curse for more details Welcome to our
0:12
video review of the 7790 now it took us a little while to
0:16
get our hands on this card so we weren't able to get one until MSI got us a 7790
0:22
OC now bear in mind that whether it's Ed
0:25
or not Ed or 90210 or whatever else it
0:28
happens to be uh we overclock every card we get our hands on anyway and we keep
0:34
them all within sort of a reasonable overclocking expectation like you could
0:38
probably get something close to those settings if you follow the usual
0:41
procedure for overclocking and so yeah we don't really sort of worry too much
0:46
about any of that so let's start with
0:49
our overall test platform we've got a 3930k which is overclocked to 4 GHz
0:55
we've got a p9x 79 Deluxe motherboard 16 gigs of Kingston hypx memory a corser
1:01
h100 liquid cooler to handle that overclocked six core an ntech hcp 1000 W
1:06
power supply it's 80 plus Platinum a 128 gig Vertex 4 SSD and last but not least
1:12
the graphics cards which vary so the one that we have left on here right now I
1:16
believe is our 7870 Hawk yes that is indeed the card we
1:20
have so we are going to be using our usual methodologies for all the games
1:25
you see and we're going to put annotations uh next to them as each game
1:29
comes up to let you guys know how you can replicate our results so you can
1:33
take your own hardware and see if you can produce the same sort of um
1:38
Benchmark run which you should be able to and you can compare your own Hardware
1:41
to what you're using so without any further Ado we're going to launch into
1:45
our first game so BioShock Infinite um
1:49
is a very new very exciting title and it looks like the 7790 performed about 10
1:55
12% worse than the GTX 650 TI boost now
1:59
both of these cars launched at almost the same time the 650 TI boost came in
2:04
right after the 7790 had had a great launch and was very disruptive because
2:08
it wasn't much more expensive it had 2 gigs of RAM whereas the stock 7790 had 1
2:13
gig of RAM however you can get it in 2 gig
2:16
configurations and it yeah it wasn't that much more expensive so the 7790 is
2:20
kind of like an amped up 7770 or a uh 77
2:25
or a 7850 that's been been crippled a little bit and you can see it falls
2:29
right exactly in between those two cards and uh I mean a little bit under the 650
2:33
TI boost so everything performs pretty much exactly where it should we ran all
2:36
of our tests at 1080p as per our usual procedure especially for cards like this
2:41
that are intended to be run at 1080p so for Far Cry 3 we found that the 7790
2:47
performed pretty much right in line with the GTX 650 TI boost this makes sense I
2:52
mean this I consider a win for the 7790 because it's only a 1 gig card and
2:55
because it did manage to perform the same and you can see that we've taken
2:59
cards the next card's up and the next card's down from both the green and the
3:03
red team so you can see how those compare the 7770 still does quite well
3:07
only performing about 20% lower than the 7790 and the 650 really didn't put in
3:12
put up a very good fight at all in this one for Metro 2033 you see the 7770
3:18
looks really good the 7790 looks a little bit better than that and the 650
3:21
TI boost looks a little bit better than that which is pretty much exactly where
3:26
we'd expect them to fall however we can still kind of call this a win for the 77
3:29
90 because the 650 TI boost it doesn't perform better enough to justify its
3:34
additional cost with that said the 650 TI boost only really gets the benefit
3:38
from that extra memory which does cost more to manufacture when you actually
3:44
require it so when the textures of the game fill up 1 gig vram and can overflow
3:49
it to the point where it'll that card's performance in Witcher two we saw
3:53
what may be an example of that where the 7790 really didn't perform that much
3:57
better than a 7770 only about 10%
4:01
whereas the 650 TI boost pulled out significantly away from both of them by
4:04
about 15% but again hard to say how much of that is the actual power of the GPU
4:09
and how much is the additional vram the 650 really trailed in this one and the
4:13
7770 put up a pretty good fight finally
4:17
our last game is Crisis 3 but can it run crisis and the answer is yes it sits
4:22
pretty much exactly where it belongs within the product stack in this one and
4:25
there are no surprises there so what
4:29
what does all this mean well um
4:32
depending on your budget if you want to spend uh $150 plus or minus get a 7790
4:39
if you wanted to spend a little bit more than that maybe about 175 bucks you can
4:43
get a 650 TI boost both of them are an excellent value and if you wanted to
4:47
spend even less than that the 7770 continues to be our lightweight champion
4:52
at only around 120 bucks and giving you most of the performance of the next tier
4:57
up of cards and much better than what the green team has to put forward at
5:01
that price point which was the gtx650 at
5:04
$115 now we take all of our pricing as the second lowest price on nc.com to
5:09
give you guys some idea so if you kind of go oh well the retailer near me has
5:12
these prices I'll go okay yes they do that's fine but that's not our
5:16
methodology for taking pricing and comparing these cards so in conclusion
5:20
the 7790 offers up not much in terms of surprises it does support ifinity it
5:25
does uh have excellent power efficiency as well as quiet operation and you get
5:30
what you pay for thanks for checking out this video online as Tech tips and as
