this pretty quickly it's posted by Z
49:35 mule and um yeah so the R9 uh excuse me
49:41 the r7260 is now the r7360
49:46 the hd7850 is now the r7370 the R9 285 is
49:53 now the R9 380 so at least they've
49:56 acknowledged that um yeah it is sort of lower uh the R9
50:03 290x is now the R9 390x and uh the 390 and 390x now come
50:09 with 8 gigs of memory not that we haven't had 8 gig 290x cards for months
50:13 now that's true and memory bandwidth was increased from 5 to six gbit per second
50:19 likely just thanks to better yields on that stuff and AMD's MSRP and this is a
50:24 this is a big gigantic wheelbarrow full of fail are actually higher than the
50:29 street prices for certain cards um at
50:32 retailers right now so if you were thinking hey I'd sure love to have an R9
50:36 390x then you should probably go to Amazon using our code by the way uh buy
50:42 a 29x and then draw a three on it
50:45 because while there were some rumors that the 390 and 390x had actually
50:51 improved the GPU compared to the 290 and
50:54 290x um there's already rumor debunking
50:58 stuff showing up right now in fact um
51:01 the driver thing you're talking about yeah that's the one I'm going to I'm
51:04 going to pull up right now I'm going to post this link uh oh I don't actually
51:09 have the I don't have I don't have the link to uh to hard ocp but whatever I'll
51:14 just I'll post I'll post what I have here you guys um so it looks like it was
51:18 a driver tweak and uh an enterprising
51:22 individual out there found a way to make the 390 launch driver run on the 290x
51:28 and the tessellation performance improvements that came with the 300
51:32 series uh are mirrored exactly on the 29 200 series Once the the driver like why
51:38 do they even bother why do these companies even
51:41 bother we're gonna find out yeah like
51:45 the PC tech media and I'm not even like
51:49 I'm not even including myself here like some of those guys are really really
51:55 smart like really smart like you are not
51:59 and even if they don't grab it like a lot of the end users are really really
52:03 smart and will figure it out if if if we don't that's right you know guys like
52:09 between the professionals you know the guys like a Scott Watson or Ryan shroud
52:12 or Ryan Smith between those guys and between the really smart end users that
52:18 are out there how can you possibly expect to get to to pretend that
52:23 tessellation performance improved when it's a driver tweak
52:28 um yeah so
52:31 anyway uh let's talk R9 fury because this is where things actually get quite
52:35 a bit more interesting so big stuns posted the original article on lineus
52:40 Tech tips here and it's from legit reviews which I have gone ahead and
52:43 posted in the twitch chat so the performance of any card rending the new
52:48 Fiji GPU is still under NDA until it's
52:53 released uh the R9 until the R9 Fury X is released on Jun unee 24th so to be
52:57 clear uh Fury X2 which is just a
53:01 placeholder name for the Dual GPU fij card that's rumored to be coming out in
53:05 the fall and um has been pictured is one
53:11 of them and then we're also getting an R9 Fury X and an R9
53:17 Fury so what can we just make the naming
53:20 scheme even more confusing yeah what the hell why didn't they just make life I
53:25 mean the thing the thing that I think companies Miss sometimes is like why
53:31 something worked it's like yeah it's like if BMW released like a super
53:36 awesome car and a bunch of people bought it and let's say it was called like the
53:41 you know the X6 or something and
53:44 Nissan's like yeah let's call our next series The X6 e for like
53:51 Evolution and like it's like not as good of a car yeah copying someone else's
53:56 naming scheme and and and product tearing structure is not is not going to
54:03 work it's not doesn't work that way the Titan wasn't successful because it was
54:08 called a Titan they should have made it what in mythology killed the
54:13 Titans um wasn't there a thing I can't
54:17 remember I actually like the throwback branding now to be clear if they were
54:22 going to have something that was like a like a truly you know Head and Shoulder
54:26 above everything else product I actually don't mind them calling it like a rage
54:30 or a fury or like an R9 Max or like like
54:33 a throwback to the only new card it's just that it's the only new
54:39 card and the rumors have the performance
54:42 competitive with GTX 980ti so you can't Titan was Titan
54:48 because there was nothing it was competing against not because they just
54:52 called it Titan so for Fury to be a fury
54:55 and to truly be different then it would
54:59 have to compete against something that's really different now you can make the
55:03 argument that if Fury X is competitive
55:06 with gtx980 ti then it's pretty damn competitive with Titan X but I also
55:10 think Titan X is stupid and people who bought Titan X's should feel pretty bad
55:15 right now not because they're dumb but because NVIDIA didn't really give them a
55:20 value in the way that they did with the original Titan which had the better
55:24 double Precision performance in addition to the larger frame buffer and the fact
55:28 that you got you know big Kepler
55:32 performance a significant amount of time before anyone else got big Kepler
55:36 performance at least not at an affordable price um where am I going
55:40 with all this right right specs for R9 Fury X do you want to run through this I
55:45 feel like I've been talking forever I'm sorry when I can't see you it's hard to
55:48 see when I can't see you it's so easy to talk over you I'm sorry I know but it's
55:52 actually been okay because I never controled the screen so I'm just so lost
55:57 in like usually I have like all my notes on my screen I'm just like all right
56:01 this is how I work and I don't navigate websites so I spent a lot of this time
56:06 just being like am I supposed to be scrolling right now or like what do I
56:10 do I have no idea what's supposed to be happening I've been having the opposite
56:14 experience I've been like oh this is great I I have my webcam like right
56:18 above my notes I can just like look right at my notes I don't have to remember Jack yeah because usually what
56:23 I'm doing is I read the chat to make sure everything's is going fine and like
56:27 make sure the thing's stable and the audio is level and every we're not
56:30 screwing anything up and like so I haven't been monitoring the chat I'm
56:34 scrolling through it's weird um I don't even know where the specs are like in
56:39 the oh scroll down a little bit May they're right there I I can do it if you
56:43 want go for it and maybe I'll just jump in probably all right so we've got 496
56:47 stream processors running at 1050 MHz 64 compute units
56:51 2565 texture units 64 RS and blah blah
56:55 blah blah blah blah blah blah can talk about the game stuff yeah so this is
56:59 cool it's only it's less than 20 cm so
57:03 just over 7 and2 inches in length which to me is kind of merits a penis
57:08 extension of some sort I'm sure someone's going to mod something like that um no because um look at what we've
57:14 been doing lately a lot of really small computers
57:18 compact builds the the most fun thing we did in the last little while was that
57:22 little tiny ridiculous Silverstone case and you know they make those even
57:26 smaller if you're able to use some 700 W
57:29 sfx or even their really insane density 600 WT and then an ITX motherboard and
57:34 then a short ass graphics card you and then you throw you throw a Broadwell
57:38 desktop on there and all of a sudden you've got a 65 watt TDP on your CPU you
57:42 don't even need to liquid cool your CPU or even put a decent cooler on it your
57:46 GPU can have that one 120 mm fan cooling
57:49 slot that can actually take up the space
57:52 where the butt end of your graphics card would have normally been I might get my
57:55 PlayStation two size computer at some point here with a pretty significant uh
58:01 GPU kick because if this was two years
58:05 ago I would have been completely on board with what you just said like oh
58:09 it's a short car that's going to look super stupid because I was one of like the bigger haters of the whatever that
58:16 card was you run an 800d yes and you're
58:19 thinking of the 670 The the that one
58:22 yeah I hated that the performance grade inia like
58:27 like that that bugged me so much but
58:30 yeah I think it would be fine now but so many people are building smaller builds
58:33 yep like looking at my 800d now it's just like the only reason why I have
58:37 that is because I haven't upgraded anything in my computer in a long time
58:40 so AMD has way overdone the cooling they've got a scythe gentle typhoon type
58:45 fan on it it's 120 mm rad uh the thermal
58:48 limit of the GPU is apparently 75° so they want to keep it cool for some
58:52 reason very interesting um it has a 275
58:55 Watt PP with a 500 watt capable cooler
58:59 at the at the at the Target please don't go higher than this temperature yeah
59:03 very interesting um the R9 Fury non x uh
59:07 we don't have as much detail about so fewer course than the X and it does not
59:13 have a reference design we've seen NVIDIA do this kind of thing before oh
59:18 apparently they want Luke to turn mic volume up I know I don't know if I can
59:24 okay I can turn myself down a little I I just I can never the volume dial on
59:28 this thing is for my monitoring isn't it
59:31 there maybe that's a little bit bit better okay so um blah blah blah blah
59:36 blah right we've seen NVIDIA do this before where every card will be a
59:39 non-reference card and quite frankly it probably makes sense in this case since
59:45 um if they were doing a reference card I'm I'm assuming on a lower cost card
59:49 like this they would want to do a blower design and the aftermarket guys are
59:53 going to want to put open air coolers on them and they're not going to want to
59:57 sell blowers anyway and the blower is probably not going to be that effective
60:00 if the TDP is anywhere near the the 290 or the the fury X I mean even you know
60:05 we saw the same thing with Titan X like it's that cooler design is great on a
60:12 980 not as great on a titanx or not
60:15 great at all that's why oh I'm I'm I'm highly frustrated with Zotac right now I
60:20 love those guys but they really should have sent me the Arctic Storm Titan X
60:26 because I really want to see what you can do with like a good not that air
60:31 cooler on a Titan X you know what we uh
60:34 we have two Titan X's we could sacrifice one of them to the water block Gods
60:37 maybe just um you know what maybe we could do some maybe we could do like
60:41 some water cooling content over the next little bit here because you wanted to oh
60:45 I can't reveal that okay well whatever there could be some water cooling
60:49 content coming yes okay so let's talk
60:52 let's talk Fiji architecture for a little bit here run away AMD says it
60:56 took nearly 7 years to develop um they're thinking about releasing all the
61:00 data needed to 3D print your own side covers for the card shoud which is
61:04 pretty neat encouraging modding is always something that looks good for
61:08 these companies to do and cost them nothing um AMD put nine LEDs on the back
61:12 of a card that allow you to see GPU load level it's not the first time we've seen
61:15 something like this there's uh two dip switches on the back plate that allow
61:19 you to enable or disabled the GPU Tac and allows you to change the color of
61:22 the LEDs between red and blue to match your case theme better there's also a
61:26 light that goes on if their zero core power mode is enabled um one thing that
61:31 I really like s to jump in here is that they did the like nine little LEDs for
61:35 for load level because one thing that's been driving me insane is multicolored
61:41 RGB load level indicators on
61:44 cards it's like what the HCK I I don't
61:48 want my like all red and black badass card in my all red and black badass
61:52 system to randomly be like green right
61:55 no what are you doing this is not Christmas I am playing games or I am not
62:00 playing games stop it so I'm I'm very
62:04 happy with the the little like line of LEDs idea like how hard can you hit the
62:09 hammer make the thing go up style instead of multicolored LEDs right yes
62:16 um so onto more more Fiji architecture
62:19 stuff this is this is really a little disappointing actually um the GPU does
62:23 not support HDMI 2.0 it is running my
62:26 1.4a with that said I can't really think
62:29 of a no I can think of a reason it would be really nice for TVs with HDMI 2.0
62:35 like if you want to game on a TV uh it's going to be hard to find a DisplayPort
62:39 TV it would have been super sick if you could uh if you could handle 4K 60 HZ on
62:43 a TV so that's like sort of kind of
62:46 disappoint um but there's other really
62:50 cool stuff so for the I don't know first time in a while I guess AMD has really
62:57 leapfrogged NVIDIA in a way that I'm sure NVIDIA is going to be playing down
63:01 to the best of their ability because NVIDIA is still on GDDR and AMD has
63:07 spent a lot of time and a lot of effort on hbm so that's their High Bend width
63:12 memory technology um so what this is is
63:15 effectively the RAM is sitting like
63:18 physically it's actually physically smaller CU they're stacking it instead
63:22 of laying it out flat and it is physically closer to the GPU for much
63:28 much higher memory bandwidth than we've seen before with that said um memory
63:35 bandwidth overclocking has typically not done a whole lot not lately me and Luke
63:41 over the last couple of years but there are benefits that might not be
63:45 immediately apparent so the power consumption savings is a big one the
63:49 fact that you can now take more of your power tuning and throw it at the GPU
63:54 instead of the memory since you're limited by how much the PCI Express
63:58 specification allows you to pull through a slot and the and the power plugs that
64:02 go into it so that's a benefit and I
64:05 mean I guess well that's that's a big benefit and what we can do with more
64:09 memory bandwidth in the future is something that is yet to be unlocked by
64:13 developers and so more is better one
64:17 problem that AMD is downplaying Hardcore
64:20 right now and I'm really not sure if I agree with is that R9 Fury X and R9 Fury
64:26 are going to launch with 4 gigs memory Max so four 1 gig uh Stacks next to the
64:34 GPU um and with AMD sort of trumpeting
64:38 the benefits of 4 gig back when they launched Hawaii with the 290x uh for 4K
64:44 gaming and kind of going yep 4 gigs is
64:48 still enough when NVIDIA has traditionally been the one to let AMD
64:52 throw more memory at their cards and then um kind of put the right amount of
64:57 memory per GPU um to have AMD kind of
65:00 going yep yep 4 gigs is enough um but we're going to work on 8 gigs later is
65:05 is a bit of a difficult message for me to swallow but I understand why whether
65:09 it's yields or whether it's pure availability of chips they are should do
65:14 a uh we've been talking about doing this for a little while now and it's
65:18 complicated but we should do a deeper dive how much vram are we using in
65:23 different situations video um NCI Tech tips actually did one not that long ago
65:28 um and the truth of the matter is that even gaming at 4K you are very unlikely
65:33 to exceed four gigs of memory usage yeah but the problem with that is you can get
65:38 damn close today and there's a lot of
65:42 games like look look at how PE E3 was
65:45 yeah there's a lot of games and a lot of games like Grand Theft Auto 5 that are
65:50 going to have a lot of mods that are going to ask for a lot of video memory
65:53 and if you could have super fast and know people that have gotten over four
65:56 gigs with Skyrim mhm absolutely oh yeah
65:59 for sure like a lot of times yep so I
66:04 mean that was how AMD Justified the release of the R9 290x with 8 gigs and
66:08 then the funny part here is that 390 and 390x fly right in the face of that
66:13 message that four gigs is enough these are lower end cards that AMD is throwing
66:16 8 gigs of memory at yeah so that's
66:20 pretty brutal yeah I mean it's all going to
66:24 come down to Performance and at the end of the day if the fury X crushes the 980
66:28 TI even in spite of its you know 2 gigs less memory I think a lot of people are
66:33 going to run to it and the fact that the form factor is so different is a really
66:37 unique selling point for me um so I really like it I'm excited to check it
66:41 out uh it turns out ours is in the mail and is scheduled for delivery today oh
66:47 okay has show up yet no it hasn't they sent it to my house because there're a
66:52 bunch of people who don't ask where to ship things
66:56 and don't tell me that they shipped it well they don't usually ship us things
66:59 they're like I'm like yeah so I I saw the review embargo date so are you
67:03 planning to send one at all they're like oh yeah it's already in the mail I'm like well don't you think maybe you
67:08 should actually check with me before you mail things to me like what what if and
67:12 what if this was an alternate universe and I didn't have time like what if I
67:15 actually wasn't going to have a video up would you it would already be in the
67:18 mail like don't you think you should check these things with people like what
67:21 what if I what if I broke my leg yesterday and I actually can't benchmark
67:25 the fury X or some injury that would actually prevent me from benchmarking a
67:29 graphics card we both broke our legs yesterday and and hands yeah yeah yeah
67:34 anyway so I'm hoping that my wife I'm
67:37 hoping that they'll they'll drop it um and my wife can can get it in time
67:42 otherwise it'll show up Monday at my house which is super dumb because
67:47 that'll give us like one day basically to make a video about it just we've done
67:51 it before I know but it's not a good thing and it's involved like
67:57 copious amounts of overtime yeah um all
68:01 right so moving on yeah moving moving
68:05 happen uh this was a really cool article uh posted on the Forum by jbird and it's
68:10 the uh the features that Apple didn't tell you about iOS 9 and some of them
68:16 are like really cool and some of them are just like holy cow it took long
68:21 enough um so you can pinch to zoom in and out on a video now
68:25 um they give you detailed battery usage for the last 24 and last 72 hours um you
68:32 can do you can group notifications by app uh you can disable shake to
68:38 undo y yeah that's good um Touch ID
68:43 protected passwords in Safari uh some there's some new stock apps quick reply
68:48 for all apps um you can turn off all vibrations
68:55 upper case keyboard Keys you guys should check that out if you're an iPhone user
68:59 it's definitely worth checking out because there's always the stuff in the keynote and then there's the actually
69:04 like oh wow this is super useful I wish they'd mentioned it stuff after the fact
69:08 when I was using my iPhone I immediately installed swift key iPhone didn't have
69:12 uppercase and lowercase
69:15 keyboards what swift key for iOS the
69:18 last time I used it was still kind of terad though it's it's bad but I
69:22 switched anyways cuz it knew my typing profile and stuff
69:25 right so I was like sure man but it was yeah I did not like that that one of the
69:29 things I really didn't like about the iPhone as a key I mean last time around that was one of the big the big things
69:35 it's like thank you you finally support third party keyboards wish this had
69:39 happened a long time ago yeah all right
69:42 so let's talk input devices here this
69:45 this is a thing um third party third
69:50 party Fancy Pants controllers have been
69:53 available for some time time um whether
69:57 it's for the Xbox or Playstation or PC
70:00 or whatever but I have not yet seen a first
70:06 party controller of this magnitude so
70:10 the Xbox One Elite controller was announced at
70:14 E3 um it features four interchangeable
70:18 paddles around the back hair trigger locks for precise control and Shooters
70:23 remappable buttons completely swappable
70:26 components including like you can change out the d-pad um stain the stainless
70:30 steel paddles are removable but when they're attached they allow you to keep
70:33 your fingers on the thumb sticks at all times we've seen like janky modded ones
70:38 in the past that are just like they replicate the functionality of other
70:41 buttons but um full customization of
70:44 thumbstick sensitivity and minimum min max levels for the controller's top
70:48 triggers and these settings along with button mapping are handled through a
70:53 standalone app that will be released for Xbox One and Windows 10 so with all this
70:59 talk about valve's new controller and
71:02 with the third party Innovation that's happened and the fact that Microsoft
71:06 other than you know making the original Xbox controller actually holdable by
71:11 real people with normal siiz hands and then streamlining the Xbox 360
71:16 controller it seems like Microsoft has taken notice and is
71:20 actually maybe going to capture our attention with this Xbox One platform
71:25 after after all it's expensive as hell yeah it's $150 if all that sounded great
71:30 until the price I don't blame you yeah
71:33 um your controller preferences are stored in the cloud the game pad itself
71:36 can carry around two user profiles like it actually looks kind of badass but hey we got to
71:42 we got to straw pull this um chat badass I I'll create I'll create a straw pull
71:47 um sure interested in and remember guys
71:50 you don't have to be an Xbox gamer to to buy this it's going to be for the PC the
71:54 dong the dongle coming the dongle announced for the PC the wireless dongle
72:00 M uh controllers are super important
72:03 even for PC guys if you want to play racing games if you want to play a lot
72:07 of just action games I I personally think Assassin's Creed plays better with
72:11 a uh controller yeah I I played team Raider 2013 with a controller for sure
72:17 um and speaking of racing games Logitech
72:20 did announce the G29 at E3 I haven't
72:23 actually looked into it a ton but I'm I'm hoping to uh get our hands on a
72:27 review unit of that the problem is that they're releasing the oh crap I forget
72:31 what they're calling it but the the PlayStation exclusive one
72:35 first um so IID kind of sent in a
72:38 request for an engineering sample of the PC compatible and Xbox One and I haven't
72:43 heard back or anything yet so look at
72:47 these votes do you have this up no
72:50 interested in buying an Xbox Elite controller 38% interview at
72:57 $150 here I'll send you the link I'm not crazy
73:01 surprised um but I'm I'm a little
73:05 surprised I'm very happy that turnup has at least
73:08 24% yeah vote vote for turnup you guys
73:12 turnup is turnup is turnup is uh love and life and all that but 40% of you are
73:17 interested in the Xbox Elite controller this is a half and half mix that is a I
73:21 mean obviously this isn't you know a painstakingly crafted you know market
73:25 research survey but
73:29 wow after working controllers are a thing I don't know I like really nice
73:33 controllers Co I mean before benate one of uh unbox therapy's top uh top Feud
73:40 videos was some some Xbox controller yeah I forget which one it is uh Xbox
73:46 controller I'll search for it the Avenger oh no the Scuf Controller scuff
73:52 yeah that makes sense no no Avenger Elite was that's weird no end control
73:57 Avenger 5.7 million views was a play
74:01 aftermarket PlayStation 3 controller with like it looks like a Swiss army
74:05 knife yeah um what else we got
74:13 today oh right the other big thing that Microsoft announced backwards
74:17 compatibility for the Xbox one even
74:21 servers wow dropping
74:25 bombs at E3 I mean I think Luke you and
74:28 I both agreed Nintendo won E3 last year right yeah not this year last year
74:33 though this year I mean can you imagine
74:37 this did Microsoft just win E3 wasn't
74:40 there a ton of PlayStation game announcements I guess the PC yeah I I
74:44 guess it was just a okay but come on I mean Sony's got Sony's downplaying this
74:48 already because Sony has changed the architectural design of their consoles
74:52 so dramatically from generation to generation particular particularly with the Cell last gen yeah that emulation is
74:59 just impossible like early PlayStation 3s needed PS2 Hardware in them and the
75:06 PlayStation 4 never had any kind of backwards compatibility whatsoever yeah
75:11 so Sony is obviously going to downplay this but backwards compatibility is huge
75:16 I mean you look at any other art form
75:20 and we're thinking about we're like we're actively making efforts to
75:23 preserve it and gaming short of PC
75:27 emulation which is becoming less and less feasible over time as you know um
75:33 alternative controller schemes like like how how are you going to play a Wii game
75:37 unless you have a Wiimote if it's an actually weote optimized game can you
75:41 not hook a wi mode up to a PC I think there's janky ways that you can like Foo
75:46 do it but it's it's never going to be mainstream it's never going to be like
75:51 um you know like like the way that people buy a poster though like
75:55 eventually emulating Xbox one and PlayStation 4 shouldn't be that hard
76:00 PS3 um I mean I don't I don't want to use the nword but like that may never
76:09 happen um and so for Hardware
76:12 particularly Hardware someone will get it someone will figure out something but
76:16 I doubt it'll ever be perfect in much the same way that even Nintendo 64
76:20 emulation is still not perfect it's just a little sketchy there's some there's
76:24 some dips and ups and too much doesn't really run right yeah some games that
76:28 don't work right so particularly if the device that runs your art form I mean if
76:33 we treat games like art has an optical drive in it it will die so unless we're
76:40 you know unless all of these guys have like a warehouse of pristine condition
76:44 consoles or have plans to open source the hardware at some point so people can
76:49 continue to enjoy this content for like let's not even think years let's think
76:54 decades or let's think you know centuries from now it's not like we
76:57 don't appreciate art from you know the the Middle Ages how are we going to
77:02 preserve Playstation One gaming for our children's children's children I don't
77:07 know it's it's an interesting question because you look at what's happened to a
77:11 lot of the old consoles it just doesn't exist anymore or you're doing like what
77:16 I'm doing which is just hoard old
77:20 consoles and old games and even that's going to be limited to guys who have
77:23 like in the in the case of cart you're limited in some cases to guys who
77:27 have the skills to like solder new batteries yeah I mean they barely work
77:33 and that's that's a lot better than an optical drive yep I have a number of NES
77:37 games that you can't um the like internal batteries or
77:42 whatnot are dead and or even SNES games
77:45 and just exactly and the PC is much much
77:49 better at this uh thanks to the boat anchor that holds us back in a lot of
77:53 ways that is x86 but these completely closed Garden
77:58 consoles are just going to Fade Into
78:03 Obscurity I don't know I I worry about
78:06 that yeah well I I don't know I do we
78:10 have any more topics uh I think that was everything I
78:14 really wanted to get through uh oh yeah I've got this is just kind of a fun one
78:19 so I really hope I don't offend any of you uhoh but this is like the world's
78:24 saddest thing ever um real doll is a company making silicone sex dolls and
78:30 they are upgrading them in a significant Manner and I don't mean upgrading your
78:35 sexo can you like chat with them remotely so um they are making AI heads
78:44 for their existing silicone sex doll
78:47 object things that will kind of act like
78:51 they like what you're doing uh with
78:54 plans to release so they're planning to have those available by 2017 with plans
78:59 to release fullbody animated sex bots um
79:03 in the future that will cost up to $777,000 now what I can say is that's
79:09 nothing compared to a real woman
79:15 but come on
79:19 really uh the article here is from new.com Australia and the funny thing
79:25 about anything sex related is there's always going to be like a like a sexpert
79:29 you know that they contact for comment on an article like this and the thing
79:33 about sex perts is that with very few exceptions a lot of this is pseudo
79:37 scientific nonsense um so you could find a sexpert
79:42 to agree with you on anything doesn't matter so they probably
79:47 went out and contacted a half a dozen sexperts and just found one that thought
79:51 this was a good idea and one that thought it was a bad idea and the one that it was a good idea it was just like
79:55 oh well yeah you know you know for some people interacting with other people is
80:01 you know whether they're like busy at work is is not as good as having a
80:05 silicone doll and like that's I'm
80:08 like really like really I maybe maybe maybe
80:13 I'm going to be like one of those like weird people maybe you're the caveman
80:18 whoa don't think I can scroll down anymore maybe I'm the cave so I want to
80:22 hear from you guys straw pull straw pull it yeah sex doll uh yes uh to
80:30 augment uh RL relationship yes to
80:35 replace no and everyone's favorite
80:42 turnip and this is just general probably vote turnip as in like I don't care at
80:47 all do whatever you want bro well yeah
80:50 okay that's another thing I'm not saying they should be illegal or anything just
80:54 to be clear when I say yuck I mean me
80:57 personally yuck I don't mean that you can't do whatever you want but I also
81:02 think that if we were to if you were like my bro and we were to sit down and
81:05 have a heart tohe heart you know like let's just like let's talk about whether
81:09 this is a good idea you know for for your well-being I'd be like I don't
81:14 think this is a good idea I think that having real contact with real people is
81:19 important even if we do it digitally like I think something like uh Skype to
81:24 to you is is better than just talking to
81:27 an to an AI um and in much the same way
81:30 that having a relationship with a person is just even if it's just like practice
81:36 Skyping Skyping might even be Skyping to
81:39 a real person might not even be as constructive emotionally as talking to
81:44 an AI in person depending on how developed the AI is it's a good point
81:49 okay so let's post it uh oh oh did I not
81:53 post it I don't think so I thought I did people are voting yeah I'll s it to
81:58 you um and I mean here's the thing too
82:02 though is what we're talking about right now is year 2017 AI I don't think anyone
82:08 should spend $77,000 on that Ai Se in
82:12 particular yeah yeah I'm I'm sure it's going to be
82:18 trash but it's like the early adopter idea probably I would assume it must be
82:23 cuz it's going to be super bad bad like look at look at uh even like hugely
82:27 commercialized Solutions where it's not like a very
82:31 very narrow Market any form of AI or like voice voice control even voice
82:35 detection is just garbage so like what
82:39 do you expect from this it's not going to be great all right so uh 42% of you
82:44 are on the turnip bandwagon with 32% of you saying no um 177% of you saying yes
82:50 to augment a real life relationship and let's face it there's lots of people out
82:55 there that have sex dolls like it's it's
82:58 a thing it exists um and I mean it's
83:01 it's one of those things where I guess you know as long as you're sort of honest with each other and as long as
83:05 everyone's like cool then that's that's great and then we've got 10% of you
83:09 saying yes you know I'm I'm too busy or
83:12 I it's not my thing I'm not a people person yes that that is a that is an
83:17 acceptable substitute for me very interesting well there you go it's always nice to hear from you guys
83:21 because you you can open my eyes a lot of the time I mean the one hosting the
83:25 show and Luke's hosting the show but a lot of the times it's you guys sort of
83:29 telling us like what's actually going on out there cuz we're only we're only two
83:33 people I'm pretty excited that we're talking about sex dolls in front of 6533
83:37 people I'm pretty excited that
83:41 um those people might get to watch me in
83:45 aexx doll in the Afterparty actually no that's not happening um yeah no thank
83:49 you all very much tuned in after party ever yeah I'm actually proba probably
83:54 not doing an after party cuz I think like there's someone pacing outside this
83:58 conference room I think I told them I was going to be done at 6 and it is now
84:01 6:05 so I think that's pretty much it
84:04 for the show today guys thank you all so much for tuning in and we will see you
84:08 again next week same bat Time same bat Channel bye I will not be streaming the
84:13 internet at my place is just dumb and doesn't let me stream for whatever
84:17 reason so once we finally get the new office going and that super badass
84:20 apparently delayed internet connection I'll start my personal stream up then
84:23 again for people that wondering are you going to be streaming from the office
84:26 yeah oh okay I told you that before did you oh okay yeah you actually I had
84:32 already decided that I wanted to do it and then you suggested it this is why
84:35 this is why my life is so exciting I get to learn new things even when they're
84:40 not new okay let me roll the outro all
84:47 right no oh the outro
84:51 failed uh
84:55 um okay oh now the computer's freezing
85:02 Squarespace oh it's cuz directories have changed that makes sense Squarespace is
85:07 awesome yay fresh books is also awesome fresh books and
85:11 l.com okay bye
