0:00 it's ultrawide festival 2017 we've got three contestants each of which has been
0:06 challenged as part of their final quest
0:09 with building the dream setup that they
0:12 submitted in the first two rounds so
0:15 there were a couple of hey can i be part of the video yeah you could be part of
0:18 the video dawg sweet okay it's austin so
0:22 hey guys it's austin i'm just gonna do everything like this just like holding
0:27 yeah sure we'll tie our legs together the whole day will be three-legged race
0:31 okay get get on my intro so each of them had to do a 2 000
0:36 dream setup including the lg 34 uc 89 g gaming monitor so this
0:44 is our first contestant taylor he's got a mad shout out to his wife for putting
0:49 up with his bull crap over the last couple weekends working on these videos
0:52 got a mad shout out for your son who he was in the second video he was one of
0:56 the little noobs and he is working on what was it biochemistry yeah getting my
1:00 phd in uh cell biology and biophysics it's going good so you should be able to
1:03 handle building a computer you know that's not something they train us how
1:07 to do now zachary our second contestant
1:10 computer video making clearly you're pretty damn good at it but uh were you
1:15 guys like actually for serious blacksmithing yeah we're amateur
1:18 blacksmiths with a beard like that you're an amateur blacksmith
1:21 we have to look the part okay so give us give us a couple facts about yourself
1:25 well i'm studying astrophysics we're all physics here so
1:29 holy crap okay must have been a requirement and are you much of a gamer
1:33 yeah absolutely awesome well that's good news because the monitor that is part of
1:37 zachary's ultimate dream setup here runs at 144 hertz stock and overclocks to
1:44 166 hertz because this thing is g-sync meaning no stutter no tearing
1:49 no all right you can start unboxing your 2 000 rig and as soon as i
1:54 say go you can start building okay sorry i should have had you just open this i'm
1:58 sorry i should have opened it yeah yeah why was i blaming myself when
2:02 there were perfectly good other people to blame true i've got two arms i'm just
2:05 lazy you know what
2:09 yours is getting the rough unboxing treatment so here it is
2:13 here's your monitor and you can go ahead
2:17 and pull up all your stuff whoever builds the best system and we're going
2:21 to be looking at their component selections we're going to be looking at the way they put it together everything
2:26 from cable management to the way that they did their hair this morning whoever
2:30 builds the best system gets not only the 2 000 system to take away with them but
2:35 also eight thousand dollars in additional gear all right okay am i
2:39 ready yeah okay three two one start
2:43 oh my god
2:51 so what's your stick i see you uh
2:55 brought your own box cutter the weird part is how i got on the plane
2:59 definitely the weird thing is i broke federal a lot to get here
3:03 so tell me about what makes your rig optimized for
3:08 what you're doing with it well um
3:11 i tried to make sure that i had a fast enough
3:14 RAM that was good for the i7 which is 2400 makers okay
3:19 and i used my extra money to dump into an overclocked 1080 ti which is very
3:25 essential for 3d rendering
3:28 zach did you go by zach yes okay not zachary
3:32 nope things are going a little rough for you right now yeah do you need some help
3:36 can i help you do you want me to help you with the i o shield yeah lab too are you i don't know i have to ask
3:42 you went with a b series chipset on an unlocked processor
3:46 see there's a secret to it i don't think anybody knows that
3:50 it's because i'm stupid
3:54 tell me why you would use up part of your budget for usb extension
3:59 i need one
4:02 no but it's for it's for the secret weapon actually
4:05 it's not really a secret weapon everybody knows what it is interesting
4:09 i gotta say i've tried toby eye tracking
4:13 have you and from a gaming perspective
4:16 i was not too impressed i'll just leave
4:20 what
4:25 taylor wait huh actually hold on i'm
4:28 actually serious can i see this for a second yeah
4:31 i think there might be a bent pin in your socket oh
4:36 this thing is like mangled there's a bunch of bent pins here
4:40 and there's a bent pin here this is this thing brand new yeah i just
4:45 took it out of the case uh
4:48 okay so so here's the plan
4:52 uh it's like not new but uh it's z170
4:55 which shouldn't have any performance impact on your system
4:59 but like dude you got a bunk motherboard uh we don't want to take any points off
5:03 for that so the one thing you're missing is the critical feature that everybody needs in
5:08 2017. it doesn't have RGB
5:12 can i can i have a minute so you went small form factor why i did
5:18 go ahead keep working but this is being hosted by lg
5:21 and it's about the monitor so i wanted a case that would stand out and look like
5:25 the monitor so i went with something with curved side panels and this is the
5:29 thing to do it so wow that is a hell of a lot more thought
5:33 than i would have put into it i came here with the mindset of trying
5:36 to win the whole thing and so i did kind of build this around the competition
5:40 more than anything else i see
5:45 now last time i was here you didn't have your motherboard in the case
5:49 and i helped you install your io shield and you still don't have the motherboard
5:53 in the case you want to for the ioshio
5:57 it's all squishy you just need the appropriate tools so here i'm going to
6:01 show you a motherboard installation trick that i picked up back in nom
6:05 you can you can press on it pretty hard like i think you're being a little bit
6:09 gentle ginger yeah and so then all you want to do is just check um i couldn't
6:13 help noticing that you've got RGB RAM on a non-RGB motherboard yeah i really
6:18 should have thought about that right all right you really should have planned
6:21 the head a little bit better all right how you doing you seem a
6:25 little stressed i'm a little hot yeah
6:28 man i'm glad you got something with rsync
6:31 because this build is sunk
6:34 so so far your build is going kind of uneventfully
6:38 i'm sorry so uh you tried to convince us that this flame
6:43 band thing is is flare but that was a lie yeah it's hot in here
6:48 so tyler Linus hold on let me see if i can find
6:52 something to criticize
6:57 this one has two connectors on it you didn't need this one at all
7:02 ouch that was all i really had like you haven't done much so there's not a lot
7:06 to criticize i've been very flippant so far but we actually have to decide who's
7:10 walking away with the thing totally um i think zack's out the motherboard's a big
7:15 oversight it's a big oversight big oversight like i've been giving taylor
7:19 about you know his broken motherboard or whatever yeah zach actually like
7:23 scratched up the back of his board here's what i actually don't like about
7:27 taylor's build he designed it to win
7:31 instead of designing it to be a balanced build i don't think we can dock him for
7:34 that i think we can i think is that part of the competition
7:37 the idea is to build your dream setup i think john has the most balanced build
7:42 he does in the budget he managed to get an unlocked processor
7:46 an overclocking capable board and a 1080 ti so he's got as good a
7:50 graphics card as anyone else and if you talk to him about what he's planning to do with it it all makes it total sense
7:56 perfect sense i think john and taylor are pretty even for me right now i feel like they're
8:00 both fairly close there's a lot that can kind of go wrong or right with either of
8:04 them all right you've got a wow you've got a lot of pci
8:08 express connectors connected right now i'm not done yet no the cable management
8:13 scoring is done now though but it's it's not like a score out of a hundred it's
8:16 like uh kind of more of like a subjective score so this i'm just i'm
8:19 giving yours like a a business in the front party in the back kind of it's like a naked party in
8:25 the back though it's like everyone's writhing around kind of party i'm gonna
8:28 go judge some other people look at this this this guy is your build
8:32 is a logo disaster right side up logo
8:35 okay right side up logo right side up logo what the hell is this
8:40 they installed that at the factory oh oh so i've been having a lot of
8:44 factory problems today so your mo
8:47 see this is the first time a manufacturer first time's a fluke the
8:50 second time is a pattern sir i think that's the third time so
8:54 you know what we can i'm not an expert on math don't listen you're doing a
8:59 great job things he's just mean you're my favorite perfect youtube
9:04 okay zach how's progress not too bad
9:07 you got your water cooler in very nice that is mounted correctly you
9:11 got thermal paste in there you got your logo right side up he's got his logo
9:16 right side up tyler i think it's taylor
9:19 jackass is what it is wow your cable management is really
9:24 coming along that is looking really good now
9:28 it's too bad i had to grade it before it's fine
9:31 that's a shame dude you broke the usb 3 header i'm telling
9:35 you it's not me these manufacturers have it out for me you know what
9:39 i shouldn't have called you jackass before i actually feel kind of bad about
9:42 that because what i should have called you was captain excuses that was my nickname
9:47 in high school with any luck like it's just not going to turn on at all
9:52 all right you're powered up
9:56 you're the first one to be powered up but what you didn't know
10:00 is that part of the lightning round is for us to short out the first
10:05 movement no i'm just kidding only tyler taylor see he actually screwed me up
10:09 only taylor gets to have a broken motherboard today freaking awesome man
10:14 no keyboard detected though no keyboard detected press one 110 for one to enter
10:18 setup this this is what's wrong with the pc
10:21 industry wow you've made a lot of progress since
10:25 the last time i was here thank you cable management looks good in the front you
10:29 know i uh i was a little worried about about you getting done in a reasonable
10:32 amount of time here and then you kind of pulled it together man
10:36 it's looking good dude not a bad little system yeah and it's on
10:41 which is an improvement over taylor
10:45 i didn't even show you the the greatest piece of this whole build
10:49 oh do you have a secret weapon too i do it's called
10:52 a background that yes wow that is just about the most
10:58 like overly masculine
11:01 thing of all time this might take several minutes zach but
11:06 that's okay because you are actually the entire Windows installation process
11:11 ahead of taylor over there he was way out ahead did you really put this uh
11:16 20-sided die on your uh power button you are actually the last one to start your
11:20 Windows install you were way ahead of the game you need
11:24 to still do overclocking cable management RGB you got to download your
11:28 drivers all right that's okay you still got time
11:32 we can do this we actually i guess it is we at this
11:35 point at this point okay so hold on so what have i not done in your system i
11:39 you installed your power supply let's take a moment to reflect on
11:43 the fact that none of our contestants managed to kill the monitor
11:49 this video brought to you by lg ultrawide
11:54 all right so everyone's ready yes i'm ready running you're ready are you ready
11:57 important thing yes judgment time
12:01 i was just waiting for it judgment time were you waiting for it that time i was
12:05 not so for ghost recon we're running at the native resolution of these monitors
12:09 has 2560 by 1080 and we are using the ultra preset because we figure for two
12:13 grand you should be having a pretty ultra gaming experience now one of the
12:19 things that we're going to be looking for is not just being able to run the game but
12:23 being able to run it at a frame rate where you're going to be taking advantage of these high refresh rate
12:27 monitors so gentlemen hit it and let's have a look at those benchmark scores
12:32 oh oh here it comes 65 7 65 9 and fifty three point four
12:38 okay you guys basically tied you guys are gonna have to run it like medium
12:42 details to get all those juicy buttery frames i think that it did pretty well i
12:46 have a really nice graphics card a really good i7 processor one of the
12:51 advantages i have over them is that i have a Corsair or name brand
12:56 keyboard and mouse and i also brought along a headset and a
13:00 mouse pad i thought everyone was doing that i
13:03 could have saved that money and put it into a trident RGB RAM set so that way i could
13:08 have had a much nicer looking build overall i think i did really well i've
13:12 got a decent build i kind of went for more
13:17 value spread out throughout the build i wanted peripherals that will last a
13:21 while i wanted an immersive experience but to
13:25 use a monitor for an immersive experience i figured you would probably
13:29 need an extra peripheral that's so that's why i chose the
13:32 the tobii eye tracker yeah my whole thing was based on immersion
13:36 i feel like i did worse than i could have if i'd had the original motherboard
13:42 i planned for um i think i managed to pull it together all right i'm hoping
13:46 that Linus and austin give me
13:49 a little bit of extra credit knowing that i had to go through a few broken
13:53 components so
13:56 we'll just have to see
14:05 all right so third place is
14:09 zachary you uh you fought hard the scores were
14:13 super close actually it was actually and we basically agreed on almost everything
14:16 yeah the performance hurts you the good news is that you come out of this with a
14:20 wicked awesome gaming rig and hopefully you had fun today
14:24 and you get this dope ass trophy can i put this on a
14:28 resume you can put it on a resume yeah there you go number two well i think we
14:33 need number one i think number number two is pretty obvious when we do number one that makes sense so why don't you
14:37 give each of us one of them randomly oh look at this all right two out of ten
14:42 two out of ten for these guys before we announce the winner you guys
14:46 all did really well it was way close you guys had such similar sort of setups you
14:51 obviously ran into a lot of bottlenecks and sort of issues but you handled it
14:54 really well and most of them weren't your fault so you know that was really
14:57 well done but john you took it home oh
15:02 wonderful and uh taylor you fought hard and you were a lot of fun to hang out
15:06 with today you were okay too this is this is official i mean it's not it
15:11 doesn't even really look like a check you actually can't go catch this yeah yeah they're gonna laugh
15:15 is this 21x9 hold on hold on let's get a validation
15:20 here no it's not congratulations though i
15:23 think you did a great job um you put the system together really well you had no
15:27 real issues with time performance was the best i think you have you know RGB
15:32 and like the lighting and colors all completely on point the configuration
15:35 was pretty much what i would have built yeah so awesome
15:38 good work good work good work thank you guys so thanks
15:43 everyone for coming and participating even austin even though i don't like
15:47 that guy and uh especially thanks to lg for
15:50 sponsoring ultrawide festival 2017 and thanks to you guys of course for
15:54 watching
