0:00 all right guys welcome to the lonus tech tips live stream with special guest
0:06 slick uh well you were a special guest at one point at the at the beginning
0:12 yeah like like a long long time ago yeah
0:15 that was that was like six months ago no
0:19 must have been more it was it was December it was before lonus Media Group
0:23 split out on its own yeah it was either December or like late November yeah cuz
0:27 that was when my ARM was messed up yeah that was so that like you were in school
0:30 still oh no that was a long time ago wow
0:34 that might have been before but you're still special oh long setup that was
0:38 that was a really long setup and not very nice either that was totally
0:41 worthwhile so guys welcome to the lonus tech tips live stream the we're going to
0:46 get pretty much right into it with a
0:49 Twitter Q&A blitz so get your Twitter
0:53 Q&A in right now while we just uh give
0:56 you some special messaging special messaging from Intel so guys if you
1:01 haven't checked it out Intel gaming promo.com is where you can check out
1:06 their gaming promo right now so it's a px Prime promo if you buy a Haswell CPU
1:11 if you know anyone who bought a Haswell CPU if you're going to buy a Haswell CPU
1:16 so any fourth generation processor guys
1:19 it go sign up for this promo because you have a chance to win the ultimate trick
1:23 to PX Prime which basically amounts to tickets and spending money and there's a
1:28 bunch of T's and C's on the their website but yeah if you know anyone who
1:32 bought one and they're willing to give you a copy of their receipt and they don't care about going to PAX Prime go
1:38 do it now do it now seriously cuz PX Prime tickets are actually really
1:42 expensive right now and really really hard to get unless
1:46 like yeah yeah all of that stuff so PX
1:50 Prime not paying for
1:53 it EA
2:04 oh wow that's early this time isn't it we there was no like actual reason to
2:09 even do it just bam well I don't think we actually have
2:13 any EA news this week no that's that's what I mean so we're just just just
2:17 taking a shot at them we also have some really exciting news about the
2:21 Afterparty this week so we didn't manage to 96 Super Mario World but I think we
2:26 kind of give up it's it's some ghost house somewhere and we can't tell cuz
2:30 the color on the pad doesn't change or something and just but we basically we
2:34 Bas yeah we basically give up so we're not going to bother doing that but what
2:39 we are going to do this live stream is we are going to experiment with our
2:43 system for having live callers call in so we're hoping to get that launched
2:49 with a special partner next week so we can do live calling in uh which I think
2:54 is going to be just really cool we're basically going to be caught up to radio
2:58 at that point in terms ofch technology
3:02 almost yay fist bump every fist bump for
3:05 something fail we should be
3:11 like sponsor us e e if you're watching
3:14 we'll stop ripping on you quite quite so hard cuz we're still gonna
3:20 rip all right let's go to the uh let's go to the Twitter boards here which is
3:24 what they call the phone boards when you're on a radio show which is what we'll be so we're directly comparing
3:29 ourselves to radio yeah well we're basically like radio but with
3:32 video and I think the thing's a
3:36 little yeah if we didn't have video then we wouldn't have these technical
3:39 difficulties yeah we should just do a radio show people have been asking for
3:42 it to be converted into podcast for a while radio that hard there was a
3:46 request for it to be podcasted that was the top comment
3:50 on okay I'm putting you in charge of that okay oh that was easy look at this
3:55 delation I love podcasts okay I like seriously hurt podcast so I have no
4:00 problem with doing that okay and I know like they don't get the craziest amount
4:04 of listeners but I I love podcasts all
4:07 right guys what technology on computers do you think is behind the rest display
4:11 is not good enough SATA not fast enough Etc you want to take this one SATA in my
4:16 opinion what's opinion yeah I cuz I don't think it's SATA at all I think
4:21 that what's actually too slow if we're going to talk storage alone is Nan flash
4:26 because right now an SSD can Max out a
4:30 SAT a bus but not when it's doing anything random yeah we're not even
4:35 close the drives are not the controllers aren't fast enough the nand isn't fast
4:39 enough nand is still way like storage
4:43 was so far behind and then SSD was
4:48 like I mean you look at how many orders of magnitude faster a current CPU is
4:53 compared to something 10 years ago and like how much F even with SSD and SATA 3
4:58 how fast storage is but it's not even close my angle on this is you're
5:02 completely right my angle on this though is that the drive manufacturers are not
5:06 super incentivized to push harder because when people are looking at benchmarks they see it get capped out
5:11 and then they're like oh so it's a difficult message and it's hard to sell
5:15 so why bother so why bother so if so if the cap on SATA gets removed I think
5:19 there'll be more incentive for the drive manufacturers to push harder well the
5:23 one that I still feel more strongly about than storage cuz as you know I'm a
5:26 storage dork like you've seen the setup I have in my system ssds awesome which
5:31 is by the way fast enough now just
5:34 saying um I I'm still going to go with displays because I see no reason like to
5:39 me the thing that's most offensive about displays is that we have the technology
5:45 for them to be there it's it's stupid standards like HDMI holding back
5:50 everything and for people who are like oh HDMI is whatever no HDMI is not
5:55 anything good HDMI is inferior in every
5:58 way other than size I don't use it for anything other than size it is inferior
6:03 in every way to DVI DVI can carry a digital and an analog signal super handy
6:08 when you have to Output to something analog DVI can carry twice the bandwidth
6:12 of HDMI DVI has a locking connector DVI
6:17 is much more difficult to break it can handle more insertions HDMI sucks there
6:22 I said it um and DisplayPort cannot come soon enough in terms of completely
6:27 replacing HDMI but I still like the fact that DVI can carry an analog signal and
6:32 if DVI got the same kind of TLC that HDMI gets if it was getting the double
6:37 bandwidth that HDMI is getting that finally gets it caught up to DVI finally
6:42 if DVI was getting that we'd be able to do 4K 60 HZ nothing compressed no
6:47 nothing with DVI no problem so yeah DVI
6:51 for the win DVI forever like respect to DVI we can't do a fail fist bunt no we
6:55 can't uh because DVI is amazing um so so
6:59 dis interfaces are one of the things holding it back but that's still not an
7:03 excuse because we have DisplayPort it is capable of it if they can build a
7:07 1080p screen this big then they can build a 4K screen that's four times this
7:11 big and I don't care what the yields are because you look at the bomb cost for
7:14 these phones that includes processor nand RAM screen touchscreen interface
7:20 chassis everything if you're going to tell me you can't build a 4k monitor
7:24 that's like 24 in for less than you know 500 600 bucks BS so displays are way
7:29 behind and it's offensive because we have the tech we're just refusing to use
7:33 it because we're putting everything into phones um okay next one sorry that ended
7:38 up going pretty long okay shout out to Dylan shout out to Stefano who are both
7:42 watching for the first time uh did you sign any kind of a contract with Noctua
7:46 uh no actually I didn't apparently the image is quite bad I don't think I think
7:50 it is a bit blurry CU I think we were sitting forward when we focused I can I
7:55 can try and fix it do you want me to try and fix it sure okay sit where you're
7:59 going to sit how's that no that's way worse I'm
8:03 just kidding how how's that is that sharp uh I think that's better maybe
8:09 let's rock with that okay um no we
8:12 didn't sign anything with nocta I think it's going to be a long-term thing
8:15 condone of taking my dad 780 from the build I built him with a 660 with my 660
8:20 Ti he's a newb and doesn't game the wrong thing you did was not necessarily
8:24 swapping out a non- gamer's graphics card but making a non- gamer by a $700
8:28 graphics card first place that wasn't cool man unless your plan all along was
8:33 to do the swap no that makes it worse
8:37 cuz he's cuz cuz that's terrible yeah
8:40 you wouldn't do that to your dad
8:43 no I I hope your dad's watching I would get my dad to get a 780 but your dad
8:49 games but my dad games and my dad does boink yes and my dad would use the he
8:54 same that card would be at like 89% all the time well I got my mom a 660 Ti as
8:59 well okay well that's but she used it cuz she played Skyrim she wanted that
9:02 computer to play Skyrim okay is there no there is no major FPS and performance
9:07 difference between those two things go do you think NVIDIA is limiting sales of
9:10 Shield by making it exclusive to GTX cards rather than including AMD they're
9:14 trying to buff their product line yeah
9:17 they're making an ecosystem yeah exactly they're trying to make it so that you
9:21 are an NVIDIA customer so all all the
9:24 things that you have that could be from NVIDIA is from NVIDIA that and remember that the way Shield works is is via a
9:30 proprietary NVIDIA technology like it's the same kind of Technology as we're
9:35 going to see in NVIDIA's Grid where it's
9:38 it's like centralizing the processing power of the GPU and then streaming it
9:42 elsewhere and like virtualizing gpus this is a proprietary I'm I'm willing to
9:46 bet there's Hardware in there for this like I don't think this is as simple as
9:50 uh why die that's not what we're doing and technically they could open it up
9:54 but that would probably be a silly move yeah why yeah why should they I I think
9:59 Shield's cool we didn't talk about this last week Shield dropped to 2299 that's
10:04 that's really cool that's actually awesome and that brings it go ahead that
10:08 brings it into a way way bigger price point because the second you get under 300 bucks or like at 300 bucks like if
10:14 you spend half your paycheck and you save half your paycheck you can afford a
10:19 shield with a paycheck is where I think it gets down to like like that's GS to
10:23 the affordable range yeah like that to me is what the $300 like the $300 thing
10:27 is like I could I could wait a paycheck check or two and I could save up for it
10:30 a paycheck or two yeah but when you have to start waiting a month for something
10:34 then it becomes tough becomes a problem yeah um honestly and I I honestly I
10:38 didn't really see the complaints about 349 in terms of the competition that's
10:41 out there because when you look at the spec and you look at the competing
10:45 devices I mean how much do you pay for a phone what's it got on a shield still
10:48 though a wireless antenna still though
10:52 logically the difference between 299 and 349 is not that much right but
10:57 perception perception is huge once you get under that exactly $300 Mark if
11:04 cable TV DVDs and Blu-rays all broadcast at 60 HZ is there a real advantage to a
11:08 120 HZ TV if you game with a PC on your TV then perhaps um and if you want to uh
11:14 do the whole 3D thing then yes and if you want to do that uh screen sharing
11:18 thing where you can play dual player games each wearing 3D glasses and seeing
11:21 a different full full screen image then it's really cool as well other than that
11:25 no that is a few different things though um here's a question do you know the
11:30 answer to this why would someone want to be able to digitally switch their power
11:34 supply between one 12vt rail and 2 plus 12vt rails isn't it once you get to
11:38 insanely high voltages it's better to be on multiple rails once you're drawing a
11:41 lot of current it can be safer to have multiple rails but honestly if you're
11:46 able to switch between them then the reality of it is your power supply has
11:49 multiple rails and they're just being like combined yeah so I wouldn't worry
11:56 about it too much these days the whole multi-rail sing that was only relevant
12:00 for like six months yeah and it was a while ago that was like that was back
12:03 when an ocz Power Stream was a big deal yeah this was quite a while ago you're
12:08 making me feel old it wasn't that long okay it was a while ago it was a while
12:11 ago what's a good power supply for 2way SLI gtx780 what would you buy 2way GTX 7
12:16 brand aside depends on your chip remember has go brand what kind supp
12:22 you not when overclocked either H not
12:25 when overclocked though true oh what
12:29 power why don't I go with another answer while you think about that what's a
12:32 cheap Ultrabook to get that below 700 bucks that is good the words good and
12:36 cheap and notebook rarely go together uh so you get whatever Ultra Book is the
12:41 quality you want and then you pay however much that costs um anything
12:45 other than an ASUS Zenbook I I generally
12:48 I think that's sort of where they start in terms of where I'd call it like a
12:52 really good quality Ultrabook however the Acer Aspire S3 the new one looks
12:56 outstanding whatever you do though if you're going to buy Ultrabook today get
13:00 a Haswell based one because particularly on Notebook Haswell is a big deal it's
13:03 actually awesome lots more graphics performance and much better power
13:07 consumption power consumption there is huge for me okay power supply probably a
13:11 760i because if you're spending that much 760 okay cuz I'm sure you could
13:17 make it in that power range yeah oh yeah it'll be fine and um if if you're
13:21 spending that much on graphics cards you're probably spending that much on all the other parts in your system so
13:26 I'm not too worried about fitting a 760i into your budget and you can buy a
13:29 sleeving kit and those sleeving kits are sweet that's true okay and then you
13:32 don't have to spend all that time sleeving your power supply and that goes directly to the power supply for a
13:36 sleeving kit cuz some sleeping kits are just extensions these ones go all the
13:40 way to your power supply so it'll look awesome and if you're spending that much
13:43 on a computer you probably want it to look awesome so I don't know but there's
13:48 like there's a whole bunch of other power suppies that I do like pretty much
13:52 equally as much is Gigabyte the way to go for Haswell motherboards we actually
13:55 haven't used any of these yet these just arrived they're not even open they're
13:58 not even open will a 450 W sfx power supply power a
14:02 Haswell Cas series and a 780 ooh are you
14:05 overclocking are you yeah if you're not planning to overclock you're going to be
14:10 really borderline yeah you'll be on the line if you are overclocking I wouldn't
14:14 do it put one SSD in there maybe maybe
14:18 don't have an SSD well you'll need a storage device but yeah yeah like I
14:22 wouldn't plug too many like peripherals into the USB ports I I wouldn't do that
14:27 actually I don't maybe we should try well if he's buying not overclocked
14:32 maybe yeah but Power SP are so cheap but it's
14:37 sfx he wants an sfx power supply so I think 450 the max is that Silverstone
14:42 one I think S one is a 550 one do they have a 550 or no it was 450 gold Amax
14:49 has a 550 okay we'll see if you can find something interesting at their booth
14:52 that was the highest watt I don't remember what it was though so it might
14:55 not be that specific form best wireless hard drive good question uh Voyager air
14:59 has good battery life Wireless Plus has a really really stable app and the
15:04 Patriot Arrow has good integration with third party players I mean none of them
15:08 are bad to be perfectly honest um from our experience with them none of them
15:12 just like flake out so by the way just
15:15 remembered it was a fameless it wasn't a oh okay it was something different uh
15:21 okay I'm glad you made it too Josh y Maximus 6 formula estimated price and
15:25 release well the price will probably look at a Maximus 5 formula probably
15:29 around there and then uh thoughts I think the formula board out of all the
15:33 Rog boards is the one that makes the most sense because it has that really
15:36 high-end audio Solution on it that that makes me feel really good about buying
15:40 the board because I'm not just getting like w more usb3
15:46 ports I'm getting something that's really tangible and actually costs money
15:51 to put on the board like engineering that audio solution took time and money
15:55 and building every single one of them is expensive um are you guys getting J as a
15:59 guest we don't have him scheduled by any stretch of the imagination but he's
16:02 certainly welcome to join us um we've talked about this a fair bit
16:07 in the past guys so we're going to leave that one for now uh what do you think
16:10 about Studio grade speakers do you think it is good for anyone's setup I'll let
16:14 you take this one um depends if you're an audio file or not I have what are
16:18 they called again those Corsair speakers s sp2500 SP 2500s they're awesome they
16:23 were realistically pretty cheap because I got them recertified at ncx so it was
16:27 an awesome deal um that was a good deal that was a freaking i b one to yeah and
16:33 he already had a set well I need another
16:36 one for my wife don't worry about it they they're awesome speakers but
16:40 personally I I do appreciate my audio equipment but I care about headphones
16:45 more uh speakers I got those because it was a great deal and I like it that
16:49 they're loud I can hear them in a room beside me and they sound really good but
16:53 I'm not going for Studio grade speakers yeah I mean honestly they're probably
16:57 good I think that's how is toer compared to Cherry also
17:01 what's your favorite keyboard go they're really really really different toer is I
17:05 don't like them to yeah they're they're they're really different they're really
17:09 premium high quality very consistent feeling switches um but they're not
17:14 really cherries and you can't really compare them directly to any switch
17:17 people ask me to do this all the time no um they feel nothing like cherries yeah
17:22 at all no um at all not even close my my
17:26 favorite keyboard all uh depending on
17:30 what variation of all the prototypes that they release probably a yearly
17:34 snake because they're talking about reling releasing an uh aluminum now what
17:38 Blue switches and I think your what brown me I prefer Brown switches but my
17:43 favorite keyboard is actually the zy 60 which has black switches so I broke my
17:47 own rule uh someone says the stream is laggy but that looks like the only one
17:51 uh he looks like the only one complaining about it so I don't know what to say is 170 Canadian a steel for
17:56 a secondhand Dell 1920x 1200 monit monitor yeah maybe depends what kind of
18:00 condition it's in if it's like a 245 fpw like I have it's starting to fade the
18:05 the back light's not very even anymore and like make sure you see it make sure
18:08 there's no dead pixels or anything going on any thoughts on the mono price $58
18:12 blue switch Mech keyboard mono price is known for high quality and low price I've heard it's made kind of like it's a
18:16 low-end blue keyboard but it's also a blue keyboard 58 bucks got mx blues for
18:21 58 bucks what do you want me to yeah seen maybe get some posters for the wall
18:26 yeah we had that last week we have posters we have order did you place the
18:29 order I haven't actually put it in yet okay we're ordering a bunch of cool swag for the office from Think Geek so that's
18:34 going to be cool uh my computer won't post I sent the mobile for rain received
18:38 the same one repaired still have the same issue um could be something else
18:42 could be RAM could be power supply if you can swap if you have other kids of
18:46 RAM or friends with it try and swap out your RAM it's always a okay big thing so
18:49 let's get into our first topic because I think we've done uh a pretty pretty good
18:54 uh Twitter Q&A Blitz there
18:59 so here we go let me just make sure I have this I
19:03 think that I have this set up right so we should be able to yes yes yes I do
19:08 and I think that marks on my monitor oh oh and I just did the thing it's Arrow
19:12 shake and everything went away all right so Sony and Disney will begin streaming
19:17 movies that are still in theaters in a
19:20 bold move against piracy so let's just give you the quick
19:25 summary so this is on the verge in a bid to limit movie piracy in Asia so this is
19:30 not happening in North America in the US theaters will still be getting their
19:34 90day exclusive period uh Sony and Disney have begun testing a bold new on
19:39 demand service in South Korea which offers movies to rent while they are
19:42 still playing in theaters so they've done this before this isn't the first
19:47 time and there's been a lot of push back from the theaters they rely very heavily
19:52 like very heavily on that exclusive period because quite frankly I don't
19:57 know about you but if I had the choice
20:01 whether to pay $12 for watching the movie at the theater actually I mean you
20:05 can get as cheap as like nine bucks but it's Che is n bucks but then that's also
20:09 per person yep so if I could pay 12 bucks to go watch it in the theater or
20:13 if I could sit at home and watch it on my 52in TV with my surround sound setup
20:18 that like quite frankly is pretty good
20:23 um why do I why am I going to a theater why don't I make my own popcorn for 39
20:29 certain movies I think I would still go see cuz certain movies Batman still yeah
20:34 Batman big action movies like superhero movies like superhero movies big action
20:38 movies for Avengers 2 I can't believe they got Robert dowy Jr I'm like yes for
20:42 two more anyway go ahead stoked Robert Don J is one of my
20:47 favorite actors he's awesome so who can be Iron Man and Sherlock Holmes I know
20:53 so awesome anyways um mind you he play
20:56 he does them kind of the same doesn't matter I know it doesn't it's awesome
21:00 awesome uh okay so what was I saying yeah there's okay so there's the theater
21:05 experience with big action movies stuff like that where you want the like insane
21:08 yes you have pretty good surround sound but when you want the insane room shaking surround sound and the big
21:13 freaking screen and all that kind of stuff like that's cool and we'll still
21:17 pull people with theaters a little bit but certain genres I think will get
21:21 really hurt by that right okay and I mean it's like I think for big
21:25 blockbuster movies this is going to be less of a thing but one of the examples of when they tightened the window from
21:29 17 weeks to 12 weeks on Alice and Wonderland in the UK Ireland and Italy
21:35 uh Alice and Wonderland was nearly not screened by theaters they were just like nope forget it um it wasn't a good movie
21:40 for one thing so I don't I didn't see it oh it was terrible it was terrible it
21:44 was like it was just like Johnny Depp in makeup which quite frankly is awesome so
21:49 that's how bad the rest of the movie had to be so I was going to say like why is
21:54 that bad I know he's so hot oh dear um
21:59 uh this one's uh this one's your topic so next one up is from
22:04 Rutters Microsoft to bring Xbox and PC
22:07 games to Apple and Android phones I
22:11 didn't read into this too too specifically but there was um yeah
22:15 basically exactly what he already said I think this is an interesting move
22:20 they've done stuff like this before where they support certain things but
22:23 like they say right there Microsoft's Age of Empires will be available fre
22:27 play old game yeah but free to play they're not releasing any of their like
22:31 insane stuff mhm but they're just opening the platforms a little
22:35 bit that's that's a that's is I mean is
22:38 that an okay couple things number one is
22:42 that an acknowledgement that Windows Phone 8 is done or is it an
22:47 acknowledgement that they don't care because they're getting their licensing fees on Android devices at this point
22:51 yeah and at the same time like huge
22:54 licensing fees and at the same time they're um what is it they're getting an
22:59 hz1 Windows Phone 8 version yeah so I
23:03 don't really think so because they're still pushing right so so I think this
23:07 is just them going okay this isn't like our biggest title let's just see what
23:13 happens let's just see what happens let's open the floodgates because I
23:16 don't think people are going to like switch a platform so they can play Age
23:19 of Empires no or maybe there's a few but like there isn't going to be a huge wave
23:24 of people and if you would choose your smartphone based on which one can play
23:27 Age of Empire then like power to you power to you that's not an EA fist bump
23:32 cuz you're hardcore it's not an EA game cuz it's
23:35 good um but I don't like I don't think it's going to that is not going to be
23:41 the Tipping Point for that many people buying phones so I don't think they
23:44 think it really matters that much you know it it's funny it almost seems at
23:49 this point like like Microsoft is giving more cares to like apple platforms and
23:54 Google platforms than to their own Windows platform like it has has been it
23:59 has been a serious thorn in my side to this day that Halo doesn't get the same
24:04 support on PC that it does on Xbox like I'm sorry Microsoft what made
24:08 you big exactly was it
24:12 Xbox that's so annoying cuz Xbox or Xbox
24:15 One Halo one on on PC was awesome and we
24:20 got it like way later yeah we didn't get
24:23 co-op nope like uh I still ended up playing
24:29 Halo 1 on my what do you even call an original Xbox yeah I know right Xbox one
24:36 uh um because it came out so much
24:39 earlier I didn't even hear about the PC release how I figured out about the PC
24:43 release was I saw it like one of my friends had it and I was like what why
24:47 was there not tons of news around this I don't know I mean my whole thing is uh
24:52 is like oneman boycotting if I don't like something I won't buy it so I
24:56 wouldn't touch Halo for Xbox because it was so offensive to me that it was not
25:01 available for PC second it came out for PC I bought it second Halo 2 came out
25:06 for PC I bought it I'm not going to buy it for Xbox I'm not going to do it same
25:10 thing my local cable provider the reason I don't have a cable TV subscription is
25:14 that they don't support cable card and I think it's BS that the Canadian Telos
25:18 will not support cable card well okay telecommunication it's not really well
25:22 they're kind of all Telos at this point yeah I don't know whatever anyway the
25:26 content providers up here Will will not support cable card and every time they
25:30 call me they call me like once every two months at least hey we noticed you have
25:34 internet with us do you want uh cable TV no please put a note on my file don't
25:38 call me again until you have cable card because I refuse to pay for things where
25:41 they're going to have un anti-consumer policies that just limit the way I can
25:46 use my devices and are offensive to me as a customer so
25:51 there when I was on my student plan with Shaw they called me to be like hey do
25:55 you want like cable service and I was like can you give me a free TV
25:58 they were like what I was like I don't own a TV if you want me to get cable
26:02 service I need a TV I was like uh did
26:05 they stop calling you yep you should have been like well well
26:09 T us gives you a free computer with your internet sign up so like you guys should
26:13 give me a free TV makes sense to me if I want to use
26:17 your service I have to have a device to use your service on I was just trying to
26:21 get a free TV I was just going to cancel the plan right
26:24 after it was a student plans it didn't cost anything really anyway ter aren
26:29 you that's terrible all right I would have it for
26:34 the minimum amount of time no we're not talking about this anymore um next one
26:38 is an article from the guardian which I'm having a little bit of trouble with
26:43 my touchcreen here I want this to grow
26:47 grow really okay fine whatever Blackberry shares fall sharply after
26:53 smartphone maker posts shock loss
26:56 Traders SL 1.2 B billion from the company's valuation did they have 1.2
27:01 billion left in their valuation I think they still have $3.1 billion of cushion
27:05 okay after revealing a $69 million loss following poor sales of
27:11 the new Z 10 and Q10 phones here's what I want to know was this loss shocking
27:17 that's what I found so confusing was because they estimated 3 million units
27:22 sold and I was like why did you estimate
27:26 3 million unit sold I think it's 3 million units I don't remember exactly
27:30 what it is this is the problem with forecasting like when I started lonus
27:33 Media Group my uncle's like well do you have a business plan and a forecast I'm
27:36 like no I know approximately how much revenue we can make if we do all these
27:40 things right and I know our viewers are going to support us and I know all these
27:44 things and we're going to kind of go for it and it's going to be an adventure I
27:48 don't know how much of this I'm really supposed to go into but when we were at
27:51 Omni you were like so what are all your numbers and and he had a few and stuff
27:54 but he's like yeah but I'm Kickstarter it so we're going to see what happens
27:58 these are all my papers like it doesn't matter and the guy comes from a
28:03 financial background yeah like so he
28:06 understands he understands what a forecast is which should give you some
28:09 idea why he thought it was just pointless to have one like like he had
28:14 some idea you kind of put feelers out there and you're like okay well you know
28:18 are people going to support me and this is how well semi- similar products
28:22 there's no s there's nothing that similar to his but like semi- similar VR
28:25 stuff well he was looking at pre-orders for Rift and he kind of going okay well
28:28 if I get this percentage this if this number of people who want a rift also
28:32 want an omni then okay then it kind of
28:35 works out yeah so he was thinking about it but like but at the end of the day
28:39 like it's like oh you know analysts need to see a you know a forecast and when
28:43 you're Intel and your business is predominantly run rate like Intel CPUs
28:49 they can they could manufacture them a year out and they'd have a pretty good
28:53 idea of how many they're going to need because it it's just once the numbers
28:57 get big enough there's kind of there's some variation but there's like there's
29:00 a flow to it it evens out I remember showing you this when I was still
29:04 working at NC and I'm like yeah I can predict how many CPUs are going to sell
29:08 to within like 10 plus or minus 10 on a given week and you're like no I'm like
29:13 yeah it's like if I drop the price this much it'll be this many plus or minus 10
29:19 boom there's a long weekend so it's going to be this many plus or minus 10
29:22 it just I don't get it like your logic
29:26 and I bet the logic of many of you out there is if there's like a product launch then
29:31 everyone buys it and then like sales go like this and then they like go like
29:35 this for the rest of the product not at all apparently not 8800 GTX had a boost
29:42 and it sold like this and it was flat it
29:46 sold exactly the same throughout pretty much its entire lifetime sometimes
29:50 growing for seasonality and that card
29:53 was current for over a year yeah that card is freaking awesome by the way over
29:58 a year it was just solid and it's like
30:01 why and the answer is look at the steam Hardware survey the the the the number
30:06 of people who actually upgrade every generation is like super small if NVIDIA
30:11 didn't release a graphics card for three years there'd still be plenty of people
30:15 to buy graphics cards lots lots of people to buy graphics cards the fact
30:19 that they move so fast is kind of baffling to me they don't have to AMD
30:23 and NVIDIA are just keeping each other in check yeah it's like trying to make
30:28 sure that when you do go to the store that they have the fastest one even
30:31 though they don't really need to have the fastest they don't really need to but I I appreciate that they have the
30:36 fastest one or that they're trying so so
30:39 anyway so Blackberry I mean you know what maybe this is a good opportunity to
30:42 talk about your experience with the Z10 you spent some over a month with it yep
30:47 I will talk about that one quick second I want to jump back to the article um a
30:50 new big guy that's a part of blackberry stuff has been talking and saying okay
30:54 guys like foron hin I think that's it yeah I don't remember some dude some
31:00 dude from Blackberry that's really really high up um basically he's going
31:03 like okay give us a little bit because like
31:08 honestly they didn't do that bad if you have realistic expectations of what
31:12 they're supposed to do I mean the R&D involved in two new flagship smartphones
31:16 alone is like not trivial and they have to hit a market that they weren't
31:19 hitting for a while Y and like they're they're trying to get into new markets
31:23 they're trying to do all this new stuff like there needs to be some growing time
31:26 like people were like okay you're releasing new smartphone you're not doing that well kill you well it's
31:30 because everyone's used to Apple and Samsung results yeah exactly but then
31:34 again HTC I think has demonstrated that
31:38 someone who's basically down for the count can have a blockbuster smartphone
31:42 yes and maybe Blackberry should have done an Android OS release but they
31:47 didn't what if they oh that would have been terrible message though yes and no
31:52 what if they did a Blackberry version of Android
31:55 OS they could have their switching between business and normal mode would
31:59 you buy a Z10 if it was an Android phone I like buttons no okay if it had
32:06 buttons I don't like the screen how do you see how do you differentiate an
32:09 Android phone I like the scen other than spend a bloody fortune on something
32:13 that's basically unmanufactured by almost anyone else the back of the Z10
32:18 was very nice like most of the things about it was nice I didn't like this sck
32:21 likes the back I didn't like the screen bacon because it was like impossible to
32:26 clean you remember that oh yeah right it didn't have a very good like grease
32:31 resistance it was weird I've never had a touchcreen like that before in my entire
32:34 life and I mean what was your take of okay having tried to switch to
32:38 Blackberry would you could you possibly have switched from Android to Blackberry
32:42 knowing everything you know now personally I would not want to yeah like
32:45 I say is the conclusion video out yet it went out last night okay like iot the
32:50 annotations again
32:53 yeah God so many comments on the previous one are like you're doing this
32:57 and there's nothing to click
33:02 on anyways um I would not do it personally I would suggest that certain
33:07 people do do it uh specifically one of my friend's dads who's very into
33:13 business and has to keep up on things like emails and text messages and all
33:17 that kind of stuff very quickly it's good for that because he doesn't
33:20 actually want to spend that much time on his phone doesn't play games doesn't play games doesn't do all that kind of
33:24 stuff but needs to be able to answer emails and everything quickly and then put his phone back away but Android is
33:27 so customizable that you can probably come up with some Solution that's still
33:31 really good but that's built in and ready to go immediately that's true you don't have to fight with it and I think
33:36 if there's any I'll get it or uh no it's okay I can get it cuz I think you're the
33:40 next one as well White House petition something something so so cover that one
33:44 but I think the thing with the thing with Blackberry is that uh it's ready
33:48 done and not everyone's a phone door
33:52 right oh my notebook yes oh yeah you're going to need that scene three shows
33:56 them the screen oh okay whoop sorry guys yeah so basically for
34:01 the right user the person that doesn't want to sit down and constantly be customizing their phone awesome for the
34:06 right user someone who wants to be able to do their social media uh and
34:10 interactions very very quickly I just said very very oh man um for someone who
34:15 wants to do it extremely quickly uh it's it's great but for me I want to do more
34:19 with my phone and it tries to be an Android phone with its side loing apps
34:24 which is cool if you're someone who already has one or bought bought it for
34:28 a specific reason but then wants additional functionality but for me I
34:32 would just want to buy an Android phone because it just makes more sense to me
34:35 so moving on I'm going to try and figure out how I'm supposed to do this on
34:40 Linus's laptop give me one quick
34:43 second oh that's the exact one we were just
34:47 looking at okay I'm going to have troubl getting to it but I can start talking about it before I get to it basically um
34:54 different states are not allowing
34:57 manufacturers to sell directly to individual personal clients so they want
35:03 you to go to like they want you to I
35:06 don't know what they're called car park they're not called a car park
35:11 wow I don't know what they're called anyways where they sell cars they want
35:15 you to go there and buy it in person instead of getting it directly from the
35:18 manufacturer so Tesla only does their business that way so because there's
35:22 certain States not allowing it anymore someone has created a I think his name
35:27 is Tim he's not he's not allowing his last name to be put out but someone has
35:30 made a petition to the White House to make them stop this from happening
35:34 because it will essentially kill Tesla's business uh it is not a person from
35:39 Tesla it is someone who has investment in Tesla and plans on buying a Tesla
35:43 he's a he's a fan of Tesla but he's not actually an employee of Tesla motors
35:49 come on I just got to try and open this up so
35:54 right now the petition has 300 uh not
35:57 300 36,500 signatures it needs 100,000
36:02 signatures in the article it says that they had about like 10K or something but
36:05 since then it's gone up quite a bit I
36:09 just got to try and get the guy's name here we go article finally open three
36:15 what is this oh we got something hey
36:18 it's not opening when I press three it's not opening oh that's cuz that's the uh
36:22 oh I have you need Scene Three you have to click on it okay
36:29 sorry about that we got our uh we got our Vengeance Pro memory oh that's cool
36:34 yeah so anyway go ahead I basically finished the article I just wanted to
36:38 show people it once I finally got it on screen oh that's from cette why can't I
36:42 scroll there we go here let me get this
36:45 ah there who that got oh micro HDMI do
36:49 do hate it got caught on something there and oh it's borked now oh no oh micro
36:54 HDMI let's try that
36:58 wouldn't it be funny if that connector just hardcore broke there we go suck
37:03 hate micro USB hate micro
37:06 HDMI Vengeance Pro 2 by8 gig there we go
37:09 that's cool are we doing a video about it yeah we're going to do a video about it it's uh basically it's just got more
37:14 overclocking Headroom in it compared to normal yeah just compared to does it
37:19 have any lighting or anything uh no no it's just uh it's just clean looking um
37:24 overclocker friendly simple memory black PCB uh this one right here is an 1866 C9
37:30 kit 16 gigs cool okay
37:33 awesome all right should we do a Twitter Q&A Blitz sure people seem to like so so
37:39 guys send in your Twitter questions and we are going to do one more article in
37:43 the meantime so uh you you came up with
37:47 this one but I'm going to I'm going to go ahead and field it because it's an easy one sure uh so there's a teen from
37:54 Vancouver Island which happens to be very close to Vancouver not an island
37:58 which is where we live specifically from Victoria on Vancouver Island from
38:02 Victoria which happens to be the capital of BC although it shouldn't be because
38:06 it's on an island which is stupid uh so
38:10 this is an m macinski and macinski I
38:14 hope I said that right she has some kind of an accent that would indicate that
38:17 that's an appropriate last name for her and she has done something pretty cool
38:21 so this is a flashlight it has three LEDs there's actually a video on the
38:26 article this is on times columnist and uh so 3 LED flashlight that is powered
38:31 using only the heat given off by your hand when you hold it so she demos it at
38:37 the very end of the video just skip to the end because the whole beginning of
38:40 it so she was uh she's one of the 15 finalists uh of a of a list of 90
38:46 Regional finalists from around all over the world for Google Science F yeah so
38:50 so for Google's Global Science Fair and I just think it's really cool that she's
38:55 local and she explains how she she had to do a lot of analysis and testing for
39:00 how much heat per per square centimeter your heat gives off and then how much
39:05 heat you can use it sounds like she's basically using the pel effect right to
39:09 it certain I I didn't listen too closely but it did sound like it yeah so heating
39:13 one side cooling another side using ambient air and then generating an
39:17 electric current by doing that so she was able to determine that yes you could
39:21 build us a flashlight and she built the flashlight and all she does is hold it
39:24 and the LEDs go on it's not super bright or anything
39:27 but in some type of disaster kit or a bugout kit or something like that where
39:32 your batteries might run out and you might be left dry this is awesome
39:35 because if you're using your cell phone for a flashlight if you're if you're using a normal flashlight they both have
39:39 potential to run out of batteries and die oh and I think probably the most notable part of all of this is the fact
39:44 that she's 15 yeah so she's already a
39:47 100 times smarter than I'll ever be which is cool yeah that's awesome good
39:51 work we need people like that good work an yay flashlights real
39:57 bum na EA okay Twitter Q&A boom have you
40:02 tried out Windows 8.1 preview no I heard the start menu still isn't great
40:09 yeah and I mean honestly my issues with Windows 8 went a little deeper than just
40:14 that anyway so yeah uh if I had a sound
40:17 card and headset and SP 2500s would you get better Sound by plugging directly to
40:21 the sound card or can you use the sp2500 in good question if you have a sound
40:27 card with a headphone amp plug into it directly if you don't then it probably
40:32 doesn't matter uh and the sp2500 amp can help
40:36 you sounds about right yeah that's what I do I switch on the card instead of on
40:41 that it would be nice if I could but I don't want to if you ball a little bit
40:45 harder you could have an awesome sound card and an external headphone yeah
40:51 but and I barely use my computer that's the saddest part it's so nice though
40:56 that oh oh I love the essence one just even plugging like my in your Pros into
41:00 it they do sound better they do sound better it's just a yeah we're talking
41:05 about zoner Essence one it's awesome I love it it's totally awesome uh would
41:08 you recommend a Razer Kraken Pro or a steel series Siberia V2 as far as build
41:12 quality and sound quality goes um neither of those are really at the top
41:16 of my list as far as sound quality goes
41:20 neither of them are poorly built though um if I was looking for just kind of
41:25 like your your run-of-the-mill kind of gaming headset Siberia V2 is definitely
41:30 gets a thumbs up super lightweight very comfortable and it has a good mic those
41:35 to me are the gaming requirements if if
41:39 if if you're someone who spends a huge amount of time on voice chat people will
41:42 appreciate a good mic and I don't have any personal experience with the Kraken
41:47 Pro me neither but I have quite a few friends that have Siberia V2s because
41:51 they're pretty cost effective and the mics on them will not give that super
41:55 annoying snow effect to the entire chat room yeah the whole time you're in it
41:59 generally speaking if you buy a steel series headset you're getting a good mic
42:02 yeah that's I've never encountered one of theirs that doesn't have you seen the
42:06 aeve Q I have not yet sorry uh that's a
42:10 duplicate guys please avoid sending messages multiple times if we see that
42:14 we're not going to answer your message this is on here like four times uh Hey
42:18 from the UK hi UK hell 430 wat power
42:21 supply enough for this confi yeah should
42:24 be fine but I don't know if too many 430 w power supplies that aren't total like
42:29 bollocks so if it's a good one then
42:32 great and there we go thank you I think that's actually spelled wrong but that's
42:36 okay thaty yo guys watching the live stream from the UK hello hi hi to the UK
42:41 again should we really say hi to the same country twice yeah if they're
42:45 really cool yeah the UK is pretty cool
42:48 yeah uh oh my gosh we have 4,000 live
42:52 viewers can't be right you guys rock it
42:56 must be no it's not on there it's on here you it used to be on there that's
43:00 cool though yeah you guys are awesome apparently it's like that's why two
43:04 people from the UK are are talking to us
43:08 yeah uh is it normal for my 690 to not hit 100% usage on both gpus you want to
43:12 handle this one uh I do not an S very much but 100% normal yeah 100% normal
43:18 because SLI is only in very rare circumstances such as synthetic
43:22 benchmarks going to be able to fully utilize both gpus that is totally normal
43:27 don't worry about it look at the cores on your CPU too yeah same thing
43:32 yeah uh Sing me happy birthday we can't actually um yeah it's yeah it's like a
43:37 trademark copyright thing if we do that I don't even think it's that cheap no
43:42 it's not it's really expensive you're not all actually go look it up you're not allowed to sing Happy Birthday
43:46 that's why you've probably never heard it on TV or in a movie if you do hear it
43:49 in movies it's like it's they change it it's usually a big thing or they change
43:53 it like f Futurama it's like what day is to day it's Leela's birthday yeah it's a
44:00 something something something so let's all have some cake like you can't sing
44:04 it that's why Nobody Does it yeah uh will you be upgrading your rig anytime
44:08 soon no no I have a 590 and uh a
44:13 3970x I got eight ssds in raid zero I
44:17 got not a lot of lacking there dual rad quad
44:20 rad I have a Zonar um Zonar wow I don't
44:25 even remember what it's called anymore Zonar zense that's the one oh I didn't
44:29 know whether you're talking about the daak or the I have the essence one oh
44:33 yes Yes actually I upgraded my rig today
44:37 but I thought they weren't well they're not here yet but Oh I thought they like
44:41 I thought you weren't getting it oh no I I I left the back order in I'm I'm going
44:44 to just wait till there's another one uh so today I bought myself I treated
44:49 myself to 2 pb278 Q's oh that's got to be my favorite
44:54 monitor very low input leg beautiful IPS
44:58 panel or PLS panel rather um not not
45:02 calibrated out of the factory but I have a calibrator a good one too I have a
45:06 good calibrator so I'll be able to get pretty much Pro performance out of it
45:10 not quite um and it's 27 in the only thing I don't like about it is that it's
45:14 16 by9 and I really did think about going for PA 246s yeah just because of
45:19 the all the color depth oh um but anyway
45:23 I'm I'm going dual dual monitor which I've never done on my personal system
45:27 never done that do a monitor yeah it's nice it's really nice especially if you
45:31 get um okay I would highly recommend
45:34 display Fusion okay that's that thing I was talking about where we should do an
45:38 episode about that we should actually it's on Steam now too is it it's on
45:42 Steam software so any computer you go to you can be like bam display Fusion okay
45:46 tell them about it and don't point at that screen because they can't see it I I don't know enough about it like if
45:51 we're going to do a video about it I'll research it more but these are the things that I care about and the reasons
45:55 why I got it it can do a lot more than this but this is specifically why I
45:59 wanted it when I went to Windows 8 my favorite thing was that it would bring
46:02 start menu and taskbar on both your monitors and you could have independent
46:05 backgrounds running on both your monitors that's cool yeah display Fusion
46:09 can do that so I that was like the one reason you held out with Windows 8 for
46:13 so long wasn't it I had so many things like weren't
46:17 working I couldn't play certain games all this I had so many problems um which
46:21 ended up being a combination of things but it was including Windows 8 whatever
46:24 um so I went back to Windows 7 and bought display Fusion that was my that
46:28 was my thing so display Fusion is great whenever I go to use anyone else's
46:32 computer that has dual monitors I feel like I have a handicap now because I'm
46:35 like why can't I where's my start menu ah it's so annoying I I dis display
46:41 Fusion is amazing we'll do a video about it yeah so that's that's cool so someone
46:45 asks are SanDisk SSD is reliable SanDisk is one of the few SSD manufacturers that
46:52 actually owns Fabs so like all the other
46:55 guys who own Fabs my on Samsung they are
46:58 keeping the best for themselves I would say yes SanDisk ssds are a good way to
47:03 go uh you're awesome thank you Isaac you're awesome too he probably means
47:07 you're awesome too Yay good job he said
47:10 you're awesome too no I don't know uh please make a video of the gambus
47:14 headphones uh gambas is going to send us stuff once it's ready so going to happen
47:18 cool paint the wall green so you can make it a green screen and have fun with it that would actually be kind of cool
47:23 xsplit supports it natively remember the one time that we had my shirt that was
47:27 weird I don't know what caused that cuz I never changed the settings after yeah I don't know I'm just saying imagine
47:31 that happened the whole wall love the show says s thank you yay uh bought a
47:35 new keyboard CM Storm quickfire rapid with cherrymx black which switches do you prefer for gaming brown blue okay do
47:41 you think unified memory is going to come to PCS by Broadwell no no how much
47:46 will it cost to water cool a CPU and GPU custom Loop probably a few hundred bucks
47:50 yeah a little more if mCP 655 get a
47:53 proper pump yeah proper pump yeah no I agree and you can do the problem is you
47:58 can go to like any extent so it depends what you're going to do with it you
48:02 could go with a swift tack h220 add a GPU block that's 240 then you
48:08 probably still need another rad which you could probably get for 60 bucks use
48:11 no for Barb fittings that'll be really cheap CPU block will probably come with them yeah 300 using uh using a swift
48:17 Tech H2 220 uh get a GTX 760 or
48:21 7970 between those two I mean those aren't even in the same price range man
48:25 no that's crazy uh okay thoughts on Windows 8.1 I need
48:30 transparency uh I don't know if you're talking about AOG glass because I need
48:33 AOG glass too talking about reviewer
48:37 transparency um well I haven't tried 8.1 so I can't be transparent or opaque yeah
48:43 what do you think of Canadian service providers basically cheating the people with data my provider actually pretty
48:49 good um they've never really boned me
48:53 does service providers is he talking about ISP or phone could be either
48:58 neither of my I I use Shaw and I use Belle and neither of them have ever
49:02 really screwed me for ISP we've gone way
49:06 over our limit multiple times and Sha's just like man I'm sure we're doing it
49:10 here already yeah so they don't really seem to care Shaw at least doesn't seem
49:14 to care so that's awesome yeah it depends on your area it's just how
49:17 consumer friendly they are and out here it's for isps it's basically Shaw and
49:21 Tellis and Tellus is so good that they are bad that they'd make Shaw look good
49:26 no matter what Shaw did but Shaw seems to generally try to be pretty consumer
49:29 friendly which is nice which is nice uh phones you get screwed but everyone gets
49:32 screwed everywhere with phones so like it's not specifically bad here it's like
49:37 how would you like to be screwed is basically the conversation you get to
49:41 have when you go into the store yeah it's like like how exactly do you want
49:45 to get screwed over today screwed over this way you can choose diameters and
49:48 you can choose positions and you can choose whatever you want but at the end
49:52 of the day you're still getting screwed it's going to happen uh Jack Ellis asks
49:56 480s an SLI or 1760 and what happened to your model M so I'll take the first half
50:01 uh sure I'd go 760 uh way less heat
50:04 output way less power consumption um more modern solution
50:08 single card is generally better than dual Go part of how we dried the camera
50:13 when it got water damage was exhaust from a 480 that is not part of that is
50:17 how you dried up the camera so like that should speak enough to that answer the
50:22 model m is still it's like it's pretty
50:25 much rare in go the problem is the stabilizers on all the keys that need
50:29 stabilizers are broken all of them so what I need to do is the in general the
50:35 keyboard's in very good shape so I want to keep that one and what I want to find
50:39 is another model M who's maybe the pcb's broken or the connector's broken or
50:43 something that is disabling it from being able to work entirely and I want
50:46 to take the keys off of that and utilize the stabilizers on my current model M
50:51 which would make it fully functional and in very good shape so the still in
50:55 progress but I these are supposed to be like blitzes
50:59 but I have a 7970 GHz Edition I'm
51:02 planning to upgrade my CPU on this year's Black Friday what CPU would you
51:06 recommend gaming only um Mercia I'm afraid we're going to have to let you
51:10 know we need to know your current CPU that's really important so maybe post it
51:15 on the lineus tech tips Forum in fact everyone go go post something on the
51:18 lineus tech tips Forum now because the lineus tech tips form is awesome and
51:21 everyone should be a member of it we had actually I want to take a moment here
51:26 and be super proud of our Forum real quick there was a conversation on the uh
51:31 the new legislation in the US that was to do with homosexual marriage and as we
51:36 all know this is an extremely touchy topic it is very polarizing people get
51:40 super upset there was a 4 Page thread
51:44 that had a back and forth exchange between some of our members and it did
51:48 not get out of hand I was so impressed
51:51 we the mod team I I love my mod team they're all amazing but we watched these
51:55 kind of threads like Hawks cuz we don't want them to go out of the control but
51:58 I've seen a theme lately where we can let a lot of these style topics just
52:03 kind of go I mean on any other Forum that threads a a train wreck yeah it's a
52:08 train wreck and everyone hates each other by the end of it and generally
52:11 speaking our policy when we discussed it is we're not going to allow these
52:15 controversial topics really um to exist
52:18 on our Forum because we we don't want it to become a hate Fest if if you're
52:23 having a civil discussion we want a respectful Forum where people
52:33 itery it I mean that's fine that is so
52:36 cool like that's just really cool so yeah we we love that we love that um all
52:42 right moving right along is two or three monitor setup worth it for gaming
52:46 personally I prefer single monitor for gaming uh I have a two monitor setup
52:50 when I'm gaming my second monitor either is black or has like my voice comp chat
52:55 Windows on it so if Apple upgraded their 27inch Thunderbolt display to 5K for the
53:00 same price would you buy it sure that would be awesome
53:06 um uh no idea Gilbert sorry oh oh what
53:09 I'm putting in the uh okay what's a good power
53:13 supply dealership 750 is fine for
53:17 that uh tell slick it's called a dealership i' for I'd forgotten what the
53:23 name of the place was where you went to go buy cars okay
53:27 dealerships grocery stores grocery store
53:31 no just places where you buy things I'm helping you
53:35 Mall okay
53:40 kiosk we're improving slicks vocabulary one step at a time I mean you'd be
53:45 looking for a dealership you'd have to comb that town with a brick asking
53:49 people where they're where the dealership
53:53 is where's where's that place where you like go look at cars and stuff uh Ethan
53:58 asks if we'll sign a side panel if we pay for shipping honestly dude you don't
54:02 want to pay for shipping to us it's going to be like so expensive couple hundred bucks don't do it uh good
54:06 mechanical keyboard for $180 anything you want yeah man go for it and 7990
54:12 benchmarks we're actually you know what here I'm going to I'm going to stop the Twitter Blitz because I want to talk
54:16 about this 7990 benchmarks we can't really run them properly because we
54:20 don't have a frame capture setup sorry keep going I mean it's on the bench
54:25 right there yeah uh in fact if I if I aim this at it you might be able to see
54:29 it kind of there it is you can't really tell what it is but that is it that's a$
54:34 7990 on a test bench um we can't do it
54:38 yet and we need a $2,000 capture card so we've been having some discussions we're
54:43 talking about maybe doing a Kickstarter to help us afford one we've been trying
54:46 to find a sponsor to help us afford one
54:50 it's hard as a sponsor to show that out justify that I mean we did have a
54:54 sponsor step up and provide with four ssds that we could use for this because
54:59 you need that type of storage solution to be able to like it's hard to properly
55:04 test frame rating on graphic card um because right now the numbers we'd get
55:08 would be kind of useless yeah but what we were thinking about doing in the
55:11 meantime is benchmarking it and then doing a double blind test with him and
55:17 then a double blind test with me to see if that difference between the reported
55:22 FPS and the perceived FPS which we can't measure but we all know exists is
55:27 something that we can perceive so we were going to do a blind taste test 7990
55:32 versus GTX Titan to see which one we
55:35 think feels faster or if we can even tell so I thought that might be a cool
55:39 angle we're going to do like dual 780s yeah so that it's a similar price range
55:43 and two cards it's not of course a combined card but it's still two cards
55:47 we still need another 780 for that we still need another 780 well we'll figure out something two Titans we have to do s
55:52 we have another 780 in the mail though yeah okay so we'll do two 780s but like
55:56 that's we were thinking of doing that so that there's no investment cuz we can't
56:01 buy a $2,000 capture card um but yeah um
56:07 know so yeah we do Kickstarter something we we are trying to release benchmarks
56:12 of this kind of stuff and we want to release higher-end graphics card
56:15 benchmarks like higher end as in not the graphics card but as in the theory that
56:19 goes into it yeah we want to be more scientific yeah we just can't right now
56:22 we're going to have to Blitz some topics here sure um did you do the ISP New
56:26 Zealand no okay let's do that let's get
56:29 it on so where did my live stream do there it is there we go so there's an
56:33 ISP in New Zealand that is releasing a I think it's called global mode it's
56:38 somewhere in there I think it's called global mode which hides your location
56:42 and allows you to access services that are uh country bound everyone's seen on
56:46 YouTube well not everyone but people have seen on YouTube where it's like you can't watch this video in your region or
56:51 anywhere else really that's really annoying plac like Comedy Central Comedy
56:55 Central for the longest time South Park was streamable in Canada then it got Ned
56:58 then it got nixed yeah so this will allow you to view it wherever stuff like
57:03 Netflix I know uh I think net Netflix US requires a United States credit card now
57:07 or something possibly something's going on there but like other services that
57:11 just check for your region it's allowing you to get around it and it's at the ISP
57:15 level I know there's other ways to do this it's not the idea isn't completely
57:19 revolutionary but it's very streamlined which is cool that's very cool so the
57:22 way that they're marketing this is as a service that allows visitors to New
57:27 Zealand to access the same online services that they would at home yes wow
57:32 that's sketch as balls I don't think anyone believed
57:37 that but uh that's very cool I mean speaking of isps that are actually
57:42 trying to do something to help their customers as opposed to just maintain
57:47 the status quo that's very cool and out of out of Australia New Zealand of all
57:51 places where typically internet policy wise they've been in the dark ages for a
57:55 while for well since the Dark Ages um no
58:00 offense to anyone from there but I think you guys know better than us yeah how
58:04 horrible it is there so we have 4,400 live viewers right now that's I think a
58:10 record so I think so I think so you guys
58:13 are awesome awesome yeah so let's move into our next topic which
58:19 is 21-year-old receives a $25 million
58:23 funding this is from a bunch of different corporations it's a bunch of different groups $25 million for a
58:28 payment app they're not releasing a lot of information about it but basically he
58:32 his whole thing is that he's been frustrated having to carry around a
58:36 wallet with credit cards and cash in it and he wants to be able to do it through your phone this type of thing has been
58:41 kind of flopped around for a really long time I'm interested it's going to a
58:45 21-year-old and not something like Google wallet or
58:49 PayPal yeah because this I think it's called clinkle or clinky or something
58:54 like that clinkle clinkle it's so it's going to be a new app there isn't a ton
58:58 of information about it yet it's not even out yet it's not even developed yet
59:02 fully the clinkle website said it says it is rebuilding the analog wallet from
59:07 the ground up to bring you the future of payment and dupin dupin Lucas whatever
59:13 okay first name Lucas is keeping quiet about what it actually does so there's
59:18 something big coming if all these there's it it names a few players in
59:21 there I don't remember who but there's a bunch of big companies putting big money
59:25 behind this okay so Intel former
59:28 Facebook coo Owen vanata and wireless
59:31 technology company qualcom have all invested their money and faith in him so
59:37 like yeah this is going to be a big deal
59:41 like whether you want it to happen or not this is going to be a big deal huh
59:45 very cool so soon I think we will have the option to pay with things with our
59:49 phone so get this at the same time like we're at such a Crossroads at the same
59:54 time you will be be able to pay with
59:58 metal you'll be able to pay with paper you'll be able to pay with plastic
60:02 you'll be able to pay with plastic electronically you'll be able to pay by
60:06 writing on a piece of paper that you commit to pay it I mean come on checks
60:09 still exist really and you'll be able to pay just by like whipping out your phone
60:13 this is very interesting cuz when I was in Korea they had this thing called t-
60:17 money I don't have it on me but it's basically it looks like a credit card or
60:21 you can get other forms of it which are dong are you sure it wasn't like a US
60:24 rapper on that tea P I know it's t money right it sounds so ridiculous money t
60:29 money um so it's so I was paying for my
60:32 stuff and then I got bored so I pulled out my wallet and then came the hoorde
60:37 of people who were making me not able to pay so I thought I'd make an app called
60:42 crinkle happy day that's actually pretty
60:45 good L money L money L money thank you
60:49 there you go okay so basically what it was was you'd tap it on whatever you had
60:52 to pay for you could go certain stores supported this someone says worst worst
60:57 freestyle ever come on that was pretty
61:00 good that was pretty good okay you you can pay for certain things for it at
61:04 stores you could pay for taxis with it you could pay for uh any form of Transit
61:08 and like it's awesome it was very cool and all you had to do was tap it on the
61:12 thing I believe it was through NFC like
61:15 so cool and it was so easy it was so easy to load it we down 1200 viewers
61:20 they all laugh CU your W no I'm just kidding but yeah something like so so
61:25 that exists it already exists so and I think it's done through NFC right so if
61:29 it's NFC off your phone it basically already exists and
61:34 payp pass already exists yeah which I don't know what it's branded as there
61:38 but when you take your credit card and you just wirelessly yep so we're already
61:42 pretty much there it's just moving it onto your phone yeah so we're we're heading in that direction very cool
61:46 stuff um so no we did lose about 100
61:50 viewers though that's a shame I guess I shouldn't wrap anymore uh next topic
61:59 is here we go connect for PC and connect for Xbox
62:05 will be different now I think I'm going to let you handle this because I already
62:08 knew this um because I talked to them when we were at computex about it but go
62:13 ahead and talk about this I I didn't see
62:16 anything in it about this the article that I read about it was fairly critical
62:21 yeah um well I would think so yeah but it there could there could be something
62:26 with different functionality there could be something else going on I'm not
62:29 really sure but it's not releasing for a while so connect for Xbox One for those
62:33 of you who didn't catch the headline because we didn't say it yet will not
62:37 work on PCS now we saw the connect SDK
62:41 the the kit which included a connect for PC at computex but it was old connect
62:48 not connect for Xbox one I didn't see so this is yet another example of Microsoft
62:52 holding back the PC on purpose
62:57 and why and it's not releasing for a long time and the dev Kit's going to be
63:01 400 bucks like which is like someone's going
63:06 to hack an Xbox One Connect before they spend $400 on a devkit they're already
63:12 hacking yeah oh to get the new SDK on it
63:16 I don't that would be no I mean uh to to be able to do something with it I would
63:20 think I think someone will sooner hack Hardware hack an adapter to be able to
63:24 plug in the Xbox One Connect into a computer or something or something um oh
63:30 of course Hardware hackers May well develop their own bam that's uh that i'
63:36 like that's people are going to try because that's crazy yeah I'm uh I'm I'm
63:41 I'm pretty frustrated with Microsoft's General Behavior I mean the kinds of
63:45 things that something like connect let's
63:48 just call it connect one sure connect one which is the second
63:52 one uh connect one like the kinds of things that would en able on the PC
63:57 things like online shopping being able virtual fitting room for clothing things
64:01 like way better than the previous one I mean things like um you know I mean even
64:05 VR Gaming from like a very basic
64:08 rudimentary standpoint the Omni uses it to track your feed Omni uses it I mean
64:13 we're not going to be able to use I mean and it's a good thing Omni is working on
64:16 their own or virtu ex working on their own solution for motion tracking they
64:20 need to move away from it now they can't use connects old connect anymore
64:23 apparently like it's that's ridic ridiculous to me and like and like the
64:28 stuff people have hacked U what do we even want to call it now correct connect
64:32 original um to be able to do is very
64:35 helpful for a lot of people yeah a lot of disabled people have been using
64:40 original connect to interface with their computer that's the thing that Microsoft
64:43 was demoing at computex is what connect can be used for in like medical
64:47 applications oh but they don't need HD I
64:51 gu it's like what are you thinking yeah like okay they are going
64:56 to release it that's it's just way in
64:59 the future really offensive so uh anyway
65:03 uh moving right along to our next topic
65:07 here uh Samsung releases their Flawless
65:11 curved 55 in TV so let's go ahead and
65:14 show you guys this so basically they're making the same kinds of claims as LG so
65:19 that is that a curved display will give a more natural viewing experience
65:24 because your eyes will be an equal dist from the screen uh regardless of which
65:28 part of the screen you're looking at um I personally don't find for something
65:32 like a 55 in size at the distance that I sit from it that it becomes much of a
65:36 factor but for something like a theater obviously it's a big deal or if I was
65:41 sitting much closer to the screen however I mean I think it's you know
65:44 it's it's cool it'll be interesting to see how that how that works out for them
65:48 and then the other thing about this monitor is they are claiming that it is
65:51 quote unquote Flawless so because of the
65:54 way that they've designed it the potential for defective OLED pixels is
65:59 quote unquote eliminated so we may be
66:03 moving towards and this is really cool we may be moving towards the future
66:06 where you don't buy a tier one display that has a dead pixel on it yeah I mean
66:11 that's awesome that's cool yeah that's really cool so uh so there you go it's
66:16 it's going to be priced at 15 million Korean wand so about 1300 us which is
66:22 not that outlandish when you consider what guys were asking for 4K TV not that
66:26 long ago what did Sony want for this 20 grand 40 Grand I think it was 40 I could
66:31 be wrong but it was huge it was huge it was like way out of my price range to be
66:37 a year early basically yeah it's like
66:41 yeah
66:44 no thank you I'll I'll wait a bit yeah I'm
66:51 good uh okay let's go you know what let's do
66:56 razor surround or no no let's do that at the end uh why don't you do the torrent
67:00 freak article okay so the torrent freak article yeah at& gets the patent to
67:05 Monitor and track file sharing traffic oh okay I thought you were talking about the other torent I can think of I can
67:10 think of companies that I'd rather have the patent on that technology than AT&T
67:14 and like they haven't talked about whether or not they've been using it already cuz they just have the patent
67:19 okay they haven't been like we are going to deploy it or we have already deployed
67:23 it or whatever they're just signing up for the patent this could be already
67:26 running it could be running in the future it like no one really
67:31 knows um but yeah whether the company is
67:35 already using the system to track infringing content or has plans to do so
67:39 is unknown and if they have been tracking infringing content they could
67:43 all have all that in logs so a lot of people could be getting in trouble so in
67:46 the patent AT&T notes that peer-to-peer traffic amounts for a large percent
67:50 percentage of traffic generated on the internet some of which results in a loss
67:54 for copyright holders for example some content may be legitimately purchased
67:58 and downloaded by users via P2P however some content may be pirated illegally
68:02 copied and distributed P PTP violating
68:05 copyright laws etc etc AT&T system will be able to detect what is downloaded on
68:10 PTP networks suggesting that this information can be used to track and
68:14 counter piracy based on the verification the
68:17 list may be modified etc etc etc the present disclosure may be used to etc
68:21 etc etc so guys if it is worth noting
68:25 it's worth or it's worth nothing rather that AT&T participates in the six
68:28 strikes copyright alert system where P2P users are also monitored the main
68:32 difference is that under that program the monitoring is carried out by the
68:35 thirdparty company which only tracks a list of titles supplied by the npaa and
68:39 the riaa now they track everything now they can just track everything and they
68:43 can do it dynamically so they can actually generate a list of what is
68:47 being pirated rather than relying on a
68:50 to monitor yeah so they can use this to infringe upon you however they would
68:55 like and they can use this to throttle the crap out of your connection if they
69:00 feel like it yeah which is do we have
69:03 build logs of the week I don't see them in the uh we do but the PowerPoint is
69:07 not ready the PowerPoint is not ready yeah cuz I was doing it as we were
69:11 leaving NC okay why why don't I talk about razor surround and then we'll wrap
69:15 up with build Vlogs of the week okay um yeah we had a pretty good day at NCI
69:19 today we got a lot of cool stuff done yep so guys check this out if you've
69:23 ever wondered about sort of whether you should buy a a two a stereo headset or a
69:29 surround headset the answer for me has always been if anyone can sort of fill
69:34 in the blank for me here let's see anyone on uh anyone on Twitch something
69:38 something something anyone on Twitch blah blah blah nope no no if anyone can
69:42 okay I always say guys you got two ears
69:46 that's how many speakers you need when the speakers are right next to them
69:49 however software surround is a thing so
69:52 if you check out the Virtual Barber Shop tour or whatever it's called on YouTube
69:57 and you're wearing headphones it's a very cool experience it really does feel
70:01 like you're you're in an environment and
70:04 that can be done in software I mean that one wasn't done in software if I recall
70:08 correctly it was done using a microphone array but that can be simulated in
70:12 software up until now we've relied on individual headphone manufacturers to
70:17 provide that software to us so for example Corsair with the Vengeance 2000
70:21 headset has Dolby headphone technology that was not in it and then added later
70:27 as a as a software upgrade so they haven't changed the headset in any way
70:31 what Razer has decided to do is
70:35 just sort of go okay well we're not going to we're not going to sort of
70:40 worry about any of that anymore we're just going to do surround software
70:43 surround for every headset so I haven't
70:46 tried it yet I just heard about it the other day and I'm pretty excited to try
70:51 it uh razor surround for Child's Play charity has apparently raised 50 ,000 to
70:56 date that's kind of cool that's awesome play is great speaking of Charity lineus
70:59 Tech tips for charity has been down for a couple months we haven't done a donation but we should probably do
71:03 something soon and then I think we're probably going to close out that program
71:06 because it doesn't seem to be making any kind of a difference so a few people are
71:10 pretty hardcore about it other than that no one seems to really yep so I mean
71:14 it's it's one of those things where you know yeah we uh we we we thought we were
71:19 going to kind of do something that was going to kind of make some kind of a difference but it was uh it was a bit of
71:24 a bit of a failure in terms of the effect that we were hoping that it would have and how excited people were going
71:29 to get about it so anyway razor surround gives Gamers the best virtual 7.1
71:33 Channel surround sound experience with any stereo headphones and I'm reading this off their site so I don't actually
71:38 know that it's the best I haven't tried it yet using state-of-the-art technology
71:41 the sound sound algorithms powering razor surround creates an unbelievably
71:44 accurate surround sound environment and allows Gamers to calibrate positional sound to match their own unique
71:48 preferences I've seen these in software surround Solutions before where you can
71:52 actually move around the speakers and decide exactly where you want the sound sound's coming from I think that a lot
71:56 of Hardcore Gamers will still prefer to
71:59 have um no processing delay on the sound whatsoever and have this just stereo
72:05 sound out of two speakers or even earbuds because that actually gives you
72:08 very strong positional audio as well but
72:12 for gamers that are looking for more like the experience like if you're
72:15 playing games like Skyrim as opposed to
72:19 Counterstrike something like this can improve immersion I mean when we're
72:23 talking surround sound plus Omni plus
72:28 Oculus for experience type games uh this
72:32 is this is just very very cool and I think it's really neat that they don't
72:35 lock it down to razor headphones so if you want to use beay Dynamics or
72:40 Sennheiser or even direct Razer competitors like guys like steel series
72:44 or Logitech razer's kind of going okay go for it we don't care you don't
72:50 have to buy any razor Hardware at all but we've got Razer comms now razor
72:55 I mean synapse I think relies on their Hardware but other than that they've got comms and Surround and comms is quite
73:01 excellent comms is actually the software we be using to test our call-in feature
73:05 in the Afterparty so guys stick around if you want to try um if you want to see
73:10 how it works because I don't think we're going to allow general public to call in just yet you done with that yet I have
73:15 to find it you have to find it I got it I got it usually I save it I know it's
73:19 weird but usually I save it to my download folder what's it called June 28th build doogs Friday June 28th it
73:24 should be in the live stream agendas folder live stream agendas folder that's
73:28 okay I got this i got this boom okay we are on this so it never really looks
73:32 that great when we open it this way but this is the fast we're going to open it
73:35 properly because it never looks that great when we open it this way wait you
73:40 said that right good work I won't have to fire you today I
73:45 haven't fired you in a long time
73:48 nope so this is a oh this is a
73:52 wallmounted Home Server can they see me
73:56 they can see you changing this is a wall mounted Home
74:00 Server which is freaking amazing all of these by the way so this is by user uh
74:06 comp LX this his computer name is vx-4
74:09 this is a wall 4 dyslexia for the win
74:13 yeah EA okay um that was awesome if you you
74:18 should go check out all of these ones actually this week especially you should
74:21 go check out the actual build because I tried to get photos that you could see
74:26 the whole thing in but there is way better photos to see specific parts of
74:30 the build and to see specific features and to get way closer that is cool so he
74:34 actually took the stickers off the drives just to make it look more clean
74:38 and space AED and futuristic sleeved cables which again you can't see that
74:42 great in this but there is zoomed in shots that look way way better cool it
74:45 looks like it's built into like a Wii Balance Board or something some uh I
74:49 think he custom made it fan control there all the cables uh bundled together
74:54 nicely at the bottom here here yeah and I I believe that the lights on the
74:57 outside can change like it's it's
75:00 awesome this build is very cool we had a ton of we have a whole bunch of builds
75:04 that are currently in progress that are on the way and these are a few of them
75:07 that just got completed which are great awesome um this is another one this is
75:12 another one where you have to see the other angles of the system because I
75:15 picked this one so that you could see that there is another side because with
75:19 a two-sided when you're supposed to look at it from two different sides you kind
75:23 of need to see different angles those sleeved cables on that video card yep
75:29 wow like this build is amazing okay someone's got a pmm and tell them to
75:33 remove those cheesy SLI covers I didn't even notice that that that's okay I mean
75:38 I'm not trying to be critical man but beautiful build you got to see the other
75:42 side as well there's a big Radiator on the back that tubing and oh that Accent
75:47 blue right there that blue water I love this this is fantastic is this metal
75:53 Construction I should have checked that I do not know
75:57 but it looks like it wow and there's no way it's wood what a cool build okay
76:02 guys so go check out ZD mods's build and then we see a lot of r4s but you'll know
76:07 exactly what happened with this immediately is look at the back so he
76:12 pulled out the entire back of the case to put a triple Alpha cool Radiator in
76:16 there doesn't need a graphics card apparently cuz this is a server build
76:22 there you go and what what I couldn't includeing this is the back panel of the
76:26 computer because you can see up at the top there that he has nicely sleeved
76:30 cables now if you see the back he has amazing runs going to his hard drives
76:35 they look you have to see the picture like I can't look at this 24 pin that's
76:39 beautiful the way that it curves away like that yep and he did uh lacing
76:44 lacing that looks amazing you got you got to check out the build you got to see the back and you got to see his uh
76:49 little lacing guide that he's got very very cool wow that's very awesome so
76:53 this this week was crazy we don't usually do three builds this week was
76:57 nuts okay so guys I think that pretty
77:00 much wraps it up um thank you for
77:03 watching the live stream and guys uh stay tuned for the Afterparty if you
77:07 want to watch us play video games and sort of uh yeah if that's basically all
77:12 you want to do right now we're we're going to play video games we're going to test the call-in feature oh we're going
77:15 to test the call-in feature so you're you'll basically just be seeing how it's going to work for next week which might
77:20 be a leg up they know how it works maybe they'll have a chance to to call in
77:24 maybe um I still yeah I yeah I still am
77:27 G to be interested to see how this works but uh yeah it might just totally not
77:32 work it did work in our test it did work in our test so thank you guys for being
77:36 awesome and all tuning in and if you do prefer we won't be upset if you go and
77:42 watch the tech which to my understanding releases around this time Logan's
77:45 awesome and we also won't be upset if you go watch the Star Citizen 24-hour
77:49 stream which is on right now they're they're doing a big website overhaul and
77:54 a 24-hour stream where they're giv some big updates which we've been missing
77:58 because we're here um but yeah so that that's another option as well I'm so
78:02 stoked on Star Sy yeah I'm did you see the The 300i Cinematic nope holy crap I
78:08 haven't actually watched or looked at anything you have to see this cinematic
78:12 anyone who's interested in Star Citizen recent update just came out
78:15 300i holy cow is that the ship I'm getting no oh I don't think so I think
78:20 it's the ship I'm getting constellation 300i I thought or maybe it is I'm pretty
78:24 sure that's my ship 300i I might be quoting the wrong name
78:27 as well oh but I think a few of the names are super
78:31 similar 300i cinematic I mean we could do this on the
78:35 Afterparty we should probably okay we should do this on bye thanks for
78:38 watching
