0:00 today we're going to be doing an unboxing of the Acer v233h
0:04 ajbd this is a 23in widescreen monitor
0:08 it has 1080p resolution and it is a 16x9
0:11 monitor so that means that it is perfect and even I would say ideal for watching
0:16 HD content on your computer because you can run it completely unscaled so at
0:20 full resolution and also if you have 16x9 content which would be the standard
0:25 then you will not be seeing any black bars along the top and bottom of the
0:29 picture so let's have a look at the accessories that are included with it
0:33 this is a pretty value oriented monitor but it still comes with a fair number of
0:37 accessories so you got both of your cables included VGA as well as DVI so
0:43 VGA and DVI cables then you've also got a power cable this monitor has an
0:48 internal uh inverter so that means that you do not have to have an external
0:51 power brick with it next we've actually there that was it we've just got the
0:55 monitor itself so I'm just going to turn this over and dump it out it is
0:58 compatible with Windows 7 according to the box which I'm flipping
1:02 over right now and there goes the base
1:06 that was fun okay so the Box goes down here the base goes
1:11 here it has a very simple base so it doesn't feature swivel or tilt or any of
1:16 those fancy features but what it does have is solidity going for it like I
1:22 said it's a fairly basic monitor but the reality of it is if you're looking for
1:26 sort of a high resolution reasonably big
1:29 screen it's a 23 in then this is probably pretty much what you're looking
1:33 for so let's just open this up here and
1:37 then we've got a little cover over top of the screen so I'm just going to sorry
1:42 let me just bear with me here while I remove this and then we'll put this
1:46 monitor together and I'm actually unboxing this so that I can do a bit of
1:50 a comparison between a conventional cathode backlit LCD and an LED backlit
1:56 LCD so here let me just throw this on here and the first thing that we're
2:00 going to look at in our comparison is going to be the width because that is
2:04 one of the coolest things about Led backlight technology so check this out
2:10 okay so yes it does have tilt actually I take that back it has tilt in fact they
2:15 both have tilt okay so there you go that
2:19 is how much thinner an LED backlit display is because instead of having
2:24 these big tube lights in the back here it's actually just got individual LEDs
2:29 cameraman wants to have like sort of a better look at it oh yeah I see I see
2:32 why you want to do that okay so anyway that's it for my comparison you'll have
2:36 to watch the full NCIX Tech tips episode but we're going to look at sort of power
2:40 consumption as well as the differences in contrast ratio color reproduction as
2:45 well as thickness obviously here is where all of our onscreen controls are
2:50 so you got menu auto adjust uh navigating the menus as well as your
2:54 power button and that pretty much covers the oh cameraman wants me to turn it
2:58 around yeah because that do totally doesn't cover it so here at the back we've got ventilation because those
3:03 lights do get quite hot that's yet another thing that you do not find on
3:06 the back of an LED backlit LCD we have four screws for our Visa Mount so if you
3:12 wanted to mount this to something like uh actually this would be a perfect
3:16 thing to mount on that cool ITX case that I unboxed a while back where it's
3:20 got a little ARM coming out of the top of the case and you just mount a monitor
3:23 on it so that'd be a perfect use for something like this here's your power in
3:27 as well as your DVI and VGA inputs it
3:31 does have a Kensington lock Port here so if you have H security concerns about
3:36 where this monitor is going to be placed then that would be a good way to secure
3:40 it thank you for checking out my unboxing today and don't forget to subscribe to Linus Tech tips as well as
