0:00 we've been using our ultimaker 2 for over a year now and in that time we've
0:04 printed everything from GoPro mounts to RAM storage trays to projectiles for a
0:09 vacuum Cannon it's an incredibly useful tool but it has left us wanting not
0:15 being able to print models with complex overhangs multiple materials or colors
0:20 and the need to set up a janky webcam rig to monitor prints when we're away
0:25 from the office has been frustrating then there's the performance issues the
0:30 main one that we ran into was with the feeder the hot motor was too close to
0:35 the thermally conductive gears meaning that instead of moving the filament the
0:39 gears would also melt the filament and it's these types of issues that well
0:44 outside of the Monstrous cost are a big part of what's preventing 3D printing
0:48 from reaching the mainstream right now let's see what ultimaker is bringing to
0:52 the table with their third generation ultimaker 3 which they claim makes
0:56 professional 3D printing accessible
1:08 the B quiet purebase 600 features a versatile design noise isolation and is
1:12 optimized for different liquid radiator configurations learn more at the link
1:16 below first on ultimaker 3's laundry list of usability improvements is dual
1:21 Extrusion oh my God I couldn't be more
1:25 excited for this yes there were ways that you could do it before but it
1:29 wasn't made for it so now we can make
1:32 stuff like this using two different colors in one model it's awesome no more
1:37 after print modding for this pla Soldier
1:41 you can just have the material be the color you desire in the first place
1:45 which will not only look better but will hold up better over time as well then
1:49 there's PVA ultimaker PVA is a dissolvable filament what basically you
1:56 can use print core AA to extrude normal
1:59 CLA filament plastic stuff what we've
2:02 been using for a while now then you can hot swap print core BB into the other
2:07 side of the Dual extruder it has custom
2:11 nozzle geometry optimized for support materials in this case it's just the
2:15 stuff I just mentioned it's PVA PVA stands for polyvinyl alcohol it's a
2:20 water soluble support material that works perfectly alongside dual Extrusion
2:25 printers to help create complex models models with large overhangs or even
2:30 models with deep internal cavities this incredibly Satisfied Man demonstrates
2:35 how you can use PVA alongside pla to
2:38 print something amazingly complex then
2:42 just add water and the end result is
2:46 Magic inspired we decided to print our
2:49 own awesome thing Tyler found this badass Chinese lion statue that needed
2:53 support filament and it worked great the whole process from dunking it into the
2:58 water to rinsing it off in the sink and yes it is safe to dissolve into tap
3:03 water and pour down the drain because it's fully biodegradable it took about 2
3:08 hours and finally second on the list is the printer's much improved
3:12 accessibility instead of just a full-sized SD card slot which it really
3:17 should have been USB if you were just going to have one option you can now
3:21 send print jobs over well USB type A a
3:24 land connection on the back of the unit or even Wi-Fi which is awesome third
3:30 place we have the built-in webcam its resolution is sort of garbage but it's
3:34 mostly okay it does what it's supposed to do allowing you to remotely monitor
3:38 the print so sorry if that triggers you or whatever but you don't need 4K 60fps
3:42 stream just to make sure it's not totally screwed and get on with the rest
3:46 of your day to be clear I'd never say no to high resolution and frame rate but
3:50 most print errors are so obvious anyways
3:53 that you'd probably want to go check it out in person even if you needed that
3:57 more resolution the fourth awesome feature is smart material detection when
4:02 you put a material spool or filament spool onto the back of the ultimaker
4:05 containing an NFC chip your printer will read it and handle all of the Annoying
4:09 fine tuning like adjusting print head temperature and bed temperature and
4:13 other material specific settings this should help out newcomers in a huge way
4:18 and even reduce troubleshooting time for experienced users and on the expert
4:23 subject you can of course override those settings if you want which leaves us
4:27 with feature number five the auto leveling bed this isn't last because
4:32 it's unimpressive or anything there just isn't really a ton to say here the glass
4:36 plate the thing that you print things onto it auto levels now which is awesome
4:40 because manually leveling it was tedious
4:43 so it just does it itself now I'm repeating myself at this point that's
4:49 probably fine so in conclusion the overall quality of the final product
4:54 when printing a single filament model that's within the capabilities of both
4:58 printers and we tested this by by printing a test model with a bunch of
5:01 different types of geometry on it gives only a slight Edge to the ultimaker 3
5:06 which only stood out because it did a better job with the bridge at the top of
5:10 the thing most improvements are more to do with quality of life which isn't a
5:15 criticism because overall reliability was an obvious point of focus the
5:19 ability to print with two different colors types of materials or even
5:23 dissolvable materials is amazing the
5:26 complexity and functionality of the tools and widgets that we can build is
5:31 going to Skyrocket but after that rocket has been flying for a few hours well
5:36 it's going to get to the price of this unit the ultimaker 3 costs about three
5:41 times as much as the car that I bought when I turned 16 this is a serious
5:46 investment and unlike previous ultim makers which seem to be geared towards
5:50 affluent enthusiasts I expect only people running some form of business
5:54 will end up purchasing one of these country roll is a site created by
