0:01 welcome welcome everyone to the 2015
0:05 Linus tech tips technology awards i'm your host
0:09 Linus tech tips actually my last name sebastian don't worry too much about
0:13 that so we're going to keep the show pretty simple today and we're going to be talking about some of the top and
0:18 some of the well less top products of 2015 that we have had our hands on so
0:23 stay tuned because it's going to be one heck of a ride
0:27 just like that one night
0:30 when i rode a camel
0:42 the logitech g303 features a lightweight design and advanced optical sensor with
0:46 delta zero technology and RGB lighting check out the link in the video
0:50 description to learn more our first award of the night is the
0:55 snake oil award for being the biggest
0:58 pile of snake oil
1:03 and it's the pono player from neil young
1:07 yes the pono player brought to us a 400
1:11 mp3 player that was going to redefine
1:15 the way we listened to music along with a music store full of high quality music
1:19 that turned out to make no difference whatsoever in a blind a b
1:25 trial thank you pono player for giving us a
1:29 product that has so much snake oil which is a liquid that we actually managed to
1:34 make a pile of the snake oil
1:37 our next award is the reinvention of the wheel award for reinventing a product
1:42 that no one really asked to be reinvented
1:46 and this one goes to valve for the steam
1:49 controller the steam controller
1:52 adds touch pads to the handheld controller experience which is not great
1:57 for some gaming genres but makes it
2:00 possible to play mouse and keyboard
2:03 interaction games like civilization or papers please on the couch
2:08 on the big screen in a way that wasn't possible before
2:13 our next award is the square wheel made of cheese award for
2:18 reinventing a product that no one asked to be reinventing
2:22 and it not ending up being particularly good
2:26 and it's valve again this time with
2:29 steam machines the pc slash console
2:34 things that cost as much as a pc minus a Windows
2:37 license but don't have all of the benefits of a pc like all that game
2:42 compatibility and actually don't even have a lot of the benefits of a console
2:46 like exclusive titles or netflix apps or really anything else
2:50 and might improve later but for now
2:54 are taking home this award in 2015.
2:57 our best smartphone of 2015 award goes
3:00 to wow i don't think anyone's going to see
3:03 this one coming the iphone 6s
3:07 now to be clear the iphone 6s did not
3:10 win a place in my pocket as my daily driver
3:14 but best is such a funny word and what apple
3:18 did this year was drove forward the industry in terms of smartphone
3:23 performance both in terms of the actual CPU and in
3:28 terms of the rest of the subsystem with faster storage and faster wi-fi by a
3:34 long shot than anyone else is delivering
3:37 and i personally think 3d touch is going to be a huge thing for smartphones in
3:42 2016 and beyond so we gotta give kudos
3:46 where kudos is due which leads us to the biggest
3:51 disappointment award and
3:56 while i can't necessarily claim to have been that disappointed by the products
4:00 because i really didn't have high hopes for it from the beginning this one goes
4:04 to the apple watch everything the apple watch wants to be is great a phone
4:11 extension that you can have on your wrist so you can actually carry
4:14 conversations with the speaker and microphone the gorgeous multi-color
4:19 screen the apps and all that stuff all let down by an soc and battery that only
4:25 allow it to be on for a few hours a day and make you rely on goofy gestures in
4:30 order to turn it on when you want to use it the shark in the toilet award for
4:36 being the biggest surprise of the year goes to the google on hub which we
4:41 actually expected to be a total turd i
4:45 mean who wants a router with only one
4:48 Ethernet port on it that's ridiculous right
4:52 but the wi-fi range and performance of
4:55 the tp-link variant of the google onhub absolutely blew us away in our review
5:01 and i think it's a great option for people who really don't need to rely on
5:05 a wired connection or who are willing to add a breakout switch to their wireless
5:10 router that is to say as long as they don't mind google being the gateway to
5:14 their internet connection the coolest manufacturer swag award was
5:20 no contest at all and it goes to lg
5:24 for the 3d printed figurine of me
5:27 and then a later one with socks and sandals for accuracy as well as the
5:32 gigantic box of socks that go with those sandals that we unboxed in front of a
5:38 crowd here at our meetup thanks lg for
5:42 really thinking outside the box in terms of swag items the re-badge award we've
5:49 actually got two winners for this one it
5:52 goes to jaybird and to AMD for rebadging the jaybird
5:59 bluebuds x as the x2 with a slightly different carrying case and package and
6:04 AMD for well rebadging most of their
6:07 video cards this year although the most notable one is probably the uh
6:13 390 series the 390 and the 390 x
6:18 the best monitor ever award for being the best monitor ever
6:24 was a pretty difficult one as it's one that we awarded multiple times this year
6:29 might just be the best i've ever seen my coveted editor's choice award the only
6:32 choice 4k is off my wishlist my new top choice top dog gaming monitor but of
6:38 course we're going to go with the most recent co-winners the acer predator x34
6:44 with its 34 inches of ultra wide 100
6:48 hertzness and the ASUS rog swift
6:52 pg279q which operates at a stunning 165
6:56 hertz refresh rate at 1440p
6:59 with both of them featuring NVIDIA g-sync technology
7:04 which leads us to our final award
7:08 the award for the best fans
7:11 and that one it should come as no surprise goes to me
7:16 for collaborating with Noctua to create the nf f12 and nfa14 LTT edition fans
7:23 now i'm just kidding it's you guys thank you so much for this absolutely awesome
7:27 year thank you for coming along with us for the ride as we explored all these
7:31 products did a bunch of crazy projects i mean can you believe that whole room
7:35 water cooling wrapped up this year scrap yard wars started this year uh we did
7:42 two gamers one CPU this year luke's epic fallout for build all that happened this
7:47 year at least i hope it happened this year this entire Linus media group thing
7:50 has sort of been a blur but thank you guys all for being part of it all 2.1
7:54 million or so of you and we hope that
7:57 2016 is going to be just as fun and
8:00 exciting and speaking of awards shows the award
8:05 for the the the desk
8:08 that goes the most up and down with electronic control allowing you to sit
8:12 or stand or adjust to any height you could possibly want goes to updesk these
8:19 guys kitted out our entire office here almost poor nick and Colton don't have
8:23 up desks but what are you gonna do they equipped our entire office with their
8:27 fantastic power up up desks allowing us
8:30 to set three different presets a low a high and then a somewhere in the middle
8:35 i guess if you're one of those people who kind of like crouches in an action
8:39 stance while you work at your keyboard
8:42 and mouse they're extremely high quality they're nice and quiet as they raise and
8:46 lower and they come in a wide variety of configurations
8:50 luke and john are actually equipped with their squared up desks these are corner
8:55 desks that have the same height adjust features they've got a bunch of different tabletops and if you guys want
9:00 to check it out and get yourself a standing slash sitting desk we've got a
9:04 link in the video description and while there's been a lot of study on the
9:08 benefits of standing versus sitting the thing we can all agree on is that moving
9:13 around is good although there seems to be some evidence that just standing all
9:17 day is not really that great even compared to just sitting all day what's
9:21 cool about the updesk is thanks to its design it can actually be equipped with
9:24 a treadmill underneath so if you want to really take your game to the next level
9:28 you get a treadmill going and you can actually work and walk at the same time
9:33 pretty great stuff so thanks for watching guys if you
9:36 enjoyed this video hit the like button if you didn't hit the dislike button but
