0:00 easiest way to look like some kind of chump in 2017 have a thick ass laptop
0:05 trust me you will not be picking up any of the
0:09 miladies if you're packing anything over an inch and remember boys it's not just
0:14 the size of the laptop that counts but what you're able to do with it well
0:20 acer seems to think they've solved both of these problems by packing what they
0:25 say is the fastest gtx 1080 max-q GPU
0:31 into this sleek 18.9 millimeter frame
0:36 and speaking of frames today's video is brought to you by shade tree sunglasses
0:41 they're handmade from hardwood materials featuring polarized lenses and they come
0:46 with soft and hard carry cases use offer
0:49 code Linus to get five bucks off through the link below
1:01 so with its cool gray aluminum back panel and somehow less tacky than usual
1:07 must be the blue accent predator logo there is no denying that triton 700 is a
1:12 different breed of gaming laptop this is one fine looking machine opening it
1:18 up the thick bezels and the plastic around the webcam are not ideal but
1:24 these can be forgiven once you see that sexy glass window that subtly shows off
1:30 the cooling fan and the heat pipes below
1:34 and look it is not just about that bling
1:37 bling i mean you gotta respect design
1:41 that performs while also managing to
1:44 turn sexy engineering into a showpiece
1:47 and the fact that they also managed to integrate the multi-touch trackpad into
1:52 it is straight up cool even if it's not ideal for usability
1:56 more on that later moving down from the tempered glass we get to the oddly
2:01 placed keyboard embedded in a very sturdy aluminum chassis the keyboard is
2:06 fully programmable and boasts full RGB backlighting although in my opinion it
2:11 does look best when it's left blue to match the lights on the side and the
2:16 logo on the back we can take a look at the i o now Thunderbolt 3 with four PCIe
2:21 lanes lots of usb full size displayport and Ethernet very
2:27 nice okay now let's just uh
2:30 boot it up and
2:35 oh wow okay really that's not controlled by
2:39 system volume well make sure you disable that in the BIOS
2:44 or you're gonna be that guy
2:48 on the other hand maybe you want your friends
2:51 colleagues and uh neighbor down the street to know just
2:55 how powerful your notebook is because
2:58 with internals like these this thin and light monster should make short work of
3:03 all but the thickest of rivals with that
3:06 said specs are nothing without cooling
3:10 thankfully the triton 700 has some legitimately impressive cooling chops
3:14 and for the most part it succeeds at keeping both the CPU and GPU from
3:20 thermal throttling our GPU hit a shocking 71 degrees max at room
3:26 temperature and only a combined synthetic load managed to overload the
3:31 CPU's cooler and that is a pretty unrealistic workload and this is all
3:35 while staying calm and for a gaming machine relatively quiet like i got it
3:40 running right now mike's right there acer even overclocked the GPU a bit to
3:45 make bears the fastest max q laptop available consistently beating out the
3:50 ASUS zephyrus though admittedly this is a bit of a hollow
3:54 victory since overclocking what is essentially an underclocked chip is kind
3:59 of like sandbagging your fitness tracker for the rest of the week so that you can
4:02 do 200 of your daily goal on friday
4:06 a real desktop gtx 1080 or for that
4:09 matter even a thicker laptop with a non-max q1080 puts both of these
4:14 pretenders to the throne in their place pretty handily but your desktop wouldn't
4:19 have an integrated 120hz 1080p ips display with g-sync now would it the
4:24 display is a bright point for this product literally like it's bright and
4:28 with good viewing angles and satisfactory motion blur it's great to
4:33 look at while you game and if someone wants to look at you the webcam is
4:37 pretty solid too now the speakers didn't blow me away but they're not bad at all
4:43 especially considering how thin it is if you don't mind the lackluster base and
4:47 having a dolby atmos certification is great if you're a headphone user but
4:51 let's get back to the interface the trackpad looks really cool and you
4:57 could make the argument that gamers would be pretty likely to take advantage
5:01 of the recessed usb port to carry around a high performance wireless mouse but if
5:06 you care about size enough to pay a premium for this versus a less total
5:12 gaming notebook then you probably are planning to try to use it as a portable
5:17 device from time to time and while ergonomically this placement actually
5:22 didn't bother me nearly as much as i expected it's a lot better than the
5:26 weird shaped ones on the right of the keyboard in my opinion
5:29 you do need to be careful not to mash keys on your keyboard with your palm
5:34 and there are definitely some other issues the boundaries are poorly marked
5:38 with no tactile bump to indicate that you've crossed them the glossy gorilla
5:42 glass is a greasy fingerprint magnet the lack of physical buttons for two-handed
5:48 operation is a huge downer for me personally and those are real heat pipes
5:54 down there it gets hot reaching as high as 53 degrees under
5:59 load although this should only be an issue if you were to use the track pad
6:03 immediately after a gaming session on the subject of planning to use it as a
6:07 regular notebook the custom mechanical keyboard is
6:12 awesome with a nice short but satisfyingly clicky key travel that
6:17 makes it a great balance for both gaming and typing
6:21 alex wanted to rate it damn near perfect
6:24 and saying that if they threw in a wrist rest it could be a 10 out of 10 while i
6:28 did find it a touch on the stiff side
6:31 though with that said the power brick is
6:36 really big and battery life still gets
6:39 killed by basically every other laptop
6:43 remember guys gtx 1080 laptops don't use
6:46 onboard graphics and optimus technology to save power at idle for the tinkerers
6:51 out there popping the triton 700 open and unscrewing this heat shield reveals
6:56 the five heat pipes responsible for the impressive performance results we saw as
7:01 well as two m.2 slots and two ddr4 sodium slots now they're all already
7:06 populated on our config so you won't be upgrading much unless you
7:11 want to throw away what's already in there to beef up your RAM or storage
7:14 down the road but i still appreciate that they aren't soldered that's
7:17 something you can't take for granted with all thin lights leading us to a
7:22 conclusion time i guess you know what overall i really like the predator
7:26 triton 700 it's pretty easy to recommend great
7:30 performance okay battery life considering all the other factors
7:35 and there's only one thing that really goes against it the price
7:41 at three thousand dollars it's not a budget option and it's four hundred
7:46 dollars more than even the competing ASUS zephyrus
7:50 but with that said you're already paying a
7:54 huge premium over just buying an equivalent desktop plus a separate thin
7:59 and light for travel so between the two of them in my mind
8:03 the triton 700 is the way to go thanks to the better battery life and in my
8:07 opinion better trackpad placement the first content to appear on a new
8:11 platform rarely takes full advantage of the new paradigm for example the first
8:16 tv shows were basically radio shows with the camera turned on and today we're in
8:20 a similar place with vr but already innovative filmmakers are
8:25 pushing the art form forward and Intel is pushing both the technology and the
8:29 community forward by partnering with rising filmmaker eliza mcnitt to take
8:34 audiences behind the scenes of her upcoming vr film pale blue dot
8:40 you'll actually be able to control your own adventure as you peek behind the
8:44 curtain learning about how visual effects sound design and creative
8:48 direction converge into a brand new type of experience the first version of the
8:53 internet gave everyone a voice letting people around the world including
8:58 young lioness create whatever content they wanted and the next wave is for the
9:03 audience to consume content any way they want and that is what vr is about so
9:09 check out the latest episode of on the making of the pale blue dot and learn
