0:00 it's been more than a month since I replaced the LG 65 eg9600
0:05 65in curved OLED 4K TV in my living room
0:09 with LG's brand new Signature Series OLED 65
0:14 g6p thanks LGBT dubs the birthday cake
0:17 was cool but this is better now last time around I was blown away by the
0:23 massive improvements to image quality compared to my old 1080p LCD that were
0:29 made possible by the switch to OLED pixels and four times as many of them at
0:33 that but have we reached the point of
0:36 diminishing returns or is the 2016
0:40 Flagship another Quantum Leap Forward thanks to the industry's next big
0:45 buzzword HDR let's
0:56 discuss Corsair boasts unrivaled comfort
1:00 and Universal compatibility on its void surround headset featuring a genuine
1:04 Dolby 7.1 headphone USB adapter check
1:07 out the link in the video description to learn more the G6 as I'll be calling it
1:13 for the rest of the review cuz it's fly is gorgeous in ways that I've always
1:19 been able to appreciate like the way the organic light emitting diodes the oleds
1:24 are so close to the surface of their glass backing that they almost seem to
1:28 be floating there dramatically improving resistance to glare and viewing angles
1:33 to new ways I mean it's funny how your
1:36 perspective changes over time there was a point in my life not long ago mind you
1:41 that a display a monitor or a TV was all
1:45 about the panel it could be in a cardboard box housing for all I cared as
1:50 long as the image quality was the best that I could get for as few dollars as
1:55 possible and yet now that I'm older I
1:58 find it a easier to appreciate the value of a
2:02 beautifully designed enclosure for my TV because I view it as a piece of
2:06 furniture as much as a window to my Netflix fix and B easier to justify the
2:13 price increase that comes with better industrial design because of how much
2:18 the pieces surrounding it managed to cost without having a TV inside them and
2:23 people judge you if your stuff sucks being an adult is kind of a bummer
2:28 unless you have the sexy toys on the block though right the first thing I was
2:33 blown away by with the G6 was its thinness feels like we're saying this
2:37 every year doesn't it but this time it's different the protective piece of
2:42 cardboard in the box is almost the same
2:45 thickness as the entire display assembly
2:48 at least that is until you get down to the somewhat blocky integrated Soundbar
2:52 power supply and video input box stand
2:56 thing at the bottom I mean let's face it putting all that stuff down there then
3:01 calling your display 2.57 mm thick is a
3:04 bit of a hack isn't it though this does
3:08 raise the question do I care if they hack whether it's Samsung's one connect
3:14 or LG's bulky power input base everyone
3:18 is pulling stuff out of the TV now because it no longer physically fits in
3:22 order for them to hit new thinness targets but I just don't
3:28 care but if I don't care about that and
3:31 likely neither do you did I care about
3:34 the rest of it being thinner in the first place what kind of TV could they
3:39 make if they didn't stress out about that I'll probably never know so I'll
3:43 just have to live with LG's approach which isn't terrible since they did a
3:47 lot of things right including using
3:50 their hack to have the integrated Harmon Cardon co-branded speaker bar fired
3:55 directly at The Listener instead of downward the next thing they did right
4:00 is the image quality I still lack an HDR
4:04 capable pattern generator to measure this stuff exactly so for now all I can
4:09 really do is put it in the words of my wife with whom I did blind AB testing
4:14 between an SDR and an HDR master of
4:17 Sony's camping demo clip my first instinct is this one looks better
4:22 referring to the HDR one it feels like I can see more detail even though the
4:26 scene seems darker the colors look almost more vibrant and that's HDR in a
4:33 nutshell it took me a while to wrap my
4:36 brain around this but it doesn't manifest so much as a difference in
4:41 color as it does as a difference in
4:45 contrast that makes a dark scene with bright lights for example look less
4:50 washed out because it's not trying to cram everything into this narrower
4:55 contrast and color space it's more about
4:59 how it feels more natural and more true
5:02 to what it would be like if you were if you were sitting there though taking
5:08 advantage of this requires that the content is mastered in HDR at all then
5:13 beyond that that it's mastered in HDR in a way that you the viewer will find
5:18 pleasing I was really struggling with my
5:21 comparison between my old set and the new one watching Marco Polo on Netflix
5:27 colors Skies landscapes skin tones were
5:30 all clearly better on the G6 but I had
5:34 to crank the OLED brightness even in the bright HDR preset to make out any
5:39 details in the shadows at all well I don't know if it was the G6 firmware
5:45 update or the Netflix app update but instead of just saying HDR in the top
5:50 Corner partway through my time with the TV it's started telling me if it was
5:55 hdr10 or the competing Dolby Vision
5:58 standard the G 6 supports both and the
6:01 Netflix app doesn't allow you to manually choose so watching hdr10 only
6:07 content like LG's chess demo side by
6:10 side the superiority of the newer display is obvious in the reflections
6:15 off the king's armor and the glistening off all this Chinese stuff which means
6:20 then that I just don't seem to like the Dolby Vision master of Marco Polo as
6:25 much as the HDR 101 that was the problem
6:29 thankfully unlike most manufacturers LG at least supports both of those
6:33 standards but I would like to see them take it one step further and allow me to
6:37 set a preferred one and or switch between them at will because other than
6:41 that the thing looks amazing which
6:45 doesn't mean that they didn't do anything wrong the first one is a
6:49 relatively minor one but what the actual F moment for sure the power cord is
6:54 permanently attached I mean I guess
6:57 anyone who can afford an $8,000 TV can also afford a $5 extension cord but come
7:02 on and the second one is much bigger LG
7:07 and other TV makers too need to wake up
7:10 to gaming there simply isn't any excuse
7:14 anymore I don't expect anyone to give a
7:17 rat's ass about the half dozen people other than me that are running gaming
7:21 PCs in their living rooms but in 3 years since it launched the PlayStation 4 has
7:25 sold over 40 million consoles stop IGN
7:29 ignoring this maybe if everyone complains they'll deal with it next year
7:34 that's apparently why the curve screen is gone by the way and the G6 follows
7:38 directly in the footsteps of its predecessor astonishing image quality to
7:42 the point where anything else just kind of looks me but if it appears that a
7:46 conscious decision has been made by LG to say screw it to input leg in favor of
7:52 concentrating almost entirely on image quality then it's because that's exactly
7:57 what happened even in game mode it's slow so the bottom line then is the G6
8:03 is a fascinating product the onboard processor is tangibly faster that same
8:08 air mouse Magic Remote interface that I really like is still here LG's software
8:13 isn't Android TV but it has a Plex app and a Netflix app which is pretty much
8:17 all that I really need and while OLED burning continues to be a concern to the
8:22 point where LG's interface even has an image quality restore routine that takes
8:26 an hour to run my year old panel with adequate care continues to behave well
8:32 which leaves us with the bottom line would I pay $8,000 for this TV
8:38 no the law of diminishing returns hits pretty hard once you've crossed over
8:44 into OLED territory at all but would I
8:47 say it's the best viewing experience I've ever had if you simply don't care
8:52 about money and you're willing to compromise on gaming then yes yes I
8:57 would which isn't to say that you always have to Fork out a ton of money to get
