evaluation of the temperatures of the new card under idle and load conditions
0:11
so remember that the load that I'm going to show you today is going to be kind of
0:14
a worst case scenario running furmark and the idle is well that's that's a
0:20
pretty typical scenario but it's still a bit of a best case because I am running
0:24
on an open test bench and your CPU CPU wow your computer k
0:30
is actually going to keep things a little bit toastier than an open test
0:34
bench just because of the recycling of the air that's being used to cool the
0:38
components so our idle temperature for this brand new GPU from NVIDIA is
0:42
actually 38° and it does that at a fan speed of
0:47
about 40% well exactly 40% which equates
0:51
to almost 1,400 RPM and
0:58
uh yeah so that's for straightforward isn't it so I'll show you the load
1:02
temperatures as well as compare it to its predecessor which was often
1:07
criticized for running too hot the GTX
1:11
480 for the GP Leu load comparison on
1:15
the GTX 580 you can see I've got fir Mark running here in extreme burning
1:19
mode and you can see the uh the Ryzen
1:23
temperature while I held a piece of paper over the intake of the fan so that
1:27
it wouldn't so that it would heat up pretty quickly so that I could get my
1:31
results and uh you can see it actually settled down into a temperature of 69°
1:38
cus okay you can see that is backed up by afterburner over here with the fan
1:42
running at about 53 to
1:46
54% which is about uh 1,920 RPM so
1:50
that's not bad at all and that's quite cool compared to other firmy based cards
1:56
mind you this is gf10 not gf100 that
1:59
we're talking about it's a whole new
2:02
Beast the idol reading for the GTX 480
2:06
really does tell the story despite this card being significantly less powerful
2:11
than the 580 it runs significantly and I
2:15
am overusing that word hotter than the GTX 580 so it idles at a whopping
2:21
47° and that's with a fan RPM of over 1500 RPM bear in mind these are using a
2:27
fairly similar fan although the cooler
2:30
design is quite different because the GTX 480 uses heat pipes whereas the GTX
2:37
580 actually uses a vapor chamber design that is hidden by the plastic
2:43
shroud so if you weren't aware already Yes GTX
2:48
480s reputation for running toasty is
2:52
well enough deserved so we've got the fan RPM up around uh almost 3,000 RPM
2:58
with a speed of 7 2 1% and we are still
3:03
at 92° that's very very hot especially
3:08
considering we are running on an open test platform in a reasonable
3:13
temperature room now when you have a GTX 480 running nonstop in uh in a normal
3:19
size room it will actually heat up the room several degrees so uh that fan is
3:24
actually going to go higher when it's inside a case in a warmer room so the
3:29
GTX 580 is a huge improvement over the
3:34
GTX 480 in that regard I sure wish I had something newer
3:39
from AMD to compare against the GTX 580
3:43
uh wink wink nudge nudge but I guess the
3:46
5870 will just have to do for now so you can see we're running at about 38° and
3:51
that is with a fan speed percentage of only about 20% so we'll show you the
3:56
load temperatures and uh
4:00
that'll be in just a moment so I guess we kind of know this already but there
4:04
we go the 5870 it's been on the market for a while loads at about 85° with a
4:09
fan speed of yeah only about 37% so you
4:12
could tweak the fan profile a little bit if you wanted set it up so that that fan
4:17
ramps up a little bit more and gives you better temperatures but honestly it's
4:20
not necessary it's designed to run just fine at that temperature like I said
4:25
we'll have something better to compare this with the uh 58 80 against compare
4:32
against the 580 from AMD fairly soon thank you for checking out my video on
